Obama Says Ferraro Race Comments Are ‘Patently Absurd,’ Campaign Calls for Ouster

Barack Obama on Tuesday lashed out at Geraldine Ferraro, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter who says Obama has been helped politically by his race. The former Democratic vice presidential candidate responded that she stands by her remarks.

Ferraro first made the controversial remarks to the Los Angeles-area newspaper The Daily Breeze last week, saying Obama would not be enjoying such positive media attention if he were white.

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” Ferraro said during an assessment of Obama’s treatment by the press that she attributes to an infatuation with the racial implications of his candidacy.

“And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

Ferraro added that Clinton has suffered from a “sexist media.”

Obama labeled the comments as “patently absurd” after his campaign demanded Ferraro leave her post on Clinton’s finance committee. The Democratic presidential candidate told the Allentown Morning Call Tuesday: “I don’t think that Geraldine Ferraro’s comments have any place in our politics or the Democratic Party. … I think they were divisive.”

He added: “I think that anybody who understands the history of this country knows they are patently absurd. I would expect that the same way those comments don’t have a place in my campaign, they shouldn’t have a place in Senator Clinton’s.”

Ferraro told FOX News Tuesday that she’s “sorry that people thought it was racist.” But she quickly turned the tables on Obama, claiming his supporters are too eager to cry race when faced with criticism.

“What I find is offensive is every time anybody says something about the campaign, you’re accused of being racist,” she said.

She then told The Daily Breeze on Tuesday: “Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”

Clinton said in Pennsylvania Tuesday that she doesn’t agree with Ferraro’s remarks, but did not say anything about removing her from the campaign.

“I think it’s important we stay focused on the issues that matter to the American people. Both of us have had supporters and staff that have gone over the line and we’ve both had to rein them in,” she said.

The Clinton campaign also released a statement accusing Obama of trying to renege on an apparent pledge to leave the race issue alone.

“We reject these false, personal and politically calculated attacks on the eve of a primary,” said campaign manager Maggie Williams.

Voters headed to the polls in the Mississippi on Tuesday. The state offers 33 pledged delegates and the largest black electorate of any state. Polls there consistently favor the Illinois senator.

The race comments set off a back-and-forth similar to the one the campaigns shared last week, when former foreign policy adviser Samantha Power left the Obama campaign after calling Clinton a “monster” in an interview with a Scottish newspaper.

Obama chief strategist David Axelrod suggested the emphasis on race is part of an underlying effort that has continued for months. He noted other allegedly insensitive comments by Clinton supporters BET founder Bob Johnson and New Hampshire co-chairman Bill Shaheen.

“All this is part of an insidious pattern that needs to be addressed,” Axelrod told reporters on a conference call Tuesday. “When you wink and nod at offensive statements, you’re really sending a signal to your supporters that anything goes.”

Axelrod said the Obama camp has been “very firm” in dealing with such wayward comments — a reference to the campaign’s handling of Power’s remarks. He said Ferraro should be removed from her campaign positions.

Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky said that Clinton should call on her advisers to “change the tone” of the campaign.

“Any and all remarks that diminish Senator Obama’s candidacy because of his race are completely out of line,” she said. “We need to stop tearing each other down with personal attacks and focus on defeating Senator McCain in November.”

The issue of Obama’s race surfaces periodically, often when a southern state, rich in black voters, is on the line. Bill Clinton raised it in South Carolina, which went heavily for Obama with the help of black voters. Clinton suggested Obama only won because of his race by raising the point that Jesse Jackson also won there when he ran for president.

She is so correct!!!!!

Comment by Sam from Texas

The truth and reality of the situation is as she states. Compare his record and sub a white man or a woman in it…they would have been out last year. It is the fault of the media and the Obama campaign. They are the ones turning this in to a race and gender issue.

Comment by Kai T

Wow.

Just like I suppose Obama wouldn’t be so well received if he were white, I may be tempted to believe that Clinton was a victim of sexist media if the person who said it wasn’t a woman.

