McCain, Romney Trade Insult: You’re a Liberal
John McCain hits the campaign trail with fellow Sens. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., and Mel Martinez, R-Fla.
With less than 24 hours until primary polls open in Florida, top GOP rivals John McCain and Mitt Romney continued a barrage of attacks on each other, freely using the “L”-word to bash one another.
Romney hammered hard on a climate-change bill that McCain has supported with his friend and colleague, Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman, saying the legislation will result in a tax increase. He also went after McCain for the Arizona senator’s role in campaign finance bill and the failed immigration reform bills.
“If you ask people, ‘Look at the three things Senator McCain has done as a senator,’ if you want that kind of a liberal Democratic course as president, then you can vote for him,” Romney told campaign workers. “But those three pieces of legislation, those aren’t conservative, those aren’t Republican, those are not the kind of leadership that we need as we go forward.”
In response, McCain pointed to flip-flopping and tax-raising on Romney’s behalf, accusing the former Massachusetts governor of “wholesale deception of voters. On every one of the issues he has attacked us on, Mitt Romney was for it before he was against it.”
He added, “The truth is, Mitt Romney was a liberal governor of Massachusetts who raised taxes, imposed with Ted Kennedy a big government mandate health care plan that is now a quarter of a billion dollars in the red, and managed his state’s economy incompetently, leaving Massachusetts with less job growth than 46 other states.”
McCain later told a Jacksonville audience that Romney has been “entirely consistent. He’s consistently taken at least two sides of every issue, sometimes more than two.”
The two are also locked in an all-out advertising blitz that has reached fever pace. But McCain’s leaner campaign hasn’t run nearly as many ads in total in Florida, in comparison to his better-funded rivals Romney and Rudy Giuliani. Since last March, McCain has run only 470 TV ads, while Romney — who tops the list of GOP candidates — has flooded the market with 4,475 ads. Giuliani has purchased 3,067 advertising units through Jan. 22, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
The exchange reflected the stakes in Tuesday’s contest, a prelude to a virtual nationwide primary on Feb. 5.
The polls show McCain and Romney in a state race that is too close to call.
McCain collected endorsements in recent days from Florida’s top two Republican elected officials, Sen. Mel Martinez and Gov. Charlie Crist, as well as from a slew of Florida newspapers. The former Vietnam prisoner of war also has universal name recognition, as well as ownership of an issue important to the large number of veterans and active military in the state, national security.
But Romney has a get-out-the-vote effort in the state that has been at work on early voters as well as those seeking to cast absentee ballots.
A former businessman, he has campaigned as the man with the credentials to shore up the economy, a counter to McCain’s national security credentials.
Giuliani and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are also on the ballot, but recent surveys show them several points behind the front-runners.
Giuliani declined to join the name-calling melee.
“My opponents are fighting each other, calling each other names. Let them do that. We’re not going to call anybody names. I want Florida to send a message that the kind of candidate you want and the kind of president you want is one that can remain focused on positive goals,” Giuliani told an audience in Sanford, Fla.
McCain is expected to do well in areas with a strong military presence — Pensacola, Jacksonville and Tampa. He’s also hoping for a strong turnout in Miami, with its Cuban-American population, and Orlando, a melting pot with a strong Puerto Rican community.
Romney is fighting for the southwest part of the state around Fort Myers and Sarasota; an area much like the Midwest, where he was raised. Another likely stronghold for him, Palm Beach and Broward County, home to many Northeastern transplants.
Up for grabs is the corridor between Tampa and Daytona Beach along Interstate 4, a swing part of the state that has seen much growth and is home to roughly two-thirds of the Republican primary vote.
Romney was in West Palm Beach while McCain was in Jacksonville as they set out on their final full day of Florida campaigning.
Addressing phone bank workers who came out to the airport to see him off on a state fly-around, Romney said three key bills that McCain pushed in Congress steered the country on “a liberal Democrat course.”
Romney said the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law “hit the First Amendment” with its controls over advertising spending.
He labeled last year’s failed McCain-Kennedy immigration bill “the amnesty bill” because it would have allowed illegal immigrants to remain in the country indefinitely. Romney also said a 2003 McCain-Lieberman energy cap-and-trade bill would have increased energy costs for the average Florida family of four by $1,000.
