McCain Scrambles to Control Backers

Though John McCain vowed that attacks on Barack Obama at his campaign events “will never happen again,” the Republican presidential candidate says he’s concerned he may be unable to control all of his supporters - especially third party groups.

At a rally in Cincinnati Tuesday, McCain denounced the remarks of local radio talk show host Bill Cunningham, who introduced the candidate with several attacks on Obama, including suggesting he is a “hack” who would sit down for tea with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hezbollah terror leaders.

Cunningham also called Obama by his full name, Barack Hussein Obama, during the on-stage introduction. McCain immediately denounced the remarks and promised a civil debate should Obama become the Democratic presidential nominee.

But speaking to reporters aboard his campaign tour bus late Tuesday, McCain acknowledged that conservative independent groups pursuing a similar line to Cunningham’s could be impossible to control.

“I think you have to worry about that, particularly the 527s,” McCain said, referring to the independent advocacy groups that are not subject to contributor limits.

“We’re aware of many of the things that 527s have done … where unlimited amounts of money can pour into negative campaigns such as we saw against John Kerry and his combat record, as we saw against (former Georgia Sen.) Max Cleland … they’re really very not accountable to anyone. At least I have to say ‘I’m John McCain and I approve this message.’”

Some critics blame his signature campaign finance reform legislation, co-sponsored with Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold, for the explosion of uncontrolled 527 groups. But, McCain said the law is not the problem and argued that 527 groups were able to sprout up as a result of loophole in a 1974 campaign finance law.

McCain said he would do his best to prevent dirty politicking by his campaign and surrogates.

“The moral of the story is we just have to have stronger control of our campaign. … There is no excuse for what happened today,” he said, adding that his campaign has plans to expand its bare bones staff.

Cunningham says he was told by party officials to give the audience red meat to warm up the crowd that came to see McCain. He says he did and the crowd loved it, but McCain then threw him under the bus. Cunningham says McCain has now lost his support.

“I’m gonna follow the lead of Ann Coulter. I’ve had it with John McCain,” Cunningham told FOX News’ “Hannity & Colmes.”

“I’m going to endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton for president because she would do a better job in the Oval Office, I think, than the liberal John McCain. I’m done with him.”

Cunningham said McCain “embarrassed himself,” and then made up a name of his own for the Arizona senator, “John Juan Pablo McCain,” an apparent reference to McCain’s sponsorship of immigration reform legislation. He added that McCain should be “repudiating Democrats and leaving conservatives alone.”

Meanwhile, as McCain preaches civility, his own campaign put out a call to Obama’s camp to call off Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, who has been attacking McCain for choosing to forgo public campaign financing.

“Howard Dean and the Democratic National Committee leadership have launched a personal and negative assault on Senator McCain’s character. Howard Dean himself questioned Senator McCain’s integrity, and a DNC official called McCain a liar,” said Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker.

“We agree with the Obama campaign’s statement today that this debate should be respectful and focused on issues, and it would be encouraging to see Senator Obama denounce the character attacks coming from the leadership of his party.”

We desperately need Republicans to come on board for Mike Huckabee before it is too late. John McCain can not carry the election. He compromises on all issues in order to appease people. Personally I see nothing wrong in calling Obama by his middle name or by calling into question his credentials. Exactly what does he stand for? Where does he come from? Why do the crowds swoon; why do they hoot and hollar over his simply blowing his nose? The American people are not SHEEP who can not think for themselves. Actually many of us recognize an authentic VOICE calling to us to follow and it is NOT Obama.

Mike Huckabee was an awesome governor; he has a disciplined, moral lifestyle; he has an intelligent, gracious wife; he has a plan for tax reform; he wants a STRONG military; he loves Israel and will continue to be her friend and ally; he will secure the borders; he will NOT compromise on life issues. Mike Huckabee is the man for the hour. America needs him even if she is too lulled asleep to know it!!!

McCain’s true colors are showing. He is not conservative and does not have what it takes to stand up against the media or the liberal left.
If there is nothing wrong with Barack Hussein Obama then why all of the uproar over calling him by his full ISLAMIC name? Trying to hide something Obama? If you hadn’t been wearing your Islamic head covering in the first place - there would be no pictures and a lot fewer doubts about whether you are an Islamic puppet in disguise.

