Christian Leader James Dobson Endorses Huckabee for GOP Nod
James Dobson, one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, backed Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid Thursday night, giving the former Arkansas governor a long-sought endorsement as the Republican field narrowed to a two-man race. In a statement first obtained by The Associated Press, Dobson reiterated his declaration on Super Tuesday that he could not in good conscience vote for John McCain, the front-runner, because of concerns over the Arizona senator’s conservative credentials.
Dobson said given the situation at that point, he was reluctant to choose between “two pro-family candidates whom I could support” — Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
But Dobson wrote that Romney’s announcement Thursday that he was suspending his campaign “changed the political landscape.”
“The remaining candidate for whom I could vote is Governor Huckabee,” Dobson said. “His unwavering positions on the social issues, notably the institution of marriage, the importance of faith and the sanctity of human life, resonate deeply with me and with many others … Obviously, the governor faces an uphill struggle, given the delegates already committed to Senator McCain. Nevertheless, I believe he is our best remaining choice for president of the United States.”
McCain has won more than 707 nominating delegates, more than half the 1,191 needed to win the nomination. Huckabee has 195.
Dobson called Huckabee on Thursday before issuing the endorsement, said Gary Schneeberger, a Dobson spokesman. Dobson’s statement said he would “support Governor Huckabee through the remaining primaries,” but it wasn’t clear whether that meant campaigning for him.
A Huckabee campaign spokeswoman said late Thursday he was unavailable for comment, but confirmed that he and Dobson had spoken.
Huckabee had long sought Dobson’s endorsement, believing he is the best fit to advance Dobson’s conservative, moral world view. Until now, Dobson had never endorsed a GOP presidential hopeful during the primary campaign.
Throughout what had been an unsettled GOP race, Dobson picked his spots to signal that some candidates simply didn’t meet his standards. He ruled out Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and McCain. At one point, Dobson said he’d consider voting for a minor-party candidate if faced with Giuliani as the nominee.
He took on McCain again this week as the Arizona senator widened his already large lead over his GOP opponents.
Dobson criticized McCain for his support of embryonic stem cell research, his opposition to a federal anti-gay marriage amendment and for his temper and use of foul language. He said he’d sit out the presidential election if McCain were the nominee.
Dobson is easily the biggest-name evangelical endorsement Huckabee has earned. Other movement leaders have shied from Huckabee either because of his lack of money, support for expanding the evangelical agenda to include the environment and poverty, as well economic and tax positions that fiscal conservatives have attacked.
John Green, a senior fellow with the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, said Dobson’s endorsement can help Huckabee in upcoming Southern states — Louisiana votes Saturday — but not change the belief that Huckabee’s support is confined to social conservatives.
“It is rather late in the game,” Green said. “But Dr. Dobson is well known for sticking to his guns. It doesn’t surprise me this late in the game he would make an announcement like this because it fits in well with what he’s been saying. He really doesn’t want a moderate Republican nominee, he wants a conservative.”
Dobson emphasizes that when he endorses candidates, he is doing so as a private citizen and not as a representative of Focus on the Family, a tax-exempt organization he founded. His endorsement of Huckabee was to be e-mailed to 110,000 people through Focus on the Family Action, a separate entity that is allowed to be more politically active, Schneeberger said.

McCain’s first wife …Carol …a model was disabled in an car accident. It left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches …NEEDLESS TO SAY , she got a bit fat. She refused to let her POW husband be notified for fear of what it might do to his mental health while being held prisoner.
A couple of years later …while pondering a carreer in politics the “STRAIGHT TALKER” met Cindy …25 and attractive and from a very wealthy , politically connected, Arizona family . “THE STRAIGHT TALKER” started his adulterous relationship with her while married to Carol. Married Cindy in 1980…ONE MONTH after dumping his crippled wife Carol.
THE “STRAIGHT TALKER” followed his young millionairess bride back to Arizona and introduced him to a publisher of the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Gazette. THE STRAIGHT TALKER made friends Quickly and used the power of the news paper to jump start McCains Career .
