Tom Tancredo to Drop Out of Presidential Race

Border

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo plans to drop out of the race during an announcement Thursday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP sources close to the campaign have told FOX News.

Tancredo, who has aggressively pushed his anti-illegal immigration message throughout the GOP primary race, has not been able to break through in the polls against his better known competitors. He and California Rep. Duncan Hunter typically poll in the single digits behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul in national surveys.

Tancredo would not personally confirm whether he will pull out of the race.

“I will neither confirm nor deny that report,” Tancredo told FOX News. But he  added, “I wouldn’t have a press conference if I didn’t have anything to say.”

The five-term Colorado representative already announced in late October that he would not seek reelection to the House of Representatives in 2008. He said at the time that his core issue of illegal immigration has been elevated to national prominence and that he doesn’t need to remain in Congress to promote it.

Tancredo aired a startling ad a month ago tying illegal immigration to terrorism. The ad showed a man in a hooded sweatshirt and backpack walking into a crowded shopping mall, with the sound of an explosion ringing out after the screen goes dark. The ad then showed bloody pictures of victims of terrorist acts in Europe, while the narrator said: “The price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to kill.”

Tancredo focused on the issue at the Republican presidential debate a week ago in Iowa, saying immigration without assimilation is a “catastrophe.”

He also refused to participate in a Spanish-language debate on Univision in early December. He told FOX News he did not want to encourage immigrants in America to speak Spanish as their primary language.

FOX News’ Carl Cameron and Chad Pergram contributed to this report.

Good, I found him to be a soulless, hateful old man out of touch with modern America and the world we live in.

No big deal…Trancredo is a racist, plain and simple. Hey Trancredo, isn’t that Italian. Maybe we should check his background. I think if one member of his family didn’t come here with every t crossed and i dotted, then Trancredo needs to be sent back to Italy or wherever his family is from…racist pig.

The article stated:

We all know that Tom Tancredo’s primary language is Hatred.

Just because you stand up for closing the borders does not make you a racist. Having to continue to live with being overrun by illegal immigrants (regardless of nationality) I see first hand the destruction to our way of life caused by not securing our border. Congressman Trancredo had the courage to stand up and say things that at the time were unpopular, but have since become mainstream sentiment from a majority of the legal population. And there is a difference between making sure every i is dotted and t crossed and sneaking across a border illegally into a foreign country.

Comment by Matt

Promoting balkanization of our culture is hatred of America.

I find it funny how all these morons are saying “Tancredo is a racist” and “Tancredo is full of hate”. You are probably the same people that would like to elect such bland politicians as Hillary Clinton, who will allow more people to come here and harm us. It’s a shame that someone who gets it, like Tancredo, isn’t given airtime on the CNN and FOX News Channel’s of the world, so we get more of the same old same old in Washington as the sheeple of this country vote for who they see on their TV screens the most. *Sigh*

Wanting people to follow the laws is not hatred. Wanting immigrants to become Americans is not hatred. Understanding that our nation of immigrations has become what it is today because we have all assimilate is not hatred. Hatred is hating people–you are not hating somebody when you want them to speak their country’s new language or follow their potentially new country’s laws.

Fascism is not coming to this country draped in a flag and carrying a cross–it is coming to this country via charges of racism, nativism, xenophobia, and bigotry.

His past caught up to him. Dave Duke, Pete Wilson, and Tom Tancredo. Those hypocrists who try to close the immigrant door behind them tend to have dark, dark, pasts. The South will never rise. Women, blacks, and others abused will rise and Tancredo’s/Warren Jeff’s apartheid-type movements will have their judgement day. Glad to see all emailers agree!

I do not support Tom Tancredo, but you are fools for calling him a racist, or a person who hates anyone. You’re ignorant about his position and it saddens me that you might possibly be voters.

Comment by JH

There is nothing racist or hateful about Tom Tancredo. I wish more politicians would be tougher on the border, immigration and stand up for our sovereignty.