He also drew chuckles from his audience when he recalled talk during the 2004 campaign that McCain was teaming up with Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic presidential nominee, on the opposing party’s ticket.
“Had someone asked me that question, there would not have been a nanosecond of thought about it; it would have been an immediate laugh,” Romney said. “And, of course, if someone asked him if he would consider me as a running mate, he would have also laughed immediately.”
During a news conference, Romney noted Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, who has drawn large crowds in his bid for the presidency.
Asked how he would counter Obama if he were the nominee, Romney said, “The nation will divide in two parts — politically, at least.”
He said of his own supporters: “Some may be less demonstrative in how they show their support for that vision, but I believe fundamentally that America is not interested in following a socialistic-style, government-run nation.”
Emphasizing his signature issue, McCain toured the grounds of Atlantic Machine, which builds Navy ships and commercial vessels, before holding a roundtable in one of the company’s warehouses with national security experts, including Former CIA Director Jim Woolsey and former Veterans Affairs Secretary Tony Principi.
In his statement issued before the event, McCain likened Romney to Kerry over the weekend in a Web ad that superimposed the face of the former governor on an image of the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate windsurfing. The campaign also acknowledged that it has been running a radio ad statewide in Florida since Friday that assails Romney’s record.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Any conservative/republican who thinks that McCain is conservative should have their head examined. You don’t sponsor the bills that he has sponsored with the people he has and get to be a conservative still. As for McCain’s attacks on Mitt Romney, I would only believe them if I say some hard evidence. The only evidence that I have seen of a Romney flop is with abortion, and at least he came out with it and confessed his error. The rest of the flip-flop image is purely made up by McCain and the liberal MSM that would love for a liberal to be the republican nominee because you can’t loose with a liberal vs. liberal ticket if you are liberal. Think about it! My vote is for Mitt Romney.
Their all liberals and will say anything to get elected.
Flip-flopping? I’m sorry McCain, you sir are the flip-flopper. Who was against the Bush tax cuts and now if for them??? McCain is throwing punches here in the final day of campaigning, too bad he’s 71 and will get “knocked-out” after Florida!
Go Romney!
Romney is buying this election. Overall TV ad numbers in Florida:
Romney: 4,475
Giuliani: 3,067
McCain: 470
Huckabee: 0
On top of that, Romney’s supporters funded the Club for Growth’s attack ads against Huckabee in New Hampshire and South Carolina, effectively knocking Huckabee out of the race. That is just so wrong especially when you compare Romney’s fiscal record in Massachussets against Huckabee’s. Today, McCain is finally getting out the truth about Romney. McCain said, “The truth is, Mitt Romney was a liberal governor of Massachusetts who raised taxes, imposed with Ted Kennedy a big government mandate health care plan that is now a quarter of a billion dollars in the red, and managed his state’s economy incompetently, leaving Massachusetts with less job growth than 47 other states.”
It’s a shame what has happened to Huckabee. His record has been smeared by Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. Huckabee is a fiscal conservative by any reasonable account. Yes, taxes went up 47% in Arkansas, but that was over 11 years. And unlike Massachussetts, the economy in Arkansas grew at a rate faster than the national average. What happens when the economy grows? Your tax revenues grow! So much in fact, that Arkansas is now enjoying an $850 million surplus. And the tax burden for Arkansas residents remains one of the lowest in the country. I just hope that Huckabee can get on McCain’s ticket in November. Huckabee is still young and could be back in 2012.
How many times has Romney flip flopped on abortion? That is the question here.
McCain to Romney: We meant liberal is bad!
Romny to McCain: We know!
GOP: message is clear!
Its unfortunate you sheep out there are voting for a Flip-Flopping Kerry-like hoax like Romney. Good guy but too much of a politician. Here this country has a chance to finally elect someone with a roll-up-the sleeves mentality. Rudy Giuliani. He has held Welfare recepients responsible to work for what they get. He has cut taxes for people like me that pays them. He closed down Porno shops in areas where children walked to school. He took down the most powerful Mob Boss in the history of the Mafia. His accomplishments go well beyond any of his competitors. But I guess going to the general is more important to you sheep voters than WINNING against Hillary. Mitt Romney nor McCain will beat Hillary come November. Wake up people. I guarantee it!
John McCain’s desperation is really starting to show. If a candidate has to fabricate or stretch the truth about hisa opponents then he’s not being honest with the American people or himself.
