The government should NOT get involved in the affairs of EVERYTHING. How can you being a free nation justify the government getting involved in each states affairs? Mike is awesome. For the person that said the plane should be shot down because they fly a flag of THEIR CHOICE in a FREE nation… please leave the country now… Communism is for you..

As a 26 year old African American woman, I am truly offended at the individuals who want to not only represent a time in history when our country was divided. The Confederate flag stands for something very ugly. You cannot not compare a symbol, such as a cross, which at one point in time represented something ugly, but now represents salvation which is wonderful. What wonderful does the confederate flag represent…nothing. As an African American woman when I see that flag it is like a slap in the fax. I will never understand why anyone would think that this is a representation of good. Our president of the United States will NEVER hang a confederate flag out on the white house lawn. This will NEVER happen, because it is a nasty time in history. One of the blog commented on the fact that the northern part part of the U.S. were slave owners as well. That is correct General Grant did own slaves. But while as you say “they were taking steps to free the slaves”, many northern Americans had already freed their slaves. Even after WE WON the civil war, many, many slave owners terrorized their slaves and black balled them. So you see it was about rights. The Owners of slaves in the North provided opportunity’s to their slaves, to earn income, gain freedom (while still allowing them to maintain their lifestyle), teaching them to read, and acquire property. The south fought the U.S. ( as in me, not you) to keep black people, uneducated, impoverished and slaves to the incompetent white owners of the south. A lot of their ancestors still live on and a few even posted commits on this board. You people have no right. Do you see swastikas being flown all over and in the Jews faces. We deserve some respect. It is the blood and tears of my ancestor that built this country…and any one says otherwise is an Idiot. I am so sick of people defending everything that is ripping the country apart. Not only is everyone extremely ignorant as to how this flag is thought of through out the African American community, this would not even be an issue. People need to not only start using their heads, but their hearts to.

This morning I was walking my dog and discovered a loud helicopter hovering over my home flying low enough for me to see his unpatriotic rebel artwork displayed all over his chopper.
My thoughts are all aviation flying in our US skies should only represent proud to be an american-our patriotic flag. Any rebel in the sky should be shot down!

Who proclaimed that the Concederate Cause was ever conceived to be evil and full of hatred and bigotry. Even the old testament speaks of the isrealites, the chosen people of God, who, with Gods blessing, killed everyone including men, women and children who stood against them on their way to the promised land. Most of the great men of the bible owned slaves of some sort. Do we consider David, Moses, Abraham bigots and full of hatred. I am not condoning slavery and believe it was a blight to the country and needed to be stopped along with the slave trade. But the history that led up to the seccession was over states rights and taxes imposed against agriculture that was the way of life in the southern states. Before people start crying over a historical heritage they better wake up, quit using God as an excuse, and vote for Mike Huckabee who he is and what he believes and who he believes in. Our forefathers sure did and look were it them. Not so much today. If you vote democrat today, your wanting the government to tell you how to eat, sleep, and live. We are not so far away from another idealogy that we fought a COLD WAR over for decades. Anyway, think about this. Voting is the only right we have left in this country and if you listen to the polls and network news then you have lost that right because its no longer a choice.

I was not accusing Huckabee of being a liar. I was accusing some previous Presidents, namely Clinton, of being guilty of that. I was claiming Huckabee as the man of integrity. I have met him myself on numerous occasions while he was governor in Arkansas and have been impressed each time I walked away from an encounter. And there is no ‘dancing around’ scripture. Stop the judge lest ye be judged, this has to do with the honesty and integrity of the next leader of the free world. The other poster was speaking things that bordered on murmuring and that was the reason for my reference to scripture and the rebuke. I was shooting for accountability not judgment.

