Clinton Apologizes to Black Voters for Racial Comments
WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton did something Wednesday night that she almost never does. She apologized. And once she started, she didn’t seem able to stop.
The New York senator, who is in a tight race with Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, struck several sorry notes at an evening forum sponsored by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a group of more than 200 black community newspapers across the country.
Her biggest apology came in response to a question about comments by her husband, Bill Clinton, after the South Carolina primary, which Obama won handily. Bill Clinton said Jesse Jackson also won South Carolina when he ran for president in 1984 and 1988, a comment many viewed as belittling Obama’s success.
“I want to put that in context. You know I am sorry if anyone was offended. It was certainly not meant in any way to be offensive,” Hillary Clinton said. “We can be proud of both Jesse Jackson and Senator Obama.”
“Anyone who has followed my husband’s public life or my public life know very well where we have stood and what we have stood for and who we have stood with,” she said, acknowledging that whoever wins the nomination will have to heal the wounds of a bruising, historic contest.
“Once one of us has the nomination there will be a great effort to unify the Democratic party and we will do so, because, remember I have a lot of supporters who have voted for me in very large numbers and I would expect them to support Senator Obama if he were the nominee,” she said.
The Clintons long have enjoyed overwhelming support from black voters, but that has been eclipsed during the primaries and caucuses by enthusiasm and support for Obama, who has pulled huge margins among black voters. Arguments over the role of race and gender have flared up repeatedly throughout the contest between Obama, who would be the nation’s first black president, and Clinton, who would be its first female one.
Earlier in the day, Hillary Clinton supporter and fundraiser Geraldine Ferraro gave up her honorary position with Clinton’s campaign after she said in an interview last week that Obama would not have made it this far if he were white. Obama said Ferraro’s remarks were “ridiculous” and “wrong-headed.”
Of Ferraro’s comment, Hillary Clinton told her audience: “I certainly do repudiate it and I regret deeply that it was said. Obviously she doesn’t speak for the campaign, she doesn’t speak for any of my positions, and she has resigned from being a member of my very large finance committee.”
As first lady and senator, Clinton rarely cedes an inch to her critics. On the issue of her vote to authorize the Iraq war, for instance, she steadfastly has refused to apologize, coming close by saying she regrets it, despite calls from many anti-war voters in the party to make a more explicit mea culpa.
Her third conciliatory statement of the evening was more in keeping with that fighting stance.
Asked about the government’s efforts in the Gulf States after Hurricane Katrina, Hillary Clinton turned an apology into a criticism of President Bush, who happened to be speaking at a Republican event in another room at the same hotel.
“I’ve said it publicly, and I say it privately: I apologize, and I am embarrassed that our government so mistreated our fellow citizens … It was a national disgrace,” she said.
Once again Billary says whatever she has to say to win the nomination. Her “mea-culpas” mean nothing to me. I’m soooooo tired of her I could puke. Thank GOD Senator Obama is going to be the next President of the United States instead of her. This from a lifetime republican who fully intends to vote for Senator Obama
Hillary went from a privileged child to President’s wife to Senator. Obama went from being child of an unwed immigrant, raised by a single mother, paid his own way thru college, studied constitutional law, graduated Magna Cum Laude, turned down a position as clerk for Supreme Court to become a community organizer, elected to state senate and served 8 years b4 becoming US senator. He has MORE experience than Clinton. She is a member of the aristocracy, he is one of us- vote for your own kind!
I’m white and still say this woman will say whatever she needs to say in order to get her way.
I do not trust her.
btw, I’m not actually an Obama supporter eiter. In fact I am still undecided except where she is concerned.
Best of luck Mr. Obama.
I wish someone would ask Senator Clinton what she would have done. Because of the wind, airplanes couldn’t fly and heliocopters couldn’t fly. The Louisana State police stopped relief trucks from going to New Orleans. The mayor of the city across the bridge stopped p[eople from coming into his town. If he had let them in relief could have been trucked in to them. I do not blame President Bush. LET’S ASK SENATOR CLINTON WHAT SHE WOULD HAVE DONE.
