Obama’s Church Fires Back

The Chicago church attended by Barack Obama is fighting back against media coverage of its controversial pastor, issuing a statement on Sunday, saying reports on the inflammatory remarks by Rev. Jeremiah Wright are an attempt to attack “the history of the African American church.”

“Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.’s character is being assassinated in the public sphere because he has preached a social gospel on behalf of oppressed women, children and men in America and around the globe,” the leaders of Trinity United Church of Christ wrote Sunday in a statement distributed to the media.

Claiming that Wright’s 36 years as pastor of the church — the largest United Church of Christ congregation, with 8,000 members — is being demeaned, Rev. John H. Thomas, UCC general minister and president, said, “It saddens me to see news stories reporting such a caricature of a congregation that has been such a blessing to the UCC’s Wider Church mission … It’s time for us to say ‘No’ to these attacks and declare that we will not allow anyone to undermine or destroy the ministries of any of our congregations in order to serve their own narrow political or ideological ends.”

Neither Wright nor Obama was present at the church on Sunday, but all of talk news has been on the subject of the pastor, whose many sermons have been captured on video and replayed across television and the Internet over the past few weeks.

Some of the more flamboyant sermons have included statements saying that the U.S. created the AIDS virus to kill African Americans and that the United States was asking for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks because it had supported “state-sponsored terrorism” against black South Africans and Palestinian

Obama’s campaign has tried to distance the candidate from his Wright, the man who coined the phrase “the audacity of hope” that became the title of Obama’s bestselling book.

Speaking in a conference call on Sunday, Obama’s advisers acknowledged that the pastor was supposed to appear at the announcement of Obama’s presidential campaign last year, but was cut from the program in part because they knew he was controversial and didn’t want him to become a target or distraction, both of which he nows appears to be.

But even as attention is focused on Obama, Hillary Clinton’s supporters have refrained from pouncing on the opportunity to link Obama to his 20-year-long spiritual adviser.

“I mean, as you know, I prefer Senator Clinton for a whole lot of reasons, but I don’t cast aspersions on Senator Obama for what somebody else said,” Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told “FOX News Sunday.”

Calling Trinity’s social justice and outreach programs “inclusive and global” Moss added that not much has changed since the era of Martin Luther King’s sermons for equality. He claimed that African American churches, “born out of the crucible of slavery and the legacy of prophetic African American preachers since slavery” continue to treat marginalized victims of social and economic injustices in the face of prejudice.

“This is an attack on the legacy of the African American Church which led and continues to lead the fight for human rights in America and around the world,” he said, adding “The African American Church community continues to face bomb threats, death threats, and their ministers’ characters are assassinated because they teach and preach prophetic social concerns for social justice. Sunday is still the most segregated hour in America.”

Absolutely unbelievable….

Sen. Obama’s choice to associate, and subsequent choice not to disassociate during twenty years of repulsive preaching, is very relevant to his campaign to be elected POTUS. In this same campaign the charge was made that Gov. Romney may let his church be his guide to running this country (although it had no effect on his running MA). Do we really want someone like the Rev. Wright having close and personal, even confidential access, to the POTUS? I know not. Would we want David Duke, as an example, to have access to the POTUS - no way.

Sen. Obama wants to be transracial and cites a history of good judgment. This transracial judgment that joins him with a church that puts Africa (which is a continent, not a country) before this country, it chooses and promotes only black issues, this ’scholarly reverend’ marries them, baptizes their children and assists in writing his autobiography (should be ‘The Audacity of My Associations) and on a day for mourning 9/11 he blasphemies our country (but not, apparently, his country). This active association with Rev. Wright’s teachings clearly demonstrates that his judgment is not the ‘Change’ that We the People can endorse or associate with. We have not known who Sen. Obama really is, until now. Likewise, we have not known what his ‘Change’ was to be, until now. Sen. Obama may consider himself ‘holy’, but his background clearly spells ‘holey’. Sen. Obama is trying to close the sale on himself, and a vote to purchase his product is only buying the Jonestown Kool-Aid. The side effects of his prescription for change will felt by all. Those that would support Sen. Obama are those that only hear, see and speak evil of our country - which they denounce by their monkey see monkey do personalities. As for associations and endorsements - Sen. McCain should firmly and unequivocally shun Pastor John Hagee and his repulsive teachings. Moreover, politics and religion should not and do not mix - one should not endorse the other; it’s oil and water.

Need I mention his disrespect for our Flag and Patriotism? Need I mention his wife suddenly and for the fist time in her adult life, being proud of this (note - not her) country? Need I mention the association of his church, and by proxy himself, to Louis Farrakhan (there are no ‘ministers’ in islam)? Sen. Obama’s choices of association - his wife, religious mentor and religious mentor by proxy, are of great concern. Think about these things before you vote in your primary and then your general election. This is the greatest country; the good far outweighs any bad and surpasses every other country in Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness - our Freedoms. Don’t settle for undefined false ‘change and unity’; demand Patriotism - love and respect for you and our country. This is not just a country - it is my country, your country and our way of life!

I guess that all of his rants were taken “out of context” when he preached: God Damn America, AIDS was created to kill blacks by the gov’t, 9-11 was pay back for all of this country’s bad deeds…yada, yada, yada!

