Schedule Puts Obama in Miami During July ‘07 Wright Sermon

Barack Obama issued a firm denial Monday to a report that he was in church in Chicago last July when his controversial pastor delivered an anti-white sermon.

Doubts were cast on the story Monday as records showed the Democratic presidential contender was in Miami that day.

On the “fact check” portion of Obama’s campaign Web site, the campaign states: “Fact: Obama Did Not Attend Services on July 22.”

Click here to see the denial on Obama’s Web site.

Reports circulated over the weekend that Obama had attended the fiery sermon that day by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. But a copy of Obama’s schedule viewed by FOX News as well as video of Obama speaking appear to place him in Miami that day at a convention of the National Council of La Raza.

A National Council of La Raza official recalls Obama arriving on time that day for a 1:30 p.m. event that was part of the group’s annual national convention.

It is not clear whether he might have been able to attend church in Chicago before or after flying to Miami for his appearance. The National Council of La Raza official told FOXNews.com he was not involved in any travel plans for Obama to arrive at the convention.

Speaking with reporters Monday, Obama declined to field new questions about Wright. In what is campaign is billing as a major speech on race, Obama said he would in part discuss how some issues are being perceived inside and outside the black church community.

Obama again said he condemned the controversial statements by Wright that had come to light, but he believed the media frenzy has taken a wrong turn on its coverage.

“I think the caricature that is being painted of him is not accurate,” Obama said.

Obama in the last few days has denied being present for any of Wright’s inflammatory speeches at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Wright retired last month as senior pastor.

Obama’s purported attendance at the sermon was first reported by NewsMax.com freelance reporter Jim Davis; it was noted again Sunday by NewsMax.com writer Ronald Kessler.

Davis reported last Aug. 7 that Obama and his Secret Service detail had been among the parishioners attending the July 22 sermon in which Wright spoke of the “United States of white America” and blamed the Iraq war on “Bush administration bull—-.”

NewsMax issued a clarification Monday to its story, adding that Davis stands by his reporting that Obama attended a service in July fitting the description he first reported, but he no longer was sure it was on July 22.

The report was advanced Monday by columnist Bill Kristol, a FOX News contributor, in his weekly column in The New York Times. Kristol cited Kessler’s report as evidence that Obama is not being fully candid about his relationship with Wright. The New York Times later published a correction to Kristol’s piece.

Click here to read Kristol’s column in The New York Times.

Wright’s comments in the July 22 sermon were mild in comparison to other sermons he delivered, sermons Obama has said he did not attend.

In one sermon Wright repeatedly said, “God damn America”; in another he blasted former President Bill Clinton, saying he “did” blacks “just like he did Monica Lewinsky.”

Following mounting pressure last week, Obama denounced Wright’s words, and Wright stepped down from Obama’s African American Religious Leadership Committee.

Obama told FOX News Friday that he condemned the text of Wright’s controversial sermons, in which he condemned the United States as institutionally racist and blamed the government for HIV and the Sept. 11 attacks. Video clips of the sermons were played in heavy rotation on national television late last week.

“Once I saw them I had to be very clear about the fact that these are not statements that I am comfortable with,” Obama said. “I reject them completely — they are not ones that reflect my values or my ideals or Michelle’s.”

Obama called Wright’s remarks “inflammatory and appalling” in a written statement Friday.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has yet to comment on the matter. Clinton faced heavy criticism over a racial issue of her own last week after top campaign adviser Geraldine Ferraro said the only reason Obama had gotten so far in the presidential campaign was because he was black. Ferraro resigned from the campaign’s finance committee shortly after her remarks.

Obama is a lier. Obama needs to step down so the democratic party can unite, Obama the diverder. Obama surely is for change, surely is a different type of politician.

Everytime Obama opens his mouth he subtracts from the sum of human intelligence. Anyone that believes this fraud is living in a fantasy world. The Dimocrats have blessed us with two of the sleaziest candidates in history. Thanks guys and gals (Pelosi, Dean).

Much Appreciated.