I can’t believe what I am reading! I am a republican and proud of my stand but I am so concern about Sen.Obama getting into office. I can’t believe that Geraldine Ferraro made a comment and every jump on her (not one came to her defense) shame on us!!!!! I believe that what she said is true is the respect that Sen. Obama is getting the attention of those Americans that really don’t read much about anyone person-most of these people don’t know much about him or his wife. It’s o.k. for her to talk in a paper she wrote at Harvard about black power and how blacks need to be united etc. but it was not OK for Mrs. Ferraro to give her view of things. I have a niece that is black and I am Mexican Americana - but they cannot tell me that all these blacks are voting for one of there own doesn’t matter what he stands for. This to me is so stupid we are truly stupid. It’s o.k. if they say things that are truly offensive and write papers that scare me (because being in the white house is not about black power but about taking a position to lead America and that means all races…I can’t believe that Hillary apologize she should have apologize to Geraldine Ferraro she had the guts to stand up for what was true. Sen. Obama is going to destroy this great country if people don’t wake up!!!!What happen to his ties with that gangster in Chicago? and the fact that this guy was a gangster.
Simply stated Hillary and Obama wouldn’t be where they were if people weren’t “wouldn’t it be cool if we had a women or black person as a president”. But now i hate black people and women for saying this……..RRRRRIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHTTTT. SO LAME.
The Clinton campaign has numerous time referred negatively to the African-American population as well as the Hispanic population. I would come to believe that the Clinton Campaign apologize and withdraw. We due not need a President with those type of bigotries in office.
Hillary let’s see if this tatic works for you regarding your somewhat apology to the blacl voters. Release your white house papers and your tax returns. That’s right your White House papers can’t be released until after the election. That’s odd. If you don’t get the presidency is it bye bye Bill.
I believe Hillary’s apologies are nothing more than “damage control” little to late. She is damaging the Democratic Party beyond believe. How can she sell the stupid idea that this dirty campaing make the candidates stronger?…perhaps by that comment she meant the Republican Party is the one getting stronger by her showing Obama’s weaknesses. No wonder why she is not a likeable person!!! Duh!!!!!!!!
Artic Warrior
I apologize my ass!, I watched for four days Katrina headed for new Orleans. Just another example of sit on your ass and say poor me. Mr. Bush is not responsible for people who sit with there thumb up they’re butt!
Senator Clinton is all mouth and no conscience. Everything she says can be judged by how many votes are in the balance. she and Bill are amoral, and driven to do whatever is politically expedient. Hence the “dream ticket” talk. According to her, Obama is not qualified to be president, however she would sure like to have him as her running-mate. How self-serving and transparent!
i yet to hear obama’s campaign for insinuating that the whites who dare speaks the truth are racist. hillary, pres. clinton, and ferraro and other whites have been working for the welfare of the blacks and yet they are portrait as racist. hillary should not apologize. it won’t matter. blacks will vote for blacks—data speaks for itself. so be it. the obama campaign is playing this race card and the white population is realizing this and getting fed up. that’s is why they are voting now for hillary. whites votes for obama; blacks for obama. so who really are the racist here? i am glad that ferraro is fighting this on her own. it’s about time that non-racist whites refused to be labeled as racist. they should not cower and cringe when this epithet is unjustly hurled at them. obama must be scrutinized just like all the candidates. the race card must not be a free pass to the white house!!!
http://www.williamjefferson.com
It’s owned by Obama’s team.. that is just foolishness. It’s as if he will run on anything but his own merits!
There are going to be people that will say Clinton has an advantage being white, or because she is a woman. There are going to be people that say Obama has an advantage because he is black. The truth is that we all have been put at a disadvantage with the way the media has covered this race. Imagine if the media would have put as much coverage on candidates like John Edwards, or Joe Biden. Clinton and Obama are running on everything John Edwards started. The coverage was so unfair from the start that he never had a chance. The American people were easily influenced by the media and in the end we are all the ones that will have to suffer by not having the best candidate, but the most popular.
You can not become a true leader when you are apologizing ad nauseum. This Democratic race has become a true farce. Sad.
How does Clinton really feel about Ferraro? She never said. Reread the article about Ferraro and Clinton and tell me where she directly criticized Ferraro. She said she “repudiated” what was said…huh? She regrets deeply what was said? Why? She didn’t say it. Ferraro doesn’t speak for the campaign or positions and she resigned is what else Hillary said about Ferraro. How about this: “Ferraro said terrible, harmful and racially disrespectful things and I fired her”
Whomp, whomp, whomp Hillary, tell it to someone who believes you!!!!
katrina get over it ,a bunch of losers.