The guy is a sicko, and those that follow and believe his hate speech as sickos for buying that trash.

H E L L O !

It “saddens” the Reverend Thomas that such a caricature of this congregation has been attacked??

Attacked??? Do you mean reported on Sir?

Do you mean that what we see in these videos simply did not take place?

Was it all made up??

Did this image of Jeremiah Wright ranting against white America and damning America simply go by your radar while you sought other offenses?

Sir, WE ARE Offended!!

WE are offended with a congregation of any peoples who can shout “AMEN” while a so called preacher is spewing so hate toward the rest of America.

Wright was a Marine!!! What did he miss in the Corp? Did he forget about Pearl Harbor?

What the hell was he teachimh his flock in the name of Christ?

Rev. Wright, this church and Obama can deny whatever they want…the video of Rev Wright, his connection with Louis F. and the whole racist, anti-white attitude says it all. Obama should step out of this elections, shame on you, Barrack Obama for trying to put your :Black America” into play. You are no MLK and you never will be. He believed in equality not superior beings. This attitude reminds me of Hitler. Shame on you and your church.

What Obama says about 20 years with Rev Wright simply doesnt cut it. Its what Obama “DOES” about it. He’s still a member of the church. Go figure.

Comment by Wendell

c’mon, when are we going to let go. All this type of comments by this preacher or any other individual does nothing except continually fuel the fires of racism. I am a white man who has never been racial. Any racial bone in my body has been brought about by the ignorance of people like this man and any other individual who keeps racism alive.

Who is Senator Obama trying to fool? Now he wants to do damage control by denouncing his pastor, but he still attends church there. I am SHOCKED that it took over a month for Senator Obama to finally say something about his pastor. This is the same pastor that Senator Obama supports through his regular tithing! The Senator’s family donates thousand of dollars to this church annually. That means he support his pastor’s RACIAL overtones and revolutionary statements of overthrowing America. Who does Senator Obama trying to fool and what is he trying to hide? Why is he openly, freely, and devotedly donated all that money to a cause if he doesn’t believe in it? Why is Senator Obama lying to America? This is as bad as Senator Obama still accepting all that money from his crooked land developer that he supposedly hasn’t seen nor talked to in years? HE’S JUST TRYING TO DO THIS BECAUSE HE NEEDS THE CHRISTIAN VOTE! HOW CAN HE CALL HIMSELF A CHRISTIAN WHEN HE SUPPORTS A CHURCH THAT OPENLY PREACHES THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA AND CHRISTIANITY! GO TO HIS CHURCH WEBSITE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!

Comment by Mary O'Bryan

Of course the church is firing back. How come then, does Obama have to defend this raving pastor. The truth is finally starting to come out and the “truth will set you free”. America, wake up and smell the coffee. Obama doesn’t want his records out anymore than he wants Rezco, his pastor, earmarks, or anything else to come out for that matter. Doesn’t he know by now if, it’s negative information, all he has to do is look sweet and repute, denounce or deny it and the media won’t bring it up again. What a plague on all of us, the mainstream media. FOX is turning out to be more fair in this election than nearly all the rest. Come on media, OB’s not on the level on the Rev. Wright issue or anything else it now seems. He only speaks the truth when he gets caught in a lie or half truth. How much more is lingering out there for Republicans to mo-up the floor with him if, and that’s a big “IF”, he gets the nomination. God help us if he does! Our country needs “US” to stand-up for her now. Our future lingers in the balance of the impending primaries & general election. We need a President to restore our standing at home and abroad. We need Hillary, not inexperience and a very questionable past, and certainly not Senator more of the same, McCain.

Obama+Wright+Hitler=Un-Holy Trinity United Church of Hate. You should have your church listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of Hate Groups. Jews are “bloodsuckers”, Jeremiah Wright Jr. In the film clip today I saw a girl from the congregation, wearing a long bright blue robe, holding her hand and arm out, reminisint of the Heil Hitler during Hitlers reign. Reverend Wright said, “Hitler was a great man”. 20 years, tapes while in college. “Satan is a Lier” and so is Obama. According to Larry Elder author, “Stupid Black Men”, Obama is Lying, not telling the truth. Time and time again we see politicians getting CAUGHT lying. Obama will be CAUGHT too. There will be undisputeable evidence that will show up just like those tapes of Reverend Wright. Someone out there has a tape of Obama and Michelle inthralled in a demonic like fit of ectasy during one of Wright’s HATE sermons. I understand the “Conservative Black Church”. I attended on in Inglewood, California. Dr.Fredrick Price’s church. Never did I realize that there were “Hitleresque” type Hate Church’s like that of Reverend Wright’s and Obama’s. I was completely in disbelief. The fact is Obama has had Reverend Wright’s SEED of HATE planted in him for 20 years now. Wright’s SEED of HATE is going to FULL BLOOM out of Obama sooner or later. Probably after he get’s elected. He did not want this to come out. He would not care AFTER he was elected President, but it is out now too early and he is going to be able to ESCAPE the TRUTH about the HATE SEED, there will be evidence. There is no way that Obama is capable of representing the entire population of the US with it’s diversity. He is lop sided. His Church is more Satanic that Christian. His congregation acts as though they are whailing in Pergatory, filled with Demonic possession and in great need of an Excorcism. Obama has this very same hate flooded regularly live and in person and via tapes of his 20 years of close relationship with Wright and the Church of Satan he belongs to.