Shut up.

Comment by Belle

Ferraro is absolutely correct. But anything said about race is rascist unless it is in Obama’s favor. Kinda funny how that works.

Comment by MEL

WHITES HAVE BEEN VOTING FOR WHITES SINCE OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED. WHAT IS WRONG WITH A BLACK VOTING FOR A BLACK.

Comment by shane

I have more of a problem with the LOGIC of the comment than is racial indications. So she means to tell me that A BLACK MAN is getting the benefit of the doubt in AMERICA? lol! SInce when has a black man, perhaps the most hated and stereotyped group of people in AMerican history, being given the benefit of the doubt?! Its laughable. Blacks have more people in prison as a percentage of their total populationand are poorer than whites on average, and shes trying to convince me that the public’s perception is favorable to obama because he is black? If balcks are loved that much, maybe we shouldnt be sentenced as harshly as we are. If anythig being BLACK HURTS OBAMA! Second of all Obama is not the first black man to run for president! She acts like it is brand new. Jesse jackson ran for president. Did he get “special treatment”? According to her reasoning, AL sharpton also got special treament. SHe claims its a “sexist media” that is hurting hillary, and yet she fails to mention that fact that clintons LAST NAME had the majority of the SUPER DELEGATES lined up behind her before one person voted. Hillary clinton is not the first woman to run for president, so why is she doing so well? Is it because she is a WHITE WOMAN? Denise majette, a black woman, ran for president in 2004 and didnt even make it to super tuesday? CLinton and her supporters are a joke. There have been 43 presidents in this country. NONE OF THEM BLACK! HOw can anyone argue that obama is here only because he’s black. Its unbeleivable.

Comment by Deanne,KS

It is true, enough said!

Comment by RuthieM

So, has she been ousted yet? HA! I guarantee you NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will be done here, this Geraldine Ferraro will not be ousted and she will still be in the Clinton camp, still mouthing the same stuff. But if the Obama people let this happen then they need to go and reinsteate Samantha Power back into the Obama campaign and then tell the Clintons and the Clinton campaign to kiss their grits!!!

Comment by Scott C

People need to understand that while it IS true that blacks are voting for Obama because he is black.

However it is true that a large chunk of those who vote for Clinton are supporting her, to NOT support the black candidate.

I like in New England, hardly a racially bigoted hotbed like some other places in the country, and I work with the elderly, I would say nearly 80% of them are racist. Many of though certainly not a ALL of the elderly supporting Clinton are leaning her way because they don’t like black people (Though I can’t discount that they do believe in what Hillary says, but race IS a factor).

She also has almost all the Latino vote.

LATINOS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR HATING BLACKS.

So the racially charged voting goes both ways.

He gets the black vote but has plenty of people against him because of his race.

Hillary Clinton should reject and denounce this comment and demand her resignation.

Wolfson calls Obama Ken Starr and another attributes his success to his race.

Obama let Power go, she should do the same.

If the media is biased in favor of Obama why hasn’t anyone mentioned that the same source that said Obama gave conflicting NAFTA info to the Canadians… said Clinton did the same thing.

Comment by Christine Basil

Sen Obama’s outrage would be considered a great deal more sincere IF we weren’t being spoon fed stories every day about what a “credit to his race” and “savior to his people” and “first African American Candidate with real chance”…soon and so forth. Not to mention African Americans literally lining up to vote for him for no other apparent reason other than “because he’s black” .
I even read on story in my local paper about how some woman insisted on taking her children to the polling booth so they “could watch her historic vote for a black presidential candidate”.

Give me a break…I’m getting really tired of Obama’s cake walk to the White House with the media sniffling around like to ask him a real question or hold him to the same standard’s of a non God like creature might be construde as racist.

Comment by KAY

What part of NO don’t the Clintons understand. It does not matter what race, creed, color or political views Obama has. WE DON’T LIKE HILLARY and will vote for anyone opposite her…..