Enough, enough! We don’t need to hear any more about McCain/Obama/Clinton. We want to hear about a conservative Republican. Get it FOX?

McCain is a big wuss; he might not sit down with Mahmoud, but he’d love to sit down with Ted Kennedy and discuss how the republicans can jump ship of their conservative values to apease the Socialist Democratic party. Bill Cunningham was correct to say that Barack Hussein Obama Bin Laden would love to meet with his friend and brother in the Muslim faith, Mahmoud Ahmadinejihad. If Hillary wasn’t the Anti-Christ, I’d vote for her. I think I’m going to write in Bill Cunningham for President.

As a conservative Republican for 40 years, I resent Senator McCain’s continual assult on “The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth”. This group told the truth and nothing they said has been proven to be false. I am very grateful to John O’Niel and his supporters for what he has done for Vietnam veterans. I am also very dissapointed on how John McCain and his friend, John Kerry, treated POW/MIA families in the 90’s. His temper tantrums and verbal attacks on some of these familes was despicable.

No, for the first time since 1964, my personal conservative values will not permit me to vote in the presidential election of 2008.

I guess Bill Cunningham will now join Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh in spitting in the faces of the millions of people who have been supporting and campaigning for Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, by throwing his support behind one of the Democrats. These so-called conservative radio talk show hosts are becoming a disgrace.

My how the tables have turned. People like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and Mark Levin are out of touch with Conservative voters and continue to use drive-by media tactics on Republicans.

They ignore the candidates in the race that they have not personally supported, they laugh about them, mock them, call them petty, childish names, they outright lie about them, and figure that if they keep lying maybe the lies will eventually be believed.

Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter are their earlier victims. Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are their current targets. Does anyone who has done their own research really believe that Mike Huckabee is a Liberal? Do they still believe that he is only trying to be John McCain’s vice president? Even now, Mike Huckabee is looking at one on one debates with John McCain!

Comment by Adriana

OH NO! He called him by his middle name!!!! OMG!!!!!!

I never understood what is wrong with that. He should be proud of his heritage, and not trying to hide it. That scares me more than the name. I am pround of mine , but I also love my country and contribute positively to it. It is possible.

Control is an interesting word coming from McCain’s camp

Cincy McCain is doing controlled substance abuse

A man living with an addict is out of control
Come on, how can we even consider Cindy McCain for the job of first lady
She can’t even qualify for a $9.00 an hour factory job
Why? Because she can’t pass a urine screen

All this PC BS has created a society of thin-skinned whiners.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t McCain a leader in the campaign finance reform effort? What it amounts to is suppression of the First Amendment.

His chickens are coming home to roost/crap on him.

Well what do you expect Senator McCane? Cunningham gave the intro that paralleled McCanes life style as the maverick of the Republican party. His intro was reflective of his “shoot them and ask questions later when they oppose me”.
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks and everybody understands who McCane is. Thats why Ann Coulter would rather vote Clinton. I gag at that thought but McCane just lacks the right stuff to be President. He is literally being shoved down our throats.
It will take an uprising to remove McCane the darling of the GOP. He has more dirt on everybody then Hugh Hefner. Come on, him and Nader should run on the same ticket, thats how rediculous his potential nomination is.
When Romney removed himself from the race people wanted to say what a classy thing for Mitt to do. Well there are those that say Mitt was self serving to opt for a VP job on the McCane express. I personally give Romney the benefit of doubt and prefer to believe the class act story. Probably because I like Romney.

However if McCane removed himself from the race there would be no doubt that it was a class thing to do beyond imagination…..for the party and America. I hold out the party’s and America’s best hope is centered in this man Gov. Huckabee. I would giggle with glee to see a Huckabee/Romney ticket. So would the majority of Republicans — now those two would embody change and build the new GOP instead of keeping the OLD GOP on a respirator like is our present position. Listen this kind of change is what America needs desperately. The media would wet themselves and the evening news would be all about them instead of Clinton and Obama.

While I believe that Mr. Cunningham’s comment were in poor taste, we have to beware of censorship.

In a true democracy people criticize their leaders and protest when they disagree. I am afraid of having a president who cannot be criticized. When people are afraid to criticize their leaders you begin to move to a dictatorship.

