George H.W. Bush Says He Did Not Agree to Diplomatic Mission With Bill Clinton

Border

Nope, wouldn’t be prudent.

Former President George H.W. Bush is taking issue with statements made by Bill Clinton Monday that the duo would embark on a mission of diplomacy around the world if his wife is elected president.

Clinton reportedly made the statements in South Carolina, saying he and Bush would spread the message that “America is open for business and cooperation again,” implying that the former president would need to swoop in to repair diplomatic damage wrought by his son.

Click here to read the story about Clinton’s comments.

But George H.W. Bush’s Chief of Staff Jean Becker released a statement Tuesday saying he and Clinton have made no such plans - even though the two have grown close through charity work since their 1992 presidential election match up.

“Former President Bush wholeheartedly supports the president of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around -the-world mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of home for freedom and democracy,” Becker said. “President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for President, and looks forward to supporting their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

Clinton’s comments were just his latest candid assessment of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

In an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS Friday, Clinton played down expectations for his wife’s performance in the Iowa caucuses, saying it is a “miracle” she even has a chance in that state.

He also criticized rival Barack Obama as being too inexperienced to run for president and said voters would be taking a risk with him in the White House.

Looks like Bill Clinton is desperate to get back to the white house and his glory days. Apparently he thinks that he is the savior of everything that is wrong, in his opinion, with the USA.

Comment by Patrick James

It never ceases to amaze me how purely narcissistic Bill Clinton is. He doesn’t even try to hide it. Everything is about him, everything comes back to him, everything centers around him, and everything he says just “is.” He is a case study!

Comment by Susan O. Schaller

Just shows the continued arrogance of Clinton announcing that without asking Bush ‘41 . The problem her campaign has when they send Bill out is judiciously tempering his remarks! He is so arrogant he thinks he can say anything and get away with it…..including rewriting his history!

Comment by Delio Gonzalez

I think Bill Clinton should go on “an-around-the-world” mission NOW!
He hurts his wife’s candidacy every time he opens his mouth!

Comment by Marie Clough

President Clinton is not a real friend to anyone. He thinks of himself only, and expects everyone to bow down to him. I blame him for the mess we are in. Everything was going downhill when President Bush took office. Clinton handed the U.S. to the terrorists on a silver platter. He let Bin Laden go, and he made a mockery of the Presidency. This cannot be disputed.

Comment by Morgan Adams

Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, arguably the worst two occupants of the Whitehouse in history, just can’t seem to understand that they had their opportunity, failed, and need to just fade quietly away. Their legacy was established years ago, and their continued meddling in government just invites pity.

Comment by Erin

Somehow I think Hillary is WISHING she instead had Oprah for a spokesperson right about now…

Comment by PHIL AUS

Most of the world problems today were because of Bill Clinton’s years in the White House, having him close to the White House again is scary

Comment by Larry Edwards

So if Obama isn’t qualied to be President for lack of international experience, then how was Slick Willy himself qualified by being governor of a not so international state of hog and chicken farmers? Bill and Hillary are so right for one another, but not for the rest of us.

PLEASE VOTE FOR JOHN MACAIN. NO MORE CLINTON’S, PLEASE.

The Clintons will say ANYTHING to get elected, whether it is true or not….and it is generally not true.

Comment by Susan K Jarrett

If Hillary is elected we can count on another major Clinton embarrassment. How do you see her naming him (Bill) as ambassador to some foreign country or to the UN. I can only imagine what a fiasco that would be.

Comment by Ankur

Bill Clinton and his tricks, trying to please the voters with whichever way possible, thinking that voters are dumb. This should be headline, how many more false statements is this country going to digest from the clintons? It’s time for OBAMA. OBAMA 08!

Comment by Claudette Ostrander

Thank God GHWB has the guts to call a Clinton on a mis-spoken word! You go George!

Comment by Jennifer

Clinton is as delusional as ever, thinking that the world needs either him or his wife to fix anything, as they did more to damage the reputation of the United States than anyone in recent history. I do agree, however, that Obama lacks the necessary experience to be president. But so does Hillary, having never served in an executive role and managing to bungle everything she’s done. Both candidates are extremely weak.