When you sacrifice your integrity you can not be a leader!
As a 30 year Air Force veteran I will not support anybody who sacrifices their integrity.
The only thing I have found that Gov Romney has “flip flopped” on is his position on abortion. But at least he was man enough to come out and admit he had changed his view.
I respect John McCain for his service to his country (as a fellow veteran) but I can longer repsect the man when he is dishonest in his campaign.
I will not be voting for John McCain in the primary, nor will I vote for him if he is the GOP nominee.
I am not for McCain…I’m for Mike Huckabee!
But, Republicans need to talk to the democrats and vise versa, they should work together and hopefully be friends. They can always agree to disagree
Sounds like some Republicans want to act like the Democrats and put the other party down, that will not get you anywhere.
You get more flys with honey…than with vinager.
ROMNEY…NO WAY.
To The Brain
Don’t call McCain a Liberal. Liberals don’t want him.
You said: “You don’t sponsor the bills that he has sponsored with the people he has and get to be a conservative still”
Well, you can’t support the war in Iraq like he does and get to be called a Liberal.
He’s some sort of mutant that neither the Conservatives or Liberals want.
@ The Brain
I take offense to your comments as a Republican.
Also there are a lot of things Mitt has lied about. His creation of Jobs in Massachusetts, his health care plan’s success, his stance on the war, etc. He lies as much as Bill Clinton does.
This is a rare case of both Romney and McCain telling the truth!
Romney is no conservative either. His stance on the 2nd Amendment, and small government are hardly stalwart examples of conservative values. His state has some of the most draconian gun legislation in the nation, and the man himself comes across as a typical New England aristocrat. He’s only marginally better than McCain. For these two to get into a race over who is the least liberal is like naming the valedictorian of summer school. The only real conservative dropped out of this race after South Carolina. We’re just narrowing down who is the least liberal out of a filed of RINOs. I have my nose plugs all ready for November.
Why does the caption above indicate Lieberman is a Democrat Senator? He’s and Independent! Oh yeah, I forgot, Fox is busy trying to railroad McCain in favor of the pseudocon, Mitt Romney.
Who should Giuliani voters support since Giulinani is now hinting he will be droping out of the race? Since McCain said he may not appoint a conservative judge like Alito, would McCain end up putting another Souter on the bench? McCain’s Hispanic outreach director is Dr. Juan Hernandez, an open-borders, put Mexico first advocate. Should Republicans really put a democrat on the ticket by voting for McCain? McCain also seems like a democrat with Kerry indicating he (Kerry) was approached by the McCain camp to put McCain on as the Vice President in 04. With the nomination narrowing down to the media favorite McCain and the conservative Romney, it seems there is only one Republican left to vote for, Mitt Romney.
McCain will say, attack and do anything to get elected. Also, his temper is really a problem. Romney is a great family man and has many reasons to protect our National Security.
My vote is for Romney!
We conservatives have been burned one too many times by the stubborn, arrogant and bull headed Senator from Arizona. We will have no part in him winning the nomination or for that matter, the most most pwerful position on earth. Besides his many many betrayals to his parties faithful he is too old and dangerous to carry the nuclear satchel. He has a very bad temper too. Would not want to be around him on the morning of Feb 6, 08
Let Romney and McCain continue to blast each other with bitter words designed hopefully to sway voters into their camp! Personally, I am supporting the only candidate who is showing real class and integrity, rising above this type of rhetoric by discussing the issues he is promoting rather than hurling insults, Mike Huckabee.

Let Mitt explain his beliefs.
I know Fox wont like this because Romney is the Washington establishment’s choice (the lobbyists and even Dick Cheneys daughter!), but McCain is going to continue to fight for what he believes in, and he has said what he believes. Romney tells you what you want to hear and then does what is best for him, which as president will be to listen to lobbyists.
I think it’s going to be difficult for true Republicans because McCain has a better chance of winning an election than Romney, yet he has a record of un-republican voting on numerous issues.
Rudy is still in this, watch for a surpise tomorrow.
Want to see an attack on McCain by Rudy?
Go watch Rudy’s new commercial “Not Endorsed”, on joinrudy2008.com
Wow brain you are a joke…
As a resident of Massachusetts I will take great pride in voting for Romney. He pulled us out of a terrible fiscal mess which is only now coming back once we voted in a democratic govenor. I actually am scratching my head every day trying to understand how McCain, someone who has done his best to hurt the republican party, has made it this far. Sadly if McCain gets the Republican nod, I will have trouble voting for him and will not vote at all.