Please Republicans in Ohio, vote for Hillary on March 4th. Barack himself said last night that once you get a bus in a ditch, you only have so many choices.

At this point those of us in Texas and Ohio are the only ones who have a chance to stop the bus from going in the ditch.

Vote Hillary on March 4th; McCain in November

Do you promise to print this one?

I am getting a complex………my comments are never printed.

Maybe it’s because I can’t stand McCain, Hillary or Hussein.

I only hope the Republican delegates at the national convention wake up and pick a new candidate to represent us. McCain should be a registered democrat. I believe if he wins he would pick BHusseinO as his running mate.

Please pray for our country ……………we have no leader who is worthy at the moment to be our new President. I think we were lucky to have President George W. Bush for 7 1/4 years!

I appreciate McCain attempting to be professional and civil, but sometimes, you have to fight fire with fire!! Calling Barack by his full name is in no way attacking him, it is his name, is it not?? It just so happens to be middle eastern……….hmmmmmmmmmmm perhaps because his father was a radical muslim?? Has America thought about that??

I support McCain 100%. At least he stands for personal responsibility unlike Billary and the Muslim. He stands for some of conservative views, and that I will take over liberal leadership any day!!!!

McCAIN 2008!!!

I applaud what Bill Cunningham said yesterday about Senator Obamah. It is about time someone had the guts to say what a lot of Americans think and are afraid to say.
I am sick of seeing the Kennedy’s face all up in Obamahs campaign. Why in the world doesn’t someone speak up about the scandal with the Kennedy brothers and Marilyn Monroe and other woman brought to the white house while JFK was president.Everyone is quick to remember Clinton and Monica but not a word about JFK and Monroe. All you hear is what a great president he was.Obamah is quick to quote JFK and loves to be compared to him,I say let more people say what Bill Cunningham said and let the truth come out.Let everyone remember the Kennedy’s and their affairs and how Jackie stayed with her man.Lay off Hillary, she has more guts and courage than any man she will come up against.

I am so sick of these legend-in-their-own-minds conservative political commentators. Enough already with over the top verbal attacks! Up to this election, I actually enjoyed listening to many of these people–not the ones who were always pit bulls on attack–but now it seems they’ve all become pit bulls on attack. It is disgusting to have to live with that kind of aggressive vitriol - and against our own side? These people have lost all grip on the real world.

Sen. McCain does not represent my values and I will not vote for him. I am tired of hearing that the race is over. It is not over until someone has 1191 pledged delegates. If we played football the way we are expected to play this primary game, the New England Patriots would have won the Super Bowl. Sorry New York Giants, you are too far hehind. For the good of the fans, please get off the field. Doesn’t that sound absurd? If the GOP is too weak to handle primary elections, we don’t stand a chance against the Dems in November. Our only hope to defeat the Democrats in the general election is to have a true conservative GOP nominee. That means we must have a brokered convention. Some of our best Presidents have gotten the nomination from a brokered convention. Abraham Lincoln received the nomination through a brokered convenion. I live in Nebraska and I want a choice in the primary process. I appreciate Gov. Huckabee’s willingness to remain in the race, despite constant calls for him to withdraw from the race. I believe it would behoove the GOP for the primaries to continue.

Conservatives are outraged over McCain apology, His strides to get conservatives on board with his campaign have taken a serious hit, We feel that his concern over liberals view of the conservative position mean nothing to him, but the liberal view is important, We are disgusted by his apology, we found nothing wrong with the speech given by Cunningham and this further shows how McCain is against conservatives!

I don’t see any difference in Bill Cunningham’s referencing a middle name for Sen. Obama than all of the other pundits referring to Msr Clinton as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. I think this just highlights the soft glove approach that Sen McCain is trying to convey. This approach is not what the Republican party needs. The Dems do not use that approach with Republicans, they continue to use the STRONG ARM tatics. They do not try to get along with Republican. Sen. McCain this is why we do not think that you are a Conservative. You pander to the left and fight against the right.

“Cuttingham” is good at nothing but cutting people down (Note: I cut him down because he has publically made a fool of himself and conservatives should take a stand against this kind of behavior). He makes me want to forsake anything that is conservative. A true conservative would know how and when to keep his mouth shut and that includes not throwing stones at your enemies. I don’t agree with everything that Obama says, but should we not be attacking his stands and not his person? I mean, Obama doesn’t even know that Cunningham exists and here he is bad mouthing him and implying that he is a terrorist! Obama is very intelligent and very kind. Cunningham could stand to learn a few things from him on character.

