Giuliani, Romney Tied in GOP Race, New Poll Shows
Rudy Giuliani has yielded his lead in the Republican presidential race, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll shows.
According to the poll, Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are now tied in the contest for the GOP nomination, each at 20 percent among Republicans nationally. The poll showed Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 17 percent and Sen. John McCain at 14 percent.
Poll results suggested that bad publicity surrounding Mr. Giuliani’s personal life may have been a significant factor in his fall from a high of 38 percent. Just 35 percent of Republican voters gave Mr. Giuliani a high rating on having “high personal standards that set the proper moral tone for the country.”
How much do you rely on polling data for an accurate picture of a race?”
A little (32%)
Some (26%)
A lot (7%)
Sixty-five percent rated McCain highly on that issue; 60 percent rated Romney highly on the question and 53 percent Huckabee.
Among Democratic candidates, the poll showed Sen. Hillary Clinton maintaining a solid lead, 45 percent, over her closest rival, Sen. Barack Obama, at 23 percent.

I believe Romney will become one of our best presidents ever. For those who have followed his career, you know he as the three things that matter most to leading: strong character, hard worker, and is smart as hell!
Go Romney!
Kevin
Go Mitt Romney….the man with convictions and who lives true to them. Strong economy, strong family, strong military those are the things that will keep America strong and Mr. Romney is examplary in his leadership capabilities to help see this happen.
Mitt Romney is the candidate for this family. When Mike Huck… said that he doesn’t know too much about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), I knew then that he’s a man I could not trust. The Baptist Church makes it a practice to teach their followers of how terrible the Mormon Church is and all the lies it can tell. At least my personal experience living in South Carolina. Mike I believe was a key note speaker in Salt Lake City at the Baptist convention a few years ago. They held the convention in SLC to attempt to save the Mormons in town. Another warning sign for Mike Huckabee is for an ordained minister to charge $10,000 to speak at a church. No man should be paid to preach or speak in a Mega-Church on a Sunday for gain, even though he gave the money to a charity. Being paid to preach God’s word is called priest-craft (to get gain) and is considered wrong in the sight of God. Mitt is the right person to beat the Democrats and is the only one really. McCain is a good man but he can’t beat the Clinton’s.
I believe Mitt ought to be the next President of the United States. I’d love to see him get his hands on the Federal Budget and then work with both parties to get spending under control. There is too much waste in Washington and it seems that the President needs the line item veto but will Congress have the courage to provide a President with that important tool. Mitt seems to be the only candidate that has been true to his wife and so virtue and morals plays an important part in a person’s character. He would be a great leader for the United States and get us back on track and maybe our children will have a better life but I’m not so sure for our Grandchildren. Congress needs to grow up and work together and pass some legislation that will help the younger generations than to investigate this and investigate that. Lawyers are loving the work and their pockets are getting rich due to hatred on capitol hill. Enough
I thnk it is funny that Republican voters are wrestling so to “make sure” they get the right guy.
The bottom line is Mitt Romney is the only candidate who stands a chance of winning against a Hillary Obama (pres/vp) ticket. Don’t waste your primary vote on someone who has no chance of winning.
Evangelicals:
what good will Huck do your faith when he is deciding what kind of street lights will best adorn Little Rock streets in 2009?
War heroes:
What good will McCain do for your legacy when he is making global warming documentaries in 2009?
People who watched 9/11 from a couch in Tulsa:
What good will Guiliani do for your rural security when he is teaching at NYU in 2009?
***IMPORTANT: A primary vote for Huckabee, Guiliani, or McCain is a November vote for Hillary and Obama. Period.
Republicans need to vote ROMNEY or suck it up until 2016.
Mitt Romney does not have the kind of baggage that many of our candidates have.
Do we want Billary back in the White House, or an inexperienced Obama, or “Ole sue em blind Edwards”…. Or Mr. Pay Pal Huckabee Read this web site to see what kind of baggage Huckabee has for the Democrats to attack (http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/11/13/huckabee/
We want a good financial mind - one that can and will bring the absolute irresponsible spending in Washington back to the true reason of having a national Government. We want a conservative in social and defense areas. When we look at the whole candidate we need a real proven leader who can defeat the Democrats in November 2008 that Candidate is Mitt Romney – he will gather the best leaders to be had for his cabinet and other important offices. It will be absolutely imperative that someone like Romney chooses the next few Supreme Court Justices.
Josiah C (Post 150), you never presented an alternative. Who are you plugging?
Some of what you said about Romney should be addressed. He is sometimes accused of being a “plastic” candidate, looking too perfect, etc. This is nonsense. He had courage enough to admit he was wrong on abortion and change his stance. Are you saying you think he would go back the other way again? Not a chance. The real “plastic” candidates are those who pretend they have never changed their minds on anything (and hence have never learned or grown or developed). Being able to learn and adjust and admit mistakes are important qualities, especially in a leader. He was never “pro-abortion” but leaned pro-choice for a while. Freeagency and free choice are important, and he was right to place them at a high priority. However, he was right to realize that in this issue, the balance should tip toward protection of the unborn life over the right of choice of the mother. His track record with balanced budgets, successful business leadership, arguably the best-run Olympics on US soil, and his solid family relationships all point to integrity and success; the kind we need in Washington.
Romney is the most solid choice. If Evangelicals will move beyond the knee-jerk religious prejudice and lemming-like blind ignorance about Romney’s religion that some of them exhibit, he could easily win the general election. Next Subj: What’s with these Ron Paul cheerleaders infesting this thread? It is hilarious. I suspect the same two or three people are posting all of these two- and three-liners about Ron Paul; they all sound like they were written by the same person! Who the heck is Ron Paul and why do you insist on bringing him up on this thread? You’re not helping your cause, more like coming across as a pesky nuisance ringing in the ears. Ron Paul is a nobody, and has absolutely no chance of being elected President in 2008. Do yourselves a favor and get more realistic. He is outside the mainstream system. You don’t have to go outside the system to find a good candidate. One of the major parties has given you Mitt Romney! A little homework and you too could be well-informed enough to climb on board the Mittwagon! The man lives what he believes, and has courage enough to admit it and change when he finds he is in the wrong. The plastic candidates are those who pretend they have never changed their minds on anything and hence are incapable of learning and progressing!
I support Mitt also. For those that question his international foreign policy credentials, remember he “fixed” the Olympics in Salt Lake and helped bring together a large part of the world in a very trying time. He planned and executed a wonderful event while keeping both the athletes and visitors safe and healthy. He expresses his beliefs well and has a vision for our country that is far beyond his competitors and especially the Democrats. For those that attack his business acheivements, remember, that is how America became the leader in the world. We need this kind of man to help lead us the next four to eight years.