Vote McCain

Comment by Dennis Strickland

Well, he was a member of that church for twenty years. He stated he never heard those sermons or knew of them until recently. I firmly believe he is lieing. And a bad liar at that. He needs to step down.

Comment by JerryZ

That’s why McCain is having a hard time with the conservative republicans. They don’t like pastors or anybody that don’t aligned with their beliefs.

I truly believe they make themselves pro American but, they do not follow some American ways. They chose to tear people down just by association, not talk about issues.

O.K. I hold them accountable for this war and the poor economy because they voted for Bush and/or because they are republicans. They aligned themselves with a poor candidate and it’s a problem with me and I’m sure with most Americans. I question their poor judgment and their association to Bush. Your judgment put our troops in harms way. I’m sure most Americans feel the same. The war was not wise. You need to explain your screw-up!
Stick with issues. Sounds so ridiculous. It’s like Robin Givens should be the heavyweight champion of the world because she was married to Mike Tyson.

You conservative renounce and reject your president and party for poor judgment. That is the big issue.

The media is trying to condemn Obama for their mistakes. Get your facts straight! Obama would have every right to sue for this!

Comment by Bryan

I think we all knew someone would find that he was at some of these sermons. I’m sorry but 20 years, this guy knew. He is so typical politician its not even funny. America will be better off with McCain or CLinton…say no to Obama!

Listen up folks. One look at the world that George W. Bush has left us should be a warning to stay the course and elect the Democrats. Revenge? Class Warfare?

You bet cha it is.

Enough is enough of these people who have sold the USA out every which why they could to make money for themselves.

And they called Benedict Arnold a traitor. George W. Bush makes Arnold look like a patriot.

We should be in a depression in a year and don’t let the scum who have put us here tell you otherwise.

This is why most Americans don’t trust the media! Wright is not running for President Obama is. Get off of this topic and start reporting on the views of the candidates that matter to the public. It is obvious that this type of false reporting is meant to cause chaos and is dishonest. I don’t want to hear anymore comments about how Obama has had it easy with the press. He has gotten more negative press in the last two weeks than Hillary has her whole career. Give it a break and start being unbiased in your reporting.

It is shameful to have someone that is supose to be a man of God behind the pulpit
saying things against this great nation. I served my country and was proud that God
gave me that chance. This country was founded on the WORD OF GOD!!! I will continue
to pray that the Fear of God comes back in the people of this country. I do not understand
why Mr. Wright is being jumped on this way, he has not done anything that is any worse
than Hussein Obama has done. When he lied about being a muslim and the fact that he
will not place his hand over his heart and face our flag and not want his middle name used.
One think that can not be taken away from anyone is the ability to have an opinion. My
opinion is that Obama is not patriotic he is a muslim and if he chooses to be a muslim then
he should leave this country and go to a muslim country and live.

Comment by Bette

Goes to show what I have been saying the whole time. This man should not be running period. I don’t understand why people cannot see through this person. The middle east is just salivating waiting for us to elect Obama. Wake up people. You are lambs being lead to the slaughter. Just because he is a new face with a new slogan. He really knows how to market himself and the sheep are just following the crowd. He has only been a senator for 2 years. What gives him the experience to lead the worlds strongest country? For 20 years he has been listening to the reterik of a racist. How do you think the muslim children get to a point in their lives where they think it is okay to blow themselves up in the name of Allah! They listen to the reterik of extremists. Wake up American or we are going to get a very rude awakening!

God Bless America and I will put my hand on my heart when we say the pledge of allegience or our National Anthem is being sung or played.

Comment by Jon

You know how its ashame how people make up lies like that. Its obvious for the last 4 years he probably was not at church do to the senate. And none of the white reporters denounced and repudiated Imus for what he said. Hannity didnt denounce his racist friend Ann Coulter, and Mark Furman. You know what, Republicans are just a bunch of high school drama queens. Just when they arent winning, they try to lie and destroy you to win the pagent. Republicans, please act civilized and decent, and oh yeah leave obama alone. thanks

Comment by Paul

Will we be getting an apology from Bill Kristol for his inaccurate reporting of the facts? This is the type of journalism that causes most Americans to distrust the media!