Comment by Don't Understand

Why do these people like Geraldine insist on shoving their foot in their mouth? Don’t believe, any of these people know when to shut the hell up.

My mother taught me at very young age, “when you nothing nice to say, don’t say anything”.

Comment by swazae

I am in no way a racist, and I do not condone it when it is thrown in peoples faces. When I look at these comments as they were printed, and mind you I have heard them even stated by political people on different news agencies, it based on facts not opinions. So what Obamas camp is saying that we no longer can state facts???? Look at the exit polls for those states is it not a fact that he received a big majority of the black vote? Did we not hear on TV that black people are voting for him because he is black??? So what is the big deal here? No one has made any rude or racist comments as far as I can see…..

Comment by Bob

Get rid of her! She’s still bitter over 1984.

Comment by bob

So, let me get this straight:

1-Obama wants someone critical of his success to limit their speech, so as not to ‘offend’
2-Obama’s wife claims she is proud of her country for the first time in her adult life, yet he doesn’t call for her retraction of what, to most Americans would find offencsive

I guess it is a ‘Brave New World’ after all when people are ‘upset’, and try to limit other’s criticism.

Wow.

Comment by Bob

In my opinion Mr. Obama should wait to silence free speech until after he is elected. If Ferraro believes he is the Golden Child of the media because he is black then it seems only right she be allowed to do so. If she wishes then to speak that opinion, also it seems normal in a free society. The truth of the matter he is black and that may or may not influence peoples opinions about him and whether or not to vote for or against him. Doesn’t seem such a wild idea. Much of the media is quite liberal and such a concept should not be so hard to imagine. Of course that does not seem to be the point, rather the point is should she be allowed to speak her mind? God help us if a republican ever said such a thing. I think the proper way to address this issue is to say that, Obama is not black, McCain is not white nor old, Hillary is not a woman and the appearance or gender of the candidate does not in any way influence ones choice for President. That idea then should be sufficiently ridiculous so that no man may take issue with it and demand the thought be destroyed. It seems only the truth is to be feared and attacked.

Comment by Tom

So if I understand correctly if you are black you CAN speak about race but if you are white, you cannot.

I have this NUTTY idea…how about we vote for the most qualified candidate, regardless of sex or race.

Comment by Sharen Barrett

Does anyone know where we can get some adults to run for President–seems both sides are a little lacking in that department!

Comment by Andy Bleiberg

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” she said.

And if Hillary’s last name were Smith, *she* wouldn’t be in the position *she’s* in.

Comment by bob kholos

Ferraro was part of a presidential campaign that was a complete failure: Mondale/Ferraro.
Now, I understand why.
As far as women being treated poorly by the media: I wonder how Two US Senators made it from California, not to mention Nancy Pelosi, and the many Women governors in power.
Obama is the better candidate, that is why he is ahead of Hillary.

Comment by IJC from IRAQ

Stupid people can only say stupid thing. I like Clinton, but the more negative her campaign goes the more I distance myselft from her.

Comment by Timothy James Harding

No matter how politically incorrect Geraldine Ferraro’s comments may sound, she speaks the truth and people should give her credit for being brave enough to come forward and speak vocally in public in what many Americans are privately thinking anyway.

Her comments are not racially prejudiced, however she has suggested that affirmative discrimination in Obama’s favour is being carried out.

Obama wants her ousted - I guess she must of hit a nerve….the truth is brutal at times!!!!

Comment by A. BAGARELLA

this is all out of control. everyone is afraid to say anything because ombama and blacks will all make it racial. that is what is happening in this country. the blacks are dividing this country by showing they want a black man in office by voting for obama. the percentage point for black for him and not for hillary are unbelievable. that shows a divide right there, blacks against whites.
they are automatically voting for him because of his color, not for the candidate.