Typical apologist tripe: attack those who report the disgusting conduct (here, of Rev. Jeremiah Wright) and acquiesce in same (Barak Obama). I would say, “For shame!” but the “leadership” of the United Church of Chirst (UCC) has shown time and time again that it has no shame.

The coverage of this story has been such an enlightening look at today’s MSM. It seems as though the more “liberal” media is backburnering this story, while the center to right are giving this story its due course. I find it quite sad that the MEDIA wants to decide what the news is. What are people talking about? These inflammatory comments. Change black to white and he’d have crosses burning in his front yard.
He is allowed to make those statements (sort of, since he is doing it in a TAX-FREE arena, he is not supposed to be saying those things) but then I am allowed to express my opinion that it is unacceptable. I’d leave the church if my pastor made comments like that about any person, regardless of ethnicity.

Here we go again! PooooR Obama!! Any time a question is asked about Obama, he and his supporters cry RACEIST! Someone needs to tell the new-commer that the first rule for running for president is that ANY question is fair game. People need to know who the candidate is. Obama is really showing his true colors by NOT denouncing his association with Wright. He excuses Wright for what he characterizes as a “few imflamatory” remarks. I feel he is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He clearly shares, if not all, some of Wrights racist views but realizes that he could never be elected if his true feelings were known. His wife, on the other hand, has no problem showing her support of the Wright dogma as shown in her contriversal statements. There was a great african american speaker and authur on LPB a few weeks back who said that until african americans stop blaming white people for their plight, they will never succed. I believe this to be true. Our forfathers all had strugles but the black community cannot LET IT GO! I don’t remember this mans name. He had writen a book, something about Why a Black Man Cannot Be President. I would love to she him on Fox. His last name begins with a “S”

Not only does Obama have guilt by association with “pastor Wright”, he has also been in associations with “weather underground” Ayers and lets not forget “resko”. Obama has been a “Bad Boy”

Comment by Fred

Hate to be the bearer of bad news America, but this type of social political dialog is the norm in the black community. Rev. Wright comes from a time and a place when blacks didn’t have the opportunities that they currently have. If two old men (one white and one black) were to objectively paint a picture of American History, the portraits would be quite different.

I am very hurt and offended by the remarks of this so-called man of God. Then I had to remind myself that this is his opinion and everyone is entilted to their opinion and that is all it is. Barack Obama is a very special person I say this simply because the first time I heard him speak my soul was touched and I told my husband then that this man has the SPIRIT of DR MARTIN LUTHER KING. This is what the other news commentators was trying to figure out about him, when they would say,”what is it about this man”? well this is what it is. THE SPIRIT OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING and we cannot let what someone, in this case his pastor, who does leave a lot to be desired stand in the way of this history making event.

Thank You

So this church is now upset because the rev wrights words have been aired to the public??
If they think they and he are so right why do they care if the rest of the country sees what they believe in?
They know this is bad for their church and bad for their fellow member Obama
To spew the hatred that wright does is not in any form christianity
Has he ever even looked at the bible ?
To use the lords name in vein is one of the top dont dos
Yet wright thinks he is above gods wishes
He has spoken at the pulpit as has Obama to further his campaign and thats not smart either
The judgement BO has campaigned on doesnt look so appealing the more that comes out on his private dealings and friends the dumber he looks
So he listened to this nutbag for 20 yrs and never heard anything come out of his vile mouth other than praise the lord
How dumb does BO think the country is
He denounced the statements by wright but wont distance himself from the man well I guess that means he will continue a close relationship with him and the bomber and MO and Rezko

Dr. Wright’s ideology is stuck inthe 1960s. It appears that though America has
come a long way, Dr. Wright’s ideology is frozen in time. He needs to look at
America’s progress in race relations and acknowledge where we are today.

During the recent days, it has been quite interesting to see how issues have
arisen with regard to Barack Obama’s pastor, Dr. Wright.

Unfortunately, due to a history of racism in America, many ministers and
theologians in the African American community have taken the position that
places great emphasis on a black theology. This ideology is not limited to
Pastor Wright. It is more rampant than one might expect.

Having worked with inner city youth in New York for 4 years, I co-wrote a book
with my twin brother that addresses the subject of identity. Our book,
Uncovering the Hidden Stranger Within: Answering the Question of Identity,
deals with the mindset of individuals like Rev. Wright, who have developed a
reactionary Theology, that is not Bible-based. In one section of our book
(pages 28-34); we address this issue of the erroneous Afro-centric gospel.

It is our hope that this subject, having come to the limelight, will further
promote healthy dialogue to address this aberrant ideology.

I agree 100%, this a political game being played by conservatives whose racist agenda (rather they care to admit it or not) won’t allow them to conceive of a half Black man being President, and certainly not one who chooses to worship in a church that is unashamedly pro-Black. The sad things is these people cannot understand that being pro-Black does not mean the church preaches hate of white people.

