Obama’s Record Slim on Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Border

WASHINGTON — Based on his Senate history, Barack Obama as president would likely push to expand human rights and reduce poverty abroad using cooperation rather than confrontation. If foreign events permit.

Aside from his vigorous opposition to the Iraq war, Obama spent more of his time on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on speeches and inspirational trips than on investigations and aggressive oversight. He was a junior senator with an agreeable manner who was just beginning to cut his teeth on foreign policy issues when he decided to run for president.

Since he took office in 2005, much of Obama’s work attracted little, if any, attention because of the nation’s focus on the Iraq war. Obama pushed through legislation that condemned violence by the Zimbabwe government, for example. He helped raise awareness about Darfur and called on the administration to do more to reduce global poverty.

When Obama took charge of the European affairs subcommittee in early 2007, he didn’t seize the opportunity to scrutinize the Bush administration. With his campaign in full swing, the busy senator did not lead a single policy hearing on any of the hot topics in the panel’s jurisdiction: missile defense, counterterrorism and concern over the waning commitment of European countries to NATO.

Obama’s aides say it’s not unusual for a Senate subcommittee to hold few hearings, with the majority of work being done by the full committee. They also defend Obama’s work on the committee as extremely successful.

im currently lookin at Mr. Obama’s views and will decide from there if he would be a good president or not. For those that judge a man on just his name alone or his step fathers beliefs, race, or even in Hillary’s case gender. I urge you to open what seems to be a simply closed minded ideal of which you possess at the moment, and delve deep inside yourself to bring forth enlighten ways of thought not to judge a man by his name, but merely by his character(and if you’re a christian then you should live by the code who ever is without sin cast the first stone or you are truely not what you claim yourself to be, and those that arent familiar with this statement its easy to find just open a bible and read the red words maybe you’ll find a little bit of truth about yourself)… with this the old saying becomes true never judge a book by its cover… open your ears and eyes, listen and see what all of those that are in the presidential race have to offer. Dont just pick a cannidate because of his/her side or religion but on what he or she has instore for the future of our country. For it is every woman, man, and child that will have to endure the next presidential reign. Thats is all i have to say on this matter, i leave you with a bit of advise read the information that we americans are spoiled with and take the responsiblity bestowed to us by those who have fought and died for our ways of life, sift through the real and the slander, and lastly choose wisely.. United we stand for its the only way we can. thank you

It pretty unbeleivable the way change scares people. Here we have a man in Obama, who can really change the whole worlds negative perception of America, stand up for more of his citizens than simply the rich and actually achieve something. And what do we get on Fox forums? Just more hate and scare mongering. If America is to wake up, it should wake up to change.