“THE STRAIGHT TALKER” kept a low profile in the Senate until he was plastered all over T.V. trying to “STRAIGHT TALK” himself as one of the …”KEATING 5″….five senators who were enmeshed in the scandal involving the collapsed Lincoln Savings and Loan.
McCain has cultivated a phony facade as a “STRAIGHT TALKING POLITICIAN UNSULLIED BY BIG MONEY INFLUENCE AND SPECIAL INTERSTS”. And manages to keep a straight face about it …(scary)…and manipulated the press into ignoring (or forgiving) FACTS THAT EXPOSE a disreputable character and a slewfoot to the truth.
Oct 17 1989-Arizona republic -…both in telephone conversations with reporters and live radio talk show , the republican Senator was far from calm.He was agitated and angry. And the way he dealt with unpleasant questions was to bully the questioners…The straight talker snapped and called the reporter a liar when asked about business ties between his wife Cindy and KEATING. “THAT’S THE SPOUSES INVOLVEMENT , YOU IDIOT”. Not content to BULLY, he had to BELITTLE the reporters… “It’s up to you to find out , KIDS”…. these were not juveniles or liars … they were reporters seeking the truth .
Oct.17 1989- condemned disclosures of his familiy’s ties to KEATING as irresponsible journalism on a radio talk show
The Pheonix Gazette Nov 13 1989- “…Reporters also discovered that the Senators wife and Father- in law 359,100. in one of Mr. Keatings projects in 1986.
Arizona Republic April 29 1990- …McCains involvement with Keating … “when reporters asked asked him questions about previously unknown ties to Keating an investment by his wife CINDY McCAIN in a KEATING SHOPPING CENTER and trips to Keating’s Bahamas home McCain went into a rage”.
Economist March 9 1991- “Mr McCain despite his claims of innocense , was the only one of the 5 who benefitted personaly … familiy holidays in the Bahamas….on Mr Keatings tab.
NEW REPUBLIC SEPT 1 1991 - Calling McCain part of the ” Senatorial Lincoln Brigade “…he new republic reported that Keating , while bankrupting his savings and loan , had channeled $ 1.4m to the campaigns or causes of the 5 senators…who in turn pressured the savings and loan regulators to back off our friend. ”
Regardi’s magazine April- May 1992 - ” Ultimately the fall of Lincoln Savings and Loan will cost the tax payers $2 BILLION . It lost $1M a day from the time Keating bought it in 1984 till the time it collapsed in 1989. And yet he continued to pay off the McCain as one of his assets.”
The Arizona Republic Aug 24 1994 - “Cindy McCain , the wife of U.S. Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona , admitted in a series if media interviews Monday that she became addicted to the pain killers percocet and vicodin. She said she used the drugs from 1989-1992and aknowledged that she had stolen some pills from the American Voluntary Medical team , a charitable organization of which she is president….at one point McCain 40 was ingesting 15-20 pills a day . The normal dosage is for seriously ill patients is 6 to 10 a day FOR A SHORT PERIOD.”
THE PHOENIX GAZETTE AUG 25 1994 - “Cindy McCain was investigated recently by the Drug Enforcement Administration for stealing and using Percocet and Vicodin , both narcotic pain killers from her aid organization….the county attourneys report provides a window to drug dealings within Cindy McCain’s non profit corporation…Gosinski also alleged that Cindy McCain abused her husbands office and diplomatic privileges by transporting illegal substances overseas. He also claimed that according to her lawyers , that Cindy McCain tried to prevent him from providing accurate information to the D.E.A.”
NO WONDER MCCAIN IS FOR AMNESTY .
Playboy July 1999 had an article about the theft and use of drugs commenting on the fact that each pill carries a penalty of 1 yr in prison and a monetary fine. SHE WAS ALLOWED TO ENTER A PRETRIAL DIVERSION PROGRAM AND ESCAPED WITH NO BLEMISH TO HER RECORD.. source: JAMES BOVARD , Prison Sentances of the Politically connected.