Comment by Mariann Pepitone

I just read the column regarding Obama’s pastor and both of them were in Miami at the time. Obama’s pastor is anti-American, a racist and Obama, running for the presidency of this country should distance himself and his family from that church altogether. Obama knew what kind of pastor he was so why would he stay at that church for 20 years. Is Obama hiding the fact that he himself don’t like white people but just uses them for his own advantage? I think so. This should be a good wake up call black and white people who voted for him. Anyone that makes remark’s about this country should be deported ASAP. And our government should take steps to deport Wright to another country. I was born and raised in this country and this is the greatest country in the world.

The comments by this minister are very troubling. This is not excusable behavior. He is just feeding the problem of racism

Comment by merkan

You have to accept Obama “denounced” his mentor but stressed up he will continue being a member of A CHURCH THAT PEOPLE HATE WHITES? a church where the Pastor inspire HATE and not love? a church that praise BLACK PEOPLE? Churches with members show excitement with HATE, making negative comments, criticizing people, with feelings of revenge ARE CALLED SECTS. Is Obama worshiping really Jesus Christ believes? Is he really Christian? He is lying he has agreed with Wright to reject his comments JUST IN PUBLIC but from the bottom of his heart, JUST PRETENDING TO DECEIVE US THAT HIS MENTOR TURNED RACIST OVERNIGHT. Please!!! Now make sense why he doesn’t respect the flag neither sing the American Anthem, his PASTOR MENTIONED HE DOESN’T SING ” GOD BLESS AMERICA” instead he exclaimed “God Damn America.”

What kind of spiritual advisor is this Pastor Wright if I only see an EVIL SPIRIT IN HIM?

Comment by Parco

You guys in fox news are so unfair with obama. You hate him and try to really make him look bad. You just keep on reporting bad things about him and it is not fair. Focus on the issue that matter. Obama is the only one that has tried to run a clean campaign but you agents of fox news just don’t like him and it is not fair.

Comment by Greg

You have reached a crossroads Senator. Do you continue to represent the selfish needs of your handlers and those parisites that surround you in the political arena or do you take this opportunity to back your Spiritual Advisor and to lift your church and the entire congregation of its memebers to the level that God has made available to you?
So far you have not supported your church. How does it feel to turn your back? You don’t have to feel that way. You can show the world the good things your church has done, but you can’t do it in the atmosphere of greed and corruption that surrounds the political face of selfishness. You are in a place that can allow you to bring your church closer to our God and Father in the name of Christ. God Bless you Barak…this could be your greater Calling.

Comment by Susan

In 20 years I would bet that Obama attended at least one of the preachers hate filled rampages. A year ago there was talk in the Obama camp that this would be a liability at some point. The current distancing is too late. We all know that this was his “spiritual leader” for 20 years. Quotes from Obamas book echo the attitude of Pastor Wright.
Quote:

From ‘Dreams of my Father’, “The emotion between the races could never be pure, even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race (WHITE) would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart.” Barack Obama

I do not want to see this man in office, and would not want to if he were white and the above quote was reversed. His mindset is not about “Bringing a nation together” it’s more about dividing and conquering.

Fox, please stop reporting information that is proven to be lies. Obama was in Miami and video proof confirms such. Newsmax is a so-called online news service that is bankrolled by two known Republican hacks. This entire article is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to paint a picture that is not true.

In your logic, you say because one reporter said it and two others referenced this reporters words, it is true. Is there not some sort of law against publicizing knowingly false information? Seriously, I expected at least some sort of professional journalism on your part.

You should retract this article now.

Comment by KERRY

I don’t think Obama should be held accountable for what his former pastor has said. I attended a church for years and I had a pastor that said things from time to time that weren’t the most pleasing but I was faithful in attending the church because I liked the church itself and I endured the pastor until I couldn’t take anymore. Me going to that church at the time doesn’t change the good person that I am. Doesn’t make me any less of a good person.

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,”

Just Words?

“God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”

Just words?

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.”

Just words?

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”

Just words?