I think everyone is reading too much into this racial thing. Me my self I hope Obama does get elected to be president because this would level the field on everything that is racially motivated. For example no one can say they didn’t get a certain job or promotion because of what race they are. Because it will take all races to get whoever gets elected president ,elected.
Why? He’s just as guilty as they are!!
“Anyone who has followed my husband’s public life or my public life know very well where we have stood and what we have stood for and who we have stood with,” is a true statement.
Not all of us Blacks have been hoodwinked by the Clintons. Some of us know exactly what they stood for and who. During the Clinton administration the only time they stood by Blacks was for a photo opt. I can not think any significant thing they did for Blacks while Bill was in office for eight years and Hillary’s brief service in the the senate. In other words, the only time, they stood with Blacks (or should I say allowed Blacks to stand with them), it was a political facade. When the cameras were gone, just like Socks the cat, so were the Blacks. As hard as the Democrats tried years ago they could not keep the slaves on the plantation and their Jim Crow laws could not keep Blacks voting. Rather you support Obama or not, one thing you have to admit, he is bringing out some folks’ true color.
Hillary cannot apologize without ending with a stab at someone else.
She should apologize to the Democrats for surrounding herself with losers.
Madame President? I don’t think so.
Hilary Your apology Not accepted. Ferraro should have been fired immediatly.ByYou. You have showed America you cannot make a decision. Remember your RED PHONE. Yor failed the test
WHILE I DON’T BELIEVE HILLARY CLINTON NEEDED TO APOLOGIZE FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S REMARKS, SHE WAS GRACIOUS TO DO SO. HOW ANYONE COULD BELIEVE THAT HILLARY OR BILL CLINTON WERE RACIST IS BEYOND MY UNDERSTANDING. ALL ONE HAS TO DO IS LOOK AT THEIR HISTORY WITH THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. AND, WHILE I DO NOT THINK BARACK OBAMA HIMSELF HAS PLAYED THE RACE CARD, I BELIEVE SOME IN HIS CAMPAIGN HAVE. HOPEFULLY, HILLARY CAN MOVE FORWARD IN HER CAMPAIGN TO WIN THE NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. GO HILLARY!
The comments weren’t really that racist. If people start crying racist all the time over small issues the word is going to loose it’s effect. We need to save the word for when someone who actually is racist comes along.
I feel that if any of the consultants or committee members of the Republican candidates had said something, there would have been a far greater outcry among the Democrats, and the media, for the CANDIDATE to resign along with the person who made the comment.
Where is the public furor over these obviously racially motivated comments?
There is none because only Republicans could possibly be racist.
This is why we as a country cannot work together and get over the past together….there are too many different sets of rules for too many people and those rules become more flexible depending on how “enlightened” or, rather, how liberal one is.
The Clintons are a bunch of phonies and their campaign is run by their phonie cronies.
Go Barack.
too little, too late.
Hillary being embarrassed that our government treated our citizens so badly regarding the response to Hurricane Kartina is such hot air. I am currently taking a master’s degree level class in emergency and disaster management. Since Katrina was the most costly disaster in American history, we are, of course, studying it. Many people want to blame the federal government and George Bush. If anyone stops to take a close look at the timeline leading up to Katrina making landfall, they will see that the majority of the miscues, if you want to use that term, came from the local and state levels…in other words, the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana. The fact is that neither one of them followed their own written hurricane plans. The mayor did not order a mandatory evacuation, despite being URGED to by the president and the head of the National Weather Service. The federal government and President Bush took the heretofor unheard of step of declaring a federal disaster BEFORE the hurricane even hit the Gulf Coast. That opened the way for tons of supplies to start heading towards the areas expected to be hit.
There is so much more to say about this disaster, but I don’t want to bore anyone more than I already have. I just urge people to look at the facts, look at the timelines, look at the amounts of food and water made available before the storm hit. Look at how disasterous Louisiana was and how much better Mississippi did. That’s because the governor there followed his plans and put them into motion in enough time to greatly diminish the effects of the storm on his people.
