Nevada Spanish-Language Ad Irks Clinton Campaign
A union supporting Barack Obama is running a Spanish-language radio ad that slams Hillary Clinton over the Nevada lawsuit to bar the so-called “casino caucuses.”
A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the at-large caucuses to be held in nine hotels along the Las Vegas strip is permissible since internal party decisions are not under the court’s jurisdiction. Both the Nevada Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee last year signed off on the plan to give hotel employees the opportunity to go vote Saturday while they are at work.
A translation of the negative ad by labor group Unite Here says:
“Hillary Clinton does not respect our people. Hillary Clinton supporters went to court to prevent working people to vote this Saturday — that is an embarrassment.
“Hillary Clinton supporters want to prevent people from voting in their workplace on Saturday. This is unforgivable. Hillary Clinton is shameless. Hillary Clinton should not allow her friends to attack our people’s right to vote this Saturday. This is unforgivable; there’s no respect
“Sen. Obama is defending our right to vote. Sen. Obama wants our votes. He respects our votes, our community, and our people.”
The Clinton campaign is none too happy about the ad, particularly as the Clintons have repeatedly stated they had nothing to do with the lawsuit filed by the Nevada teachers union, whose leadership is tied to the Clinton camp.
Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer accused the Obama campaign of hypocrisy for attacking labor-backed ads in Iowa “but in Nevada, he’s looking the other way as they falsely attack his opponents.”
“Senator Obama apparently has no problem with groups running ads as long as they attack others. While that’s audacious, its certainly not hopeful,” Singer said.
On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Hispanic labor leader and Clinton supporter Dolores Huerta called the ad “pathetic, and it’s sad and unfortunate that they have to stoop so low.”
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded that it’s not the campaign’s ad, and “if the Clinton campaign has questions, they should contact the union that sponsored the ad.”
He goes on to say that “it takes some chutzpah” for the Clinton campaign to complain since it has been “repeatedly launching absolutely false attacks against Senator Obama. … The fact is their camp clearly would like to have workers’ voices silenced and they need to live with that unfortunate position.”

I agree there is no official language in the USA or should it be the native language we should be learning in grade school…too bad the all immigrants that came to the good USA don’t get these. I’m a proud USA citizen and very lucky that I still have the right to express myself in many ways. Oh yes I’m a hispanic who refuses to be called this- Malaki is a Mayan word meaning good sun what they greed themself at the begining of the day and ending of the day…..I can speak their language because my greats on my mother side were Mayans and the language tought all the way down….on the other side of me I’m a mexican american rise and born in the good old USA…….I think that HRC (an immigrant)is the right president in 08 and if not her then let it be just another immigrant and not a native american……..
This is ridiculous just another attack from Obama that was not put by the media negative campaigning and portraying Hillary as the one who is corrupt. Way to go media.
When are Hispanics going to learn that who has actually tried to help them was neither Hillary or Obama? They want to help get an immigration bill passed, go to the man that actually tried to put one together: JOHN MCCAIN…. Obviously they are just blindly going for a democratic without truly looking at the candidate!
I don’t understand it. Everyone is saying that those who come to the USA must speak English like everyone else. What happened when the “white man” arrived in America? did we all learn the Native American Language? Oh, no! we forced them speak ours and then forced them off their lands! Didn’t we steal the majority of the USA from Mexico? Just think about it.
Ok I understand that to live in the US, you have to learn English in order to fit in society, I did. But, it’s people like “snapper” that piss me off. People like that ignorant nimrod should not speak when there are other Non-Mexican Hispanics that are fitting into the American society, but the snappers just keep belittling us. I don’t make fun of your whatever race you are so buzz off!
i agree that to be a part of the USA, learn the language.period
Why are campaign commercials being run in Spanish???? This is the United States and the official language is English! I’m sick and tired of things being advertised in Spanish. If you live in the US, you should learn English. Sorry, but that’s life.
Latinos need to wake up……whether you realize it or not you are still a “brown” minority and at the end of the day will be treated as such. Don’t fool your selves… America is still trying to send you back to Mexico… We need to concentrated on working together as human beings first..Americans.second…
The year 2009 could be the year that the donkey is back.
BO camp is so pathetic; not surprised—-let’s hear BO toot some solutions.
