George H.W. Bush Says He Did Not Agree to Diplomatic Mission With Bill Clinton

Border

Nope, wouldn’t be prudent.

Former President George H.W. Bush is taking issue with statements made by Bill Clinton Monday that the duo would embark on a mission of diplomacy around the world if his wife is elected president.

Clinton reportedly made the statements in South Carolina, saying he and Bush would spread the message that “America is open for business and cooperation again,” implying that the former president would need to swoop in to repair diplomatic damage wrought by his son.

But George H.W. Bush’s Chief of Staff Jean Becker released a statement Tuesday saying he and Clinton have made no such plans - even though the two have grown close through charity work since their 1992 presidential election match up.

“Former President Bush wholeheartedly supports the president of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around -the-world mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of home for freedom and democracy,” Becker said. “President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for President, and looks forward to supporting their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

Clinton’s comments were just his latest candid assessment of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

In an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS Friday, Clinton played down expectations for his wife’s performance in the Iowa caucuses, saying it is a “miracle” she even has a chance in that state.

He also criticized rival Barack Obama as being too inexperienced to run for president and said voters would be taking a risk with him in the White House.

I would like to echo some of the thoughts of MLG from 5 Mar.
First, I would like to say I am a McCain supporter.
This article we have all posted under is an article about how apparently Mr. Clinton incorrectly stated that he was going on a trip with G.H.W. Bush, once his wife is elected President.
I have found this blog … is interesting the word I am looking for? The “insights” of some I find disheartening.
I am tired of hearing about how Obama is this or that. He is what he is. If he were a muslim, there is nothing, nothing at all wrong with that! If he were an extremist of any kind there would be something incompatible with being a President (or any elected offical) in this country (even a lack of faith of some sort would be incompatible), but religious beliefs is not criteria for employment so to speak. Experience? What experience did John F. Kennedy have when he was elected and he had to deal with the Cuban Missile Crisis and the beginnings of Vietnam. (As another poster reminded us). That is not to say morally I agreed with JFKs antics in office.
This leads me to the Clintons, why is she even in such a contested race with Obama? If morals is as a big a player, as some of these posts suggests, the fact that she can tolerate Bill’s lack of morals says something about her character that is not compatible with the office of President much less Senator. “About time we had a woman President”. Is it? I would vote for anyone desiring of my vote.
Bottom line … There are only two canadiates left from my perspective, McCain and Obama. They should be an interesting race. I do not care for Obama’s platform, but I think misplaced arguements about his qualifications; are just that … misplaced.
McCain in ‘08 and re-election in ‘12!

I think you are both immature and lack knowledge of the bigger picture. During slick willies presidency he cut military and intelliegence budgets which allowed Osama plan, stage and actually hit the US more than a few times, the latter being the devastating blow to our great country and over 3,ooo lives on 9/11. You don’t have to be an economics guru to understand that if you take critical needed funding away from the areas that are meant to protect us long term that you are going to have perceived strength in the economy. Lets not forget sandy burglar and all the presidential pardons of felons. Slick willie was clueless, rudderless and ineffective as a president and falls right in line with weak another weak president like jimmy carter. You write as though you are anything but a “first time voter”. You liberals believe that the answer to all our problems are enhanced social programs made possible through bigger government; shall we talk about FISA. We are in a war with extremists that don’t abide by the Geneva convention and yet you want to treat them as everyday lawbreakers. If you are a first time voter, wake and smell the roses. We are the sole superpower and all the wanna be’s want to take us down just so we have to kneel 3 or 4 times a day and bow towards Mecca; no thank you, I’ll take the USA. May God bless the USA our troops and our allies.

It’s unfortunate for our nation’s security and our economic interest that neither Bush has or will lead diplomatic peace talks. They would rather use shock and awe, and W. has allowed US soldiers to fight and die for the Israeli cause.

If W has it his way, we will next commit more US blood in Iran on Israel’s behalf. Never mind that the Intelligence Estimate, which includes intelligence from 16 USA agencies, stated that Iran poses no immediate threat of creating nuclear weapons. Enough is Enough!

it is my belief that no matter which of of the democrats if elected pres. will more than likley pull the handle and flush this country down the toilet, but if it has to be a democrat my only hope is that it will not be a clinton. this country can not stand to have any more clintons or bush’s at the reins we need a leader who will stand up and defend this country and protect its borders, put god back in our schools and kick satan out and tell all those people who don,t like the way this country is that they are welcome to leave at any time other wise they can shut up and sit down

Man, I read about half of these comments and I realize more and more that there are some complete idiots out there with access to a computer. 300 million people in the States and these three bozo’s are the pick of the litter? This country will be a third world country in 4 years if the democrats control the House, Senate and the Presidency and that is a fact. Those that do not think so apparently believe that they will directly benefit from the dems being in control of everything. You knuckleheads need to get a grip on reality before you go to the poles. Even though I hate McCain, he’s far better than the other two socialists…… Heaven help us if one of them gets elected.

Bill Clinton was good enough to be seen with the elder George Bush when they were raising money for disasters……all happy and smiley, buddies of the same cause. Now the elder seems to want to distance himself from Bill.

I guess you can drop friends like you drop your pants - use them, then disassociate yourself with them until you might need them again. Ah, so much for friendship.

If I had but one wish, it would be that Hillary Clinton become President, appoint the best lawyers and staff members ever assembled, and go after both of the Bush’s on everything they could, impeach the current Bush, and impeach Carl Rove, Rumsfeld, Gonzales and the whole tribe, then get down to business to clean up what’s left of America.

I could leave this old world a happy camper.
