Rambo v. Walker, Texas Ranger: Stallone Backs McCain Against Norris’ Huckabee

Border

Rambo himself says John McCain will make the best president. You gonna argue with him? (AP Photo/Lionsgate)

Talk about tough opponents.

After Mike Huckabee enlisted action star Chuck Norris to watch his back on the rough-and-tumble campaign trail, John McCain is tag-teaming with Rocky himself.

Sylvester Stallone told FOX News that he’s supporting the Arizona senator for the 2008 presidential nomination — McCain, a former Vietnam POW, is the real Rambo, Stallone seemed to reason.

“I like McCain a lot,” Stallone said in an interview that aired Thursday. “Things may change along the way, but there’s something about matching the character with the script, and right now the script is being written and reality is pretty brutal and hard edge and like a rough action film, you need somebody who’s been in that to deal with it.”

So who’s badder?

Though both tough-guy surrogates may be better suited for a cage match than a press gaggle, Norris has blended into civilian society, standing tall with Huckabee at rallies and accompanying him in post-debate “spin rooms” to set the media straight about what they just saw.

Stallone apparently has not been recruited for any campaign appearances … yet.

The Texas Ranger’s campaign ad with Huckabee late last year did wonders for the former Arkansas governor’s Web site traffic, with lines like “My plan to secure the border … Chuck Norris” and “There’s no chin behind Chuck Norris’ beard. Only another fist.”

Click here to see Huckabee’s ad on Norris’ endorsement.

Stallone/McCain versus Norris/Huckabee could the ultimate ultimate fighting contest of this election year. McCain, alerted to the surprise Stallone endorsement, said as a result, he’s prepared for the next brutal round on the campaign trail.

“I’m going to Philadelphia and run up the steps … I’m ready,” he told FOX News.

Campaigning later in West Palm Beach, McCain told reporters, jokingly: “Look out Chuck Norris, Sylvester’s comin’ after you. He’s comin’ after you and he’s going to get you. You better run! Chuck, you can run but you can’t hide!”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I am voying for Huckabee. We do not need the same old song and dance that we will get wih McCain. He has done nothing in Washington except draw a paycheck off the taxpayers backs.

Comment by Bob Patterson

Presidential candidates aside, Stallone isn’t a patch on Chuck Norris’ sweat towel…

Comment by JH

Wow, if Sylvester Stallone is endorsing McCain, maybe I’ll switch over to him too.

I mean, stallone is such a genius and all, he knows so much about the economy and governing that I’d be crazy not to follow his lead!

NOT!!! This endorsement might help McCain with those who get all of their political information from action movies, but not with the rest of the country!

Comment by sharon slater

I don’t think Mccain could run-up the steps of anything, he might have a heart attack. And where has Stallone been? still in the jungles of some studio. Haven’t seen him for a while. And you never mention Huckabee name in the news. I’m so sick of hearing Clinton,Obama and Mccain and Romney that i’ll never make it until next fall. Since the media elect the president, would you please put Huckabee in there for me. thanks………..

Comment by JH

Wow, if Sylvester Stallone is endorsing John McCain, then maybe I should vote for him.

I mean, Stallone seems like a really smart guy, who knows all about politics, and who would be best to run our economy and govern our country!

NOT!!! The only people this endorsement with effect, are those who get their political information from action movies!!

Check out Mitt Romney’s endorsements–watch these videos for the story you don’t get here:

MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!

Comment by Apollo

Huh?

Who cares?

I guess it diverts our attention from McCain’s votes against the Bush tax cuts, his amnesty bills and the fact that he crossed the aisle to fight against conservative judges with the gang of 14.

John–what do you know about creating jobs? You have been in Washington DC so long, you wouldn’t even recognize your ‘home’ state of Arizona which just passed legislation making it so that any employer who hires an illegal alien will lose his business license. McCain’s answer to illegal immigration? Z-visas for every illegal alien which makes it so they never have to pay a fine and could stay in America forever–rewarding illegal border crossing = amnesty.

McCain is Washington DC. We need someone from outside to change shake up the executive branch of the federal government.

We need someone who has created real jobs in the real world.

