CAMPAIGN WIRE: Obama Says He Won’t Be Clinton’s VP
(6:40 p.m. ET)
Responding to speculation about a joint ticket, Barack Obama says he will not play second fiddle to Hillary Clinton.
Obama told KTVQ in Billings, Mont., Friday: “You won’t see me as a vice presidential candidate.”
“I’m running for president,” he told the television station. “We have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton, and have a higher popular vote, and I think we can maintain our delegate count — but you know, what I’m really focused on right now, because all that stuff is premature, is winning this nomination and changing the country.”
Clinton herself has kept talk of a joint ticket alive, saying it’s a possibility.
Bill Clinton on Saturday (see below) even said the two Democrats would be an “unstoppable force” if they teamed up.
Actress in Clinton 3 a.m. Ad Is Obama Backer
(3:18 p.m. ET)
One of the sleeping children pictured in Hillary Clinton’s controversial “3 a.m.” ad has come out as a Barack Obama supporter.
Washington state resident Casey Knowles, 17, told KING5.com in Seattle that the Clinton ad used stock footage of her from eight years ago when she worked as a TV extra. And her family was shocked when they saw the ad for the first time Thursday.
“It’s really sort of ironic that my image would be used to advocate for Hillary when I myself do not,” Knowles told KING5.com.
Knowles said she is an Obama supporter who’s campaigned for him and even attended one of his rallies.
The Clinton ad showed several images of sleeping children, and then asked viewers who they wanted “answering the phone” in a crisis. The ad was widely credited with boosting her performance in the Texas primary.
The family does not own the footage, but Knowles said jokingly that she hopes Obama will get together with her to make a counter ad.

Bill Clinton Says Joint Ticket is ‘Unstoppable Force’
(12:44 p.m. ET)
Bill Clinton said Saturday in Mississippi that a joint ticket between his wife and Barack Obama would be an “unstoppable force.”
The former president is the latest Hillary Clinton backer to stoke speculation about the two rivals joining forces once the dust settles on their heated primary race.
“I know that she has always been open to it, because she believes that if you can unite the energy and the new people that he’s brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small-town and rural America that she’s carried overwhelmingly — if you had those two things together, she thinks it’d be hard to beat,” Clinton said at a town hall meeting in Pass Christian, Miss.
“But you look at most of these places — he would win the urban areas and the upscale voters, and she wins the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president. If you put those two things together, you’d have an almost unstoppable force,” Clinton explained.
Hillary Clinton again raised the idea of a joint ticket Friday in Mississippi, saying “that might be possible some day.”
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Clinton supporter, also says he’d support a Clinton-Obama ticket.
Obama has not ruled out the joint ticket idea, but says it’s premature to talk about those hypothetical scenarios.

I don’t think Obama would want the Clinton “slime” rubbing off on him. He doesn’t carry
all the baggage that Bill and Hillary must tote with them. They are bought by the special
interests and he wouldn’t want that “albatross” tied around his neck. He can pick such good
clean people that he would not have to have these rotten skunks with their stinch trailing behind
as far back as Arkansas. Theft, lying under oath, rape, and even murder scandals will dog
the Clintons for the rest of their political lives! They need to go away. Far away!
I cannot understand why people are so mean-spirited about Hillary Clinton. She is a remarkable woman. I think her campaign has been very civil to Barack Obama. The venom and hate-filled comments on these replies seem to be coming from the Obama side. I think Barrack would be ashamed of you.
Michigan and Florida residents have already been misrepresented and disenfranchised by leaders moving up the primary date. Then the public was not adequately educated on the one-sided democratic representation on the ballot. Because of the large number of “uncommitted” votes and the many registered voters that did not vote because the candidate of their choice was not on the ballot added to those that did not understand how their vote would count, I doubt very seriously that Senator Clinton won Michigan. To give Senator Clinton delegates from Michigan and Florida or have Michigan residents vote again after the Clinton’s and the press/media have poisoned the minds of American citizens with untruths, exaggerations and scare tactics with the help of radio/TV talk show hosts, is to add insult to injury. Senator Obama followed the National Democratic Committee rules. The other members of the Democratic Party seem to have no integrity, willing to go to any lengths to achieve “winning” status: reneging on a signed agreement to waive delegates and campaigning in Michigan and Florida, to make sure they win. This is not a Democracy! The actions of the Michigan and Florida Democratic Party leaders can be viewed as biased and intentional to eliminate the true votes cast for candidates other than Senator Clinton. At this point, a “Do-Over” or anything supposing to correct the blunder would, in my opinion, further disenfranchise Michigan and Florida residents and destroy respect for Democratic Party process. We constantly drill our children and employees on following the rules and face the consequences for not following the rules. Reminding them that the rules were clearly spelled out and consequences agreed upon. What kind of message does this behavior from our government leaders send to our children and the rest of the world???
If I was Obama, I wouldn’t want Hillary as my #2 either. You’d have to keep a Secret Service agent inbetween Obama and her/slick willie. Yep, she wants to be #1 that badly……………
I think an Obama-Clinton ticket would be extremely positive for attracting votes. Sen. Obama has demonstrated that he is intelligent, capable of bringing diverse, polarized interests together and a dynamic leader. He is thoughtful in discourse and able to think independently rather than being scripted. He is capable of of listening to advice rather than imposing self-centered opinion. I would prefer, however, that he would select a running mate whose experience, particularly in foreign policy and national security matters, is real rather than questionable.
I can not even imagine Hillary settling for second place. The Clintons are always in it for themselves and anybody else be damned! As far as Obama ben laden as her vp, he had better take out some major life ins. on himself for his wife’s benefit!
Why would Obama, a fine, intelligent, competent young man be interested in being Hillary’s assistant? He can do just fine without her. She would destory him. She would never consent to being VP either and I would hope he wouldn’t interested in having her as VP. She was in the White House too long the first time.
Bush will go down as one of the greatest Presidents ever. Lincoln, Reagon, Bush.
Hillary and Bill think that if she says Obama could be on the ticket is just another way of her stealing votes that would otherwise go to Obama. Some people would actually BELIEVE she’s being truthful. Come onlpeople this is just a vote getting ploy. She’ll do anything to get elected.
if Obama even thinks of putting hillary on his ticket he would lose all of my respect for having good judgment . but just to let Obama figure it out himself he should think about what happened to Vince Foster when he dealt with the Clinton’s.
