Tom Tancredo to Drop Out of Presidential Race

Border

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo plans to drop out of the race during an announcement Thursday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP sources close to the campaign have told FOX News.

Tancredo, who has aggressively pushed his anti-illegal immigration message throughout the GOP primary race, has not been able to break through in the polls against his better known competitors. He and California Rep. Duncan Hunter typically poll in the single digits behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul in national surveys.

Tancredo would not personally confirm whether he will pull out of the race.

“I will neither confirm nor deny that report,” Tancredo told FOX News. But he  added, “I wouldn’t have a press conference if I didn’t have anything to say.”

The five-term Colorado representative already announced in late October that he would not seek reelection to the House of Representatives in 2008. He said at the time that his core issue of illegal immigration has been elevated to national prominence and that he doesn’t need to remain in Congress to promote it.

Tancredo aired a startling ad a month ago tying illegal immigration to terrorism. The ad showed a man in a hooded sweatshirt and backpack walking into a crowded shopping mall, with the sound of an explosion ringing out after the screen goes dark. The ad then showed bloody pictures of victims of terrorist acts in Europe, while the narrator said: “The price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to kill.”

Tancredo focused on the issue at the Republican presidential debate a week ago in Iowa, saying immigration without assimilation is a “catastrophe.”

He also refused to participate in a Spanish-language debate on Univision in early December. He told FOX News he did not want to encourage immigrants in America to speak Spanish as their primary language.

FOX News’ Carl Cameron and Chad Pergram contributed to this report.

Ron Paul leads Thompson by 6 percent according to polls in New Hampshire!

Your refusal to allow Ron Paul to speak demonstrates you are not a News Agency – But a tabloid that seeks only to support biased agenda

This makes you a Tabloid - Not a news agency!

Tom Tancredo was just a barking dog. He spoke so much about illegal immigration and did not even bother to introduce his OVERDUE immigration into house which he announced with much fanfare on his website. He is just an escape artist just like he did with his draft.

Its easier talking tough on illegal immigration. Doing something really needs lots of thought and leadership. Tancredo even spit out lies on LEGAL immigrants to bolster his argument against so called “cult of multiculturalism”. I don’t know how he can call himself part of American culture when he is a complete liar.

We all know who he endorsed after dropping out and talking so much against immigration.

Tancredo’s endorsement of Romney speaks volumes.

Anyone concerned about illegal immigration, and recent polls suggest that is almost everyone, should vote for Mitt Romney.

In Response to Seamas de Faoite’s post #267:
Trust me, We as Americans are NOT “anti-immigrants” as you state. As the majority, we are anti-illegal immigration. There’s an enormous difference. Logically, it makes Absolutely NO Sense for us to be as you say, “anti-immigrants” considering the fact is the vast majority of our Ancestors are and were Immigrants.
Fact is the American People are fed up with the Lack of back bone that most of our Politicians have to enforce our Borders. America’s Safety should first be the Homeland. If we are unable to protect our own Borders (uh oh…sounds like more Logic is coming…) Then how in the world can we protect America from abroad…Militarily no other nation would dare have the gall to attack our Homeland…I have been registered NPA (No Party Affiliation) since 1996 the year I turned 18. As of Dec. ‘07 I registered Republican to support Dr. Ron Paul’s Messege…It’s Ultimately is a Messege of Hope to the American People. We are a Nation of Laws. Why should the illegals continue to be given Amnesty? The North American Union which is in fact on the table and set to go forward undermines not only the American People but Our Constitution.

People Please don’t take the Mainstream Media’s Coverages as Facts, They are filled with misinformation, biasedness, twists and turns, which all equal LIES! Do your own Homework, I plead with you. Research for yourself. Do NOT allow the mainstream media to tell YOU who to Vote For…

Use Logic, It is very Obvious that the mainstream media is attempting to hide Dr. Ron Paul’s Messege. It’s obvious that the mainstream media does not want Dr. Ron Paul to win the nomination. It’s obvious that the media is underestimating the Power of the People…The Messege has Spread and the American People have been given Hope for America back. It’s about time that America Looks after Americans first for a change. A Vote for Ron Paul is a Vote for America. Do your own research don’t be dependent on others to do your research for you this is all I ask. As for myself, I’m voting for Ron Paul If you want to call me “anti-immigrant” well that’s your perogative. I’m for put the American People First for a change.

Tom tancredo has so far been the only winner of the 2008 elections. His goal was to make illegal immigration a major topic for the election, he has done that. Tom Tancredo now supports Mitt Romney, because he believes Romney is the man to fix the illegal immigration problem. After a little research, I agree. Mitt romney is batting 1000 on campaign promises. He made 100 promises in mass running for governer and fufilled all 100 while gov there. This has shown me he is a man of his word. Mitt has said we need to build the fence and stop employeers from hiring illegals. I, like tom tancredo, will be supporting mitt romney. heres to hoping tom tancredo for vp.