Im glad he refused to take part in the Spanish language debates too. We need unity, not division, and for that we need a common langauge.

The small minded and PC blinded just parrot “Racist!” but cant see that the way to unity of all people is slow and legal immigration and a common langauge.

That leaves Huckabee as the best candidate to stand against the atheist doctrine of evolution.

Ignorant math: Defend Laws + protect country = hatred and racism.

Interesting.

I’m sure all of these non-hateful and non-racist people have a family of illegals living in their house, eating their food, and getting paid-for medical care.

An Hmong immigrant (legal I believe, but the press will never tell you) in Minnesota shot at two cops because he could not understand their English commands. He has lived here ELEVEN YEARS and has not learned even rudimentary English. His 12 year old finally got him to stop shooting.

If this is not a clear indication to you that YOU MUST ASSIMILATE AND LEARN ENGLISH to live in this great country then you are one incapable of reason.

Tancredo gets it. Those of you who call him racist are not good enough to lick his boots.

Tancredo is right on target when he speaks of immigration! The rest of Washington needs to get with it and protect this county.

Now that the America hating liberals have had a say I’d like to say that it will indeed be a sad day if Mr Tancredo pulls out of the race. That narrows down the field of viable republican candidates to two. Those of you who are fine with the Mexican invasion, feel free to move to Mexico.

This man is a true American, and as good as they come! Unfortunately the media and simple-minded people can only argue that he is full of hate. If you believe having a secure border, ans a safer America is hatred…you are the one full of hate. Hatred for: American values, our way of life, national security, the founders of this great country, and most of all America!!

Comment by Steve Piccirillo

If the remarks thus far posted regarding Rep. Tancredo’s intention to drop out of the 08′ Presidential race are any indication the subject is hardly newsworthy. However, as with many things, this is not case.

Mr. Tancredo is neither a racist, nor irrelevant. He is yet another example of an individual with legitimate views on one our nation’s most pressing problems who has been marginalized by the press and ever-present race-baiters (both in politics and the public at large). It seems to me that the true legitimacy of a candidate should be predicated on whether he or she has substantive views on the most difficult issues of the day. These issues, in no particular order, seem to be Iraq, Immigration, and the Economy.

Mr. Tancredo had strong opinions all all of these topics. His viewpoints engendered anger, as can be seen in the responses to this announcement. Credit the man for standing by his principles and providing an alternative to the mush-mouthed, spin-approved, responses provided by other candidates on these issues.

In the end the loser here is not Mr. Tancredo nor his backers, but the process. A voice has been silenced because there continues to be a focus, both on the part of the media and others, on style as more important than substance. We have Mr. Clinton to thank for this modern emphasis on polling data and “telegenics”.

It is at least possible that ultimately issues and the various stances taken by the Presidential candidates on those issues will play an important role in who resides at the White House in 2009. My guess is without the participation of Rep. Tancredo, and others who stand on principle - not politics, during this election that outcome is very unlikely.

Comment by steadyrock

Gone but not forgotten. Tom Tancredo achieved his goal of bringing illegal immigration to the forefront of this presidential cycle, and shedding the light on the threat that it does pose to our nation’s security, prosperity, and (imo) longevity. He knew he wouldn’t win the nomination, but he did what he did to make a point - and he made it well. Nicely done, Tom. Now let’s see you continue to work hard for us in Congress.

Comment by Ron

Tancredo had it right on immigration. His problem was he is a one issue candidate. Hopefully we will heed his warnings of the threat illegal immigration is to this nation.

Comment by Andrew Axsom

Despite the fact that I am a staunch Ron Paul supporter, I am sad to see Tom Tancredo go. He was a man of principle. He understood that if we allow illegal aliens to flood our country we will rot out from the inside. I will say this: despite the fact that he is dropping out of the race, he greatly helped to advance the cause of strengthening our borders.

Comment by Hank

He is hateful for wanting “ILLEGALS” kept out of our country?
Did you guys fall on your collective heads?
Breaking into someone’s country (not just the U.S.) is a crime.