I am glad to see Ferraro quit because of her comments! We don’t need people acting like that and saying things like that; not at a time when we need to be speaking words that promote unity between our citizens. You must be very bitter Ferraro and certainly, without a doubt, very misguided by your team to have made such a comment. Get plugged in Ferraro to what is happening. Start producing something positive with your comments rather than something negative. Give me something substantial I can process in my mind, would you?
This entire issueabout Obama is insane at the very least. I never agree with anything that Ferraro says but in this instance she is right on the mark. Now it would seem that not only is Barack Obama immune from any type of criticism because he is the black candidate but now it is off limits to even mention that he is black or question his qualifications to be president. I guess poor John McCain’s hands are going to be tied, he can only expect to have criticism heaped on him daily by Obama but he will not be able to say even one bad word about Obama for fear of being labeled a racist. This whole race issue is out of control.
It is obvious if Obama was a white man with the same credentials he would not have gotten out of the first primary with a single vote, only because he is an black eloquent speaker is he in the game at all. Face it, a first term senator with zero experience. Come on, get real. If Obama is elected president this country is in for a rough time, he will surrender the United States to Al Qaeda just as he has promised to surrender in Iraq.
Good grief, I hope someone out there is intelligent enough to see through all of the PROFESSIONAL POLITICS verbage and scripted lingo. Never was a huge Geraldine Ferraro fan but at least she’s a politician that is speaking a little reality, a significant reason she was chosen for the ticket was due to her gender. A significant reason Hillary is doing well is her race/gender, a significant reason Obama is doing well (90/10 Black vote on some exit polls) is his race/gender, just as I’m sure a significant reason McCain is doing well is his race/gender. As much as we do or do not want to admit it or condone it or anything else…for SOME people it is a factor/strategy/etc to choose elected officials or runing mates…..America wake up.
Yes Hillary we all know where you and Bill stand! and its beside yet always a little further up on the podium than your people of color counterparts. Seems like you praise them when you need their vote, and discount them if they think out of your box, and vote for someone else.
Hillary, you have taught our daughters to stick with a lying, cheating man, for the sake of political gain , just think how that plays in the minds of young girls across this country.
Hats of to Hillary, the newest member of the good-ol-boys club! What can you think of next to further degrade the value of women?
The Madam of the plantation feeling the pinch.
Why is it that people now have to apologize for truth, no matter how ugly some people FEEL the truth is?
Hillary apologizes becauses it suits her purpose. She, just like her husband in 1992 and 1996, needs the black vote to win a general election.
Hispanics should take note that just as Hillary and Bill trivialized the black vote in south Carolina and all southern states where African Americans vote in large numbers, so too will they just as quickly dump Hispanics when it suits their purpose.
The end game for the Clintons is always power. Blacks should take heed of the old saying that “Fool me once, your fault, but fool me twice, my fault.”
In her 2000 campaign for the Senate, Hillary Clinton’s campaign demanded her opponent release his tax returns and even sent a staffer dressed as Uncle Sam to taunt him during campaign stops. Today she refuses to release hers. Makes you wonder what crooked and shady characters have been contributing to her funds.
Don’t be afraid Hillary, release your tax returns and let us vet you.
Hillary makes ridiculous claims that she is tried and tested in over 80 countries. As the wife of a visiting US President she simply tried and tested various tea and cookie offerings but she never negotiated anything, in fact she did not even have security clearance. By Hillary’s childlike reasoning this means Laura Bush is also tried and tested to be President or that the wife of a brain surgeon is qualified to operate on people!!
Hillary may have answered the White House phone at 3am but I am sure the callers always said CAN I SPEAK TO YOUR HUSBAND PLEASE!!
I think it is short-sighted to think Ms Ferraro’s comments are ridiculous or wrong-headed without reflection and without giving them serious consideration. It clearly indicates that some people are out of touch with the naivete of the American voters and the simple-minded approach many of them take to a serious business. It is very easy to stand in the pulpit and claim a more lofty reason for Senator Obama’s and Clinton’s success, but neither truly has a stellar record of any kind, Clinton’s self-proclaimed 35 years of experience notwithstanding. An ostrich with its head in the sand can see that a large part of their success is either race-based or sex-based.
It’s speaks volumes that Hillary chooses to apologizes.
I don’t see anybody has anything to apologize for. I am sooo sick of hearing the blacks playing the race-card every chance they get.
DO THEY understand they are actually crating more racism by harassing people like this?
We can only wonder.
