Nevada Spanish-Language Ad Irks Clinton Campaign
A union supporting Barack Obama is running a Spanish-language radio ad that slams Hillary Clinton over the Nevada lawsuit to bar the so-called “casino caucuses.”
A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the at-large caucuses to be held in nine hotels along the Las Vegas strip is permissible since internal party decisions are not under the court’s jurisdiction. Both the Nevada Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee last year signed off on the plan to give hotel employees the opportunity to go vote Saturday while they are at work.
A translation of the negative ad by labor group Unite Here says:
“Hillary Clinton does not respect our people. Hillary Clinton supporters went to court to prevent working people to vote this Saturday — that is an embarrassment.
“Hillary Clinton supporters want to prevent people from voting in their workplace on Saturday. This is unforgivable. Hillary Clinton is shameless. Hillary Clinton should not allow her friends to attack our people’s right to vote this Saturday. This is unforgivable; there’s no respect
“Sen. Obama is defending our right to vote. Sen. Obama wants our votes. He respects our votes, our community, and our people.”
The Clinton campaign is none too happy about the ad, particularly as the Clintons have repeatedly stated they had nothing to do with the lawsuit filed by the Nevada teachers union, whose leadership is tied to the Clinton camp.
Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer accused the Obama campaign of hypocrisy for attacking labor-backed ads in Iowa “but in Nevada, he’s looking the other way as they falsely attack his opponents.”
“Senator Obama apparently has no problem with groups running ads as long as they attack others. While that’s audacious, its certainly not hopeful,” Singer said.
On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Hispanic labor leader and Clinton supporter Dolores Huerta called the ad “pathetic, and it’s sad and unfortunate that they have to stoop so low.”
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded that it’s not the campaign’s ad, and “if the Clinton campaign has questions, they should contact the union that sponsored the ad.”
He goes on to say that “it takes some chutzpah” for the Clinton campaign to complain since it has been “repeatedly launching absolutely false attacks against Senator Obama. … The fact is their camp clearly would like to have workers’ voices silenced and they need to live with that unfortunate position.”
So whats new? The Clintons have always been the masters of hypocrisy and deception. Their playbook comes right out of Karl Marx, “The end justifies the means”

After reading these numerous comments, english or spanish speaking, native or immigrant, who is more American present or past? and…. who offered a solution.
The simple fact is immigrants will continue to enter the USA legal or not because of economics. Make entering the USA an attainable privledge not a right. Similiar to how the Ferderal Reserve regulates the interest rates based on inflation, economic forcast and external variables, we should establish an immigrant worker program. With key elements, such as pre and post screening, employer fines for hiring non-permit workers, incentives for NOT breaking the laws . These permits could be for six months to three years depending on economic statistics and how many times the applicant has renewed, we want those that obey the law. This an idea and not complete, ie.. what about the children born here to workers , do they become second class citizens etc,,
and FYI I am an immigrant (south of the border), naturalized by choice, self employed and an employer.
“Afro Dude” (from March 7) epitomizes the narrow and uneducated thinking of a large portion of people who think their interest groups and freebie entitlements still aren’t enough.. For every leech who collects some sort of free benefit, there is a tax-paying worker who has to pay for it.. The entitlement-minded losers do nothing but breed succeeding generations of the same; more people who think it is someone else’s responsibility to support them..
The entire illegal immigrant issue is absurd. First off, stop saying all of those here are immigrants on Native American’s lands, thus we each have equal rights to America as we all emigrated here. You speak of a past, this is NOW. We are a Nation of United States now, and as such we are sovereign, and have borders. You either respect the borders now, the current language, and the recent ways in which we live, or you do not, and thus leave. Stop attempting to make moot arguments of the past, and using them as excuses for laziness, ignorance, and lawbreaking.
Second, let us also get it straight, ONLY, and most certainly ONLY in the United States are Mexicans, and/or Latinos even considered a “race”. They are a Nationality and an ethnicity, not a “race”. There are Mexicans of European Descent, and Mexicans of African Descent. You also have Mestizos, who are mixed Native, and of course you have full blooded Native Meso-Americans. The full blooded Native Meso-Americans make up less than 18% of the entire population of Mexico. In other Latin American Countries you even have Japanese Descendents, such as in Peru, and in Argentina you have an overwhelming number of Italian Descendents. Latino is NOT a race, and neither is the label of Mexican. If you go anywhere else in the world, a Mexican is a Mexican National, a Latino is simply a person from any Latin American Nation. You can be an Asian Latino, White Latino, Black Latino, it is a regional label, not a racial one.
Third, Latino Immigrants, specifically Illegal Immigrants from South of the U.S. Border need to stop claiming they are oppressed. They are the ONLY, repeat ONLY group of immigrants who can not only flaunt their illegality down streets during marches, but also remain in the United States without documents, and not get deported. A huge shipload of Chinese was turned away from the Port of San Francisco, CA just last year. They had nowhere to go, and would most certainly be executed if they returned to their homeland, yet they were denied entry, and forced to turn around. In South Florida there has been more than one incident during which a boatload of Cubans were allowed entry into Miami Harbor, yet a boatload of Haitians right behind them were turned away. Even American Citizens cannot return to the United States without proper documentation, and yet illegals from South of the Border can bypass this system, which the native born Americans must even follow. Why is it that Filipinos lose their green cards, and then lose their jobs.