It is amazing to me how conservative McCain suddenly sounds when an election year comes around. It is also funny how he accuses Romney of flip-flopping when all we have seen of McCain this entire election is how he wants to be on all sides of these issues with which he has problems with conservatives. And let’s make no mistake, John McCain voted against the Bush Tax Cuts because he was mad at George W. for winning South Carolina. He can say what he wants about spending, but those of us with memories remember the truth. Don’t buy into the McCain hoax. Go Romney!!!
Willard AKA Mitt made his millions by raping companies. Bain bought them cheap, fires the workers, then sells them when the books are cooked. Vote Romney and bend over to be next. Kiss your job goodbye; it will be outsourced to Bangalore before you can say flipper. See about it below;
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/01/27/as_bain_slashed_jobs_romney_stayed_to_side/
McCain is a liar
MCCAIN IS A DISASTER. HE IS A LIBERAL THROUGH AND THROUGH AND THAT IS BASED ON HIS VOTING RECORD. CAN YOU IMAGE HIM IN A DEBATE WITH OBAMA? GOD HELP US IF HE IS THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE. HE SHOULD BE THROWN OUT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. WHY CAN’T PEOPLE SEE THIS? MITT ROMNEY IS THE ONLY ONE RIGHT NOW THAT CAN SAVE US AND THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA KNOW THAT. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE PUSHING MCCAIN SO MUCH.
Willard AKA Mitt’s statement about the timetable is doublespeak. We need a timetable but keep is secret. That way he can say he supported a timetable and didn’t. Who in their right mind would think it’s possible to have that secret? Even considering a timetable is a losing war strategy that will lead to surrender.
This is just another Mittism like his answer in the debate about catastrophic insurance. He said he supported a national program but not if someone in Iowa pays for a loss in FL. Is he serious? This is another one where he flips mid-sentence so he supports it and doesn’t at the same time.
Americans are tired of this dishonesty. This is not a conservative or republican value. Mitt is loose with the truth, wants to be on every side of every issue, and says whatever he needs to get elected. This is his track record all the way back to 1994. If he is the nominee he will be torn to shreds with his own words and record.
Oh, and for those swayed by fake testimonials… I used to support Mitt, I really like his hair, he looks so Presidential, and he says things that make me feel good, maybe he will tell us all how to make money like he did. But this last reminder (Timetable) that he wants to surrender really has me switching to McCain. He is the only one who can lead us from day one as Commander is Chief.
Please correct this article to reflect the Joe Lieberman is an Independent not a Democrat. Lieberman caucuses with the Democrats is is registered to vote as a Democrat but he was elected as an Independent and does not represent Connecticut Democrats.
Update the photo description for this article. Joe Lieberman is an Independent, not a Democrat! Quit trying to make it look like a democrat is endorsing McCain.
Its unfortunate that the Huckabee campain was damaged by lying political adds:
See released murderer that murdered…He didn’t.
See was a liberal tax increaser…so was Reagan and Bush Sr. (Sometimes you have to)
Even foxnews and CNN have his immidgration position wrong on their websites.
He has signed an oath to not give illigal immigrants a special pathway into the US.
He has said deporting 11 million people isn’t the answer…but that means they will leave on their own if you enforce labor laws and add penalties specifically targetting hiring illegals.
Both McCain and Romney are not the answer.
Goto http://www.MikeHuckabee.com if you don’t believe me. Or simply use google and sift through the mud yourself as I have done.
Vote Romney!! If you want a dem in office vote McCain.
It’s the economy, despite McCain’s distortions over the weekend. I can’t imagine voting for McCain with his admitted inexperience on the economy in these perilous times (where Obama has even said the economy is “teetering on the edge”), when McCain never been in the private sector and Mitt Romney is the turnaround artist who saved any number of companies, the Olympics and the State of Massachusetts. McCain has said himself he doesn’t know enough about the economy. We need someone who doesn’t need on the job training.
McCain is a Liberal I am unsure of any conservative/republican. McCain follow the liberals although he would like for you to think he is a conservative..
I am not sure I like any candidated at the moment.
McCain is flip flopping now.