Comment by Carol in MO

If McCain would just get on to a debate of substantive issues with Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, he wouldn’t have to worry so much about only getting negative media coverage (Vicki Iseman, Abramoff, campaign funding, negative results of McCain-Feingold and 527 proliferation, and talk radio).

Does he still have the courage that saw him Vietnam, or is he gonna just stay on his heels and hope he doesn’t fall down completely before November?

We’ll see, won’t we.

This is a tempest in a teapot. The man’s name is BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA. Why should ANYONE be concerned if ANYONE uses it — ANYWHERE, ANYTIME?!? If Mr. Obama doesn’t like the name, then let him change it. If Mr. McCain doesn’t like someone using it — well, he should just SHUT UP but certainly QUIT APOLOGIZING for someone else using it. IT’S NOT HIS NAME OR HIS PROBLEM!

Again, I submit: the man’s name is BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA. And I don’t want to hear ANYBODY apologizing for using it.

Comment by Robert Bunch

McCain should stop trying to tell his supporters what to say, when they are voicing the thoughts of the majority of his hopeful conservative supporters! To win against these people, the kid gloves are going to have to be taken off and point out the truth to the American people!

McCain’s attempts to muzzle his most “outspoken” supporters, the very ones he needs to rally the Republican and Conservative elements who oppose him, will be his undoing. As the 2008 election evolves, regardless of whether Barry Obama or Hilla the Hun is the democRat standard bearer, John SIDNEY McCain will be his own worst enemy!!!!!

Comment by Andrew

First of all, I was at the McCain rally yesterday. Bill Cunningham to his defense didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. It may not have been nice to bring up, but this is politics. He was warming up a conservative crowd. He didn’t say anything vulgar. And He used Barrack Obama’s middle name? If that’s his name then that’s not out of line. If people are so afraid of the name Hussein, then they’re the bigots, not Bill Cunningham.

Comment by Wayne

I have always been a Republican, but I can’t vote for McCain after he did what he did to Bill Cunningham yesterday. Somebody needs to call these people out for who they are. The news media is favoring Barack Hussein Obama and it is plain for everyone to see. I too will join Ann and Bill and give my support to Senator Clinton.

Comment by Todd

What a sniveleing little worm Cunningham is. He has no class. If someone disagrees with him that changes the whole outlook he has on them and life? He was all for McCain until McCain said how he felt about what Cunningham said, then all of a sudden he supooorts Clinton. Cunningham obviously has no backbone, no principles, and stands for nothing. If it were about the issues he would still support McCain, but it’s not. For him it’s obviously all about Mr. Cunningham.

I bet Clinton loves that Cunningham is endorsing her even though he was bashing her just hours before. Maybe there is something Cunningham can learn from Clinton. He SHOULD endorse her. Two peas in a pod those two. Me me me me ME!

McCain can only do himself a service by continuing to keep the campaign about civility and respect. The American electorate has become completely disgusted with the negative rhetoric from both extremes - left and right. Simply witness the crowd reaction to Hillary Clinton’s “change you can Xerox” line. If McCain and (presumably) Obama can keep the campaign on the issues then Americans will have the opportunity to vote for the person they best feel can do the most for the country as opposed to the one with the least “baggage.”

Comment by William P

One of the reasons people like McCain is that he refuses to take cheap shots. This is why the Times was shouted down after the filth they peddled about the Senator. People truly respect him. I have also heard Mr. Cunningham’s constant references to Barack “Hussein” Obama. It’s fun to hear one or twice, but it’s getting a bit stale. The fact is that Mr. Obama is an appealing individual and no one is going to beat him with low rent tactics, witness the Clinton debacle. Senator Obama also lacks the political slime that other Democrats bring to the table and Americans are generally glad to see African Americans doing well. Also we face another 4 years of grid lock if the Republicans or Democrats win with mud slinging. This is so because this election is going to be very close. One or two states will decide things. Remember Flordia 2000 and Ohio 2004. Any perception that one side improperly tipped the scales and it spells disaster again with one party running things with razor thin margins. Rest assured nothing will get done under those circumstances.

