FOX News Exit Polls: Women and Seniors Like Clinton
New Hamphire independents are driving the elections in New Hampshire and they’re driving up the numbers for Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, according to exclusive FOX News exit polling.
Early exit polling of Republicans showed McCain with 35 percent compared to 30 percent for Mitt Romney and 13 percent for Mike Huckabee. Of those voting in the Democratic primary, 41 percent were going for Obama, while 34 percent were going for Hillary Clinton and John Edwards was at 18 percent.
Polling taken at New Hampshire’s busy polling precincts showed 61 percent of voters identified themselves as independents — more than 40 percent of the state’s electorate — were voting in the Democratic primary, while 39 percent were choosing to vote in the GOP contest.
On the Republican side, independents were going for McCain over Romney, 37 percent to 26 percent. Among registered Republicans, voters were so far going for McCain over Romney by a slimmer margin, 35 percent to 32 percent.
Change, as it was in the Iowa caucuses last week, remained the biggest issue for Democrats voting in the primary, and among those Democrats who said change is their major issue, Obama won 58 percent over Clinton with 22 percent.
Also like Iowa, Obama is big with younger voters, attracting those under 30 by a 22 percent margin over Clinton. Late deciders — those who decided their vote in the last three days — were split between Obama and Clinton.
But unlike Iowa, women were coming out strong for Clinton — 47 percent to 37 percent for Obama. Single women went for Clnton by a 14-point margin. Men, on the other hand, were coming out for Obama.
On the GOP side, most voters said they were looking for the candidate who shared their values as the primary issue driving their vote — similar results were found among Iowa voters. Of this group, Romney was winning, 41 percent, followed by Huckabee with 22 percent and Ron Paul with 15 percent. McCain follows up the pack with 14 percent.
For those who said illegal immigration was the most important issue for them, Romney was ahead, 51 percent to 18 percent, while those who said the war in Iraq was most important, McCain was their guy, 43 percent to 26 percent.
Voters also seemed to think McCain would fare better than Romney in the general election against Obama or Clinton, 39 percent to 31 percent.
As for gender, New Hampshire Democratic women were voting for Clinton over Obama, 40 percent to 36 percent.
Those Democratic voters making less than $50,000 a year were going for Clinton over Obama, 39 percent to 32 percent, while those making more than $50,000 were preferring Obama.
Other findings: Two-thirds of Republicans approve of the job President George Bush is doing, and of those voters, they prefer Romney.
Over a third of Democratic voters said the economy is “extremely important” to them, and they were voting for Clinton over Obama, 35 percent over 35 percent.
As opposed to Iowa, where more than 60 percent of voters called themselves evangelical Christians, and went for Huckabee in large margins, fewer than one in five New Hampshire Republicans consider themselves Evangelicals.
Romney was winning with seniors over 71 while McCain was doing better with the younger set. Younger voters under 30 were going for Obama over Clinton 55 percent to 23 percent.

Why did you not invite John Paul to your debate. That was unfair.
“Over a third of Democratic voters said the economy is “extremely important” to them, and they were voting for Clinton over Obama, 35 percent over 35 percent.”
I understand that there could have been a decimal in there that was taken out. But I’d say 35.9 and 35.1 is still a tie.
” Over a third of Democratic voters said the economy is “extremely important” to them, and they were voting for Clinton over Obama, 35 percent over 35 percent.”
What other statistics in this article was missed in proofreading?
How many Democrats are willing to talk to Fox News? Were they identified as Fox exit polls? I believe these results will skew towards the candidate with the most independent supporters, which is likely to be Obama. Liberal voters just don’t trust the Fair and Balanced mantra.
Looks like the Clinton machine has mowed over the Obamamania.
Sad for the country but good for her and her contributors.
Best wishes to all.
GOOD GRIEF! CHARLIE BROWN!
WELL ALL THING’S CONSIDERED, GLAD THIS WAS THE WAY IT IS. TODAY!
LOOK OUT TOMAROW THOUGH! THING’S CAN CHANGE IN THE “BLINK” OF AN EYE!
SO I GUESS, “DON’T BLINK!” THEN.
RUN FRED…………………………………………RUN!
Time to fire your exit poll staff
fox again laid an egg, stopping being so biiased again and again. please do the public favor by being more fair and neutral ( are you kidding me , you might ask ). thank you.
The independent – undecided voters in New Hampshire account for 45 percent,
are majority, and are being asked by the democratic party of 30 percent and the
republican party of 20 percent to vote for, either Democratic or Republican party.
A person would think that it would be the other way around i. e. the Independent
party should have been asking that the Republicans or Democrats vote for an
Independent candidate.