McCain a liberal, Hillary and Obama are socialists. I am still looking at Romney it takes some time.
We have to ask ourselves what it is exactly what we want for our county, to fix Washington maybe the better change would be Ron Paul. He at least comes up with the truth and has many good points.
First time in my life after voting for 52 years I am not seen what would be the best candidate maybe we will be lucky and have an honest to great conserative step in very soon then our woes will be over.
Carolyn Deem
Clymer, PA
Romney is a fake and he is from a liberal state and he is a liberal. Why would give a millionaire a perm. retirement check from the taxpayers as president. Does he not have enough money. I do not want my checking going to him.
http://www.mikehuckabee.com
Mitt Romney is our only hope for this country!!
Even I am amazed at the lies that McCain will stoop to. That is the voice of a desparate man. McCain certainly has shown his true colors and lack of integrity. Is that a man we want for President? Not me.
Puts me more in favor of Romney that ever. I’m praying for his success in Florida.
Ron Paul 2008
Why not go for the man not involved with this mud slinging. Also he is the man that can relate to the little guy. He is for gun rights so all hunters and fisherman he will stand up for your rights. He is a good Christian man that has not broken his vow to his wife and married another. Also he is a Holy Bible believing man not some mormans book of untruths. So there you have it vote Mike Huckabee all the way to the white house. God bless you MIKE as you continue on.
Mitt Romney can not be trusted. He will say anything and pay anything to win. Just look at the debate, Romney cheated. Do you want someone dishonest and deceptive as our president? Don’t believe me? Look at these 3 videos. Romney has someone telling him what to say. And yes, the prompts are in the original video feed. Romney’s cheating tells us a lot about his character. I want a president that has integrity and Romney proves here he does not.

Gov. Romeny is stating a fact about McCain being liberal. His record and his statements prove it.
Romeny all the way!!!
McCain is getting ugly trying to stick the flip-flopper label on Romney so that even the truth can’t make it come off again.
If a real analyst were trying to use metrics to determine Romney’s success as governor concerning growth in MA, one would NOT use the “growth of MA slower than other states during Romney’s tenure”. An example of a relevant metric is the number of companies moving to or seriously considering moving to MA which greatly increased during Romney’s tenure. There was and still is a liberal legislature there. Romney turned it around to going the right direction. He didn’t claim that MA was a leading state for growth by the end of his term.
McCains attacks are vastly misleading, personal, and nebulous. Romney’s attacks are well-known and documented facts. McCain is claiming to be the strait shooter!????
Go Romney!
Please, the way the Republican establishment has pandered to Romney the past few weeks is pathetic. Romney would be crushed in a general election against Hillary or Barack. The Republican Party does not need to be nominating anyone from the Northeast peroid. The South will give lackluster support to such a candidate and so will the Midwest. Dillute those two areas and the Blue population centers will rule the day. A Mccain/huckabee or huckabee/mccain ticket is prob. the best shot of uniting the Party. All Romney does is get upset when someone questions what he says and its not pleasant to see.
While McCains so-called liberalism is viewed that way by some, it may also reflect an ability to reach across the aisle and join WITH democrats to create legislation we can all live with, outside the pigeon holes of “Liberal” or “Conservative”
The Republican “rule or ruin” mentality has made me into an Obama supporter. That is real change
With an endorsement from the New York Times, how conservative can McCain be?? I think McCain’s buddy, Ted Kennedy, is more conservative than he is. Why doesn’t McCain just switch to the Democratic party?
I agree with Brian. Romney changed his views on abortion and for perfectly good reason. McCain just flip-flopped on the bush tax cuts. McCain was against them twice before he was for them. McCain is not in any way a republican. McCain has no idea how to run a country. He admitted that too. Of course he flip-flopped on that too and now say he knows all about the economy. McCain represents all that is wrong with politics. Romney is the honest outsider who is intelligent and can turn this country around.
Romney 08
McCainites just give it up!!!! your man is tired and needs a nap….You can only drink so many RED BULLS in one day to help keep your eyes open.
Huckabee to rescue McCain. WOW Imagine that. 2 on 1 thats gangteter love for you….. Romney and Giuliani need to start tag teaming back. McCain couldn’t survive that kind of a body slam and Huckabee would just opt out and run home to ARK
Put it on Pay per view… ROMNEY And Giuliani 2009
Vote for Huckabee. The only difference in him and Romney is that Romney is for Gun Control. And that Huckabee can connect with people 500 times better than any of the other candidates.