I just read a really scary story that the NY Times wrote the other day about Rudy Guliani. Yes, New York, the city that he came from and has experience in managing. He is a total bully and sore loser when it come to anybody crossing him. He has not tried to work with anyone! He has wrecked sereal lives because somebody stood up to him. We don’t need bullying in Washington! If you think about it, he only has experience in being a Mayor. Is he really trying to jump up to being president?
McCain is not a Republican and yes he is too old to be president. He wants to give you the truth and the facts? There they are, he is 72 years old! That IS old. There are reasons that the retirement age is 65. He will be seven years beyond that if he is elected. If I were him, I too, would want to live in a big white house before I died or retired. (In his case which ever comes first) He was a courageous war hero, we all give him that. That doesn’t give him the qualifications to go and be president. I would support him to be the Secretary of Defense. He has a lot of democratic ideas and that is why the media loves him. I think that they will shoot themselves in the foot if McCain actually get elected. McCain has had his chance of 27 years in Washington and look what good he has done. NOTHING!
Romney is the canidate to vote for. He is organized, experienced, caring, family valued, well balanced, and most importantly different from anything Washington has ever seen. He has the experience that is going to get our country out of this crisis we are in. In MA, he made it a priority to make sure that he fulfilled all of his campaign promises. He has done it before, he will do it again. Come on media people, do yourselves a favor and get behind the one true conservative republican canidate, MITT ROMNEY!

Chuck Norris is the best of the best……. next to Bruce Lee who he fought. Chuck Norris would breath on Sylvester and he would faint.

Comment by David Anderson

As usual, the conservative media distorts the truth. Sylvester Stallone is a very famous beefy, 5′7 actor. Chuck Norris was the world’s champion kick boxer. Comparing those two as macho equals is about par for the course for FOX News.

Comment by mikew

well my granny like norris! but i think Sly has more of the general population support.

If you want a southern baptist preacher as president than huckabee is your man.

Comment by Peace

Whoopdedoo. Do people really become swayed for one candidate or another because of who endorses them? How juvenile and lazy.

Comment by The Kid

Norris/Huckabee…Stallone/McCain…I’m guessin’ next will be Swayze/Romney.

Comment by Roy

Huck can have Chuck and McCain can have Sly. Romney is aiming for Gov. Arnold. Out of all the action heros to get an endorsement from, the one who is the Governor of California is the one to aim for.

Go Mitt!

Comment by cyclone81

I figure Rudy will get Arnold.

This would be an excellent President and VP candidate for the Republican party. There would be no way the democrats could beat them.

It is a great feeling to know there are some conservatives in Hollywood!

Comment by believer146

Dear BA in Las Vegas,

Romney is far from being a conservative. He is pro-abortion and pro-same sex marriage. He might be a good business man and nice to his family but he does not care about the unborn children of this country or traditional marriage. Wake up!! He is from one of the most liberal states in this country. Huckabee is the only real conservative. To bad Fox News is so critical of him.

Comment by Donna

I could care less what celebrity endorses what or who. Unfortunately, there will be people that will follow the ’stars’ opinions. If you can’t think and decide for yourself then don’t vote!

Comment by Jason C.

I can’t believe I just wasted my time reading this.

Comment by y

Yep I will argue with the STEROID idiot. Nobody gives a crap what this man or Hollywood says.

Comment by Brendan

Bringing Stallone on board isn’t going to provide a backbone to McCain’s election year vacillations on key value issues. A whitepaper might change your opinion on the WTO or an aspect of immigration, but common fighting grounds in debates like abortion and guns are pretty fundamental and don’t change overnight. But all the sudden we’ve got McCain saying he has “ALMOST always” supported the conservatives on issues like these. Yeah right. Huckabee has his imperfections, like everyone, but with or without Norris, Huck’s consistently stuck to his views, regardless of the spin it earns him.

Comment by Huguenot

Hmmm. Let’s see here. Stallon supporting a man who knows the consequences of warfare and consistently sticks to his beliefs VS Norris supporting a man who would like to amend the Constitution to enable a religious theocracy to take control of the nation.
Kick his ass, Sly.

Comment by midd2001

If either bad dude helps either McCain or Huckabee, that is sad, that America cares what actors say. Here is a sad fact: Stallone is a better actor then Norris.

Comment by Grayson Breeden

This is a load of bs! Just cause you got a celebraty as a supporter dosn’t make you a better candidate.

Comment by A Bemused Reader

I find Norma Leah McCorvey (Jane Roe)’s endorsement of Ron Paul much more relevant, but that’s just me.

Comment by mike McKinney

ohn McCain is a robot! Look close at the micro bolts in his neck and the way he moves his arms! I wonder who is at the controls? “Reagan the Great” spins in his grave when McCain calls himself a foot soldier in the early days of the Reagan revolution! The choices we have for president are a direct reflection on what we as true conservatives deserve for letting the RINO’s steal our party! I’m willing to fight to get back the control of the ‘Grand Ole’ party. We need a John the Baptist or a John Paul II to lead us out of our complacency.