Comment by James

Mcain, you idiot! The Repulican party needs all the support we can get and you are pushing away supporters. So what if Cunningham chose to call him by his full name. I would call him Hussein too, and aggree with half of the remarks he made!

Shame onto those who insult Obama because of his name.

Names?

Do you forget there is also a ROD that will HArM the country (RODHAM)?

Oh… and this great country is currently being ruled not by flowers, but by a walking bush?!! (Walker Bush).

Don’t insult people because of their names or race or gender.

Why do you keep referring to Obama as black? He is only half black, his mother is a white Caucasian blonde.

This McCain supporter just showed how Kind, Klever, and Karing (KKK) he is.

The Grand Old Phonies (GOP) should stop posing as Christians because they are not. They wear religion on their sleeves, just like the Pharisees in the bible.

They claim to be social conservatives, but….
- $250 million bridge to no where (Ted Stevens, AK)
-Gay sex in public rest rooms (Larry Craig, ID)
-Gay sex with children (Mark Foley, FL)
-Taking prostitutes, with escort services (Dave Vitter, LA)
I can go no…. and on… and on

-They claim to be against abortion, but when Giuliani (who is pro-Choice) was leading the polls, their Christian leaders like Pat Robertson and the others endorsed him, and said, abortion is not a major issue, but the treat America is facing is islamic terrorism.

-They claim they are against Amnesty. But now since McCain wrote the amnesty bill, immigration is no longer important, it is who will make sure America’s occupation of Iraq continues as long as possible.

I am a Christian conservative, and I will NEVER vote for the GOP.

It is a shame that many Christians have been DECEIVED to believe the GOP runs on Christian values and that they never compromise.

Obama is a little liberal than my ideal candidate.
But I will rather support someone who tells the truth, and speaks of unity and HOPE,
than McCain, who is only good at preaching FEAR, and telling Americans-their security only comes from a big military-fighting al Qaeda (with borrowed money from China)

OBAMA’08
…YES WE CAN, stop the politics of fear.

I applaud McCain for not jumping on the trash bandwagon. Remarks like Cunningham made are irrelevant to the issues to the American public and the problems our citizens face today and only proves he promotes devisiveness in the American public. I am still personally undecided and registered independant, which means I have no blind party affiliation but these kind of attacks are reprehensible. I close with two old and true statements: ” A house divided cannot stand” and ” to Divide is to conquer”. So to you Cunningham and Dean *** Stop giving Comfort and aid to our enemies both foreign and domestic!!!!

So using Barack Hussein Obama’s full name is derogatory? McCain is once again attacking conservatives showing his true colors. He will not and cannot win in November. It’s looking more an more like a landslide for Barack Hussein Obama. I can’t believe the moderate/libs in the Republican party are so blind and have caused so many so-called conservatives to sell their souls and back this guy. As a conservative, how are you going to feel backing the media supported Senator from AZ when he still loses the general election?

Comment by Alan Jackman

Now, let me see if I have this correct. Cunningham is now backing Clinton because he didn’t like what McCain had to say about his remarks. Makes sense to me. Let’s go for one of the most liberal Democrats in the country because we are pissed. That’s as ridiculous as voting for Obama because he’s cute.

I think McCain is showing that civil behavior can still exist in our Presidential campaigns. I find Cunningham’s remarks and response to McCain’s deployable and demonstrates a complete lack of intelligence.

A long time Republican-conservative! I was more than disappointed in McCain’s response to the intro comments. Where was there any misinformation? His name is his name. He is a rank amateur regarding world issues. I am sorry to say that I am not surprised and have become a undecided voter again.

Bill Cunningham is a well known racist here in southern Ohio. He is also a scared little punk who is afraid to debate or allow anyone to challenge his racist beliefs. He is the poster child for the saying “Think education is expensive? Try ignorance.” Heck, he doesn’t even know who his father is.

Comment by Michael Oedy

Mr. Cunningham just said that since John McCain took the higher road of integrity, he’s not gonna support him anymore….what a dolt! People like Cunningham wrap themselves in the loose blanket of censorship that this country provides and never hold themselves accountable for their own actions. Cunningham is an embarassment to the Republican party. He just sodidified my vote for McCain. So far I think Mcain and Obama are running two of the cleanest campaign’s in recent memory. It is so fun to watch Hillary being killed with kindness. Keep it up guys and America will have its first real choice since I’ve been voting (20 years).