Comment by Joshua Pincus

I don’t get it. Ferraro isn’t being racist. She’s making a very legitimate point about a black man with no credentials whatsoever getting a free pass by a media infatuated with him for many reasons, including his race. So what? This is news? She is completely and totally right, and the Clinton campaign if they had any balls would come out swinging on her behalf. This is Ferraro we’re talking about. Not some two-bit Harvard hack.

Comment by Stan Adans

To whom it may concern,
I have grown up in a very mixed black neighborhood. I have experienced many different views of black people. I never have found that I could trust, be a close friend or any other type of exchange between a black person with a white person. It is not that I am against a black running for president, but when will his true identity be exposed when he does become a president. In other words, I cannot trust him, especially he being brought up as a muslim.

Comment by DemPride

I think both parties should stop the bullying and bickering. This banter is not not good regardless whose doing the pointing. Ferraro stated a fact - not a slanderous comment. It’s just pointless. Stick to the facts. Make sure all votes are counted. If this has to go to the convention, so be it. May the best candidate in the end WIN!!!

Comment by Nancy Baker

I concur with Ms Ferraro, the media has treaded lightly to avoid any reference to Obama being black..and there certainly has been passes to the obama campaign when it comes to ” WHO IS HE REALLY?

It amazes me as to how many black folks vote for him because he is black, it is a very sad day when we put someone in office because they are whote, black or female.

Comment by Bill Muir

The old saying goes “You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends.”. Continually picking ‘friends’ that speak in the racist and sexist manner that Ms. Ferraro has; by not IMMEDIATELY repudiating and refuting (as Sen Clinton demanded that Sen Obama do over Farrakhan) the absolutely repugnent remaks of Gloria Steinem; Hillary Clinton demonstrates her poor judgement. “Ready on day one”?!? For what? A continual stream of poor decisions, bad judgement, petty vindictivness? By her many examples of - shall we say - flirting with the truth (”I helped bring about peace in No. Ireland.”), actively blocking all attempts to release records (where are your tax recrods Ms. Clinton and how about your schedule as First Lady?) she show that she is not now and never will be ready to be President.

Comment by mike

Oratory skills my foot.Obama is not that great of a speaker unless of course you count his ability to rehash the same old tired speech that he has mastered and repeats at every stop.

If you listen carefully the fool speaks about three words, four at the most and pauses to search his empty brain for three or four more words. The ineptness of his approach in speaking has apparently rubbed off on his wife as she displays the same broken thought process.Just telling it like it is.

The media and others who praise his approach use it as a way to say something good about him when in fact it is the only good thing they can find to say about him.

You can always tell when obama is about to say something that he has not previously rehashed over and over again. As he always uses the word UNDERSTAND prior to saying anything that has not been rehearsed and rehashed.

How is that a man who claims to have chosen to help the unfortunate people in Chicago by not taking a high paying job can now afford a $1.6 million dollar dream home on the low pay of a state senators income and now that of a U.S. Senator???

The math does not add up no matter how you try and figure it.The guy has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar and is obviously complicit to some degree with Rezko in obtaining his dream home.

Geraldine is correct in her observation.

Comment by Capt Bob

Well I would guess it works both ways, Ms. Ferraro would have never been a V.P. contender if she were not a woman, she had no value other then her sex at the time.

Comment by Concerned Voter

Reading and seeing everything that are now surrounding this election people can not avoid but conclude that we are about to experience the most tragic and scary election that an american could ever imagine in the history of our proud nation.

A lot of electorate do not vote base on what is important for our beloved nation but by charisma of some candidates. Electorate with the influence of news media even fail to examine the background and experiences of these self proclaimed “Ready to Lead” politicians.

I just hope that we as Americans will truly show our patriotism by electing the worthy candidate who is not tainted with any hypocrisy, corruptions nor alliance with any corrupt individual who might influence their decisions for their selfish interests…

It really scares me as i look at my children and grandchildren specially knowing that the most charismatic individual who might win in this election had ties with known individual who’s preaching divisions and segregations among the people of this wonderful country.