When all political candidates have to disavow their church because another is not comfortable with the theology then Sen. Obama should. Until that time why is the media not hounding Catholic candidates to renounce their faith because their church systematically hid child molesters? Why is Hillary not being asked to explain why her church allows gay marriages, or McCain why his spiritual leader says vile defaming comments about Islam? Could it be that we know an individual congregant is not responsible for the words and deeds of a their church leaders. if you want to ask him why he stayed at thew church for 19 years, ask Catholic candidates why they are still members of their faith too?

Comment by John Scott

Amen! Amen!! Rev Wright has been portrayed as a monster, while foxnews, the so called fair and balance, right wing media, is perpetuating what was fought against in the 60s. Holier than thou are all over foxnews and the right-wing. Bill O’Reilly that harassed a producer was not aired over and over for weeks. Bill O’Reilly quietly settled out of court. If foxnews is fair and balanced, they should be attacking the cause of recession today, with $12B a month to Iraq. If this war was waged by left-wing, the president would have been forced to resign. Where is fairness when 47 millions do not have health insurance while few are pocketting billions of dollars sent to Iraq for the cronies of Bush and Cheney?

Sorry Obama. You already lost.

Thousands of Democrat voters such as my self, will never vote for you to represent the American people as their president. If it mean that we have to vote for McCain, then be it.
At least we know the man and what he realy stand for.

Comment by Joann Nelander

The news coverage is not an attack on the history of the African American church. That the legacy might be effected by these tapes is as it should be, as they are reflective of the attitudes promoted from the pulpit of one particular church, Trinity United Church of Christ. The words are the words of Pastor Wright as is made abundantly clear on the videos distributed by the church and not taken out of context. From the video, it appears the congregation agree with the pastor and encourages him.

News-wise, it is an important revelation. Consider the Rev. Wright is Obama’s choice as mentor, spiritual director, friend and “uncle”! To that add Obama’s stand on life issues (pro-abortion; apologizing for allowing Congress to allow Terri Shiavo her day in court which simply stated allowed Terri Shiavo the due process that every person sentenced to death on Death Row has, and Obama’s opposition to the the Born Alive Child Protection Act that requires that infants who survive abortion be cared for and not allowed to die through neglect)! You begin to understand who Obama really is. It’s frightening to think that people blindly reaching for “audacious hope” could elect a man of such dubious judgment. If he is such an innocent he would be putty in the hands of wiley leaders of Korea, Iran, China and Hugo Chavez (closer to home). Morally, he is blind to life when he is staring it in the face, how can he protect the life of a nation.

Comment by brenda king

More of the “we are the most persecuted” rhetoric - and Obama has lost my vote.

Not because he once attended the church - but because he continued to associate himself with it and with that pastor and had no problem with the sentiments until it became public knowledge. If he didn’t agree with it - he would have said so years ago.

Comment by james F

This is the United States where we have freedom of religeon. You can believe and say what you want. However, this is clearly a church slanted toward black advocacy. That’s fine, but, in my church we try to make everybody welcome and share the word of God, not the word of Africa or anywhere else. I really believe that most people of caucasian background have been trying to overcome decades of unfairness and horrible crimes against the African American Race. We aren’t there yet. But the fact that an Africxan American could be considered and has a chance to become the most powerful man in the world does say something. This church needs to get a life and try to find a way to celebrate diversity. Because, until they buy into it, other people no matter their race or background aren’t going to either.

Comment by Lucy Maxwell

The Church of Obama apparently feels threatened by all the media coverage. But, there is no way to deny what has been shown in videos. What their pastor said was said and he is naive to think that the general public is wrongheaded to be critical. If he had proof, for example, that the HIV/AIDS virus was developed to destroy Black Americans, he ought to provide proof. But, if he doesn’t, as he obviously doesn’t, then by saying such a stupid thing he showed a total lack of common sense.

Lastly, one thing is is certainly guilty of as far as I’m concerned: the pastor brought politics into the pulpit and THAT is something his God, Jesus Christ, never did. Jesus taught his followers to be obedient to government i.e. give to Rome what belongs to Rome (taxes). The pastor’s job is to lead people to God, not to spew his personal politics from the pulpit unless those politics agree with his Bible.

Comment by lemerJake

How could the media be so openly biased and mean spirited to air actual footage of this peace loving man of God? If they wanted to sink Obama’s ship the least they could do would be to make up some far fetched tale or create a negative add, but to show actual footage of this man is absolutely intolerable.

So, this helps Obama? Obama’s mistake is that he chose to join this church and stay there for 20 years.

Obama is finished.

I am for once not believing Sen Obama that he did not kinow this was happening in his church by Pastor Wright and now to have the church come out and still condon what was said sickens me and the attack they make about this country. If this was a white preacher that Hillery was going to church at the attacks she would be receiving would worse then what Obama is. I for one am still undecided but am finding it harder to believe and trust or even hope of change in a good light from Obama. For anyone to say it is taken out of context is trying to fool us again. IT IS WHAT IT IS AND THESE PEOPLE OR RASCIST>

i willnever be convinced this is the first time a sermon of this context has been preached at this church.if this is the type of preaching that is done in african american churches everywhere this nation definitly is in trouble.i was led to believe racism was brought on by us,the white race in america.this week i have learned a valuale lesson in history.now i know where obamas wife came up with her comment of ,for the first time she is proud of america.they say history repeats itself, are we as a nation going to slip back into the 1960s.lets pray not,and yes i mean pray, thats what we do in our church, and in our home.lets leave the politics for monday through saturday.on sunday,at church, let us focus on the lord

Comment by Dr. Dave

Umm…Geee..Nobody put words in Wright’s mouth. Nobody did a fake voice-over. White America didn’t conspire and drug him and hypnotize him before his sermons.