Unfortunately, the pres in its mad rush to declare a winner before the votes are cast, have made both of these two the front runners, to the detriment of the two guys I would vote for, Huckabee or Giuliani. Its tiome to demand from our media just the facts, and let US decide just who the hell the candidate will be. Huckabee comes in SECOND in S Carolina (and would have been first if not for Thompson), and he is ‘fading’ even as he is second in the dlegate count, and clearly a much better choice for us rank and file conservative Republicans than McCain–McCain Feingold, amnesty, not tax cuts ‘for the ric’ McCain, who let his hatred for Bush blind his judgement, and put him in bed with the Dems like Kennedy again and again. And Romney? I can see the ads from the Dems know–another rich, spoiled Bush-like Republican. And Giuliani–being from the NYC metro area, I can tell you first hand that Rudy is a first rate leader who did what 50 years of Dem mayors could not–clean up and revive the nations largest city, against a majority of Dems on the city council. But he ‘fades’ becasue the Liberal media has annointed McCain.
Well, well…we see that ’straight talker’ John McCain is anything but. He comes out Saturday with a blatant lie accusing Mitt Romney of wanting ‘timetables’ in Iraq—when he knows full well that is not true. The so-called ‘Straight Talk Express’ has derailed. Don’t be fooled, Floridians! This guy is saying and doing anything he can to get elected! Shame on him for lying! He is lib in Republican clothing–the only thing ‘conservative’ about him is his support of the war and the surge. If this old, mean, man gets the nomination, I, as a Republican will be sitting out this election. Then, we’ll get a good dose of Miss Hillary for four years and enough bad medicine for Republicans so they’ll come up with a real conservative candidate in 2012! Don’t let this happen!! Vote Romney, Florida!!
Is that a picture of McCain with Joe Liberman a democrat? And McCain is saying he is not a liberal. Hmmmmm
I have been watching this back and forth exchange between Romney and McCain, and I just cannot believe the gall of McCain. He’s like a little 5-yr-old; I half expect him to stick out his tongue at the camera when he talks badly about Romney. It’s comical, and I really don’t think it’s attractive behavior for a presidential candidate. It’s fine if they disagree on issues, but McCain really took Romney’s comment about “timetables in Iraq” and twisted it to look like Romney wanted a withdrawl date. Anyone can tell that that’s not what Romney was saying, and I would guess a lot of McCain’s supporters will be not be endorsing him at the voting booth tomorrow because of that blatant mutilation of Romney’s statement. We don’t need a president who would stoop to that level. I respect McCain’s military service, but that doesn’t qualify him to be our president. He seems to think it does. Send McCain a thank-you note and give Romney your vote! He’s the one who can really help our country get out of the messes we are in… in so many areas.
Neither one of these guys have done anything to allow themselves to be called liberal. Neither are worthy of that claim. They both sit there and flap their jaw talking about Hillary and Barack are out of touch, when in reality, it is they who are completely out of step with a majority of Americans on so many important issues.
Please vote for McCain, he is the next best liberal after O’Bama.
McCain must be a plant. The Republican party will never be the same if McCain is elected. Global warming, McCain Feingold Campaign Finance, Amnesty for illgals are not conservative beliefs. Who needs a liberal when you have McCain?
Romney for President!!
I couldn’t agree with The Brain more. McCain is a liberal in conservatives clothing. There was only one other candidate more conservative than Romney, which was Thompson. Unfortunately Thompson disappointed all with his lackluster campaign. Do your research and you’ll see that there’s only one conservative candidate left…ROMNEY.
Your right on point Brain, if you are willing to forget that Romney brought forth a health plan with mandates that punished small businesses and provided a co-pay for abortions. His recent conversion to a pro life persuasion should also leave real conservatives queasy along with his equivocation about his commitment to the surge in Iraq. But hey, if I believed everything I read, I would belive mitt was a conservative too!
The Brain you are totally correct, McCain is just making up stories about Romney because he knows Romney is a much better candidate and knows how the economy works unlike McCain who has admitted it and now says he did not ever say that. Who is the flip flop now McCain????
Mitt Romney is the man for the job. He’s got my vote.
The funny joke is that they are both liberals….