Comment by doctordoctor

WEll the Marriotts are backing Romney! Geez who cares what these monkies think??? Lets go ask the UFC fighters who they support. They are real life bad-A’s. Does Rambo even have a college degree?

Comment by Great American

Hey now lets not pick on Rocky (he’s got a new movie coming out and it looks good). As for McCain his time has passed (he is the epitome of a Washington Insider and he will not win the nomination). John’s last debate appearance was a little too strange for me (I’m not sure if it was his sinister laugh or the horrible attempt at comedy that made me run for the hills. yikes!).

I think the Huckster’s appeal to guys like Chuck Norris plays well for the average American and frankly that is who will decide the election (not the pundits, fat cats, elites, or whatever you want to call them (I think the term they prefer is: “I am better than you”).

I know I left Rudy out, but Florida is his swan song (be nice to him, he’s a good guy).

I think Ron Paul has a shot at it if he could only persuade Hulk Hogan to support him.

I can see it all now (Vote Ron Paul 2008 the next American Gladiator).

In all fairness, unless Mitt does something real stupid (its possible) he is going to continue to rack up the delegates and continue to be the Front Runner. As for Mitt, I think its time for him to join the battle and pick an action hero (I am thinking Arnold (no girly man for Mitt))

Comment by AH

Gee, what’s next? Comic book characters? Give me a break. Celebrity endorsements, while mildly amusing, do nothing for most voters. I pity the candidate who is DESPERATE enough for one of these guys to endorse him publicly! Hey, there’s an idea…anyone get Mr. T yet?

Comment by PFC McElroy

McCain has my vote as a fellow Military man I think he has tons of good ideas to keep us safe. Plus I just don’t trust Democrats.

Comment by Alfonso DeCarlo

I think that both candidates are using the movie “stars”as a come-on to the voters that like either of them. However, McCain was an the armed forces, he was shot down, he was held captive in the famous “Hanoi Hilton” but is he fit to be presiden? what about Huckabee? are they both prepare to lead this country out of the economic disaster we are facing? what is their solutioh for the “WAR” what is their relationship with the other countries? Not relay in what starts are behide the candidates, relay in common sense and most of all in their integrity and honesty

Comment by chris

LOL at anyone who would base their vote for either of these morons!!!!

Comment by Mr. Incredible

McCain should go to the democratic party, as for Rocky stay out of Politics!! Huckabee and Noris should keep on fighting and maintain the “Eye of the Tiger,”

Comment by Will J.

Mike Wannabe is a weird guy who believes that there is a zombie super being who lives in another dimension telling him what to do. He recently said the constitution should reflect the values of some mythical super being. What the F….? So when Joshua was told by this god being, in the Old Testament, to slaughter all the people of Jericho, and I mean all….men, women and children, that mythical beings values are supposed to be reflected in the constitution? When will people start being reasonable and rational?

Comment by Ray

Well I guess there’s no need to vote America, Rocky # whatever has spoken.

What a bunch of clowns, stick to movies, or stay in the jungle Rambo … and this advice is from a fan of yours!

Comment by Jo

Although I like Stallone and Norris, why should it matter who they endorse? What credentials do either of them have that make them experts at choosing the most appropriate candidate? It’s disturbing to think that someone would vote for a candidate based on an celebrity’s endorsement. Wake up, people! And for the record, I don’t know who I’m voting for. I guess when the time comes I’ll pick the least worse candidate. Is there a block for “none of the above”?

Comment by Jim

Stallone’s dumb all right…as dumb as a fox……….made a living off of Rocky and Rambo….hmmmmmmm….who’s the dummy? and he doesn’t look out of shape in the latest Rocky movie………

You should have stopped after your first 11 words. Once you say “NY Times”, we all know that it’s fiction.

Comment by Doug Gardner

Yah, I’d mess with Stallone, and I’m over-the-hill at 58 years old. His toughness is fake and is for the camera. Nobody messes with Chuck Norris, who’s a martial arts specialist. Whos’ tougher? Norris is much tougher by a longshot!!!!!

Stallone is an egotistical actor who obviously needs the money. Otherwise, why would an old timer like him make another redundant Rambo movie? I’d rather watch cartoons than watch Stallone stroke his ego.