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, “I don’t think my church is actually particularly controversial.”

Yes, just words.

Sooner or later someone is going to be able to place him in the church when hateful speach against America had been spoken. Its just a matter of time. Then what will Obama say? He claims that words matter, well then his pastor’s words matter. Everyone is forgetting about the quote were his pastor tells him that if he becomes the nominee he will have to distance himself from him. So that just goes to show that Obama did know about what his pastor had said and he is clearly trying to mislead the American public.

Your ability to keep a story going and going amazes me. Foxnews bias is causing myself and others to remove your channel from my programmed favorites. This does not have anything to do with all of the stories about the scandals that both Clinton and Obama seem to find themselves in but more about the obvious rating games you are playing. News at any cost, did you ever think you might just be seen as the “Negative News Network”? You seldom find the good in others and are busy destoying the hopes and dreams of America by your style of news. And with this last email to your news organization, I am removing Foxnews from my viewing and reading schedule. So Long……….

Comment by John

Obama acknowledges he saw the videos a year ago, yet he kept Rev. Wright on his campaign for another 12 months. Curious…so his opposition to the comments is so strong he fails to act for a year. If he truly deplores the divisive message, he will call on Rev. Wright to publicly disavow what he said and apologize to the American people and Hillary in particular.

Comment by Jeff

It does not matter to me if Obama was present at the sermon that day or not. He has been a member of this church for multiple years, and you cannot tell me that this very outspoken man who calls himself a man of God has only been this outlandish with his comments and sermons and his rhetoric about race and this country, on the date in question. Barack Obama must have known what type of man he is and his views, and HAS CHOSEN to remain a member at his church. What is done in the dark will always come to the light! Rethink OBAMA!

Comment by Don Tworowski

Would it not be a simple matter to verify the Secret Service detail logs to determine Obam’s schedule for the day in question.

THE MERE FACT THAT OBAMA IS EVEN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MAN WHO CALLS HIMSELF A ”PASTOR” IS ENOUGH TO PROVE TO ME THAT OBAMA STILL HAS TOO MANY SECRETS…THIS, ALONG WITH HIS LACK OF EXPERIENCE, IS IT REALLY WORTH THE RISK TO PUT HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE? I HAVE A STRONG FEELING IF HE MAKES IT, IT WILL COME BACK TO BITE US. THINK ABOUT IT.

GO HILLARY….WE KNOW EVERYTHING WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HER….OF ALL OF THESE RUMORS ABOUT OBAMA, THERE HAS TO BE SOME TRUTH TO SOME OF THEM….MAKES ME TOO UNEASY TO PUT HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

A nice case of bad journalism and typical partisan opportunism by the smiley-faced Kristol. Shame on you all, gentlemen. This is why so many of us “average citizens” have so much disdain for the press. Comment by Helene Pines Richman

Aside from the obvious fact that Mr Obama’s so-called denounciation has come far too late, like much of everything else about Mr Obama, it is “just words”. In fact, there is little real distance. In a fit of blinding arrogance (blinded by his own light one suspects), he continues to be a member of the church whose leadership is vociferiously supporting Mr Wright. Even Oprah Winfrey left the church years ago. Quite how seemingly intelligent people (if has-beens) like Bill Bradley can not only continue to support Mr Obama, but also downplay the significance of Mr Obama’s close association with Wright and continued desire to stay with his church, is inexplicable. More to the point, it is terrifying to think there is still some chance that this person, nothing more than a spoiler, with the oratory skills of an accomplished African American rable rouser (now we know where Mr Obama honed his craft) has a chance of being the next President. If he were truly an honest and fair-minded politician, he would have waited to earn his stripes. Say about 8 years in the Senate. The U.S. would have had ample time to find out who he really is and what he will bring to the country. In that 8 years time, if his record spoke out for him, there is no question that the country would elect him. And no one would have dared to raise the issue of race in such a campaign because it would have been irrelevant.

For the good of the country, it is important that Mr Obama’s candidacy be stopped. If in the fullness of time, it becomes apparent that he is the shining star he says he is, he can run again (despite what Mrs Obama says).