Comment by Richard Saul

Looks like what is isn’t again. He can lie to a grand jury why not lie and make up things to the American people again.Bill will say anything anytime anywhere based on what is good for the Clintons. Maybe he should go to England and appologize for protesting against America in a foreign country. That really helps our image.Say it aint so Bill!

Comment by Joe

Obama!? He is nothing but SMOKE AND MIRRORS!!!!

Comment by Lorie Wilson

The nerve! To assume George H.W. Bush would go on an around the world trip with “Billy Boy” to fix the world at large. George W. Bush will someday be recognized as a great President who has made difficult, hard decisions to keep us safe and has tried to begin the process of bringing peace to the Mid-East. The only thing that Clinton will be remembered for, is all the bimbos he fooled around with and the disgrace that he brought to the Presidency. Let’s hope this next election, the people wise up and see the Clintons for what they really stand for - devious, liars, cheats and experts at cover up.

Comment by Josh Parley

Clinton lie? Never! Define the word “embark”.
I think what Bill means by “Open for Business again” is that the rooms in the White House will be up for rent again and you can buy a judge or two to get your favorite felon out of jail.
I think America has had enough of Bill’s “Bidness”.

::::::::::::::::::::

Get in now! Early bidding on White House furniture starts the week after Bill returns from his mission of Business America!

Comment by Jay Caron

Bill Clinton is a master politician. His untrue comments were not inflammatory and therefore won’t be perceived as negative in any way, yet they force W’s people to respond so as not to allow the perception that they are conceding the next election to Hillary. Someone, I believe Huckabee, has said that our presidents must be people who see the office as greater than they are. Can anyone see that kind of spirit in the likes of Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John F. Kerry, and now, Hillary? These people are so full of themselves it’s scary. Biggest egos in politics.

Comment by Judy Bradshaw

I think President Bush would be crazy to have any more to do with the Clinton’s. They are BOTH unacceptable to a Christian country like the United States of America. I would NOT vote for either of them - ever.

My opinion - America would be taking a risk with either of them (Clinton/Obama) in the White House.

I hope the American electorate is paying a lot of attention to the comments of both Clinton’s! It is a scary prospect to have her as President and Him as First …..?? We don’t need another 4 or 8 years of their self-indulging ambition to the detriment of the Country.

Comment by Paul Schramchik

Regardless of what you think of the current George Bush, that the Clintons would think that a father would happily travel around the world implying that his son was wrong just shows the callousness and disregard for others that drive the Clintons’ thinking. Do they have any shame or sense of decency? Many of us know people in our personal lives who think, obliviously, that the whole world revolves around them. These sorts of people often say things that the rest of us just shake our heads at. They don’t know what we are upset about. Such are Bill and Hillary Clinton. An unbelievable lack of self-awareness.

I am having some serious doubts over former President Clinton’s ability to ” help” his spouse, in her bid to become the next leader of the Free World. I can’t believe he says the things he has in the past few weeks, and not be called out on them…..pschologically, I wonder if he actually wants Hillary to be President…..I guess it is all about him…..( depending on what the definition of All is…….:)

This just typical Bill Clinton tactic of lies and say whatever he thinks the people in front of him want to hear. What a pathetic couple of power hungary politicians with absolutely no moral compass.

Bill just speaks as it appears in his head without any thought. He has taught Hillary this well. He trys to use the Presidents father as way of saying he “Bonds” with the Bushes. Plus Hill will never let Bill out of country. Funny how Bill is now telling Hill what she will do as President.

Eventhough I am a lifelong Republican, as all of those above apparently are as well, but I do think it would be a good move to go bi-partisan. We do need an uplift in the world after the tough time we’ve had in Iraq. Let the older politicians do their thing in a good way. Together, George HW and Bill would do well.

Comment by Stephen Downey

Hillary will do a better job on her own. While I fervantly pray she is NOT elected, at least you know exactly WHERE on the left side of the coin she stands. Bill never knew what he stood for until he read the daily opinion poll.