Honestly, when I heard his speakings I felt nauseous and wanted to vomit. This guy is keeping his folks down with sick conspiracy hate filled theories just like Frakkhan. Only by going to HIS church and pay attention to HIM they can find out the TRUTH. And this reflects on the sort of person Obama IS. It’s no wonder Barak wants to create “unity”. Look at the world view of his divisive pastor who preaches DIS-unity.

Suggestion: Obama, start at home and end the racism endemic in your provincial community before venturing out into America with false & empty promises.

I am concern about Senator Obama’s spiritual relationship with the Rev. Wright. I can not believe Senator Obama has explain why he won’t denouse the Rev Wright for preaching such destructive sermons. We the American People need to really take a serious look at this relationship and comments. It’s time to remove the HOPE for a moment and learn the truth.

It’s is not an attack on his church. Even though in this day and time we shouldn’t have a church that separates itself. It is about his rantings. 9/11, the aids virus, whites, and jews. What he said about Bill and Hillary Clinton. I don’t care what anyone says this man hates our country and has intense dislike of white people in general. I am a minority and was applaud by what he said.

you know, im white but from a white point of view, the black race is a bunch of WOE IS ME people. all they do is harp on slavery that we people of this era had nothing to do with. and besides that, they dont consider that their own people sold them out to be slaves for money, they were betrayed by their own people,so why dont they get mad at their side of the story.they are RACIST against whites . full of hate.its sad really. and also they dont consider the price their anscstors paid so they can enjoy a life in usa. or else they would still be in the bush, living in hatch houses. and naked. i pray that this is published here.

The good news about this issue is that the existence of black racism has finally been brought to the forefront. The double standard that has existed for far to long may finally be opened to the light of day. Having heard Mr. Wrights’ Christmas sermon in its entirety, the most I can say for it is I would never have thought such un-Christian comments and beliefs would ever be so forcefully conveyed in a Christian house of worship.

The focus of that sermon may not be representative of his entire career at the pulpit, but the fact his beliefs have had an affect on his congregation may have been demonstrated by the wife of Sen. Obama who has litte good to say for or about our nation, its people or traditions. The fact her husbands rise to power is the one thing for her to be proud of says volumes.

Freedom in America INCLUDES “free speech”.

It doesn’t matter WHO you are, or WHO you represent…. IF you exercise your right to speak freely….. and ESPECIALLY on a pubic platform…. you become SUBJECT to critiicism of the pubic… of WHAT you say and HOW you say it.

THAT is the PUBLIC exercising “THEIR RIGHT” to speak.
The “DIXIE CHICS”… had a lot to say about America and our leader… and they “CRIED”… we don’t like the criticism …. “I thought we had free speech”…. YOU DO HAVE FREE SPEECH…. AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE.

If Wright’s church, or Wright himself doesn’t LIKE what people are saying.
TUFF…. TOLERATE IT….. EVERYONE who is speaking criticism…. HAS A RIGHT TO DO SO.

The entire church can “SAY NO” to what they call “attacks”….
TOO BAD….. People have a “RIGHT” to speak, and a “RIGHT” to express an opinion, and a “RIGHT” to investigate the outrageous claims the church has made.

People have a “RIGHT” to be concerned of ANYONE who is promoting
the DAMNING ( which is condemning or call for the ruin ) of America.

And people SHOULD be VERY concerned if this is the views of this church and the INSPIRATION which has shaped the life of someone who is trying to secure the highest position in America.

I find it hard to believe that in 20 years Obama never heard any of this. We were victims of reverse discrimation in Calif. by a probation officer and a mother who was a retired judge. We did everything to welcome them to our neighborhood and could never break the hatred they had for white people. This is not only a part of Obama’s church but widespread throughout the black community across the country. The Clintons are a good example. We all know how much they have tried to help the black community through the years and look what they got in return. It seems the whites in this country are trying to suddenly prove that they are not discrimating by voting for Obama while the opposite is true with the blacks. I could never vote for Obama after reading how the cigar smoking man in Chicago decided to make him a senator and got Obama credit on issues many of the past legislators were working on years.

Comment by Ron Catapano

I haven’t seen anyone try to demean any group, church, or faith.

What I have seen is people pay attention to the words of a man whom a presidential candidate has claimed to care for and respect, a man he claims to have listened to nearly every week for many years, and a man who this candidate took into his campaign as an advisor.

To expect that the people a candidate for president depends on and surrounds themselves with would not be scrutinized is not a realistic expectation.

As has been pointed out, words have power, but I guess that’s only when they’re spoken by someone named Obama.

We have economy that is down, housing down, everything down, and if that is not a curse for aggression by the right-wing while loosing sight of domestic issues, tell me what it is? BARAK AND MICHELLE OBAMA HAVE LISTENED TO REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT FOR 20 YEARS.