I just know one thing for sure, (Sorry Hillary) But, I would NEVER vote for Obama NO matter what happens now.
White and proud Democrat.
Hillary’s husband lying under oath was a national disgrace.
Your finished you racist b!tch, im gonna win
Too little too late. Waited this long to say she was sorry. What a con artist, from tears to what ever it takes, she’s on the downward slide and is trying anything she can not to lose, how sad!
Enough is enough!!! The Clinton political machine is throwing the entire Democratic Party under the bus, with their campaign and political tactics. They are willing to divide our entire national party using the Florida and Michigan debacle for their self - serving interests. Both of those states should be focusing on removing the LOCAL Democratic and Republican officials that signed election agreements, and then broke their word to their national parties and constituents. This is not the type of leadership we can endorse or afford to have, if we are going to succeed in the general election against the Republican Party. We have to stand up now and not only fight for the future of the general election, but the future of the entire Democratic Party!!! We have to think, work and fight together right now, if we are going to end the dirty politics being forced down our throats by the Clinton political machine. When the Somalia photos surfaced, the Clintons first denied spreading them, and then acknowledged that it was their campaign workers in Iowa. Every news agency is now reporting the source of the NAFTA story originated from the Clinton campaign. The Clinton’s have continued to wage a sordid underground campaign, distorting Senator Obama’s religion and patriotism since the Iowa caucuses. Now the Clintons and their campaign surrogates are OPENLY trying to diminish Senator Obama, by using racial critiques. Is this the kind of political and moral leadership we want back in the Whitehouse? I have a daughter and a son, I am ashamed of the Clinton’s conduct during this election. Their behavior is unbefitting anyone who is truly proud, to be a public servant. Enough is enough!!! We have to stand together and fight now against this kind dirty politics within our party, or suffer the consequences this November…Our party needs you and everyone you know to stand up and participate now, if we are to truly “Change” politics in this country we love. The “Fierce Urgency Of Now” is upon all of us, and we have to stand together and act, as civilized responsible Americans!!! Our children are watching this nastiness play out, and they are watching our behavior. We truly need to look forward for new leadership in this party, and not back to the same old divisive and destructive patterns of our past failures. Please forward this information to every responsible American you know!!!
H. Smith
Ferraro is right, Obama would never have made it this far if he were white, or a Republican for that matter. Who would listen to a junior senator from anywhere if he wasn’t “special” in some way. Obama’s “special” status is that he happens to be black, so it becomes a spectacle. I also think there are many whites who are voting for him as a way to say, “look at me, I’m not a racist”, as some sort of misguiged attempt to make up for a past that was created by a relatively few people many generations removed from the present, and is sadly perpetuated by those who would profit from that past, rather attempt to make it on their own. The fact that we can have a black man make a real run for the presidency should prove that racism is effectively dead in the U.S., but it will never be allowed to die, as long as there is profit in it. It’s the same old slavery, but your so-called “brothers” have become your new “masters”.
Hillary, I know you and Bill put in many years of kissing up for the black vote & I can not wipe the grin off my face now that they have run off to the first black face on the ballot. Try to make up the difference with the latinos. I know you are not going to reach out to us “whites”.
Hillary Clinton is one manipulating piece of work….she is disgustingly amazing. What a perfect forked tongue she has in her mouth….wow….
Yes way to go Hillary, it took alot to appoligize once again for something you did not do nor did you have anything to do with, however I personally have to agree with Ms Ferraro, he would not have come this far or even close to it if he were a white man simply because EVERYONE would have said he is blowing smoke and has no clue about what he is talking about which he really dont if a black politition would say something like that about Hillary Clinton it would be just fine and no other mention would be made about it, and friends you know it is true.
Anyway I think Hillary did a good thing and I sincerly pray she is our next president,
The first two supposed apologies is just more of the Clinton’s lies to deceive voters and show them in a different light than they really are. More politics of the past. Deceit and lies about their political standing. The third statement regarding the Katrina debacle should be directed at the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and the Democratic Gov. of the state for their inept handling of the tragedy at the local level. So many prior storm preparations could of and should of been handles by those two offices as there was sufficient warning of the coming hurricane that they have only themselves to blame and not George W. Bush. An example that comes to mid were the parked and non used school buses that should of been utilized to evacuate people from the area before it got too late. Democrats need to be responsible for their own inept actions rather than try to blame everyone else and expect everyone else to be responsible bail them out. I am really tired of the world owes me attitude brought forth by the liberals in this country.