I’m dissapointed in Mr. McCain’s responce. I’m fed up with liberal Republicans but I’ll still vote for McCain before any Democrat. Just curious…why does McCain feel it necessary to apologize for Cunningham using Obama’s full name…the name the man would use at his swearing in ceremony if he is to be elected President? Cunningham says “Hillary Rodham Clinton” (her full name), but there is no apology for that. The man’s middle name is Hussein. It’s not a nickname given to him by some slanderous person. It is his given name & God help us if that name becomes part of our Presidential history.

Comment by LINDA STEPHENS

I’m not sure John McCain has the guts to be president if he has to apologize for Obama being called by his full name. Maybe he would feel better if we start referring to him as John Sidney McCain. Fair and balanced.

John when was it a bad thing to call someone by there full name? Your political correctness baffles me. Bill Cunningham is not a third party supporter he is a conservative. Oh I get it there is the Liberal pinkos , Rebulicans and the third party would be the conservatives. Now let me see where does little John belong let me take a guess Liberal pinkos. Juan McCain is unelectable. Demand a debate between the two viable republicans still running so we don’t lose any more republicans to the democratic ticket. The party is shrinking. A vote for Juan McCain is a wasted vote and ensure a Democrat in the whitehouse come november.

If Cunningham think she needs a “Bill” to make embarrassing and injudicious stump speeches for her, I’m afraid that position has already been filled (and fortunately for her he’s actually adopted some scruples). And, since he’s so fond of those clever little nick names, he should try this one on for size: “Bill the Hill Shill”.

Comment by Susan Grant

I think McCain is getting senile and it shows when he goes on national television to ‘apologize’ for a speaker calling Barack Obama by his given name and thinks that is slanderous. McCain is turning into a joke for the Republicans and they will surely rue the day they decided he was their ‘man for the White House’. It proves he has no courage to fight the good fight but will continualy apologize for the rest of this campaign. What a panty-waist! We need a REAL HERO and not one made of plaster of Paris. I guess a true liberal never changes their stripes and McCAin has proven ONCE AGAIN that HE IS A REAL LIBERAL. God, help us all. We need a miracle in November and it ain’t John McCain.

What Cunningham did is what always happens at a rally, it was his job to get the crowd going. If Sen. McCain had just come out and did his speech, then this would never had made the news. He invites attacks from the the most right wing when he does this. I don’t like anyone running for the White House and worry about the next 4-yrs. We basically have 3-Democrats running. I think Sen. McCain gives in too often to the left, instead of standing his convservative ground.

This is hilarious!!! At my caucus, the Republicans made jokes about the Democrats…they even joked about how Clinton AND Obama…it was funny!! It always gets the crowd excited… Cunningham did no different than what I witnessed by reps of my own state. I didn’t think it offensive he used Barack Hussein Obama’s middle name…It is his name. I call my daughter by middle name when I’m upset & addressing her by FULL name!! Good Night! I thought it was all funny myself!!

McCain’s lies are going to catch up with him. He lies & lies & lies…the rules are for everyone else but not him…he sure is a MAVERICK. He has NOT tried to reach out to TRUE conservatives….but he’s still reaching out to the liberals. I think we continue to see where his loyalty is & it is NOT the Republican Party.

It’s funny how his McCain-Feingold Finance is now causing him trouble. He’s trying to get around the system that he made. I think it’s funny that he accepted money from George Soros for that bill & geuss who’s funding all the attack/smear ads? George Soros. By him trampling our free speech rights…he’s now gonna have to deal w/ those consequences.

He said he has NEVER had an earmark…you know he’s sooo big on pork barrel. Well, he should at least be honest & say that he’s had FEW…cause it was still a lie. He has had TWO very expensive earmarks. Lie.

Keep looking…the lies keep coming…..

The truth will come out but I can ONLY hope that Huckabee takes this to convention & SAVES the Republican Party from this LIBERAL, LIAR, & MEAN man….

Actions like this prove John McCain is an honorable and decent person. If I were voting for just the individual, McCain would certainly get my vote. Assuming Obama gets the dem nomination, I’m am going to have tough choice to make in November. If Hillary however get the nom, then McCain will most definitely get my vote.