Comment by Nathan

I find it hard to believe that someone who attends a church, for as long as Obama did, couldn’t see how prevalent Mr. Wright’s fervent anti-American and anti-white beliefs were. Further more, placing someone like that as apart of your campaign doesn’t bode well for our America vying Obama’s election bid.

Comment by peterd

La Raza means the race, and is a hispanic group dedicated to furthering their cause as an ethnic group. They believe they have a right to reside in the US and that in fact most of the US actually belongs to them. So Obama speaking to them makes sense, as he is very ethnically oriented himself, though he tries to hide it. Even if he wasn’t at that sermon (and we don’t yet know that he wasn’t), he was at many others. He always knew what Wright was like (must have known). They are pals. IMHO, this disqualifies Obama from the presidency. The last thing we need in the Oval Office is a reverse racist.

Comment by Mike

This proves that whether you support Obama or not…FOX News needs to get off of it’s ass and do a better job of journalism..

This whole discussion is ridiculous. When I was a college student at a Baptist College in the south during the 60s, my white religion professor use to lecture us during the riots — “burn baby burn, burn some more” I listened to him for a whole semester. Does that mean I can’t be elected president of the United States?

Comment by Mary

Get your reporting accurate before you start putting things out there that are false. I thought you were fair and balanced.

Comment by Barbara Armstrong

it is just really hard for me to believe that after attending a church for 20 years that you are not really in touch with your minister’s beliefs, feelings, and ideals. Even if you miss church occasionally I don’t really think that the preacher would preach this kind of sermon only if you were not there.
If there were any doubts about Obama not knowing any of this, Michelle’s former statement about America would remove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Brad Randolph

The next U.S. president will inherit a 10 trillion dollar National Debt (China and United Arab Emirites owed 1.5 trillion each and borrowing 1 billion per day from China), an unnecessary war costing 12 billion dollars per month, global warming which will only be mitigated 30 years from now when the world runs totally out of crude oil. …and yet FOX news dwells on trivial crap like what the x-pastor of a presidential candidate has to say. Oh and by the way, pastor Wright was right about America bringing 9-11 on itself. Are we supposed to believe that Akmed and Mohammed were just sitting around cave looking for some mischief to stir up? They flew those planes into buildings killing thousands of innocent people for a reason. I wish that Barack Obama were a Moslem who thought like pastor Wright. Could you think of a better candidate to stop these fools who are plotting to KILL US right now? Grandpa Johnnie “Rambo” McCain is going to be just as successful as that cowboy who now occupies the Oval Office. Bin Laden promised to bankrupt America and from where I’m sitting, he’s well on the way to accomplishing his mission. Now more than ever, we need a brown skinned president to show the world that America is ready to turn a new corner and behave itself. His name will also add to his credentials. Like I said too bad he’s a Christian and not a Moslem.

Comment by Ted R.

This is just another classic example of conservative reporters (Kristol) trying to do harm to Obama’s campaign. Kristol, like Limbaugh and Coulter, want Clinton to get the nomination so McCain would have a better chance in November. It’s a win-win situation for them; even if Clinton beats McCain, the conservative pundits will be given reason d’etre and have four years to attack Clinton with both barrels. One word of warning: job security is not a good reason to risk the chance of four years (please God, no more than that) of Hillary in the White House.

It defies reason that Senator Obama had no clue as to this man’s comments and attitudes towards America and specifically white America. What’s most disturbing as a parent is the fact that the Obama’s allowed their young girls to be a part of this anger. How could a member of this church leave with feelings of unity after speeches like that? Stirring up racial hatred is disgraceful. This cannot be the President for all of America. We’ve been hoodwinked and bamboozled.

Comment by Rita Soignier

Correspondent Jim Davis attended a service at the church during which Wright referred to “white arrogance” and “the United States of white America.”

The church members in attendance that day included Obama, whose book “The Audacity of Hope” takes its title from a Rev. Wright sermon.

Among Wright’s controversial assertions, he has blamed the 9/11 attacks on American foreign policy, claimed Zionism has an element of “white racism,” used “middleclassness” in a derogatory manner, and blamed the “white arrogance” of America’s majority for the world’s woes.