Hearing that people are now becoming proud Americans only because things are going better for their interest is shameful and unpatriotic and has no right to lead this country for they might abandon this country if things are not going for them and not in their best interests.

My appeal to our countrymen is PLEASE VOTE WITH YOUR CONSCIENCE AND PRIDE AS AMERICANS!!! Don’t be swayed by mere promises of a not sincere politician who has other interests than to bring our beloved country to a more STABLE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHO CAN LEAD ALL NATIONS TO FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY AND LOVE OF GOD!!!

Comment by Ron

Ferraro and Power are both right. Obama is black and Hillary is a monster. What’s the big deal?

Comment by Aron

The Obama people are too much!
I mean Ferraro’s comments may have been indelicate, But the way the Obama camp continues to feel that they have some devine right to determine how every other campaign should run and conduct itself is unbelievable!
First of all, one must understand that Obama is getting better and more coverage, generally speaking, than Clinton is. Oh well, such is life. On the other hand, if/when HIllary is running against John McCain, and the media immediatley becomes her best friend (Which it will), she will be all-to-happy to bask in their collective glow! So, Clinton’s campaign, at best is being hypocritical in their honesty.
But that the Obama camp persistantly feels empowered to attempt to dictate how every other campaign should conduct themselves is really unbelievable! McCain haas already made the mistake of taking direction from Obama’s Team— Which he will soon regret having done!

Comment by John Mosby

I have been a civil rights attorney for 32 years. What is offensive about the statement.

Comment by Robert Smith

Wait a minute! Obama didn’t distance his self from Louis Ferrican and after being badgered by the moderator in the debate that it was brought up in, still didn’t distance his self properly. Granted Louis didn’t go after Mrs Clinton, but if he is able to shrug off the backer as not his responsibility to control, why would Mrs Clinton be responsible for having to control her backers? Not only that, but the comment made was not inflammatory, but an opinion about treatment of the press that has been document that it is unbalanced. Granted it does NOT mean that the unbalance is because of race, it could be that he is newer in congress, younger, any number of things…but it also could be because of his race too….

Comment by Tim in Ohio

Get real - the first woman who could possibly become the nominee of her party for President should disavow a comment by the first woman nominated by her party for Vice President - yeh right! And, don’t forget - its the same party. Also, the comment was made by - oh, imagine this - one of her supporters and probable Super Delegates.

If Hillary cannot win the nomination straight out on her own, without resorting to these sort of tactics - she doesn’t deserve the nomination!!!!!

If she gets it through underhanded, backroom, whisper-in-your-ear efforts, then she gets it by way of deception!

If that is allowed to happen then everyone who really wants to see change - really doesn’t and they have no room to complain when they find out that it is just “the same old sh-t just wrapped differently”!

Comment by Mark

Unfortunately, Ferraro’s comments are right on the money. Race has everything to do with the soft media coverage. It certainly isn’t ideological differences. We are talking about two liberals on the extreme left wing of the Democratic party here. How else besides race and gender separates them?

Comment by Samantha

Geraldine Ferraro is a fool to make this statement. She should be removed from the campaign.

Clinton is not served by any campaign people who are loose cannons. This election shouldn’t be about who’s black or who’s white or who’s female or who’s male. It should be about who is best qualified to be President of the United States. The President is not elected to represent a particular ethnic group, or gender group or religious group, or age group, because that is also an issue here that shouldn’t be an issue.

We are the nation with the greatest diversity of people in the world, and there are many, many ethnic groups, races and religions and ages in the United States.

I also don’t like it that the voters are so polarized, it is a bad thing for this country. We can’t have black against white, female against male, young against old, religions pitted against each other and think we have a workable election or a workable nation.

This has to stop on both sides, now.

Comment by Jackson

this is so ridiculous … is this what we have to look forward to if NOBAMA is elected?