Comment by robert

i am just glad that as a LEGAL permanent resident i won’t actually be required to vote for the next president. i honestly can’t see much redeeming in any of the candidates from either party. this truly is the election of ‘how to pick the best from a bad lot’. and i thought it was getting bad in canada with the candidates available.

this process of hollywood has-beens - or never wazzes - to bolster your campaign, or provide some talking points, is unique to the US but is indicative of the degree to which real, honest, open, issue driven discourse has been abandoned. this, unfortunately, is not unique to the US, but seems endemic in the western world.

i intend to give the latest ‘rambo’ showing a miss. talk about living in the past…

Comment by Anonymous

Why would anyone with half a mind care who endorses a candidate, unless they cant think for themselves or do their own research. Personally I dont care who anyone in Hollywood endorses. I would not consider either to have a good pulse on what conservatives feel or want.

Comment by diana

LOLOLOLOLOLOL…Are these people running for president or trying to get an Oscar? Does McCain and Huckabee really think the US voter is that dumb? That if a Hollywood stunt actor or any person with a good job…governor or rich businessman endorses either of these men that the voters in the US would just run right out, give up their free agency to decide and run right out and vote for them? Do these men think that the US voter has no self-esteem and do not trust their own judgement to decide? This ‘ I GOT AN ENDORSEMENT’>>NANA NANA NANA…It just blows me away. They must think the US voter is stupid.

Well I don’t like either of them (Huckabee and McCain), but I really think Chuck would cream Stallone. Stallone is big but man he doesn’t have the ninja skills like Norris. When Norris does a push-up he’s really not pushing himself up. He’s pushing the world down that’s how bad he is. Go Romney!!!

I hope Huckabee blasts Romney. As far as Rambo & Norris, Rambo is way cooler. Mitt Romney is a pathetic excuse for a candidate. He was always a liberal but when he decided he was going to run for pres. he suddenly decided he better change for the sake of election. Please, we know better Mitt. You are John Kerry a la GOP. Your talk is cheap. Take him down Huck!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to say that if Mitt is so good at jobs then why did major corporations pull out of Boston when he was in? Why was job growth at 10% in the rest of the country and 5% in Massachusettes? or should I say “Taxachusettes”?

With all due respect to Mr. McCain I still have to vote for Mike Huckabee. His values are more in line with mine. I am a vet and I respect Mr. McCain and his service to our country but I have to follow my gut on this one.

Comment by mathew

I would say rocky is pretty cool backing his man up but he is old but his cool.

Comment by Der Kommissar

McCain is a swindler, he is a liberal in repub clothing. The only reason he gets so much attention is the media want s two libs to battle each other in the general election.

I thought Stallone was smarter than that, now I may not be able to go see Rambo. Bummer.

Comment by A-Rob

Rambo is the man. John Mcain is the next President. He is the only man tough enough to handle the current situation that the U.S. is involved in. With him as our leader we will be victorious against the radical terrorists that threaten our freedom and way of life. Rambo 4 is going to be a great movie.

Comment by TomV

Yo Adrian…!!
Let’s face it…what is it with us nowadays that seems to make performers and actors authorities on politics…although, let me think, politicians….actors….Hmmmmm? Much the same type of people….? Anyway…why do we feel that actors are so informed? Micheal Douglas, Jane Fonda, Barbara Streisand….”authorities” one and all….I think what perpetuates this whole thing is all the media ink that Norris and Stallone get just for offering their opinions!!!!

[...] Rambo v. Walker, Texas Ranger: Stallone Backs McCain Against Norris

Comment by JIMDandy

OK so we are proving that politics is being won over by big names in ShowBiz- I though the Republican party was more mature than that! BUT thank goodness the Republican party hasn’t gone as far as the democrats by literally acting/trying out for Hollywood. Face it, either Obama or Clinton is going down in the end anyway, so they better be thinking about taking their drama skills elsewhere while they have the press. In the spirit of it all…I would pick Norris over Stallone- anyone who makes the bowflex look that easy deserves the win. Go Huckabee!

Comment by Tim

Maybe next we’ll hear that Mike Tyson is supporting Hillary. Man, I may have to switch to the other side if that happens. I mean, who can argue with that?

I always avoid stallone… he is an aweful actor and so his endorsement means nothing that will benefit Mccain.

Mitt is to flippy floppy trying to buy the presidency - no way!

Huckabee rocks - he has my vote and my $upport!

Hey phansen0, your buddy “rambo” wouldn’t last 5 seconds against Norris martial arts skills, you should know better. That little pretty RAMBO face whom you idolize would soon become MANGO!!

Comment by GT

Can’t we all just get along?

Comment by Nick

It is sad to see one of my childhood, ok and adult heroes supporting the likes of McCain.