Think first lady folks. I think we would all agree that Bill should not be first lady. McCains wife is a Barbie. A couple of weeks ago they kept showing her going up a set of stairs sideways because her skirt was too tight. Guiliani wife is a no no, and I am not even going to comment about Huckabees wife. Who do we want to represent our country as the first lady…… presidency aside (ha ha). Anne Romney is the only clear choice. Vote for first lady. I think we would agree that Anne would dominate the polls on this issue.
Go Anne Romney!!!! You would make America proud.
I would vote for that one cult guy, because cults are good. I’ve heard of a JK flip-flop as an electrical engineering major, but never a ROMney flip-flop. I bet it has many applications in electronics. Also, mormons are really smart and Romney is a cult leader, which is awesome.
John McCain is the only Republican that can beat Billary or Barack Osama. That
is the bottom line fact. McCain should be the nominee if the Republicans wanna win.
Mitt Romney is worth around $200Million do you think he relates to / cares about you, a person who makes $2,000 a month before taxes and thinks he wants to cut taxes because he thinks he will me a millionaire someday? Your answer is no. He doesn’t care about you at all. He will do the same ass all the others tell you what you want to hear and drop you like a sack of smelly diapers when he’s elected. I want to be protected and the person who can do that in McCain… God save the dreamer… Wake up Brian. He’s not the next comming of Regan. He’s just another rich man who wants to buy an election.
I am very disheartened by the Republican field thus far…The Liberal biased media seems to give us no real Conservative hopefuls. All the front runneres are RINO’s..Any of them would be infinitly preferable to ‘Bill-ary’ or Obama—but,If any of the current RINO’s were to win—The damage that our country would face as a result, would be blamed on a Republican president.I think we might be better to let the Socialists win and them be blamed for the damage—-But would America survive Liberal/Socialism for even 4 years—-It is riddle wrapped in an enigma… Michal
Huckabee’s campaign is not “fading” in Florida. Some polls show him TIED with Rudy. He is Florida’s conservative choice. FoxNews and other news media do not report everything — only what they want you to hear. There are plenty of energetic rallies happening with very enthusiastic Huckabee supporters. The Jacksonville Times-Union’s website has a buried story by Timothy Gibbons about a “Rock the Boat” FairTax rally that happened yesterday afternoon at the Jacksonville Landing.
“The former Arkansas governor has made the tax system change a hallmark of his campaign since Iowa, when he said he was introduced to the idea. Fitting for the audience, his speech concerned itself wholly with the FairTax proposal, which he said would “empower ordinary Americans rather than the government.”
By taxing consumption rather than earnings, the FairTax would encourage productivity, help bring manufacturing jobs back to America and revive free enterprise, Huckabee said.
“I’m calling on America to replace nonsense with common sense,” he said.
The FairTax group didn’t endorse Huckabee, it stressed, saying that it had invited all of the candidates to appear.
Nonetheless, the feeling of most in attendance was clear, from the Huckabee signs filling the crowd to the full-throated “We Like Mike” chants. ”
Mitt Romney owns Bain Capital, which in turn owns Clear Channel, which receives news feeds from many media outlets, including FoxNews. Of course Governor Romney is going to get more favorable press than any other candidate simply by his affiliation with the news media. Does that mean he’s the best choice? No.
For that, voters need Mike Huckabee.
*LMAO* Oh I needed a good laugh today. McCain likened Romney to Kerry but is on video for all to see calling Kerry a friend and mentions jumping to the Democratic side of the aisle. Funny stuff.
McCain doesn’t know if he’s coming or going. I’ll even be so kind as to say it must be the onset of Alzheimer’s.
Since when is a Liberal a term of insult? Oh wait this is the “fair and balanced” news service. We distort, you decide
It’s so amazing how so many people are posting negative comments about McCain in these blogs and yet he’s leading in almost every single national republican poll shows McCain out in front. It’s obvious what’s going on in these blogs. The far left posters pretending to be conservatives know that McCain is the only real Republican candidate with electibility in November.
Mac is back. Sorry libs.
Bubba McCain…
McCain made his accusation that Romney supported a timetable for exiting Iraq based on a quote from Romney, BUT he did not use the complete quote. The part he left off was Romney saying that he, if he were president, would veto ANY timetables. But then, I guess it all depends on what your definition of “is” is…
What morons, oops I am sorry mormons don’t realize is McCain is the only sane person who has a chance of winning against the strong anti-war sentiment going across the country.