Comment by Toni

Geraldine Ferraro wasn’t making a racist statement; it’s true… Obama could be the Antichrist or Radical Muslin working his way into our system for all we know; yet the blacks and liberals will vote for him anyway… I have no problem supporting any candidate black, white, or whatever; but I want to know who they are, where they come from, and their accomplishments…

Comment by JIMMIE HOLLIS

SHE IS RIGHT—AND HER REMARKS WERE NOT RACISTS BUT THE TRUTH—-AS AN AMERICAN OF AFRICAN ANCESTRY AND RETIRED MILITARY MAN, I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THE OBAMA PEOPLE–ANYTHING SAID ABOUT HIM OR TO HIM BY A NON-SUPPORTER WILL BE SAID TO BE RACIST—-MCCAIN HAS A TOUGH ROAD TO TRAVEL—-

Comment by Jim Gallagher

White liberal Democrats are racists? I would never have guessed! The truth is the white liberals can’t afford to let a black man lead the party and Hillary will steal the nomination via the Super Delegates. Liberals have too much invested in race baiting and class warfare to allow a black man to win.

Comment by Diane

What’s true is true. Obama is just trying as usual to change the subject, he is not ready to be comander in chief of America. He will not have my vote.

Comment by leandre

white america is getting scared so now they have dispatched the white scarecrow out to send the message.

Get over it white folks the brothe is heading to the big house… we are not as nasty and deceitful as you.

Comment by Margie

I agree with Geraldine Ferrero. If O’Bama was white, he would have been out a long time ago.

Comment by Bob Bolen

I don’t know who listens to Geraldine Ferraro anyway. I have been trying to figure out for years why Fox gives her a platform to speak from.

Comment by Jason Pennington

So, what I dont get about the dimwitted dems is that they go after each other, tooth and nail, but then they want people to quit when they say something a big controversial. What is so controversial about ferraro’s statement? Isn’t it the truth? Honestly? Screw being politically correct. I have had to quit writing my blog because it makes my blood pressure go up, and IM afraid ill have a heart attack, and I am physically fit and 28 yrs old. This country has gone crazy when it comes to being PC.

Comment by Adam Jackson

My, my! I thought it was Republicans who were racist.

Comment by John

I absolutely LOVE it. The Democrats are so wound up in their own rhetoric that they can’t get both feet on the ground at one time. For years we’ve had to listen to this crap that says that anyone who even mentions race is no better than those who bombed the churches in Birmingham a half-century ago. Now, they get the other end of the knife. You walk around with a rattlesnake in your pocket for long enough and this is what happens.

Comment by Dan A

Clinton should fire her but she wont because that is the type of language her and ” slick willie” use all the time. Hillary hires people just like herself–sleazy, manipulative and frustrated. No wonder Ferraro never got elected VP in the 80’s. She is a flat out racist!!!

Comment by El Lepero

Ferraro is absolutely correct with her statement. No way should she be chastized for her remarks. How about all the slamming remarks made against Hillary by the Obama Camp. The worse offender is CNN and other liberal Networks. Thank you Fox News for your impartial coverage.

Sounds like the Obama people are being SEXIST, going after these 2 women, Ferraro and Clinton.

Isn’t it amassing that Obama and Clinton can call President Bush any derogatory name and make any kind of accusation that they want and that is fine. But when someone says something about them or calls them some uncomplimentary name, that just isn’ fair! It would appear to me neither of them are “thick skinned” enough to be president.

Comment by Fred

I don’t see why anything needs to be done. I thought everyone knew by now that the Clintons’ have a different set of rules. But that is reasonable, after all, she knows what is best for us, so she needs to be given some leeway!

Comment by NJ Man

What Ferraro said was true. Its amazing how the truth of a statement has become secondary to whether its “insensitive”.

Comment by Jane

Geraldine Ferraro is absolutely right. Maxine Waters who is considerably more experienced than
Barak Obama would never have gotten past a fund raiser. The same would be true for ANY less than
one term Senator or US Representative. Ferraro’s statements are NOT racist - this is yet another
example of the Obama campaign’s divisive use of race in their rabid pursuit of the presidency.