The mainstream media showed that it recognized Newsmax’s lead in covering this story when the Wall Street Journal featured an opinion piece by Newsmax’s chief Washington correspondent Ronald Kessler in its March 14 edition.

The article disclosed that Wright had delivered a sermon blaming America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs, and creating a racist society that would never elect a black candidate as president.

Kessler also reported that Wright’s church gave a lifetime achievement award to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has called whites “blue-eyed devils.”

Kessler declared: “The media have largely ignored Mr. Obama’s close association with Mr. Wright. This raises legitimate questions about Mr. Obama’s fundamental beliefs about his country.”

Has Fox News been at any time a respected credible news organisation? I get the feeling that the reports about Fox are true, that you are just a biased organ of the right wing political spectrum. The record shows (as well as the facts) that Obama was in Miami at the time of Wright’s controversial sermon yet, you chose to to feed speculation by publishing that ‘they are reports`’ of Obama being in the audience on that day. But of course in your case ‘the reports’ about you are seemingly more and more, backed up by facts. It is also strange that in regards to many of your Obama critical articles there’re often ‘no responses’ or ‘no comments’ in the comment boxes, especially when we know that several hundred and thousands of people have responded. Do you only print comments that are non-critical of your editorial views?

Comment by Bobi

I think what is appaling is that none of the news agencies have bothered to check out and report on Obama’s past. If any candidate were friends with David Duke, the news would have been screaming RACIST from the rooftops. Racism is not exclusivly white. This pastor and church are racist, actively stirring up hate between the races. Obama could not have possibly been ignorant of the church’s role in the community. Read the churches web page for its mission. You lay down with dogs — you get up with fleas. Obama worked through this church as a community activist for 4 years — what type of activist was he? Did he as his mentor does stir up racial tensions? Or was he activly trying to join all races together? How about a report on this time in his life? What about his role as director of the Woods fund? Did he not know that he signed off 75,000 to known and admitted domestic terrorists? (weathermen) I think if this man is running for president of this country it is the MEDIA’s job to help us understand the background and affiliations of each candidate. Hope and change is fine, but what is it that makes the man tick?

OBAMA IS FINISHED! IF HE HAD ANY BIT OF SENSE, HE’D STEP DOWN AND ADMIT THAT HE DID HIS BEST TO PROLONG ANY OF THIS TRASH COMING OUT ON HIM, AND BY DOING SO, FOOLED THOSE EARLY STATES INTO VOTING FOR HIM. WHAT A DISGRACE HE IS TO THE BLACK COMMUNTIY AND REST OF THE VOTERS OF THIS COUNTRY. HE DOES NOT QUALIFY TO RUN IN ANY OFFICE MUCH LESS THE PRESIDENCY AND IF, HE HAPPENS TO CONTINUE TO PUSH HIS AGENDA OF LIES, AND WINS THE NOMINEE, I HOPE THE DELEGATES KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE GIVING THE ELECTION TO MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER IF THEY DON’T REMEDY THE DOOPED VOTERS OF THE EARLY STATES BY STOPPING OBAMA.

Comment by Susan

Whether he was there or not leads me to ask two questions.

If it’s true Obama knew nothing of the controversial sermons, then does that mean Obama is easily fooled by people like his pastor and Tony Rezko.

If Obama knew and I suspect he knew at least as early as when he announced his candidacy for President because the Pastor was disinvited from the event as his campaign admitted on Sunday. Then why did Obama wait until now to speak against the remarks? Is it because he knows it has a negative impact on his campaign.

Does the teachings of this church explain Michelle Obama’s comments made about american being mean? Is it harder for Michelle Obama to disguise her true feelings?

Is Barack Obama simply a better politician and better and hiding how he truly feels?

Obama had plenty of time to go to church and attend NCLR conference… his speaking engagement was 1:30 - 3

It seems that Obama is just another conventional politician, or even worse. He lied about NAFTA and he lied about his church and his pastor. If the Rev. was knocking gays and abortionists instead of rich white people would you all be so appalled? OK, so we have a problem with tolerance in this country. Do you think racism is exclusive to white people?