Anyone who buys this is an idoit. Hillary not only supported these remarks, she created them. Any level headed American knows that this woman would stup as low as you can go for a vote. In my opinion, she is dis-honest, deceitful, and can never be trusted in any level of government. She knew she could not make the remarks herself, so she sent out the sacrificial lambs to be laughtered. Anything and anyone for a vote. God help us if either of these two actual win. I like Obama, but with not experience in foreign affairs and terrible financial investments here, not to mention his support of abortion, I could not support him either even though I am a Democrat. Hillary is finished I pray and she can take Bill with her.
Hillary, I am a black female and I think that Geraldine Feraros comments were true. We need to take another look at this man. Something’s not right!
Hillary you are as gutless as the rest of us. Why submit to this kind of mind control? The feisty woman has an opinion. So????? If Obama cant take the heat let the little baby stay home in his church where his minister tells him each Sunday about bad ole Whitey. Look at what has been said about GWB? Maybe the guy picked the wrong field and for sure you need to do a gut check.
Hillary should have apologized after New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Now it is to late!
Obama 2008!
So much about Hilary’s experience ..
“I don’t know there was much she did apart from accompanying Bill [Clinton] going around,” he said. Her recent statements about being deeply involved were merely “the sort of thing people put in their canvassing leaflets” during elections. “She visited when things were happening, saw what was going on, she can certainly say it was part of her experience. I don’t want to rain on the thing for her but being a cheerleader for something is slightly different from being a principal player.”
Mrs Clinton has made Northern Ireland key to her claims of having extensive foreign policy experience, which helped her defeat Barack Obama in Ohio and Texas on Tuesday after she presented herself as being ready to tackle foreign policy crises at 3am.
“I helped to bring peace to Northern Ireland,” she told CNN on Wednesday. But negotiators from the parties that helped broker the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 told The Daily Telegraph that her role was peripheral and that she played no part in the gruelling political talks over the years
The only REAL apology Senator Clinton needs to make, is an apology for the way she and the former President has run her ruthless campaign at the expense of a divided Democratic Party and Nation. I think our courtry has finally seen the last of the Clinton’s in a political role, the weight of the ‘win at all cost’ evidence is overwhelming. We have had ENOUGH!!
The thing I and probably a lot of voters notice is the clean campaign that Obama and Clinton were running up until the point that Hillary started losing. I’m glad that Obama is above the mudslinging and dirty politics that Hillary is so willing to play. Hillary Clinton’s strategy is obviously to have her supporters say the things she really wants to say so when she’s confronted about it she can distance herself by saying “I didn’t say that, ______ said it.” People are tired of the old politics and the old politicians and are dying for someone new.
Nice to say… but it is too little too late. They have released a video Obama’s EX-pastor (who is retired) defending him and sounding angry. With one hand Hillary cries tears of sorry, and with the slight of hand keeping the tensions and the subject going. I am sick of her, sick of this campaign, and tired of America’s hatred.
The real question is whether anyone thinks that Geraldine Ferraro was actually helping the Clinton campaign with her comments. I thought she was supposed to be fundraising–not giving interviews to the media. If I were Hillary Clinton, I would be outraged at Ferraro’s ineptitude.
these comments just show a pattern of the evil and corrupt people behind her. she has more skeletons in her closet then a graveyard. and as far as katrina, why did the state of La. have the only complaints about fema? thins went fairly well everywhere else. the reason is the local and state goverment failed and was trying to get fema to bail them out and when they explained they were just there for support of state programs they were used as a scape goat cause they had no plan to support. as far as the levy, well anyone in there right mind knows you cant build one strong enough for a cat 4 or cat 5 storm. again the corp of engineers were scape goats. bill
How many times have the Clinton’s apologized during this campaign? It is obivious that they will say anyting, do anything, and then deny they did it, to try and win this race. Do we really want another four years of the Clintons in the White House. I hate to think so. Remember what they did to our military during Bill’s time in the White House. It is clear that they have no honor and no character. Is this who we want leading our country? Heaven help us, if that is what happens.