United States Flag - a country he wants to run!!! Editorials criticizes
anachronisms in Barack Obama’s 2007 Selma Speech…Snopes says is 1/2 true
and 1/2 false. Well, which half.? Why should any of it been false? We had
better be careful, VERY careful. There’s more I ‘m going to check out about

once again mr obama race is playing a issued in this election when the american people have made up their minds or is making up their mind on race and to them it do not matter. a large percent of white america is voting for mr obama along with african american and yes if something have never happens befor it get a little more attention and if the media have never had to deal with a black candidate on this level than maybe they the media do not know how to come at mr obama with out making it look like they are bashing the black guy(lets keep race out of this election but i know it will not happen because it have never happen)

Comment by Abdullah

But it’s true! It’s because the MSM is so very afraid of being labeled racist that there’s no deeper and more critical examination of Obama’s policies, past activities and background. The very fact that the Obama campaign is so quick to label any comment as racist proves just that.

Comment by G

I find it truly amazing that the “wink and nod” of sexism seems to be ok with Obama and his supporters.

But just let anyone even mention racism and the whole liberal afro-american political movement goes ballistic. Sharpton and his sycophants have another media field day and Clinton gets side-swiped by the press again.

It’s starting to look like there will (and should) be another Republican president in the US of A. Obama and the liberal left are looking scarier by the moment.

The “PC” movement is making a mockery of the constitution of the United States.
God Rest America

Ms. Ferraro should have not said what she said in the middle of the campaign. Ms. Ferraro should have waited after the election. I think Ms. Ferraro comment is very true, but you don’t want to open your mouth at this time. There is a time and place, and this is not the time or place.

Borat whining again….guess the truth hurts. This fraudster is not qualified to serve as Commander in Chief. Hell, he won’t even honor the American flag by wearing a lapel pin. His time will come once the genersal election campaign begins. There is more in this Socialists background than the American public knows and he will be exposed.

Comment by Joe Venema

Hillary and her supporters will say and do anything to win. The Clintons see themselves as bigger than party and will tear apart the party and anyone in it who opposes them. In a lot of ways, Hillary is like a zombie who you think is dead, but just keeps coming. It’s a never ending horror movie with them.

Comment by Jerry W. Brown

While I find Obama not to be particularly offensive or otherwise undesirable as a candidate, I also agree with the statement that he is where he is because of his race. To think otherwise is to be naive. It is a foolish practice to ignore the obvious in any situation simply because it may not suit your purpose. Taking the “high road” in “race-sensitive” situations seems to be a popular, although not necessarily prudent, practice.

Comment by Jerry Robinson

So Geraldine still has that attitude that she can say anything and get away with it. One would think she would have learned somthing when she was running with Mondale as his VP. As I recall they only took one state and they ended up going down in flames: The worst defeat in political history. Hillary should have used more sence than have Ferraro/Zacarro on her team. That tells you a little about Hillary’s judgement.

Comment by Rae

Once again the Obama camp is playing the race card!!!! I don’t see anything racist about what she said. She simply said that if he were a woman or white that he would not get this far in the primary election due to his inexperience and lack of credentials. But leave it to Obama and his surrogates to play the race card!!!!How pathetic!!!!!I suppose she is sexist too?

The truth always hurts for Obama. Mrs. Ferraro only spoke the truth. Why is it when a white person brings up any issue of race in this country it is seen as a racist attack or someone plays the race card?

Obama has done nothing of significance other than run for President. The media themselves have even said they have treated him more fair because they are afraid to even mention race.
CNN and NBC are the most biased in his favor and speak very little of ethniticity.

The truth of the matter is, Obama is a fad that that this country will get over very quickly. Unfortunately the Democratic party will once again be in ruin once he is through. America continues to make the wrong choices election year after election year. America is looking for the next great TV personality in Obama, not a president.

