Nevada Spanish-Language Ad Irks Clinton Campaign
A union supporting Barack Obama is running a Spanish-language radio ad that slams Hillary Clinton over the Nevada lawsuit to bar the so-called “casino caucuses.”
A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the at-large caucuses to be held in nine hotels along the Las Vegas strip is permissible since internal party decisions are not under the court’s jurisdiction. Both the Nevada Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee last year signed off on the plan to give hotel employees the opportunity to go vote Saturday while they are at work.
A translation of the negative ad by labor group Unite Here says:
“Hillary Clinton does not respect our people. Hillary Clinton supporters went to court to prevent working people to vote this Saturday — that is an embarrassment.
“Hillary Clinton supporters want to prevent people from voting in their workplace on Saturday. This is unforgivable. Hillary Clinton is shameless. Hillary Clinton should not allow her friends to attack our people’s right to vote this Saturday. This is unforgivable; there’s no respect
“Sen. Obama is defending our right to vote. Sen. Obama wants our votes. He respects our votes, our community, and our people.”
The Clinton campaign is none too happy about the ad, particularly as the Clintons have repeatedly stated they had nothing to do with the lawsuit filed by the Nevada teachers union, whose leadership is tied to the Clinton camp.
Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer accused the Obama campaign of hypocrisy for attacking labor-backed ads in Iowa “but in Nevada, he’s looking the other way as they falsely attack his opponents.”
“Senator Obama apparently has no problem with groups running ads as long as they attack others. While that’s audacious, its certainly not hopeful,” Singer said.
On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Hispanic labor leader and Clinton supporter Dolores Huerta called the ad “pathetic, and it’s sad and unfortunate that they have to stoop so low.”
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded that it’s not the campaign’s ad, and “if the Clinton campaign has questions, they should contact the union that sponsored the ad.”
He goes on to say that “it takes some chutzpah” for the Clinton campaign to complain since it has been “repeatedly launching absolutely false attacks against Senator Obama. … The fact is their camp clearly would like to have workers’ voices silenced and they need to live with that unfortunate position.”
I am still wondering why Hillary Clinton refuses to file her income taxes until after the Primary Elections. That means she has something to hide. Obama is open about his. What is Hillary hiding? She has raked in millions in extra income for the book she wrote, but has charged the US government thousands a month on rental fees for the Secret Service to have a place to stay on the grounds of her estate in NY. That money could be used to help some poor children get the healthcare they need.
This individual is talking,talking, talking too much, I all of you that vote for him do not regre it, and this goes for the media as well becasuse it seems to me that most of them support obama, this person will do nothing but his own race, our economy is broken, our great nation has plenty problems in every field,We all americans should think twice before voting for him. Mrs Clinton is the right person to fix this country and get it ahead, and put everything in order, she got more knowledge, capacity and She is smarter.
i do feel that if people are here ,in America, they should speak the language. But why is it such a big deal to every one? Just mind your own buisness and leave others alone and you will be a lot happier in life. I love that Obama’s camp is countering all the dirty politics that the Clinton camp is desperately slinging at them. Obama campaign staffers have been responding beautifully to the nonsense that Hillary is famous for pulling. She is the queen of sneaky attacks followed by manipulation to make herself appear to be the “victim.” But Obama and his people are on to her, and they are exposing her disingenuous tactics every step of the way.

When I lived overseas in Indonesia it was never an issue for us to learn Indonesian. I wanted to learn it so that I could communicate with the people. Wouldn’t people here want that? Refusing or opting not just separates those people from the people here who do speak english and like Ted says, is just holding them back from fully integrating. And responding to Mexican American’s post, while English might not be the official language, and while we must cater to both languages on almost all signs, drivers license exams, customer service telephone voice menus, etc. English is the main language used in American life, and if I wanted to integrate and communicate, as Ted said, I would want to learn the “official” or “main” language of whatever country I’m in.
I am an American of Mexican decent and I am by the irked by the ever expanding ubiquitous dual language “everything” that Goverment and Corporations are imposing on our citizens. My forefathers came to this country and just like their Polish, German, Italian etc… immigrant contemporaries they had to learn English to survive and compete for jobs. They were better off for having learned English and no one “forced” them to abandon their culture. I am third generation and I speak Spanish (and German I was stationed in Munich) and I am very proud of my ethnicity as are most Americans, Irish or whatever, but am most proud of being an American. Celebrate diversity but the bonds that establish our National identity should be in one language, American English.
The new wave of Hispanic immigrants legal or otherwise perhaps encouraged by their sheer numbers have the gumption to demand that we cater to them and have everything from drivers license exams to customer service telephone voice menus in Spanish. Ultimately, this well intentioned coddling is only holding them down from fully integrating and becoming successful members of our society. This is an effect not unlike that from the failed welfare system on African Americans.
I am a Chef and I refuse to speak or be addressed in Spanish at work. If they want to work here they have to learn to communicate with everyone, period. They’ll be better off for it in the end.

I agree with the fact that people should speak english… but let me tell you something….English is not the official language in the U.S(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States#Language) ….actually…there’s no official language…so…as chinese people in chinatown (S.F.) speak mandarin….as russians , italians speak their language in their neighborhoods….hispanic people speaks spanish….and if we have spanish spoken TV, radio, newspaper, books, etc….it’s because we are the bigest minority in this country… (18%+/-)…and i’m talking about LEGALS AND “ILLEGALS” (actually nobody knows how many “illegal” imigrants there are in U.S.), and they say…that by 2050…hispanics we will be probably majority…..so…it’s time to take some spanish lessons “amigo”…..
The government cannot give something without first taking it. So when we hear about handouts (Healthcare, Prescription Medication, Tuition, Mortgage Bailout, Tax Credit, Foreign Aid, etc) to the ‘Gimme People’ in society keep in mind that the politician promising it may or may not deliver–but if they do, they’ll rob your neighbor through taxation or other coercive method in order to do it. What kind of self-respecting person would endorse such action you may ask? No self-respecting person would.
If you cannot read and write in English then why are you here? The Spanish people should follow the path of the immigrants of European descent and learn our language and culture. If they are not here legally they should be shipped back to where they came from. There is no need to even have spanish radio stations in the United States. Im tired of politicians pandering to people who cant speak the language. If you cant speak English then they should not be able to vote period!!