I brought this up the other day. I go to a church that is fervently Republican, I am a democrat. They have an autographed pic of GW Bush in the Church office, but they don’t spout hate from the pulpit. I do not agree with them over politics, but I am not there to get into politics. I am there to worship God.

That being said, Obama may not have been there for all of these comments. But I would like to see him leave this Church and denounce what this guy has been saying.

I still don’t think this is as bad and the current admin policy on torture.

That’s an interesting alibi for not being at a racist sermon - “Well, I wasn’t there, because I was meeting with another racist group, The National Council of The Race.”

Which race? You know which one.

His wife speaks the same way the Pastor does.. I wondered where she was coming from. It is clear she follows this Pastor . Listen to her comments and his, practically identical.

As someone that holds a journalism degree I am disappointed in your organization’s lack of professionalism and journalistic integrity. This is clearly not a story, but your title makes it seem like one. It has been proven that Obama was elsewhere so why even report this? It seems like it is a blatant attempt to undermine his candidacy.

Comment by Barry

A FOX report based on a NEWSMAX internet story?
That’s rich.
This pastor story is a huge waste of time…move on already.

Again, I say to you, that Bill & Hillary Clinton didn’t do as much as they claim they have done to or for Blacks As a matter of fact, I can distinctly remember Bill Clinton cutting off welfare checks for the poorest of the poor when her first got elected, carrying 98% of the black vote and not having any Blacks in Senior Administration Positions in his cabinet. Also Hillary clinton claims she has a solution for health care crisis in America, but when she was given that very same task in Bill’s first Administration. she failed miserably. She also was confused as to who was the vice president in her husbands administration. The ticket was presented to the American People as Clinton/Gore. but in her on mind she assumed it to be Clinton/Clinton and fought Al Gore on every issue the people elected him to do. Hillary is a”monster” and she needs to be dealt with now as opposed to later!!!!!!!!!

enough already with reverend wright…i personally am getting sick of hearing about the issue. it has been played and played ad nauseum. i think everyone gets the point that this network is trying to make. let the american public make their own decision about the issue and stop cramming it down our throats!!!!!

It would seem that neither side of this story has seen the need to get the facts before presenting them to the public. Whether Obama was present in church on any given day or personally present during one of the Rev. Wright’s anti US sermons missess the point. The much bigger issue is if you are nonestly unaware of your spitiual advisor’s beliefs than what is the basis for his mentoring. To be a member of any organization without knowing what it’s leader stands for is not a trait that demonstrates presidential type leadrship. At the same time to bash Obama with unsubstantiated facts is equally demeaning to the public and only supports those who would like to sweep the issue of Rev. Wright under the rug.

Wishful thinking on both sides only demonstrates a mutual lack of interest in addressing what really matters, ie. What does Obama actually believe in! Until we know that, it is impossible to oppose or support him with any degree of good faith or honestly. It may well be that he simply does not know what he believes in and if so we need to know that. I would suggest that if after 20 years he does not know what his mentor believes in then how is he going to be able to ascertain what Chavez, the Hamas ,Putin or any of the remaining foreign leaders or governments believe. there is no question that the american people would like to believe what Obama tells us the dilema is believing an act of wishful thinking or good judgment.

I am from Trinidad in the West Indies and like many others am observing the elections with interest. Why are you all so concerned with the fact that Obama is associated with this church and the pastor’s views. I am sure that the pastor has preached on numerous biblical issues that you all are not highlighting. I feel that as members of the media you all are showing your basic racial bias and at this point are clutching at straws. The real issues are before you and the population and you all are not dealing with the issues that concern people; inflation, a deterioration in the environment, the unnessary expenditure on wars with nations that America has no business in, and so on. Come on, to many people of the world - especially those liberated in their thinking - your attitudes (which I am sure only reflect those of a minority of whites in America, since most people are growing beyond that) show without a measure of doubt that you are still racially inclined. Time to come out of that. A black man can be President of inter racial, technicnologically advanced, leader of the world America.

does obama really think that the american people will believe that he is ignorant of his pastor’s hatred of america and the white race? —that this pastor spewed this venomous tirade for one day? c’mon….. he knows his pastor’s heart and he included him in his presidential aspiration. what does that tell the american people? the person who wants to destroy america finally has his instrument. a vote for obama is a vote against america as we know it. as his slogan said, a vote for change. ever wonder what this particular change would be; did anybody ask him really what this change means? to those obamians who mindlessly repeat this mantra, i have this to say. careful what you ask for you might just get it….