Look what Mexico does to all the people coming in on their southern border. Robbery, rape and murder. Feel lucky the citizenry hasn’t reached the boiling point yet when it becomes open season on these criminals.
Come in legally. We’ll welcome you then.
Your problem is that like your culture, you HATE law and order.
All Tancredo is trying to do is keep you people from turning this country into the sewer from which you came from.

Comment by X L

Unfortunate! Tancredo is the only one with a clear message about illegal immigration. Mexicans come here because their own government fails to maintain a viable economy. Mexico has plenty of natural resources but an abysmal educational system. Blocking illegal immigration has nothing to do with race and everything to do with our national security and the preservation of our Constitutionally defined “rule of law.”

Comment by Dennis Howley

Congressman Tancredo may not get elected President, but he absolutely needs to be placed in charge of Homeland Security in the next Republican Administration.

Comment by Gregor

Hey Samir! Check the polls buddy. Out of touch with modern America??? You must be living in a different America. You’re welcome to leave this one any time you like.

Comment by Victor

While i didn’t agree with everything Tancredo said, I do agree that immigration without assimilation is wrong. My parents emigrated to the United States and pushed themselves to adapt to American culture, tradition, etc. Since they weren’t from Europe it was evident they were immigrants but they did everything they could to assimilate and we, as a family, are much better off for it.

Comment by US Citizen

Since when do the laws make you a hate monger (Tancredo) when there are rules to follow and they are being ignored. Let the name callers explain why there are double standards as to where the illegal aliens originate. Can the name callers justify why the originating country (South of Texas) does not have the same compassion for medical care, schooling, shelter, etc, as the USA, for illegal aliens?

You liberals make me sick calling Tom a racist - he is a great American - YOU ARE RACIST and anti-white with such comments, reverse discrimination is very common in America.

You want a third world? Move to Mexico.

Comment by greg

If true, sorry to see Tom go.

I hope he runs for Senator or Governor.

In my mind, there is only one issue that needs Americans attention the most… illegal immigration and all the stuff associated with immigration, borders, employers, etc…

The rest of it is all secondary.

Comment by The Unknown American

When it comes to illegal immigration it is not considered racist to say it shouldn’t be allowed. Those of us who live along the border knows that it is not only Latin or South American citizens that enter this country through the unsecured border. We know there are all types of people. We also know that when they get here they are treated very poorly by the same ones who smuggled them. We see it on the news every night.

A secured border is all that we Americans along the border are asking for. We are also asking that they learn the language of the land. All of our ancestors, regardless of where they came from had to learn English. As for Representative Tancredo’s boycotting Univision, I understand his point of few but felt it was wrong.

As for Rep. Tancredo’s ad about the terrorists, what people don’t realize and what is not being reported is that some of the “illegal” immigrants are those who are wanting to cause harm to our country. Even those who are just trying to smuggle people into the country are attacking the Border Patrol (story on Foxnews.com). The borders need to be tightened up and to say those who support tighter borders is wrong.

[...] Fox News and NBC report that Tom Tancredo will drop out of the race tomorrow, and he will likely endorse a candidate. [...]

If someone wants to come to this country they must do it through legal immigration or else they are CRIMINALS! It is a SAD day in America when this man is labeled as racist, called a “nut” by Jeb Bush, and told never to darken the door of the white house by Karl Rove. When all he is doing is standing for what our founders stood for!

GOD BLESS TOM TANCREDO & HIS MESSAGE!!

Funny, here we have the Hate-America-First crowd calling Tom Tancredo a hateful, bigotted racist because he actually took his oath of office seriously (to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign AND domestic). They just don’t seem to understand the principle that we are a nation of laws. Failure to grasp that, and the notion that you can pick and choose which laws you want to follow, usually indicates a lack of a moral base. Instead of constantly being against something, try being FOR something. It’s called core values.

Here is the Oath of Office: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.

