Democrats Around the World Weigh in on Presidential Contest
BRUSSELS, Belgium — Democrats Abroad based in Europe, Africa and the Middle East convened Saturday to pick their delegates to the Democratic national convention amid concerns about health care, economy and the war in Iraq.
About 140 foreign-based Democrats picked their regions’ six delegates to the Aug. 25-28 convention in Denver, which will nominate the Democratic presidential candidate.
The Democrats Abroad held a global primary in February to award nine delegates to the candidates. The other three delegates will come from Asia and the Americas, and will be selected next month.
Also, five more delegates will be awarded at the Democrats Abroad global convention next month in Vancouver, for a total of 14. Each delegate from the Democrats Abroad will get a half vote at the party’s national convention.
Sen. Barack Obama won the global primary, picking up six delegates. Sen. Hilary Rodham Clinton won three.
Saturday’s regional caucus was used to name four Obama delegates and two for Clinton.
Some 3,253 delegates chosen by the voters and nearly 800 “superdelegates” — elected officials and prominent party figures — will participate in the convention.
Concerns voiced at the regional caucus attended by Democrats from more than 30 countries mirrored in part the major issues of the national campaign, while also focusing on specific issues of particular concern to Americans living abroad, such as taxation or citizenship.
Clinton supporter Janice Thomson, who is from Chicago, said “health care was one of the reasons we moved to Europe” where it is much more accessible.
“In the U.S. if you lose your job you lose your health care. That’s terrifying,” she said.
In an amicable atmosphere, Clinton and Obama supporters disagreed about their respective preferred candidates’ universal appeal to voters and chances against Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee-in-waiting.
“Obama has a better chance against McCain, in particular because he has energized (a) large part of the electorate, enjoys supports among the independents and has even appealed to many Republicans,” said John-Paul Bernbach from New York, a manager working in Belgium.
Thomson cited what she viewed as Clinton’s superior experience on issues like health care and her concern about “that whole conciliatory approach” by Obama as reasons for her support of Clinton.
Clinton’s health plan care was turned down while in thier white house
days. And her health care plan will be costly for the american people.
Obama has a better health care plan.
“Democrats from around the world” sound more like “democrats from another planet”, if they think Sen. Obama stands a better chance of winning against Sen. McCain than Sen. Clinton does. The majority of Americans: that would be all Republicans and at least 1/2 Democrats will not vote for this racist anti-American, and you don’t know much about America if you think they will. Maybe you should check out the temperature here, before you speak on a subject of which you obviously know nothing.
The controversy is only continuing because you continue. Obama should be judged by what his minister says. He no longer attends the church but more importantly, we only have to look at this man’s life to know that he does not espouse to the same philosophy as Reverend Wright.
Fox and other news media ‘hounds’ need to let this go! It is truly the ’silly season’ in politics if this continues to be the ‘headline news’ each night!
Get on with the real issues and let this foolishness go!

Mr. Obama and his team won’t get out of this one. Mr. Obama’s followers are being deceived and much of the media continue to try to protect Obama and cover for him. One reporter said it best, there is no way, no way that someone can have a mentor for 20 years and say truthfully that you never heard this type of preaching, this pastor has encouraged and inspired Obama’s career aspirations, Obama had to know of his pastor’s views and he has heard it in the church and when the media purchases all the tapes from the past 20 years, the covers will come off of Mr. Obama. It amazing to me that some whites and blacks supporting Obama will try to justify his position (oh, that’s right they want him to win against all odds) so they enjoy the scales on their eyes and just don’t want to use common sense. Mr. Obama says he has the judgement to run the country, well with the associations that he has had in his life that seem to hate the USA and with his wife saying for the first time in her adult life she is proud of her country certainly brings into question the judgement of he and his wife. I don’t agree with a lot of things that go on in this country and I have had a hard life, but there is no place I would rather be than in the USA. I have changed my mind and will not be voting for Mr. Obama. I want a President and First Lady or Firs Man that without any doubt love this country even with all of our imperfections.