I think that it would be wonderful if both our former presidents continue to do good for our country. It would be good if they can leave polities out of it and concentrate on the good that the two of them have accomplished.

The Clintons have a history of falsehoods and deception and will do anything to regain the White House.I for one will not vote for the Clintons dual presidency. I could not think of any other colder calculating couple than this two.

Comment by Mike M.

I agree with former President Bush’s statements. OBama is too inexperienced to even be considering running for President. Heck, he should still be in his home state’s state legislature. Any foreign mission with former President Clinton is folly. Any form of support for Hillary vs. the Republican Party smacks of stupidity and an impied support of her, which everyone knows former President Bush could never support. This must be some scheme by the Clintons to back door a positive image of Hillary. Who, by the way isn’t none to experienced herself in international politics. Can we name off quickly (5) bills that she has sponsored and gotten passed in the Senate?
But her and Bill are super qualified to steal stuff from the American people as we experienced by their taking articles from the White House when they left office the last time. Which is most likely what they would continue to do if elected in 2008. Our rights, and tax dollars most importantly!!!!!

Comment by Ken Meyers

Bill Clinton was alot better than George Bush. Bush is a complete idiot. Clinton at least did a few good things for our country. Bush did absolutely nothing for us. I am voting Republican for the first time but staying away from any Bush butt kissers like Mccain

Comment by Tim Walters

Why is it that Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter do not adhere to the longstanding tradtition of former presidents not criticizing the incumbent? I think George H.W. Bush was very classy in his response to Bill Clinton’s latest lie. He got his point across without criticizing. The Clinton’s could learn a lot from the Bush family.

Comment by Joe C.

George Bush has tarnished the image and integrity for this country for a long time. You are all correct, the Clintons will not fix this mess but it will take the entire country to shed partisan blindness and see the truth. Our current president is a fool…..come on everyone……we are spiraling down fast and need major change.

I’m not surprised That Bill Clinton would force Mr. Bush ‘41 into the position of having to explicitly support his son, the current President. I have found that Mr. Clinton is a master manipulator and is a better actor than any to be found in Hollywood and a better player of the the political game than most iny one I can think of. However, I have also found him (and his wife, the candidate) to be those who take every side of every issue, depending on whose prexence they are in, and to have no real goal in what they do other than to get and hold political power, read self-aggandizement.

Bill’s foreign policy was something special. Gee, let’s see– he negotiated a nuclear deal w/ N.Korea that gave that nutcase Kim Jung IL the bomb, he sold hi-tech to China, including missile intercept technology; he coddled the left in Venezuela, paving the way for Chavez; held hands w/ Arafat; shrugged off the embassy bombings and destruction of USS Cole; and generally won the hearts and minds of friend and foe alike.

Comment by Average Joe

I have heard many people talk about how Clinton took us out of debt, but they never bother to say how.

It sure as hell was not by cutting pork barrel spending. During his tenure, non defense government spending nearly tripled.

To pay for all this, he cut the size of our armed forces drastically, reduced the funding for national defense research, and sold technology to other non-friendly world powers, such as China and North Korea. At the same time, he repealed most of the tax cuts that Reagan had installed, and our GDP growth rate dropped from a 4.8% annual when he came into power to just under a 3% annual when he left. Basically, he ruined our country. He stripped us of our ability to defend ourself, and snuck up on all the middle class workers and pick pocketed them while they were not looking.

And yet people say he was a good president, and then blamed Bush for the recession we were in when Clinton left office. Does no one remember all this anymore? Maybe if our armed forces had not been hogtied by the exiting aristocracy, we would have never had the terrorism problems we have now.

I won’t get into that now, but it is quite frustrating to see blind support for quite possibly the most devastating president, except for Carter, to ever run this country. And look who supports him. Need I say more?

Comment by MICHAEL C.

Whoever becomes President in ‘08, certainly there is solid potential for George H. W. and slick Willy to do some charitable work together and display to the world some sort of united front as regards humanitarian crises and issues. But slick Willy tried to set George 41 a trap, to indirectly support his wife’s candidacy and simultaneously denigrate his own son’s performance as President. George H. responded like the wise and patient man he is and he, like us all, will see how things play out before he makes any committments to a George 41/ slick Willy humanitarian partnership. Hey Willy — that was a kindergarten tactic, and it backfired on you.