The immigration bill was by bush not by him and the climate change bill was something that is needed….not all republicans live in the middle-ages or are hicks!…some of us have a education as well!

I think McCain made a big MISTAKE when he decided to LIE about Romney, and I hope that it shows tomarrow and into SUPER TUESDAY!
Romney is the Leader we need for the future!
and sad to say it, but I think we will see a new Third Party immurge after the Presidentail Race.
Go Romney in 08 and Beyond!
Romney is not a liberal…McCain is just throwing rocks. McCain has a big Dem/liberal carved in his brow.
McCain lies, “forgets” what side of an issue he is on, and can only name call because he has no substance.
Romney speaks facts.
Hopefully the good people of the US can see through McCain. He is NOT a conservative.
@The Brain
I’m not sure how its not flip-flopping to go from establishing a state-run healthcare program to railing against “a socialistic-style, government-run nation” regarding Obama. Perhaps saying “Mitt and Kerry wish you a great Pride weekend” at a Boston Gay Pride parade in 2002 then deciding homosexuality must be opposed in all its incarnations.
I’m not sure how conservatism came to put campaign finance reform and immigration ahead of abortion and universal healthcare. That’s evolution for you.
McCain is sounding more and more unreliable and scared about the fact that maybe the people of Florida are doing their homework and finding out that Romney is clearly better equiped to get the job done, along with having a better record, a more conservative and reliable record. Go do the homework and you will see it clearly, unless of course you listen to McCain’s lies. ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m voting for Romney. McCain’s attacks are convenient, but incorrect. Although I’d have liked to have voted for McCain in 2000, now I’m not as impressed. The New York Times’ endorsement of McCain should tell you all you need to know about who liberals would prefer.
Go Mitt!
McCain’s record shows that he is much more like John Kerry than Mitt. Florida, McCain is trying to fake you out with dishonest slanting of the facts. A vote for McCain is a vote for politics as usual. We need fresh blood in Washington. Vote for Mitt.
Senator McCain has turned his back on the republican party. He has voted with democrats on several occasions.
Mitt Romney has a conservative record and I believe he would fight for conservative values in Washington. Vote Mitt Romney
i dont like how negative it is getting, but I dont know what else you can do when someone comes out with a blatant lie like McCain did with the withdraw comment, it has gone down hill from there.
I to like how Romney has come forth with his changes that McCain has labeled as a flip flop. I am not convinced that McCains change in stance on illegal immagration and taxes is real, I have seen him change when it has political gain (for himself). His stance on the war has been straight, I’ll give him that (although he talked about milestone benchmarks a few months before he is complaining Romney did).
The news of McCain not supporting Aleto like judges, and his global warming bill truly shows how he will rule washington, he’ll be the democrats favorite president.
I wont vote for him if he gets the nod, he lost his ’straight talk’ honor this weekend and is showing what he showed in the senate with the immigration bill, blowing up in a rage when anyone on his side apposes him. He is much more harsh on his ‘fellow’ republicans than any democrats, we saw that during the Bush/Kerry run, McCain said he supported bush, but would not comment anything negative toward Kerry.
Here is hoping McCain goes away after tomorrow, do us proud Florida.
Around here we call Senator McCain, “Amnesty” McCain. I’m still wondering when his “Daddy” (or is that his pimp), Ted Kennedy will endorse him for President.
As the son of a Vietnam Veteran, I am very impressed with his ability to not only survive the cruelty he endured at the hands of his tomentors but also his ability to fight back the best that he could under those conditions. BUT, Senator McCain’s defeatist positions on immigration, the economy, and even foreign affairs leaves much to be desired. With all due respect, the Senator IS a liberal politician.
Recently after McCain won the South Carolina primary, a friend of mine who labels herself “a Tax and Spend Liberal Democrat” was heard to say if Hillary didn’t win the Democratic Nomination and McCain did win the Republician Nomination she would vote for McCain over Obama simply because McCain’s platform was more Democratic than Obama’s. She had a complete list of reasons that made me; a conservative Republican, understand why I voted for Romney. Her first reason was because Ted Kennedy holds a great deal of favor with McCain since they have sponsored so many bills together and appear to be close friends. Enough said….
You people @ Fox still will not give Ron Paul a chance will ya ?