this will change your mind on huckabee
Mitt Romney’s decision to pull out only further illustrates what type of person Huckabee is…
Romney is more concerned about the country and the party than self, which Huckabee can NOT say. I hope that whatever McCain promised Huckabee is worth it to him in the end, just think, someday he can look back and be so proud of his role as a self-involved spoiler…what a proud moment that will be!
As a born-again Christian, I agree with Dr. Dobson that Mike Huckabee is my first choice as President. But, I must say, if McCain ends up being the Rep. nominee, I will be out on election day voting for him. I would rather have him in office that Clinton or Obama! Go Huckabee! I still think he can win it…if true conservatives do something! Stranger things have happened.
I was hoping Mitt would give his delegates to Huckabee. If he would there would be a possibility of McCain NOT being elected in the Primaries. I like Huck’s stance on Fair tax and social issues
Huckabee is a good man, no matter what the talking heads feed you people. They distort the truth to the point it becomes a lie. I was confident that most people would do the research and see the truth but apparently, I overestimated how smart people really are and underestimated how blindly they would follow the Hannity’s, Rush’s, Coulter’s, etc….First they championed Rudy and the people followed with high poll numbers, then it was Fred Thompson debuting in the high 20%, and finally there was Mitt and his millions. Didn’t matter to them that he only became a Conservative in 2006 at the ripe old age of 59. He was their man and the people followed. Now he, like the rest, are gone.
One example of this distortion is this story about Dumond but the media refuses to clear it up and they enjoy watching it fester. A couple important factors to keep in mind about this story. No one complained about the Parole Board releasing Dumond until Huckabee ran for re-election as Governor in 2002. Then only 1 Parole Board member said he was pressured by Huckabee to release Dumond and that was a couple years after he was not reappointed to a cushy $75,000 job on the Parole Board. That entire Parole Board that released Dumond was appointed by either Clinton or Tucker who were both Democrats. If you think Huckabee had any influence over Democrats when he first took office then you obviously don’t know about them nailing his office door shut the first month he was in office. My point is the Parole Board release Dumond after Tucker commuted his sentence. The only official action taken by Huckabee in this case was to deny his clemency 4 times.
There is a video on YouTube of an interview Huckabee did on Hannity & Colmes which addresses this issue. Huckabee talked about how he felt bad for the family of those effected and that he took responsibility for the situation because it took place while he was Governor but that he had no direct contact with the process which led to Dumond’s release. Those are facts. The people of Arkansas understood this and re-elected him as Governor. They also just recently gave him the highest margin of victory by states voting for their home candidate, more than McCain or Romney’s home states and no one knows this story better than the people of Arkansas.
Another example of the media half-truths and bias which misguides people to the point of becoming a lie is the whole ethics question. Sure there were something like 14 ethics violations filed against Huckabee during his term as Governor. What they fail to tell you is who filed those claims and what the end result was. Those claims were filed by Democrats and Newspaper people who had a grudge to settle with Huckabee. All of those charges were dismissed except for one. That one charge that stuck was later over-turned on appeal. That is a net result of 0 ethics violations but how many of you actually know that part of the story?
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
If Huckabee had half the class that Romney has, he, too would bow out. He has no chance of winning against The ‘Hilabeast’ or ‘O bad man’. The truth is, he is a self-servicing preacher who is caught up in a hunger for power to somehow say, ‘See, my religion pervails because of me’. I don’t like McCain, but I do care about a Republican win in November. It is sooo important. The possiblity of appointing Supreme Court Judges alone is a good reason to do what needs to be done to secure the nomination for McCain and a chance for the White House. The second reason is our national security. If anyone listened to Romney’s speech…he is right on when it comes to keeping this country as the number one power. We cannot be backing out of the middle east …nor can we afford not to build up our military base. As we see, Iraq is becoming a bigger threat daily. We need to be ready. I fear that Obama would make military cuts and risk our security as well as pull out of important areas in the world. Idealism does not keep the country secure. You have to prepare yourself for whatever may come your way and have that preparation as a tool for negotiating. Please wake up…We don’t have to like McCain to support him…we need him….set pride aside for the sake of the country and it’s future. (Did you hear that Huckabee????)