It would only than be a really - true change. A change to the future, a change for the
“WILL OF THE PEOPLE” to decide their destiny, their Liberty, their Freedom,
to live, work end express “THEIR WILL” on ALL MAJOR ISSUES. The candidates of both
party have been talking about change for decades, for change in a bigger and
deeper whole, hopes of empty promises – brain washing, that tomorrow will be
better for “tomorrow never comes”!
The two party and the media manage to keep out other candidates from participating
in the debate as they did in the last election. The media even went to the ex stand
of a personal insult, that one candidate is “more like-able than the other” as that had
anything to do of the ability to run the country!
Who am I? I am no one! I am you! I am America! I look and search for change!
The change to express ”MY WILL on ALL MAJOR ISSUES”, It will be a TRUE
change! My vote is not for “sale”, “grab”, and never will be! It is better to suffer, rather
than to relinquish my “HOPES” to express “MY WILL ON ALL MAJOR ISSUES!
There is nothing “Fair and Balanced” about Fox News.
Fox News is the propaganda arm of the GOP.
Liberals don’t understand “fair” or “balanced”. Just what is “balanced” anyway? From my understanding, “balanced” is when conservatives act/vote like liberals, stay in their “minority” place, don’t stand upon convictions(because that is not being “tolerant”) and receive the page 65 retractions while the main stories blare the liberal propaganda, oops, I mean agenda!
Thank you.
It’s amazing the Clintoniatas have the time to stuff ballot boxes in New Hanoshire AND whine on FoxNews.com at the same time
Re: JimSmith and Mike in STL.
Paragraph 6: “Also like Iowa, Obama is big with younger voters, attracting those under 30 by a 22 percent margin over Clinton.”
Paragraph 15: “Younger voters under 30 were going for Obama over Clinton 55 percent to 23 percent.” (a 32 percent margin. Not 22 as previously stated).
Go FOX!
As an 18 year old female I am proud to cast my vote for Senator Clinton. Having done my research on the candidates I found only questions and confusion after reading the audacity of hope and yet found only answers and confidence when listening to and watching Senator Clinton as she campaigns and reaches toward the goal set before her. Senator Clinton I am honored to vote for you
I Have read these commints and it is to bad that the young people want the government to run there lives. clinton is a big socialist and we will not have much freedom in our lives. iam for very little government I like fox news very much thanks for the good reporting sue
Just change your name from Foxnews to GOPNews, your organization makes me cringe when I read or listen to your ‘Fair and Balanced reports.
Nobody has won anything with 39 percent or 38 percent vote from one party, its only a start. But Obama should be glad to go South with a lot of White Men’s and Women behind him. It should be interesting to see if he can pick up more support of White Men and Women in the South. If he can appeal to 38 percent to 39 percent of the White Men and Women in the South, Blacks may not be afraid to exercise their vote for HOPE.
Keep Hope Alive
Umm wow. I sure hope Clinton doesn’t win it . . . doesn’t anybody remember what a mess the country was when her husband was in office?
Shannon I will pass on the punch of the 1990’s:
I know the mess we are in now (with all her experience and that of her husband we assume helped her make that costly vote) and the mess he created before he left. Things were so good that Mr. Clinton’s VP (Gore) couldn’t win Tennessee.
No thanks, I want give you my personal finances, but I was ruined near the end of that party!
The pre-election polls show Obama winning. The exit polls show Obama winning. The results say Clinton won. Who do you believe? All these hard working honest reporters or one company, Diebold, and their electronic results. Figures don’t lie, but liars figure.
The heading of this nes forum states that Women and Seniors like Clinton….. This woman doesn’t . She is totally against what I am for . She don’t even have the guts to stand up to her cheating husband . If that would have been me I would have the news cameras ,told them to roll’em then threw his clothes out the door. She has taught her daughter to be rude even to children. She is one of those radical lefty loud mouths that only a moma could somewhat love… She is not a true American that carries the pride our creator gave us to do all the right things . She is one that lies like a libral only know how to do ….. If she wanted to have a cup of coffee with her I would decline …. For This lady would be embarressed to be seen with her… No all women like her ,so count 1 up that don’t …ME
Fred Thompson YAY ,The Best One !
Exit polls (ordinarily extremely accurate appear to repeat the pre -election surveys that Obama was well ahead. The hand counted ballots continued to show this Obama lead but the Diebold machine counted ballots showed a victory for Clinton. I supported neither candidate but I believe that a thorough investigation is needed and most Americans would prefer that to a lot of media second guessing. We are in big trouble if there is tampering with our votes,
Where is the raw data for the exit polls??? It would be nice to see a little less analysis and a little more actual content. Who did the voters in each party say they voted for as they were leaving the polls? This information is extremely important, because significant discrepancies between these responses and the official tallies could indicate vote fraud. There are ongoing rumors that Barack Obama won New Hampshire on the Democratic side, and that Ron Paul did significantly better than reported on the Republican side.