Maybe Oprah can make Obama her replacement when she retires and he falls on his face.

What Ms Ferraro said is out of line and unacceptable! Mrs. Clinton should step up and back Barak Obama in trying to keep this race about the issues and not about the color of your skin or your gender. Both candidates are highly qualified individuals and that is what matters to the voters. Ms Ferraro’s comment hurt our party; she needs to leave… Neither candidate needs a bigot supporting them.

Sincerely,

I have a serious question for black voters and I’m hoping someone will see this post and answer my question. I am from MS and have numerous black friends. I have attended their churches and ate meals with their families. One thing is consistent…for the most part. They are very spiritual and have an unwavering love for God. So, I am wondering why they come out to support a man who is so liberal. He is pro-choice. He will not defend the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman, and, in my opinion he is on the opposite side of just about everything a christian should value. Also, if elected, he will appoint judges that believe the way he does and that’s what really concerns me. We are already suffering at the hands of Carter and Clinton liberal appointees. Most of my friends seem to think that Obama will do something personal for them because they are black. The whole thing just confuses me. Can anyone explain why black christian folk would vote for this man?

I think it’s sad that Senator Clinton is so afraid of failing that she tries to bring race into the political ring and try to get a sympathy card for being a woman. The way I see it a candidate is a candidate we should vote based on who will be the best President, and who has the same views on issues we cherish the most, not based on color, sex, or even who looks better.

Obama…wake up…you can’t cry over every little negative thing said about you..for petes sake!!
He attends a church with a racist pastor….I am so sick of this political correctness!!

If I were in Hillary’s camp, I tell Obama to run his own campaign and keep his nose out of mine and vice versa. Ferraro is entitled to her opinion as was Samantha Power when she called Hillary a monster. All this nitpicking serves to stir up emotion without the need to discuss substance on the issues that face us. It’s just more appearance of taking positions without actually having to say any thing resembling a real stance on a real topic.

Both candidates are morons. This is all about the media picking not to look racist over not looking sexist. If Obama was white he wouldn’t get the publicity he has, but at the same time Hillary would be the media darling because she is a woman. So in essence she is mad that the black guy came along and trumped her female card. Obama is smart for not admitting that the media is favoring because he is balck because then they would probably turn on him, but he has to know deep down inside that this is the case.

The problem here is, Ferraro is right. Then again so was Power ;-)

NO COMMENT OF RACE OR RELIGION SHOULD EVER BE BROUGHT IN A POLITICAL CAMPAIGNE. THE RACE IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE AND WHAT IS BEST FOR THEM AND WHAT THE CANIDTES VIEWS ARE ABOUT THE DIFFERENT SITUATIONS.

As much as one hate to agree with Ms. F., she’s right. and for the Obama campaign to be upset about it shows how much they are playing the race card. Heck, Obama started his campaign from the steps in Springfield spouting praise of Abraham Lincoln freeinf slaves, saying how far the balck man has come. He started it, but can’t take the heat of having his own thrown back on him. What a double standard he has! Anybody who speaks against him is “picking on him because of his race”. The press is afraid to critisize him for fear of racial acusations. The man has no campaign stand other than this!

You hav egot to be kidding if Obama thinks he is where he is just because of his ability he is in la la land, can you say Edwards. Edwards is much more quaified than Obama, Obama has got 80 plus support from the african American voters. Two s what about the biggest racist alive today farrakhan but becase he is black it is OK. I truely hate a racist but it works both ways.

Hillary shouldn’t cow to his demands. Ferraro is right and he knows it. Someone shouldn’t kick a campaign staffer off the team for speaking the truth.

Geraldine Ferraro had served less than three terms in the House when selected as the Veep candidate in 1984, with as I recall, little experience in foreign affairs. She would not have been a serious candidate for consideration by Walter Mondale had she not been a woman. With Hillary’s constant drone of 35 years worth or experience, i find this double standard fascinating.