THEY PRAY AND BELIEVE WHAT THE CHURCH PRAYS AND BELIEVES AS DOES THE REST

OF THE CONGRIGATION. IF THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE THE TEACHINGS AND BELIEFS OF THE

CHURCH THEY WOULD NOT WANT TO ATTEND THAT CHURCH. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE

CHURCH (PASTER AND CONGRIGATION) WOULD NOT WANT THEM IN THAT CHURCH.

BARAK OBAMA IS OBVIOUSLY LYING. HOW DOES SOMEONE WHO WORSHIPS AT A CHURCH

FOR 20 YEARS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN DOESN’T KNOW THE TEACHINGS AND BELIEFS OF THE

CHURCH.

THANKS “FOX” FOR YOUR CONTINUED COVERAGE AND SHOWING AN UNBIAS AND THOROUGH

COVERAGE OF YOUR BROADCASTS.

As originally written by C. Foster-Kyser:

I, like many Black Americans and those of other ethnicities I’m sure, find myself sadly troubled at the national media’s efforts to ridicule Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s statements and their doing so at the direct expense of Senator Barack Obama.

Journalists and TV media pundits alike broadcast his past statements as if they are truly racist and anti-American. What is truly sad is realizing that the truth makes our national media and hence everyday citizens become indignant. I have not read a single statement of Wright’s that was printed that did not seem truthful and based on factual evidence (save references to what God might be thinking as that is grounded in his own spiritual beliefs).

Is it not true that “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country still runs” as he said? Or that the United States has or is currently importing drugs, exporting guns and training murderers? While the Declaration of Independence was being written, Africans were still being shipped here against their will by Whites while Native Americans were being systematically killed for their land. We trained the master-mind of the 9/11 attacks and there have been unpublished (of course) accounts of our soldiers spending their days guarding drug lord’s poppy fields in Afghanistan instead of fighting in the so-called war on terrorism like they enlisted to do.

Is it not true that “We [America] have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards,” as Wright said? We have supported Israeli terrorism against Palestinians and we have and currently do give arms to and accept loans from countries committing horrible human rights offenses because it is good for our bottom line. We have interfered over and over again in other countries’ foreign affairs, acting as if our democracy (which can’t even hold a fair election itself) is so perfect. So yes, in many ways we brought 9/11 on ourselves. I am sorry for all the lives lost and there is no way to justify those attacks but in truth we have to admit what caused them, and we still have not. Why can’t we get it right: People in other countries don’t hate us because they hate democracy; they hate us because of our arrogant policies.

Wright speaks the truth in these cited “inflammatory” speeches/sermons as he likely does in countless others that would be “deemed” as not being so . If more members of the America press and TV media would stop sugar coating things, then maybe we would all would recognize the basic truth when we see and hear it. And then, we would not put Senator Barack Obama in a position in which he even has to denounce his truth-telling pastor because of silly politics and a media frenzy for the latest story that is not newsworthy.

In the eyes of the world and those of many Americans, the truth is America is not innocent. So let us as Americans not resort to inflammatory rhetoric when we are faced with the fact that we are not. Instead, let us seek to join with Senator Barack Obama on the path to becoming so.

The Truth Hurts!

In the capsule version of the Barack Obama story, his mother is simply the white woman from Kansas. The phrase comes coupled alliteratively to its counterpart, the black father from Kenya. On the campaign trail, he has called her his “single mom.” But neither description begins to capture the unconventional life of Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro, the parent who most shaped Mr. Obama.

Kansas was merely a way station in her childhood, wheeling westward in the slipstream of her furniture-salesman father. In Hawaii, she married an African student at age 18. Then she married an Indonesian, moved to Jakarta, became an anthropologist, wrote an 800-page dissertation on peasant blacksmithing in Java, worked for the Ford Foundation, championed women’s work and helped bring microcredit to the world’s poor.

She had high expectations for her children. In Indonesia, she would wake her son at 4 a.m. for correspondence courses in English before school; she brought home recordings of Mahalia Jackson, speeches by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And when Mr. Obama asked to stay in Hawaii for high school rather than return to Asia, she accepted living apart — a decision her daughter says was one of the hardest in Ms. Soetoro’s life.

“She felt that somehow, wandering through uncharted territory, we might stumble upon something that will, in an instant, seem to represent who we are at the core,” said Maya Soetoro-Ng, Mr. Obama’s half-sister. “That was very much her philosophy of life — to not be limited by fear or narrow definitions, to not build walls around ourselves and to do our best to find kinship and beauty in unexpected places.”

… “She loved living in Java,” said Dr. Dewey, who recalled accompanying Ms. Soetoro to a metalworking village. “People said: ‘Hi! How are you?’ She said: ‘How’s your wife? Did your daughter have the baby?’ They were friends. Then she’d whip out her notebook and she’d say: ‘How many of you have electricity? Are you having trouble getting iron?’ ”

She became a consultant for the United States Agency for International Development on setting up a village credit program, then a Ford Foundation program officer in Jakarta specializing in women’s work. Later, she was a consultant in Pakistan, then joined Indonesia’s oldest bank to work on what is described as the world’s largest sustainable microfinance program, creating services like credit and savings for the poor.

… “She gave us a very broad understanding of the world,” her daughter said. “She hated bigotry. She was very determined to be remembered for a life of service and thought that service was really the true measure of a life.”