Comment by JerseyBoy

Not surprising when your only platform for trying to win the highest post of our great country is Xenophobia. Tancredo is not only against illegal immigration, but also against LEGAL immigration. It’s the old adage of: I (and my ancestors) are here, screw the rest of you! Seriously, unless we belong to a Tribe, we have no cause to be so caustic as he is — can we be vocal? Yes; but caustic like he was - NO.

Now only if he would just resign from politics and move on….

Comment by Anchorage Activist

It was inevitable. Tancredo got it right in regards to illegal immigration, but he was too “neo-con” in too many other areas. The entry of Ron Paul into the campaign provided a much better outlet for those of us who want a return to traditional American values instead of a continuation of neo-Marxist globalization, imperialism, and multiculturalism.

Those who consider Tom Tancredo “racist” are nothing more than Communist dupes, or what Vladimir Lenin referred to as “useful idiots”.

Comment by Jim

Illegal is the key word here. Tom Tancredo has never been against legal immigrants just the criminal kind.

Comment by Hidden Dragon

There is nothing racist about Tacredo. It is ashame that the people of this nation have not worked together to fight the scourge of illegal aliens that are illegally crossing our borders. They would be shot and killed if they were crossing the Southern border of Mexico. We need more men like Joe Horn in this country to get rid of the rif-raf. However, I blame our government for not enforcing the laws. If it wasn’t for that, the US would not be in this horrible situation.

Too bad. Tancredo is the only candidate who understand the damage that illegal immigration is doing to our country. I agree that he has done a fantastic job of bringing the illegal immigration to the forefront and making the other candidates take tougher stances on fixing this problem.

Everytime I think people couldn’t be as idiotic as they seem, another liberal calls securing the border and halting illegal immigration “hate”. As an immigrant (the legal kind) who had to wait my turn, file my forms, work my behind off to pay all the fees (often going hungry to scrimp and save), and finally after years of work come here and somehow mysteriously obey the laws of this great country, I see illegal migrants and their allies as truly hateful and destructive to this nation and people who are waiting to immigrate within the system and who obey our laws. It’s the true racists who can’t see behind the colors to the crime.

Comment by kerry

Tancredo was my #1 Choice…I now vote for Duncan Hunter!!!

Comment by Mark

Tancredo was possibly the best candidate on the illegal alien invasion. The problem with the congressman is that he’s a whacko war mongering neo-con nutjob on everything else.

As far as the charge of racism goes it’s probably La Raza type people that are slinging stones from their glass houses. Pot, go ahead and call that kettle black. The real issue is respect for borders and laws not racism.

Comment by Scott

According to the Rasmussen polling service, a poll earlier this year (released May 25th) sponsored by CBS and the New York Times, 69% of Americans believe that illegals should “be prosecuted and deported for being in the U.S. illegally.” Just 24% disagree and say they should not. The data also revealed that 72% of Americans say it’s Very Important for the U.S. to “improve border enforcement and reduce illegal immigration.” By a 2-to-1 margin (60% to 28%), Americans believe it is more important to gain control of the nation’s borders than to “legalize the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.” And a only 32% think that illegal immigrants contribute to the country.

Yet despite all this we’re supposed to think that Tancredo was some sort of fringe nutjob out of touch with the America people.

No, Tancredo understands the situation very well.

Comment by ejm604

A real honest and standup politician! He is not racist, if you want to enter the US you do what every older generation has done GO THROUGH IMMIGRATION AND GET LEGAL! Over half the crimes in some cities and towns are perpertrated by Illegals! Ever hear of Ellis Island, no that was the legal way, they would rather sneak across the border, get free benefits and send money back to Mexico. T Tancredo’s message was to protect Legal American Citizens.

Comment by Coco

What a remarkable person, in fact, the first politician in a very long time who would not back down on his true opposition to the illegal alien free for all in our country. This unpopular “topic” has been his kiss of death in political circles because it is not polite to be direct and forth coming with the truth. Too many of his political opponents (suck ups) are afraid to discuss the storming of illegals over our borders and their devastating effect they have on our economy. They have no backbone and only want to retain their position in politics even at the cost of saying anything to gain votes. California has been reduced to a cesspool from illegals taking advantage of every free social service (paid for by middle class taxpayers), crushing our education system and burdening our health care. I do not blame them, I blame the liberal democrats who make it possible off of other’s backs.