……the 35 years experience is all about how to take the whole nation for a ride… I don’t trust this candidate
If there is anyone that is a national disgrace, it is her (and her husband). I am pleasantly surprised to learn of her apology, yet realistic enough to know that it will be politics as usual for her going forward…divisive statements, back room deals, and blackmail (just to name a few of the cogs in the Clinton “machine”). I am utterly amazed that anyone would vote for her.
I’m sorry IF anyone was offended is NOT an apology! Why can’t politicians, and anyone for that matter, simply acknowledge the fact that someone was offended. They should say, “I know these comments were and are offensive to many, and I am sorry. Please forgive me.”
More shallow rhetoric from HRC. The Clinton strategy from early on in the campaign was to divide and conquer. Divide the African Americans, Hispanics and Whites. Create a racial divide creating a backlash that all the white votes would be cast for her. After the blood was red and deep HRC would be back to beg forgiveness just to get the minority votes in November. She continues to be one of the most polarizing, despicable politicians over the past 50 years. HRC needs to get over her notion of entitlement to the Democratic nomination and the presidency. The American people have more than enough Clinton fatigue. Hillary, we are disgusted with your deception, corruption and scandalous approach to all things for your own selfish ends. If you really do care about the American people and this country, then do us all a big favor and step aside and let the real work begin in unifying the party and healing the deep wounds of this country you and your husband have inflicted.
I think Clinton really owes an apology for the black voters, an apology from her is just right, black should accept her apology, even though other blacks are making racist still an issue, result did really shows, almost majority of them are voting for black candidates. Its really sad that its still present nowadays, I thought americans are strongly united. Since some blacks making it still an issue, in my opinion, others might thinking its an objective to bit someone who has an unfinished business for them.
Why? Why is it necessary to apologize for just stating the facts. Ferraro correctly pointed out that the ONLY reason that Obama is enjoying his celebrity status is because he is an elogquent speaker and he is black, a white man or woman with the same credentials would be just another person but Obama is a superstar, why, because he is black. It is NOT because he has any qualifications or accomplishments that would have propelled him to his current political standing.
Does this mean that if he is elected president then no-one in the whole world can ever mention that he is a black man or criticize his actions for fear of being labeled a racist? This is an absurd situation.
Hillary apologizes. Ho hum.
Due to the race card, Business is curbed………DOH!!!!!!
Regarding the APOLOGY, Congrats to Hillary Clinton on being a smart and skilled polilitician. She has however been missguided on several major issues and makes no apologizes or changes in direction for being wrong. She is not he kind of leader you want looking out for the country’s interests.
Perhaps this time the white folks need to do more than just a simple, (and insincere), apology. Perhaps New York’s Senator Clinton should do the honorable thing, just as the soon to be former Governor of New York is doing. She should resign from the race. If she is nominated by the super delegates, I have no doubt that in her acceptance speech she will invoke the name of Rosa Parks just after the Democratic Party has sent Barak Obama to the back of the bus so that this unpopular white woman can be seated, thus restoring the white liberal elitist sense of harmony in the universe.
Its too late to apoligize
The hypersensitivity of some who look for any opportunity to be offended combined with the ignorance and insensitivity of others, makes it easy for the media to fan the dimly glowing embers of past inequality and strife hoping for a ratings boosting flare up. It’s hard to believe that in the year 2008 that we still haven’t grown up and gotten over this stuff. I think the candidates have done the best they can to keep this poison out of their campaigns. For the sake of future generations, it’s time to put the past to rest.
Billary, Billary….tsk, tsk
Blacks have abandoned you and no amount of butt kissing will get them back.
So much for loyalty, huh?
Hillary is an idiot. The government took 3 days to respond to Katrina. Living in a hurrican area (Miami) you are told to have enough supplies to last 3 days before help arrives. Because the people of New Orleans are lazy, dependent on government for everything, prone to committing crimes, uneducated, they were poorly prepared. When are we as a society going to hold people accountable for what happens to them? Why couldn’t the citizens of New Orleans plan ahead and gather supplies to last them until help arrived? Aren’t they responsible for their own well being? I guess because the vast majority of them rely on government programs, welfare, SSI, unemployment and food stamps, they never bothered to plan for the disaster which they knew was coming days and days in advance. It’s not like Katrina snuck up on them without any warning. I can’t stand it when these political idiots blame the U.S. Government for failing the people of New Orleans. The local government and the people that live there failed themselves. The bottom line- Don’t rely on or plan on the U.S. Government to come to your aide and you’ll be more self-sufficient and have a much better chance of survival. The citizenry of New Orleans need only to point the shameless finger of blame at themselves, not the U.S.G.
democratic campaign is getting very ugly.
