Kerry: Bill Clinton Is Abusing the Truth
Sen. John Kerry defended Barack Obama in a radio interview Friday, saying Bill Clinton has been abusing the truth in his bid to trumpet his wife’s candidacy.
The Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, who has endorsed Obama, was asked about the campaign-trail bickering between Hillary Clinton and her husband and Obama on National Journal radio.
“I think you had an abuse of the truth, is what happened,” Kerry said. “I mean, being an ex-president does not give you license to abuse the truth, and I think that over the last days it’s been over the top. Things have been said about Barack Obama’s positions that are just plain untrue.
“It was said in Nevada, it’s been said about Social Security, it’s been said about Yucca Mountain, and it’s been said in South Carolina. I think it’s very unfortunate, but I think the voters can see through that. When somebody’s coming on strong and they are growing, people get a little frantic, and I think people have seen this sort of franticness in the air, if you will.”
Hillary Clinton has also accused Obama of growing frustrated following his defeat in the Nevada caucuses Saturday.
But her husband has taken heat for his prominent role in the campaign, and Obama complained in a debate Monday that sometimes he doesn’t know against whom he’s campaigning.
Asked about the backlash against Bill Clinton’s role, Hillary Clinton told the CBS Early Show Friday, “You know he gets excited; he gets really passionate making the case for me. He said several times yesterday that maybe he got a little carried away so we are all going to on both sides, I think, try to bring this debate back to the issues that are most important.”
Both leading Democratic candidates have moved to tone down the race ahead of the South Carolina primary Saturday, with each pulling negative ads against the other.

Since most of these messages are anti-clinton I want to throw my two cents in. My remarks are not at Obama supporters. If he is the party nominee I’ll vote for him. But if this mess of anti-clinton remarks are coming from the Repugs and clinton haters your stuff is old. The only reason to keep bringing it up is because you got it from the usual suspects. Obama supporters can support their candidate, look at Loretta and Linda Sanchez. They are in the same family. One is a clinton supporter the other an Obama. This parting things to show support does not have to be such a division that at the end the Dems can’t pull back together. Look down the road a little farther the Repug Roadblock is up ahead. There was a beginning to all of this and it was to end the long nightmare of George W. Bush. But how’s that going to happen if we keep beating up all our comrades?
Hey Dennis Pugh,
You forgot this one that also has affected our
country. And we thought the war started in 2001…
Hey the Clinton administration dealt with weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, too. You’d never know it to hear the Clintons talk now.
Three days following a disastrous attempt at apology for lying to the American public, on August 17, 1998 Bill Clinton launched a missile attack on several facilities in an attempt to halt terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Clinton seems to have purposely delayed it for political reasons. The attack on Bin Laden had in fact been proposed over a week in advance but was delayed by Clinton. Clinton then acted when he felt it was politically appropriate.
The day following a settlement with Paula Jones, Clinton made an aborted strike on Iraq. Though the timing of this event was probably the least manueverable of three incidents worthy of pointing out, Clinton did act at an excellent time for press coverage. He successfully kept the Jones settlement off the news for an entire weekend.
The third incident is the most blatantly obvious manipulation of power. One day before he was to be impeached, Clinton called an uncharacteristic suprise air attack on Iraq. Though the stated reason was refusal to allow UN weapons inspections, one must note that Saddam Hussein acted no differently than he had in the preceding six months. Though Hussein’s actions have long warranted a military strike, Clinton prevented any action until the time suited him. To delay his inevitable impeachment, Clinton put American lives in the line of fire by striking Iraq. This action alone constitutes among the lowest forms of manipulation and abuse of power that America has ever seen.