I agree the Clintons are the most dis-honest of all the canditated put together. Hillary as president, hope not. Bill would be the one under the desk this time. Telling her what to say, she is a piece of work. You dont deserved anyones vote.

Comment by Denise

The Clintons will stop at nothing to get back into power, including slandering everyong around them. I see Hillary trying to get back to the White House and think about all the lying, police-state tactics, use of private investigators to gather dirt and wipe out her political opponents, abuse of power, Whitewater, Travelgate, and other scandals of the Clinton White House too numerous to mention. The thought of her at the helm is scary–very scary.

Before you cast your vote, please consider the following about the first Clinton co-presidency:

• The Clintons were more concerned about what they could get from the presidency instead of honoring their responsibilities to this country. At the end of their term they were multi-millionaires. Ever wonder how they got so wealthy?
• Think about how they sold our military secrets, how they exchanged pardons for Puerto Rican votes in New York, freeing some of the worst criminals just so Hillary could have what she thinks she is entitled to. Will our democracy survive another four years of them?
• Hillary loves to play the victim–of Bill, of the Republican vast right-wing conspiracy, of all the Bimbos who sleep with Bill, etc. Can a victim be an effective president?
• Hillary’s long-suffering marriage to Bill, enabling him to have numerous sexual trysts — not just a one-time dalliance with Monica — results in her sense of entitlement. Do we want a president who feels the job is rightfully hers just because she’s suffered through 35 years of marriage to Bill?
• Hillary claims to be tough enough to play with the boys when, in fact, she is unable to leave a cheating husband. How will she stand up to other men who walk all over her?
• Hillary attacks her opponents with lies and innuendo far more than she talks about how she would attempt to cure America’s ills. What is her plan…does she even have one?
• Hillary has no experience. Being married to a president does not make one qualified to be president. As a married woman, I cannot relate to a woman who stays in a sick marriage so she can capitalize on her husband’s success, then pretend she did it on her own. She gives no specifics about her experience. More dodging accountability.
• Fact: She’s held elected office for one Senate term and has introduced no major legislation during that time. Is this the kind of experience we want in the Oval Office?

Hillary is not what she pretends to be. She is spinning her image — the same tactics Bill used on an unsuspecting American people the first time around. We should be smarter than that now. Do we really want them in the White House again?

Cast your vote wisely in 2008.

Comment by William Conner

The American people have forgot that the good ol’ boy Bill was IMPEACHED. He is a liar, a cheater, and a womanizer. This marriage between Bill and Hillary was a political marriage and had nothing to do with love for one another. I am a democrat and I can tell you straight out, I would never vote for Hillary and I never voted for Bill. Hillary is the most ill equipped candidate the democrats have and that should be obvious if you know anything about politics.

If she takes lessons from Bill if elected, I would imagine the pages would be lining up.

Another thing if George Bush is what experience gives you, I will tke Barack Obama any day, at least he is brilliant and he listens. This country has a cowboy mentality and you love the image of Ronald Reagan swinging an ax all while he had alzheimer’s. And his wife consulting a psychic so he can make decisions at the right time.

America has been a blind hostage for decades to the liberal media. It as a true miracle there has been any Republicans or people of value elected through the last few decades with the twisted and biased information forced fed to us.

I agree with alot of what both sides of the fence have said here in regards to the Clinton’s ambitious effort to get back on Pennsylvania Ave., and that things don’t appear economically as good as they did in the 90’s. But let’s not forget a couple of very important things, the dot com. years and money that boosted the false 90’s financial statement, where is all that money now???? And, we haven’t had any attacks on our HOMELAND since 9-11-01. You have to admit to liking that part. I hate the war as much as any flaming lib, but terrorism is a real threat, and I will selfishly admit, I prefer the fighting to be in the Middle East to New York City. An NO, the the nice extremest terrorists won’t just leave us alone if we pull out of Iraq. They would blow us up today if they had even just a little chance. A lot of people have forgoten this.