Here we go again just like with Bill, She will say whatever it takes. Remember she also said that she agreed that FL and MI votes would NOT count when they first held the elections early and knew that they would face consequences for the action. Flip Flop!
Oh boy, here we go.
She’s headed down the road on another crying jag.
Now if the apology mode doesn’t work what’s she going to use?
Hilarious. In her “apology” she still manages to try and associate Obama with Jesse Jackson. Nice smear.
what can i say but BO in ‘08.
Hilliary must think Americans are really stupid. Who does she think she is kidding?
I am White and against Obama. But that has nothing to do with his race. It has to do with his policy statements which I believe to be naive in the extreme. I will be voting for McCain because I do not believe in redistribution of wealth and a pacifist international policy and I do believe nothing can stop globalization and that lower tax rates have shown, beyond doubt, that they yield higher tax revenues.
Be that as it may, it is obvious that Ferraro was given the task of forcing race onto the agenda in the Democrat primaries. Why? Because Hillary knows she will not get the African-American vote (African-Americans will vote for Obama simply because he is African-American, without regard to what Obama stands, racism in and of itself, of course.).
So she needs to pry away any and all voters that are white and might have been persuaded to vote for Obama, even though he is African-American. What better way to do so than to have a surrogate raise race as an issue and therefore remind white voters that they should not forget their prejudices and get caught up in Obama’s rhetoric.
Hardly surprising a tactic, especially when one understands that The Clintons will say or do anything to win.
But I believe the American people, in general, are above such approaches. Obama need only say how sad it is that Hillary’s camp would stoop to such tactics, that he will not get into a discussion on race because he believes it is of no moment. What is important is the difference in positions and approaches—end of story.
Obama should win the nomination. But I would bet he will lose the Presidency because his issues and ideas do not hold water once the glitz and excitement are removed. Nevertheless, the Civil War will finally be over with an Obama candidacy and that is all to the good for our country.
In every community there are men and women who transcend communal cultural and other divisions to speak for all. Such people may be rare but they are the ones who give meaning to the term common humanity. They through their personality unite people who may otherwise be at each others throat. Such peronalities innclude Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi and Martin Luther King to mention a few. Without these people it is an open question whether human race would have survived this long on this planet. Without wanting to elevate Barack Obama to their level I can say without fear of contradiction that he has a little bit of them in him.
Hillary is the best @ pandering to her audience, she will say or do anything necessary to win. The Clinton legacy is ” take no prisoners”. Her marriage is a sham & this campaign is the same, the fact is we cannot afford her & socialist policies. Oil is $109. a barrel & she can only blame Bush, in fact it is her husband’s idiotic policy of no new exploration that got us here, let us be done with the Clinton, as Oliver Cromwell said”In the name of God-Go”.
Thanks Hillary you are displaying some real Big Girl stuff. If only some others could or would
step up to the plate and do the side and leave their egos and pride at the door. Again thanks.
everyone knows what ferraro said was true including you thats reading this but we must be politicaly correct. god forbid someone speak their mind. one more thing regarding all the bad press on law enforcement what if those men and women went on strike for 24 hours across the us would you let your child go to school or maybe the mall that period of time.we need to remember whats important to us but then again the look what we tell our youth by the way some of our athletes get paid and actors getting rich off being stupid.
As an African American female, I so wish the media would stop the over-the-top, irresponsible and wreckless coverage of ignorant statements made by those from a older generation that experienced race in far narrower spectrum, such as Jeremiah Wright, Geraldine Ferraro, on and on. Please stop it. Black people know there are those who think like this, whether they say it publicy or not. We are not outraged, surprised, nor hurt. On the contrary, we are embarrassed and many times ashamed at the divisive comments by some Black leaders, just as I am sure many Whites are when they hear the same. Please FOX News and mainstream media, do right by the candidates and the campaign and cover the race - not the racism.
I hate to say it but Ferraro was right. It’s all right there in the numbers……anyone who is honest with themselves would probably agree. I am also, not a racist. But I do agree with what she said.