Comment by JD

Nothing wrong with either endorsing whom they please.

Of course, Norris is a multi-time world champion in martial arts, Air Force veteran, has a long record of humanitarian works, is a committed Christian, and writes a weekly column that is better than many of the political pundits who were “profesisonally trained”.

Stallone is an actor and director that a lot of us enjoy watching, although he did do a hardcore porn flick in 1970.

I’d say they are about even in the “acting ability” category, and if they were senile enough to “get into the ring”, Stallone wouldn’t stand a chance agaisnt Norris’ professional fighting abilities.

Why would Stallone’s backing of McCain be surprising? McCain is 100% Democrat in his issues, save the support for the surge. Except for support for the war on radical Islam, McCain doesn’t differ significantly from Clinton or Obama.

Stallone is known to lean liberal, and McCain is liberal, and of McCain, Clinton, Obama, and Edwards, McCain is the most qualified liberal.
.
Norris is known to lean conservative, and Huckabee is now the lone cosnervative running for President, now that Thompson and Hunter are out.

Comment by romney4_08_prez

I have to agree with phansen0, Stallone would absolutely kill Chuck!

As for real politics, Romney is the man all the way. But the fact of the matter is, most conservatives, particulary the Evangelical Christians, will never vote for him just for the simple fact that he is Mormon. I am a “Non-Denom” Christian, part of the Evangelicals, who WILL vote for Romney in the Primary, but I really think that McCain is going to get the Repub. nod for prez. And if that’s the case, I will vote for McCain for prez in November. The last thing we want is Clinton or Obama in there!! Just remember that!!

Comment by Schwartz

Stallone brought up a good point. The script that is playing out now is one like Rambo or 300, not some chick-flick. All candidates in this race (on both sides) are way too soft. McCain is the only person that might have the guts/strength to do what’s right for our security. At the end of the day, I’ll take my chances with poor policy over getting nuked.

Comment by Andrew Colton

They are both terrible actors. Every Rocky movie was bad & you can’t find a crappier show on TV as Walker Texas Ranger.

Comment by K.K.

I have always loved the Rocky movies, seen them all repeatedly, but I think actors and musicians should entertain and not throw thier star status around in subjects where they do not belong

Reply to “BA in Las Vegas”

I disagree with your pick ‘Romney’. Romney is plowing millions of his own money to buy his way in. He buys consultants and focus groups to tell him what he needs to do to win. Thats why he has been accurately named a flip flopper. The man has shown he will do anything to get elected. Look into the real authentic conservative; Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is doing well on only grass roots funds. He is the real deal, please take a close look at his website.

Sorry phansen0, but Stallone would not have a chance. Like John said, Norris is for real. In 1968, he became the Professional World Middleweight Karate Champion and held that title undefeated for 6 years until he retired from the sport. He is one of three westerners to ever be awarded an eighth-degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do.

Well, it isn’t the “movie stars” that we are voting for now is it?! If Americans use their heads to “THINK” with and not just to wear hats, and wigs on, then they will consider that America is in
a real mess now! Not only the war on terror, the health care mess, economy, plus we are not considered “GREEN” enough for the other parts of the world! But we should get back to “HIGH MORALS” with good standards of living and yes get back to GOD! Not “RELIGION”, but GOD! HE is the “BASIC ROOT” to solve our problems! The RELIGIONS of the world are a big problem now! They all are in the ring “duking it out”! And that is a “MAN made thing”, not a “GOD thing”! We should try to get a candidate in there who is going to help America get back to the basics again and from there I believe if “people will CHANGE, then the country will CHANGE” and when the country changes for the better, “GOD will BLESS America again”! For my 2 cents worth (that
is about all ANY of OUR thoughts are worth :) I think Pres. and vice Pres. should be Huckabee &
McCain together! :)

A muscular Stallone and martial artistic Norris? They’re all work just fine for GOP. Don’t have any objective here.

Again, President Geogre W. Bush (a Harvard not an academic but also a business man) not just did a tax cut but knows how to make Demorats agreed to put more $$$ in your pocket (Democrats should thanks Bush for this ’cause their invesment are down too and… they benefit from it of couse)

President Bush did 3 big (very very big things):

Conservative Supreme court (Liberals knows they’re 98% wrong)
Read my lip: TAX CUT became law and now even more $$$ to people pocket (Dems tried to undo it but failed! thanks God)
Plan the seed in the middle east for the sake of future security (We don’t want to run around like Demorats)

Hillary and Obama: We have a “dream” not reality. Man, crap again blah blah blah