Mona, you said you were thinking about voting for Gov Huckabee until he supported the S.C. flag? Where did he say he supported the Confederate flag? He said the decision should be left up to the states to decide. He didn’t say he supported it. He’s a Christian and believes in the Bill of Rights. Those rights give us and the states the ability to make our own decisions. I’m tired of being told who to vote for because of the color of my skin. I’m going to whisper this so no one hears. It was the Republicans who voted to end slavery (Democrats voted against it). Republicans vote to keep taxes low. Republicans are against the killing of children (abortion). Republicans have appointed the Black Federal Judges, Generals, Sec State, Sec Defense, Sec Education, etc. Under the Dems, who ? Republicans want to get folks off of welfare where as Democrats want to increase the payments. Welfare is our peoples’ crack cocaine, girl. I now vote like my forefathers did, Republican.

South Carolina flag, and others like it, represents whats left of the “Rebel Cause”. They fought to keep Blacks enslaved and The United States of America from being “One Nation Under God”. Of course, Shuck-a-bee has to satisfy the junkyard dog mentality of those “good-ol boy” southern bigots who still run rampant in South Carolina and other “Suthen” states. Yes, with Huck and those like him, bigotry and prejudice are alive and well. It’s a good thing honest people have read through his sly attempt to conceal his sham. The state flag should be left up to the states to decide, period. As a black man, I’m offended by the fact that Jessie Jackson is also seen flying first class, rides in limos, and wears $5,000 suits when all of his income comes from donations from extremely poor folks. Why is the Confederate flag a symbol of hatred? This is the United States not the Federal Government of America. Do you have so little education that you don’t understand history? The Civil War was fought over states rights. R U referring back when the northern commander (Gen Grant) did own slaves and southern commander (Gen Robert E. Lee) did not own slaves. Note, Liberals look to the Federal Government to solve all their problems where Conservatives empower the people. The government is very good at spending tax dollars. Someone mentioned hatred and slavery as the reason to take the Confederate flag down. News flash, it was the British and American flags that brought over the slaves from the African slave traders. Sorry. Also, doesn’t the KKK march with an American flag also? Maybe the American flag should be banned as well since someone used it as a form of hatred. Southerners didn’t send 300,000 of its young boys to die for some rich guy’s slaves on his giant plantation. Not to mention 250,000 men from the north. Ignorance and a lack of education is no reason to take down a flag. If you want to live in a country where the government dictates your life then move to a communist country. Fortunately, we still have some rights left and so do the states. Communism is just a tad left of liberalism.

What does it matter about what flag is flown? The Mexican people fly their flags here. And I’ve been to many sporting events that fly Canadian flags. I could very well understand if it was a predjudice thing like a Nazi flag, but as it is my understanding, it is a heritage thing.
I also served on an aircraft carrier that had a snake rapped around a pole with the logo “Don’t tread on me,” but you don’t hear people crying over that flag, So let me tell you that if you vote for anyone else besides Mike Huckabee, You’re voting for a “Liberal flag.” McCain, Romney, Julianni, etc. are all Liberals hiding under the Republican ticket. DON’T BE FOOLED!!

Apparently it is ok to be prejudiced against Southerners who revere their war dead and who admire the aims of the Confederacy. We have come to accept this, just as we have come to accept the people who assume we are stupid because of what we believe in. We can’t change these people with words; our actions show our intelligence and lack of prejudice. Because most prejudiced people don’t bother to read history, we are happy to say that we proudly fly the Confederacy, the stars and bars, as a symbol of peace. The symbol of secession long before there was a Confederacy. In this manner we show our pride in our heritage without causing the knee-jerk prejudice brought on by the Battle Flag. Some people will not be satisfied until all traces of the Confederacy are completely gone. The United States has persecuted not just the blacks but every other race that has come to its borders, it isn’t done because of american heritage there is more blood on the US flag then could ever be on the Stars and Bars, we are not anti-american, we love our country, but we are tired of our ancestors and our Southern heritage being a sacrificial lamb for all the countries problems. To be technical in the Confederate Constitution steps were being taken to end slavery in the South. Learn some history before you stomp on the graves of honorable men, and maybe people that are prejudices won’t look so ignorant in the face of facts.