His rejection of Mr. Wright is not strong enough and it is too little too late. We don’t need anyone in the White House who has friends and a spiritual advisor who is so anti-American.

Comment by David

Obama is trying to tell us that he never heard Wright talk that way in 20 years and this is all new to him. If he was a occasional member of that church I might have let it slide but Obama was inspired to write a book on what Wright told him and he has said on many occasions that Wright was responsible for his current spiritual beliefs and has been his mentor for 20 years.
He may not have been in attendance for that sermon but to say he has never heard anything like what Wright has said means one of two things either Obama is the biggest idiot to run for public office or he believes the American public are the biggest bunch starry-eyed retards ever to punch a ticket. Either way I wouldn’t like this guy running my country.

Comment by Donavon

wow…. didnt know obama was at two places at once…..

Comment by Sam Deakins

20 years of going to this church and Obomba missed the times when Wright said these outrageous things? Somehow I just don’t believe it. Seems Michelle heard some of the vile though.

Comment by Antonio

Its a wonder that anyone would run for political office knowing full well that his or hers entire life will be placed under a microscope. Does any person, going to the curch of their choice, have the responsibility to oversee what the sermon is going to be by the leader of that church? That candidate is not held accountable nor responsible. If they listen to the learder foaming at the mouth does not mean that person will be foaming at the mouth also. A person believes in God of that church not the person giving a sermon. Does any person running for pilitical office, as a Catholic, have the responsibility to oversee the activities of a priest eventually found out to be a child molestor and then be held accountable for it? And to be asked to denounce the priests and also to quit going to that church? I think not. The News Media and the politicians are making too much of this with Obama. It race coming into play? Will Clinton continue to be behind these attacks to gain a long time dream to be President for herself and not the country as a whole. I believe so. Go Obama.

Comment by Lety

Obama can’t have his cake and eat it too. How convenient of him to reply that “he did not attend” any of the controversial sermons. I don’t know about obama, and what “faith” really means to him considering his mom was an atheist, but I attend my church every Sunday to become enlightened and work towards becoming a better human. He says he has been a member of that racist, divisive church for 20 years, and supports that by getting married there and baptizing his daughters there. He obviously felt priveleged when wright presided over those rites of passage, instead of some underling. Now obama wants to wiggle out of this choice by making some lame excuse that he “did not attend” church on those given days. I am darned sure that those were not the only days wright preached sermons that were divisive, racist and ungodly. Does obama really show “good judgment”, like he says he possesses, after continuously attending this church to catapult him into Chicago’s politics? It is obviously clear that he is a “slick willy” trying to pull the wool over our eyes so that he can become president of the great United States of America. I am darn sure that he will then bring wright to the White House to “stick it to us!!!”

Comment by Sam Deakins

Another thought, if Obomba personally never attended any of the services when this vitriol was spoken, did nobody ever talk about what the Rev said? I would assume crap like this would be a topic of conversation for those who did attend and those who did not would at least have heard these conversations.

Comment by Pat

It is really immaterial whether he was in attendance at any of these church services on
certain dates. He surely cannot be that blind or stupid. You are the company you keep,
and to have a 20 year relationship, he would have to have known what this man was.
I am a registered Republican, but Hillary is starting to look awfully good. I hope the
Democrats give us someone to vote for (and I don’t mean Obama). McCain looks like
an extension of Bush.

Comment by R. Jones

How can anyone, after 20 years of attending a service of any kind, not actually hear, or heard of, statements that this Rev made? I find it rather odd.