I wonder how Obama’s righteous campaign and his pastor would have responded if Hillary’s pastor had made similar remarks. All Hell would have broke loose and there would have been riots in the streets. I wish Hillary’s campaign would unleash a firestorm over this. This is plain wrong. Call Crap, Crap!. Hillary needs to show these people for what they are and how they are trying to hijack the Presidency of the United States…
From a minority, a white, 51 year old male, in the south….

The only reason Obama is denouncing his pastor’s comments is in an effort to save his bid to be the president. If it wasn’t made public, he wouldn’t have condemned them. He said he wasn’t there when the comments were made and didn’t know about all of them; come on. If he’s lying now, what will happen if he were president.

When are you going to share this statement with your viewers? Also, when are you going to have African America theologians who are familiar with the history of the Black church and social justice ministries? If you’re looking for someone, Dr. Frederick Haynes, pastor of Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, TX is available.

Typical liberal claim: I have the absolute right to say anything I want about anything I want. BUT, no one can hold me accountable for what I say and no one can criticize what I say.

Well, ya know what! I think this wacko ought to be held accountable for EXACTLY what he’s said. And what he’s said is some of the most divisive, hateful, RACIST speech I’ve ever heard.

And if he’s the good Christian preacher everyone says he is, why don’t we hear the gospel of CHRIST? Preach THAT gospel and all the social unrest will subside.

Unlike the mainstream media, the Black Church has been a source of “unbiased” community news and political information for its congregation. The membership at lodge does not necessarily have to agree or disagree with the political statements of our ministers. We as a church community also pick apart what we hear and take from it what we need at any particular time. Personally, I have often disagreed with some of the critical statements I’ve heard from the many pastors I’ve listened to. I have, and have taught my children an understanding that we as Black people don’t all have the same life experiences. We have learned to listen with empathy to the sermons, yet not to internalize the messages as our own thoughts. Over ten years ago I left a church after being a member over 40 years, when the pastor continually preached about politics and not enough about God and Jesus. I was a member of this church before this minister came there, and I truly miss the religious fellowship. I’ve tried other churches, but even without the politics there is something lacking in them all.

I have had family members and friends preach religious and political messages that I totally disagree with, but I have never felt the need to disassociate with any of them. We simply agree to disagree and continue to love each other despite our differences. Most people, Black, White, etc. in my experiences have a love hate relationship with our “beloved country,” Depending on what’s going on at particular times we all can find things we strongly disagree with about this country. Black people in particular don’t have to search or reach far in our past history and some of the present political rhetoric to find hateful reminders that we were once an enslaved people in this country and that prejudice still runs rampant here. Despite our love hate relationship with our country, we know that we are truly blessed to be here in the greatest country in the world.

Have you noticed the irony of millionaire blacks raving about the slavery of their ancestors without which history they themselves would be living in a mud hut in Africa wondering where their next meal is coming from? How about a little critical thinking in place of emotional knee-jerks!

And FoxNews, please proofread your on-line articles - this one has at least two glaring typos. When you tell the truth (and you do) please don’t distract the reader with brainless blunders. O’Reilly would give you detention!

I am a Republican and as big a conservative as you will find. I think to hold Obama responsible for words and or actions of his pastor is absolutely ridiculous. I am Roman Catholic, should I be responsible for the views or opinions of my priest? I think not

Wright and Obama look a lot alike. Hmmm.

Comment by Geri Wiltshire

Obama is toast. He might as well pack his bags now. This evil minister that preaches hate and racism, is well known to those that attend that church, especially ones that have been there for twenty years. This scandal about Obama’s church shows that Obama himself either agreed with the man or used horrific judgment in attending that church.

I have always voted democrat, and I am supporting Hillary, but if Obama is anywhere on that ticket, I will vote for McCain.

If he were alive I guess Adolph Hitler should blame the Media as well, after all wasn’t he just defending the poor oppressed Nazis as well ???

Both Hitler and Mr Wright do have one thing in common though, a deep Anti Semitic hatred.

The guy’s an ignorant nut job.

Barack Obama has called this “pastor” his spiritual mentor and has been a member of this church for twenty years. There is absolutely NO WAY he didn’t 1) know the pastors beliefs and 2) agree with them.

Think about your own church and pastors views. Could you sit under his teaching and preaching for twenty years, and go as far as publicly calling him your “spiritual mentor” without having the same views? I sure couldn’t do it and I don’t think anyone else could either.

Someone is your “spiritual mentor” because you want to follow them and their beliefs, not because you want to learn to disagree with them.

The idea that he believes people are stupid enough to believe he didn’t know his pastors nut job beliefs and didn’t agree with them is not only not believable it shows his contempt for the intelligence level of his supporters and American voters.

Hatred is as hatred does, regardless of the color of the hater’s skin. Obama has lost my vote. I cannot vote for a man that has spent his life following and taking advice from those who preach hate and exclusion.