We recognize, though, that to some people, the flag of the South is regarded as a symbol of racial strife. While it is true that some have misused this banner for ignoble purposes, the same can be said of the U.S. Flag and the Christian Cross, yet no one will seriously argue that they are hate symbols simply because racial extremists use them from time to time. For example, Dahlia Lithwick of Slate, in a typical treatment that also attacks Dixie Outfitters, refers to the Confederate flag as “the proud symbol of the Ku Klux Klan.” In fact, the KKK- a nationalist, nativist outfit if there ever was one-used the US flag exclsively in its days of power. The 1965 book by David M. Chalmers, Hooded Americanism: The first Centry of the Ku Klux Klan, 1865 - 1965. (Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Co., 1965) was the definitive treatment at the time. It features many pictures of the Klan in operation. Not one shows a Confederate flag. Many feature the US flag. If fairness will allow us to acknowledge that those symbols have meanings their use by racial bigots, then the same courtesy must be extended to the premier symbol of the Southland, the Confederate flag.
Sadly, this almost never happens because the flag of the Dixie stands as a powerful symbol of opposition to the tyranny of the majority and centralized government. This “politically incorrect” symbol is something that modern day liberals cannot tolerate-thus the campaign of denigration. It has been the experience of the Confederate Soldiers of Ohio that those who strive to re-cast the Confederate flag as solely a “racial symbol” are inevitably motivated either by historical ignorrance or by pure, unadulterated malice towards the South, its symbol, its heritage and its people. We being the Confederate Soldiers of Ohio steadfastly reject the crass bigotry that drives this ceaseless campaign of cultural genocide against the revered Anglo- Celtic symbols of Dixie. We rightly resent and resist the politically correct fascism that demands that we acquiesce in the destruction of our culture. therefore, we will continue to display the Confederate flags and we will redouble our effords to educate the public as to the true history of the South and the authentic symbolism of our venerable flag.

Secondly most all of the slaves brought over on the ships were brought under an AMERICAN FLAG!!!!

Thirdly, the flag Georgia voted in to replace the cross, is the 1st National Confederate Flag, which was a Confederate Congressional Flag. Sooo They replaced a Confederate Flag with what???? A Confederate Flag, but because the left wing ultra liberals do not know history, they dont know any better.

Point is, it’s a hot topic and much easier to argue than real issues like drug use, violence, poor income. Everyone thinks if the flag is taken down then all the sins will be washed away. That’s the REAL ignorance.

My comment what Kia simply stated the truth about America’s distain for God and a God fearing man trying to run for President and her comments which really made no sense about the flag. You proved my point by quoting with Robert E. Lee from 1870. You see Christ reigned as a man on earth over 2000 years ago and aleady knows who the next president will be.

To many the flag is known to be proud of in the some areas, not making it a racial issue as liberal’s like yourself are trying to do to get it abolished! Then you can be like Georgia who abolished it and after you take it away you may want to redo it back to the original flag after blowing Millions of tax payers money for litigation because you believe it is all about race! Stop crying race card. I would almost guess you are a supporter of affirmative action also. In our state we abolished it becuae it is not fair to all and not one race should be deemed favored. That is a real issue instead of whining about a silly flag! The only regonized flag is the AMERICAN FLAG if you are a true patriot like your hero Robert E. Lee. I’m a Christian African-American Female who was seriously considering voting for Mike Huckabee. However, with these lastest comments made by him, I am wondering if I should reconsider voting for Mike Huckabee. He claims to be a Christian who loves God, but he promotes Hatred and Bigotry through the so-called Heritage flying Confederate flag. I would never approve of any group flying a flag that symbolizes Hatred in the name of Heritage. It seems as though, he’s pandering for votes to each community that he campaigns in. Well, I pray that Mr. Huckabee will repent to the Lord and stay true to God’s word, let his nay’s be nay and his yea’s be yea.

I’m dismayed by the entire political process. They tell us want we want to hear, only to change it as their audience changes. What a waste of precious time and energy!!!

Huckabee said the flag of South Carolina is a state issue because it is, and he refuses to let reporters trip him up with questions about issues that have nothing to do with his campaign and nothing to do with the presidency. Such questions are irrelevent to Mike’s campaign and what he is about, and he can anticipate these malicious questions before the left-leaning reporters can finish asking them. Huckabee is way ahead of them, and it burns them up.