Adios Tom, El Gusto Es Mio!!!

Comment by Jesse Roberts

Tom Tancredo was right on his immigration policies and truely represents the majority of working Americans. Wages are a product of supply and demand and when you have too much supply, both the wages and benifits drop. This should be evident to even the most open border people that are having to work for a living. This country has been prosperous because our forefathers were insistant that people coming to this country assimilate into society as Americans and only Americans. I hope that one of the candidates will step foreward to pick up the gauntlet!

Comment by leglatina

As an American of Hispanic heritage I support Tancredo’s views on illegal immigration. My family immigrated here legally and we expect everyone else to do respect our laws, our country, our language, our rules, our norms no matter their country of origin. Tancredo, Hunter, Thompson, and Romney are the only candidates who get it right on immigration and are willing to stand up to the ethno-supremacist pro-open border, pro-illegal alien groups like LA RAZA, MALDEF, LULAC, and place the interests of law-abiding American citizens and legal immigrants first and foremost above those of the profiteers of illegal immigration, illegal aliens, the MExican government and all other criminal enterprises profitting from the destruction of our nation via open borders and indiscriminate illegal immigration. Si se puede..enforce the law. Si se puede….build the fence. Just say NO MAS to illegal immigration.

Comment by Rocco's Grandpa

Whatever else he is, “Johnny One Note” Tancredo was never a viable or qualified candidate for President.

He never demonstrated any knowledge or understanding of what the role of the president was nor did he ever show he really wanted the office for he lacked either the courage or the intellect to speak on the many issues that this nation has to deal with in the future. He was a pure and simple, arrogant, one issue demagogue who - among other things - was of the opinion that speaking any language other than English inside the borders of the United States should be a crime.

My grandparents got off the boat from the same country that his did, but he has nothing else in common with me - or them.

Vaya con Dios!

Comment by Michael Reichard

Regardless of what you think about Tancredo, he definitely helped to shape this campaign. He has left his mark on the immigration front and he has accomplished his mission.

The real question is, who will he endorse?

Comment by Ms. Randi Scott

Darn!! Tancredo is the only presidential candidate that really wants to make Americans safe. The others just want votes- ANY votes, even illegal votes.

I hate to not vote, but right now I don’t think there is another candidate that deserves to be President of the US.

Comment by GBS

United States of America will wake-up only when 50.01 percent of the population are illegal immigrants.

Comment by Glenn

Very troubling. He needs to stay in longer to bear any fruit. He is a good candidate.

Comment by Don Quixote

If Tancredo truly represented The Will of the People, as he as his followers proclaim, why couldn’t he ever get any traction as a candidate? It proves that his extremist views are only shared by a primally screaming minority, that has, through electronic mob rule, taken control of the immigration debate for the moment.

Hopefully, his resignation represents a few nails in the coffin of this neo-Know-Nothing movement. He and his mindless sycophants will go down in history as an ugly stain. If the GOP goes down in flames, Tancredo will be largely to blame for inciting them to engage in extremely divisive and caustic rhetoric. This has chased away most Hispanics, who are now the largest minority voting bloc.

The GOP is cutting its own throat and Tancredo gave them the knife.

Comment by Doris Hoyt

The issue of immigration covers many aspects of the problems this country faces.
I think he would have made an impact if the media had given him better coverage. I hate to see him drop out.

Comment by T_C_Mits

Sorry Tom Tancredo- I thought you would be a sure winner.

Comment by Walter

Tancredo is a psychotic and delusional fool. I don’t know how someone in this day and age support his stance not only on immigration but also foreign policy and other issues. He’s clearly lost his mind and he shouldn’t be a Congressman in the US Congress. He suggested in a debate earlier this year that Mecca should be bombed and even after the US State Department said it was highly dangerous and irresponsible he was proud of that fact! He demonizes immigrants and brings no logical discussion to a difficult issue. I hope he quickly becomes a forgotten note in American politics.