Heaven forbid that a Black minister or anyone for that matter would exercise their constitutional right to dissent and criticize America. America remains in denial about it’s racist, sexist, militant, genocidal, profiteering (anything for a buck) history. Deja Vu Vietnam - when the “Love it or Leave it” red necks wrapped themselves in the flag and did what they could to oppress the dissent of the real Americans. Americans who cared enough about the ideals of our founding fathers to exercise their First Amendment rights. Americans who opposed the dirty war in Vietnam. Americans who marched and protested for civil rights for everyone and were beaten and sometimes killed by ignorant racists. American women who were beaten and jailed for having the gall to demand the right to vote. I just wish Obama or Clinton or McCain would stand up and say it like it was and still is. Much of White America is hateful, sexist and racist. Too many Americans are still hateful, sexist and racist.

America is the number one arms merchant in the world. “Collateral damage” is just a euphemism for killing innocent people. Our military does engage in “state sponsored terrorism” either directly or indirectly through our proxies (e.g., Israel, or pick a dictatorship ally of America). If you don’t believe it, then get off your couch and go to Iraq, East Timor. or Israel and see for yourself.

Our not so lily white history of discrimination and violence is a factor in this election. It’s ugly, but it will continue so long as we deny its existence.

***SORRY PASTOR - YOUR VIDEOS ARE THERE FOR THE VIEWING - YOU PREACHED IT, YOU SAID IT AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO GET OUT OF IT, YOU REPESENT ONE SECTOR OF THE WORLDS PEOPLE, YOU JUST HAPPEN TO BE IN AMERICA ABLE TO DO IT. IT IS OK - YOU ARE NOW FOUND OUT AND BELIEVE ME, YOUR LIFE WILL CHANGE WITHOUT DOUBT. YOU WILL SEE HOW OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED RADICALISM TOWARD CERTAIN PEOPLES AND ISSUES LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.***All you have to do to preach is read the Bible, tell the people what Jesus said and teach them how to pray for their blessings. It is so easy to be a minister to masses. Jesus probably didn’t even wear shoes, I wonder the quality of your garments!!!

Comment by Gary Porter

How can a person who bases his campaign on change and UNITY possibly have anything to do with this church and their minister who spews venom and lies about our country and white people.
For us to believe that Obama has never been in church in the past 20 years while this hate monger said these things is to say the least , a joke.
How could anyone vote for a person who associates with this idiot?

Comment by Sense&Sensibility

If Democrats know what is best for them they will vote for Clinton in the remaining primaries. Obama can’t close the deal or prove that he can win a big state except for Illinois. This Rev. Wright mess is ridiculous. Obama has been associated with this man for nearly 20 years. His wife does not like the U.S. - she has repeatedly stated that America is a “mean” nation, that she is owed something despite her family’s million dollar yearly income, and said that this year was the first time she was proud of her country. Obama and his wife are huge, huge liabilities for not only Democrats but for our entire country. Republicans had their fun voting for Obama but I think reality is starting to hit a lot of them now and they are scared that they possibly had a hand in helping a man who is unpatriotic and unsafe for our country become president of the U.S.
The Democrats need to solve this mess by picking a nominee. The DNC, Howard Dean, and Nancy Pelosi are idiots. What they need to do is find a way to have MI and FL to revote. The voters also need to vote for Clinton whether they like her or not. Obama will be swiftboated by the Republicans for going to a racist church. And if he does end up winning the general, the Republicans have shot themselves in the foot by voting for this guy in the primaries and caucuses. Clinton is the best person to run against McCain and the best Democrat to do a decent job in the White House. Republicans and Democrats need to think about the future of our country. Please do not vote for Obama and let’s get this problem resolved asap. Pennsylvania and Indiana - I’m talking to you in particular.

What this man has done has little to do with social justice. This is an attack on America. I would be ashamed to have this man in my background. May God have mercy on his soul.

Actions speak louder than words and Obama’s response to these shameful comments by his long-time pastor are nothing more than words. Instead of touting “change we can believe,” why doesn’t he give us some words we can believe — especially since that appears to be all his campaign and political repertoire has to offer? To say that he never heard or didn’t know this type of polarizing, bigoted and hateful commentary came from the pulpit of his church is akin to “I didn’t have sex with that woman!” If he were so offended by these comments and the hatred they represent, and he is running on a campaign of change, why didn’t he do something about this years ago and change his place of worship? His passive acceptance of these acts can only be interpreted as tacit endorsement and his current rhetoric is nothing more than an eloquent ruse that quite frankly insults my (average) intelligence.

“This is an attack on the legacy of the African American Church”.

The “Reverend” Wright’s hate-filled comments are an attack on the legacy of my country. If Barack Obama truly was unaware of the tone of this man’s rhetoric after sitting in that church for almost twenty years, then he is not intellectually qualified to be the leader of this nation.

Comment by Just a concerned citizen

Obama is FULLY RESPONSIBLE for continuing to voluntarily attend that church with full knowledge of the racist, anti-American comments that animal made about the United States and its honorable citizens after 9/11 and throughout his 20 years at that church. Judging by his wife’s comments recently, it is clear that they think and believe the same as that animal. You just need to find a witness that will testify under oath that they have heard obama echo the same sentiments and/or that they saw him in the church on several occasions where the comments were spoken by that idiot, so-called “pastor”. If you get that, you’ll catch him in a lie and a character deficit. You should get a court order to gain access to the attendence records and see if you can correlate any of the dates to dates that idiot made any of those remarks.

He is NOT a viable presidential candidate for those reasons. He isn’t fit to be president of a stamp-collecting club, much less the United States.