I’m a registered Republican, but McCain is not a conservative, and I can’t see me giving him my vote. This latest move to dump on Bill Cunningham just reinforces my feelings that McCain will rollover and let the liberals walk all over him. What a wasted election this will be for conservatives…..

McCain has to “control” us? That’s another reason why he should not be the Republican nominee. If you’re trying to get your base fired up for a successful run, doing something like this to Cunningham is just like pouring water on that said base. McCain should be happy Obama looks to win on the Democratic side because I don’t think he would withstand the way the Clintons campaign. I don’t think McCain has a chance of winning because of the way he’s conducting himself, but maybe he’ll wake up and learn some things about all the legislation he’s worked on in the past now that those 527’s are after him.

I HAVE JOINED THE FINE RANKS OF COULTER AND CUNNINGHAM. I AM FINISHED WITH JOHN MCCAIN AND PLAN TO VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON IN THE OHIO DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.

VOCIFEROUS THOUGH HE MAY BE, BILL CUNNINGHAM IS A GREAT AMERICAN AND AN ETERNALLY STAUNCH DEFENDER OF THE CONSERVATIVE CAUSE. HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH AND NEVER RETREATS UNDER PRESSURE. MR. CUNNINGHAM’S LIFE IS REPLEAT WITH GOOD WORKS, FAITH, FIDELITY AND COURAGE. HE IS LOVED AND RESPECTED HERE IN CINCINNATI.

JOHN MCCAIN’S DENOUNCEMENT OF MR. CUNNINGHAM AND LACK OF GRACE IN ACCEPTING MR. CUNNINGHAM’S SUPPORT IS UNEXCUSABLE. MCCAIN HAS FAILED TO SHOW THE CIVILITY HE HAS BEEN TOUTING. MY LONG HELD MISGIVINGS ABOUT MCCAIN ARE NO LONGER TOLERABLE.

To all those Huckabee fans out there. Huckleberry cannot win in an election. I don’t care if Jesus himself told you to vote for Huckabee; he’s not gonna make it. Give it up!

It is obvious that McCain like his record is “Reach Across the Isle” for the Liberals, and forget about the people he wants votes from. The issue is Obama’s name? Is it something he is ashamed of? How can we as voters feel any certainty about voting for any candidate, who will not disclose what his stances are on real issues facing our nation? So as a conservative and lifelong republican, I declare myself a supporter of Hill, the real interesting thing for me is my Mother is a lifelong Democrat who is supporting McCain?

It’s pretty bad when you lose your leadership staff AT your rally.

John McCain proved himself worthy of being a preident of United States. It is so refreshing to see somebody choosing the high road and not the smear tactics. As an Independent and almost enchanted by Obamas charisma, I have made up my mind. John McCain!

Juan McCain is setting up another exciting Bob Dole campaign. Electile Dysfunction.
Hey, John - you gotta’ wanna’ win to win.

McCain says what McCain says. Cunningham says what Cunningham says. I say what I say. Where is he supposed to be getting this “muzzle?”

Comment by Kay

Why do Republican candidates always feel the need to apologize? Have some backbone for crying out loud. It is not McCain’s job to control what others say. Besides are we not allowed to talk bad about Obama and why not? Let me guess because of the color of his skin.

This man Cunningham is scarey. John McCain did the right thing in what he said about this guys comments. I’m beginning to look at John McCain in a different light. Some people you have to distant yourself from…Cunningham is one of those.

Comment to little Billy Cunningham,

Barach Hussein Obama. Yes, that’s the man’s name, GET OVER IT, or should I say GET USED TO IT. You’re going to hear it a whole lot more over the next 4-8 Years.

Comment by Vince

Cunningham is being a cry-baby. People may agree with his views about Obama but you can’t just say what you want at a rally for the presidency and not expect backlash. I for one agree with him that Obama would be too weak and too friendly when it comes to our enemies. But, McCain is trying to run a somewhat clean campaign. Now Cunningham wants to throw his support elsewhere because of McCain’s reaction. Maybe he should try some of that “being responsible for your words and actions thing” they are always throwing at the Libs. History shows that Libs usually won’t so the other side should at the least try.