Comment by Gimme

I wouln’t agree Tancredo was a one issue candidate.

What is killing Tancredo’s campaign is the pro-immigration media.

It is common to see panoramic images of the republican candidates showing everyone but Tancredo.

During the debates Tancredo wasn’t given a chance present his vision of what he’d do if elected. They’d give him 30 seconds - then rudely interupt him - and then they’d give a 81 year old loser candidate John McCain 7 minutes.

I found it so frustrating I tuned out of the debates all together.

What I liked best about Mr. Tancredo - compared to other candidates - understands how government works better than the other candidates: at all levels.

While other candidates will promise that they’ll cut taxes - or that they’d veto certain bills - Mr. Tancredo puts things in perspective: that a president largely works with what Congress gives him.

Of all the candidates I found Tancredo the most likable. Guiliani “talks out of both sides of his mouth” - one minute saying he’s for national security - and the other scolding a candidate with a more solid record on security because of an illegal landscaper. Romney seems OK - but to me he appeared to lack experience. Paul is an idiot. Hunter seems OK.

Other things that hurt Tancredo:

1. Strong pro-military position and an electorate tired of spending trillions (their Social Security income) on the war
2. Lack of a compelling argument for Hispanics to support is anti-illegal immigation postion. It’s the 1st generation Mexicans who have the most to lose to new immigrants. And while race oriented organizations like La Raza are drumming up racial hatred against white Americans - Tancredo wasn’t out there explaning that unlimited immigration hurts those who are already here.

As to hoping Tancredo’s warnings will be heeded - forget it. The 700 billion spending bill just passed ripped out funding for the fence and provided $10 in legal assistance to illegal immigrants.

[...] has finally decided to give up his quest to restore America’s “culture” and will bow out of the GOP primary. That intro may be too harsh, but who can really argue with the description? Tancreco added nothing [...]

Tancredo is a good man. I was sorry to hear that his voice will no longer be heard in the Presidential debates.

Comment by Ken B

Tom Tancredo is a true patriot. He actually cares about this country, not his quest for power and fame. Most of you sheeple have been directed by the liberal, drive-by media to select from the candidates THEY picked for you. You can have Hillary, or Rudy (who looks better in a skirt than her) or Romney that got abortion approved as a $50.00 co-pay procedure under the Massachusetts Hillary health plan and homosexual marriage, or McCain that is mostly like Hillary except for that war thing. Hence, the Des Moines Register, picks Hillary and McCain.
The favorite issues for the Des Moines Register are illegal aliens and homosexual marriage.
Now, all the Republican candidates suddenly are for sealing the border. Wonder where they got that idea? Do I believe them? Only Duncan Hunter, maybe Fred Thompson. The records of Mitt (real name Willard, so that is a lie too), Rudy (mayor or sancturary city), McCain (Kennedy-McCain Immigration Bill) or Huckabee with his flip flops on crime, illegals are just something to behold. If you believe these people, I have some ocean-view lots for sale in Iowa reasonable.
God Bless Tom Tancredo and preserve the United States of America!

The real racists are the activists who are encouraging the illegal alien invasion. They are throwing all the slop at the walls they can to cover up their real aim. which is to take over this country and eliminate English. They don’t want the truth to come out, so they are doing everything they can to suppress it. History shows that countries that didn’t ernforce their own laws, and look after their citizens, declined and fell. Tom Tancredo is right on the mark with everything he has said about illegal immigration and its devastating effects. Unless Washington wakes up soon and acts strongly to stop this mess, our country, our culture, and our language will be lost.

Although Tom stops the Presidental Race, he still speaks correctly on the immigration issues unlike all other candidates, who are still sheltering unauthorized immigrants. Furthermore, unlike al other candidates, he precisely knows that unregistered immigrants are directly or indirectly related to terrorists. He also implies that undocumented immigrants and terrorists are looking for another calamity or immigration shortcomings. Especially, unauthorized immigrants had never learned the terror attack on 9/11. Overall, they (unregistered immigrants) compromise the national security.