They cannot obtain a job without the card, yet, they cannot renew their card without a job. They face immediate deportation. Irish who are caught here illegally are immediately deported. African refugees who hail from far worse conditions than any Latin American could ever imagine, have to wait in line to emigrate to the United States. Once hear, they must obtain and maintain the proper documents, and if they lose them they will be deported. They must even wait 7, 8 years or more to even obtain U.S. Citizenship. Even European Immigrants from Nations such as Finland, Germany, France, and Spain must maintain Visas. If they are caught here illegally they will be deported.
Fourth, do not ever dare compare your issues to those of Black Americans. Nobody forced you to come over to America. Black Americans for the most part were dragged onto ships and forced to “emigrate” to the United States against their will. They are also Americans, this means they are Citizens, and have every right that any other Citizen maintains. You are NOT citizens, you were not dragged here, and you still have the ability to go back home, so DO NOT compare your “struggle” to that of Black America. They are NOT the same issue, and never will be.
Learn your place, and learn where you are at. This is America, and we are supposed to be a Mixing Bowl, not a Flooded Mess. God Bless America.
I am not entirely sure what I am about to write pertains to the above article, but I would like to voice my oppinion. I think it is absolutely rediculous that there needs to be campaign ads in other languages. I would also like to know how people that don’t speak english are aloud to vote! If you do not speak the language of the nation, why are you aloud to voice your oppinion. But then again you already enjoy all of our freedoms, and you didn’t fight for them. You are a lawbreaker. Or you wouldn’t be here at all. Why are we allowing lawbreakers the right to have a voice. Or if they are voting then that must mean they are US citizens. Or am I mistaken there too? And if they are citizens then can they not hear from the canidates in English? If they have the “right” to vote and the “right” to voice their oppinion then they need to be American. American in every sense of the word. That means English speaking, law abiding, tax paying, flag waiving, Americans. Or they need to go home. Since they are still so in love with their homelands. I would also like to know how much this nation wastes every year on being bi-lingual? From signage, translating, and packaging. To allowing illegals to walk into a hospitol and not pay for their care. Why would they care whether we have national healthcare, when they can walk in and not pay for it anyway? They can receive a free education alongside my children. I am the one paying for the overcrowded schools, my kids use to attend in FL, not the illegals. I paid more for car insurance, because they had none. I will not vote for any candidate that panders to them and not for the American citizens they represent.
One of the biggest problems is that illegals (nationality immaterial) come here and many, many of them want the benefits of being an American, without pledging allegiance to this country. If they came, wanted to assimilate, wanted to contribute, wanted to be Americans, learned English, and waved the American flag and not the flag of Mexico, they’d be welcome. The don’t.
Listen, folks. We are a country built up from LEGAL immigrants. The absolute disgrace in this generation, of one particular ethnic group believing they have right to undermine the social, educational and employment system of this great country is the worst disaster to hit the U.S. Ever. English is our language. The law is the law. Just because an enormous uncontrollable group of people breaks a law, does not make it necessary for their actions to become retroactively legal, to erase the mistakes and crimes (yes, entering the country illegally IS a crime) of the past. (If we get enough murderes in jail, will me make it legal just because so many people are doing it!? Hardly.)
It is not about the larger majority getting what they want, it is about doing what is right. And politicians unfortunately think more about how many votes they will get rather than doing what is right. And ANYone who think the solution of this is to become tolerant to two languages with equal weight, giving a free pass to a bunch of illegals, etc. needs to see that NO other country in the world has encoutered this problem as much as the US and allowed it to balloon to the out-of-control nature it is in. It is unthinkable to expect any other nation to cowtow to the wants of an out-of-control group of folks who shouldn’t be here in the first place. If any Latino family has come here for the American dream, went through the red tape, and assymilated, welcome. Otherwise. Go home!
I come from an immigrant European family. My family came here legally, learned the language (funnily enough, I still speak three other languages even though “having” to learn English) and built upon the American dream. Wake up folks. It is already nearly too late- if not too late already. The Univision moderator asking questions first in Spanish on a national U.S. debate was an atrocity- regardless of the debate being broadcast on a Spanish-speaking cable channel. See that this is a problem being exploited for personal gain by politicians- but it is the hard-working LEGAL immigrant and other Americans that will be paying for this for generations to come.
no they didn’t learn the indians languages (they. other people. didn’t. past tense.). we didn’t do it, our predecessors did it. unless you are that old dude. creepy. anyway that doesn’t mean they shouldn’tve. we learn from the mistakes of the past. in this case, if you move toa coutry that speaks language X, learn language X. except in france cuz they don’tlike it when foreiners speak french. and have a nice time at “anonymous fast food retaraunt” trying to order in spanish.
Not only should you learn english, but you should become more white. Eat apple pie. Disenfranchise minorities. Invade other countries under the shield of democracy. Elect presidents who own slaves. Only then can we achieve a truly powerful society.