People now see OBAMA as a victim and voters will rally around OBAMA. OBAMA is honest, transparent, and trustworthy; he has the character to be president and the Clinton Machine, the media, and the Right Wingers want to stop him. The media continues to be timid in asking and demanding that Sen. Clinton release her tax returns, White House Records, List of Contributors to the Clinton Presidential Library, and her earmark requests since she became a senator.

If he finds the test results satisfactory, his plan goes in. The Senator, to summarize, is a master Strategist; he leaves nothing to chance.
He knows full well he cannot win in November, so for now he goes in as the Peace Messiah. Nobody even knows or suspects he is testing the waters.
The Iran hate America Bush plan was executed with perfection. After that Ferraro and the race conflict. Nobody can point a finger at him. He rides across the screens hands clean, the Grand Uniter, Peace Messiah. Inside he knows he is closer to his goal than the day before. He knows it perfectly well.

Obama should be commended for his ability to appreciate the good in people despite their flaws or certain of their beliefs. America needs more people like this.
Every ne of us is a mixed bag, as is America. We are all imprefect. America is imperfect. We all could improve ourselves. America could be improved in the same way.
One of the biggest flaws I see in America is peoples’ inability to get along with (and tendency to demonize) others who think or believe differently than they do.
We need a president who can promote tolerance of differences. We need a president who supports people for their strengths, despite their flaws. We need a president who doesnt divide and judge people on oversimplistic criteria. We need a president with the courage to see the world in more gradations than just black and white.
Jesus did just that. He was someone who encouraged, above all else, acceptance of others. He mingled with people regardless of their class or status. And he spoke against judging one another (in the sense of condeming someone).
Some things to think about.
Watching the Democrats this year has been more enjoyable than watching UFC cage fighting. The latter I do not watch. But, I am told it is a toss up tosee which is more violent. During election season, we can see peoples true colors. It has got to be embarrassing to be a Democrat right now.
Who is Senator Obama trying to fool? Now he wants to do damage control by denouncing his pastor, but he still attends church there. I am SHOCKED that it took over a month for Senator Obama to finally say something about his pastor. This is the same pastor that Senator Obama supports through his regular tithing! The Senator family donates thousand of dollars to this church annually. That means he support his pastor’s RACIAL overtones and revolutionary statements of overthrowing America. Who does Senator Obama trying to fool and what is he trying to hide? Why is he openly, freely, and devotedly donated all that money to a cause if he doesn’t believe in it? Why is Senator Obama lying to America? This is as bad as Senator Obama still accepting all that money from his crooked land developer that he supposedly hasn’t seen nor talked to in years? Sure doesn’t sound like Senator Obama a real devoted Christian man to me? Wonder who he and Michelle are praying to everynight? HE’S JUST TRYING TO DO THIS BECAUSE HE NEEDS THE CHRISTIAN VOTE! Good choice. Barack Obama has earned those votes. Regardless of how much you media (FOX) and his opponents have tried to discredit his ability to lead as a commander in chief by planting doubts in voters, Senator Obama is clearly a far better candidate for this nation. We need re-direction and that is exactly the reason why the majority of citizens who love this nation are choosing Senator Obama. It’s time to end the politics of FEAR and work towards setting and acertively achieving goals so we can succeed as a nation. There is no doubt that Obama is the right leader we have been waiting for.
I do not think Obama can distance himself from his church and that radical preacher.He could have attended another Church of Christ but chose one that speaks of hate and division. I think now that he shares these views though he would like to distance himself from those remarks for political reason. You choose a place of worship where you like the message that is preached as well as the messenger, whom he says is like an uncle;then of course a place you feel comfortable with and feel comfort from. I think this man Obama DOES share those views
along with his wife. I can no longer support him, we need to really think about who he is.
How much of Obama’s “campaign” is a “me too” variety. IE Hillary comes out with a detailed economic position speech and a few days later, the big O cones out with a very similar economic position.