Tancredo has it right . He is not a racist. He is a American whom knows that a NATION divided by language will fall. It’s just to bad not enough Americans think like real Americans. It’s time that we as Americans stand up for what is right and build the fence that as a Nation we need to keep our economy strong, and our liberty enduring forever. It’s time the socialist in our country woke up to what is really happening. OUR GOV. HAS GROWN TO BIG AND Needs to be pulled in a notch. Thank You Tom Robert From S.C.

‘Tis a sad day this nation is facing… We keep the blinders over our eyes (and listen to the liberal media) …we take God out of everything (don’t tell your children to love one another or to honor their parents)…we kill unborn children (small wonder we need immigrants in our workforce to replace the productive citizens we have murdered…).

Unfortunately, we need MORE men with the guts Tancredo has had that will tell us the unbridled truth!

SORRY to see him go!

Tancredo is a part of a dying breed. The great American Patriot. There are those that will believe the lies spread about this great man, do NOT believe them. He only wants to save America for future generations.

Good job Tom Tancredo. You made US Citizens aware of the illegal immigration mess!! Those of you who are hating Mr Tancredo, do so because he exposed your secret.

All you people calling Tom Tancredo a raist will probably back any one of the other candidates who finally got the message FROM TOM TANCREDO that illegal immigration is destroying this country!

What a shame he has not gotten the coverage he deserves! I hope he does not back out, but if he does hopefully he will now back Ron Paul…the next best candidate to save the soverignty of the United States of America!

Racists? Oh, you mean groups like La Raza, MALDEF, ACLU and the Chamber of Commerce???

I wish more were like Tom Tancredo. If we don’t elect a true conservative in this election cycle we as a country are certainly doomed. Don’t be fooled into supporting anyone just because they have (Republican) next to their name. Reuplicans have abandoned you the people; why not abandon them. Maybe 4 years of a liberal socialist in the White House is just what we need to wake everybody up.

Tancredo is not a racist. He has never been quoted saying a single racist thing. Tancredo’s biggest sins is that he’s homely and not well-known. But, he is a patriot, he loves his country, and he wants to protect and defend it. He “gets it”, which is more than I can for every single Democrat who is running for the nomination. Tancredo’s a great American, unlike the idiots on this forum whose every knee-jerk reaction is to label someone a racist simply because that person wants to enforce this country’s laws. This usage of the word racist, simply to try to invalidate someone and end a debate, is wrong. It’s time we stopped using this absurd word, just because you may be too stupid or ignorant to win an argument.

What a bummer! I had dreams of a Newt/Tancredo ticket, perhaps for the next cycle? Thank you so much, Mr. Tancredo, for fighting the shamnesty bill. My sister and I attended 2 protests here in Atlanta. We were outside Saxby Chambliss’ office, chanting “No se puede!”. We were joined by 300 other activists, and we WON!

You are a tough fighter, and you understand the threat we deal with every day. Open borders will be the death of the US. If our borders, language and culture is not respected and perpetuated, America will cease to exist. Best to you, and thanks again for your guts and determination.

Tancredo is absolutely correct with his views on illegal aliens and securing our borders. Unfortunately, he is a “one trick pony” (much like Duncan Hunter) and his early exit is entirely predictable. Also, he lacks the experience of most of the other candidates. His entrance into the race was merely to bring the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront, which was a success. Although he would have definitely had my vote, I now have a much clearer view of the “top tier” Republican candidate for whom I shall vote. Do you know who a “racist” is? It’s a Conservative winning yet another argument with a Liberal.

Tancredo is absolutely right on illegal immigration. Too bad he couldn’t pull through in the polls. I was routing for him until I saw he wasn’t gaining any popularity. Maybe we will see him on the ticket as a candidate for vice president.
