Rep. King Stands by Prediction That Obama Presidency Would Be Welcomed by Terrorists
U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa — An Iowa Republican congressman on Monday defended his prediction that terrorists would celebrate if Democrat Barack Obama were elected president, despite a rebuke from aides to John McCain, the GOP’s apparent presidential nominee.
“(Obama will) certainly be viewed as a savior for them,” Rep. Steve King told The Associated Press. “That’s why you will see them supporting him, encouraging him.”
King said his offices have been bombarded with calls — positive and negative — since he said Friday that Al Qaeda “would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror.”
King cited Obama’s pledge to pull U.S. troops from Iraq, his father’s Muslim roots in Kenya and his middle name, Hussein, which King said has a meaning to terrorists.
Asked about the remarks as he campaigned in Mississippi, Obama said, “I think that Mr. King has it backwards. The fact that the continuation of a presence in Iraq as Senator McCain has suggested is exactly what, I think, will fan the flames of anti-American sentiment and make it more difficult for us to create a long-term and sustainable peace in the world.
“But I have to say that Mr. King and individuals like him thrive on offensive or controversial statements as a way to get in the papers, so I don’t take it too seriously. I would hope Senator McCain would want to distance himself from that kind of inflammatory and offensive remarks,” Obama said.
Aides to McCain also disavowed King’s comments.
“John McCain rejects the type of politics that degrades our civics … and obviously that extends to Congressman King’s statement,” spokesman Brian Rogers told The Associated Press.
Last month, McCain also denounced his introduction in Cincinnati by talk-show host Bill Cunningham, who referred to Obama three times as “Barack Hussein Obama.”
Obama supporters have claimed such tactics are being used to imply that he is a Muslim.
The Illinois senator, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan man, is a Christian and has said he has little connection to the Islamic religion, though he acknowledges spending part of his childhood in largely Muslim Indonesia.

I hate to say it, but I agree with Congressman King. However unfortunate, it is naive to think that our enemies won’t rejoice at the idea of a Muslim United States President. Mr. Obama is muslim. He was born to a muslim father, which makes him Muslim. His middle name is Hussein, that is a fact. I guarantee the folks in the middle east would rather see us elect Senator Obama than anyone else.
I have to say, I’m pretty sick and tired of all this one-sided political correctness and reverse discrimination. If Senator McCain was raised by white supremicts, everyone would be talking about that. Although I don’t believe Mr. Obama is a terrorist, I do believe he is a racist. Check out the website for his church - http://www.tucc.org.
If that is not enough to give you pause about Mr. Obama, then the fact that he has no experience should. Look at his voting record. You can find it at votesmart.org. Rather than taking a stand (which could possibly be used against him) he votes “present” the majority of the time.
Everyone seemed to have missed this little gem; I did too, until I sat here twiddling my thumbs while paging through old mail. There it was ….
In all their own previous statements both Senators in running assured America that with President Bush gone everything would be just fine, America will be happy, there won’t be no wars, Senator Obama would end all that, Soldiers home safely by end March …. America, everyone would sing and dance, love each other, a whole World at peace amongst Nations. PARADISE INDEED! soon as President Bush goes.
Why would she think anyone would want to call her at 3am? What crisis could there be?
Funny, isn’t it?
I have to laugh at this ignorance. Saying the terrorists would be dancing if Obama is elected president is a horrible and cruel statement. That’s like me saying gee, if Hillary is elected we will have lesbians/gays, rapist, white collar crimes enough to circle the world a few times. It just doesn’t make any sense. This guy needs to take a step back, count to 10 and then tell Senator Obama how sorry he was for making such a false and ignorant statement!!!
Rep King has the right to say whatever he wants.
I am so embarrassed…I am from Iowa…I just realized King is also. Have you ever heard such crazy talk in your life.
What an embarrassment to the Republican party.
This is why the people are voting Democrat…The republicans have lost it.
Our president does not have any idea of our own gas prices or food prices…makes you wonder who is really running washington doesn’t it.
WAKE UP WASHINGTON!!!
Obama said, “I think that Mr. King has it backwards. The fact that the continuation of a presence in Iraq as Senator McCain has suggested is exactly what, I think, will fan the flames of anti-American sentiment and make it more difficult for us to create a long-term and sustainable peace in the world.
It is clear that Obama has it backwards, it is a fact that the Islamo-facist movement is fanning
the flames of anti-West, anti-American and anti-Isreali hatered.
It is a fact that that the Islamo-facist as stated by they themselves are intent on destroying the west and imposing sharia law
The Facist were fanning the flames of anti-west hatered long before 9/11 and the Iraq war.
An Obama victory followed by a retreat from Iraq will be viewed as American weakness
and a victory for the Facist.
I agree with Rep. King but thats not to say that I dont agree with how John McCain is handling it… he must denounce it because he is a man of great character and does not wish to run a negative campaign which anyone i feel could respect… however I dont think Sen. McCain needs to seperate himself from it… he could simply say “its not my words” because it isn’t… what someone else says shouldn’t trickle back to a candidate like that… McCain shouldn’t throw Rep. King under the bus but should be guarded about making such claims himself as it would jepordize his reputation of a man with outstanding character and humility… I think if anyone would honestly sit down and look at the facts… taking emotion and everyone else’s hearsay out of the equation then they’ll see that John McCain is the man for the job…
VOTE JOHN McCAIN IN 08!!!
What a bunch of b.s. - and fear mongering. It’s obvious that Fox, like Cnn and Time has jumped on the bad Obama good Hillary wagon. King need to go take an enema. anyone with any intelligence is going to see this for what it is. I have a neighbor who is convinced Obama is a terrorist who will bomb America. lol AND he knows this because Hillary Clinton has said it’s true- his words. All based on a middle name. Too bad Bill or Hillary doesn;t have a middle name we could use to their discredit, but Hillary corrupt Clinton and Bill Horny Clinton……………ah well.
It was apparent, to some, that the congressman was accurately describing how Obama’s election would be viewed/used by muslim terrorist.
Remember, BinLaden in proudly announcing the defeat of the USSR by his group used it to fuel the current wave of terror. It is unfortunate for Obama at this time in history, a person who is otherwise be a good candidate, that his election or even cadidacy to run for the predency will provide what amounts to nuclear fuel to power the terrorist propaganda machine based on his declared policy for the US departure from Iraq.
BinLaden would quickly declare that he has defeated the worlds most powerful superpowers, the USSR and the USA. He would use this theme to draw more followers and embolden them to more terrific acts of murder (against mostly civilians).
It will be easy for people to refuse to recognize this possibility just as they refuse to educate themselves through similiar events of the past 50 yrs to recognize realistically the cause and effect of the election of Obama in regards to terrorism.
I think Mr. King is right on!! Obama scares the hell out of me and should scare everyone but we have idiots in America that can’t see further than their noses. If Obama gets elected President there goes our country to the depths of hell. Watch and learn!!
