Gallup Poll: Many Democrats Ready to Vote McCain if Their First Choice Doesn’t Make It to November

Border

Many Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama supporters are ready to spurn the Democratic party and vote for John McCain in November if their candidate doesn’t win the presidential nomination, according to a new poll out Wednesday.

And a second poll out Wednesday shows most voters — including 85 percent of Democrats — believe there’s a chance that the battle between Clinton and Obama will not be resolved before the August convention.

Among people who identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters, 28 percent said they would vote for McCain if Obama is his opponent, the March 7-22 Gallup Poll Daily election tracking survey found.

The same poll found that 19 percent of Obama supporters would switch sides and cast ballots for McCain if Clinton is the Democratic candidate.

The survey interviewed 6,657 Democratic voters nationwide and had a margin of error of 2 percent.

Gallup analysts note that the results could change by November, by which time Democrats will have made great efforts to unify the party.

Gallup analysts also noted that voters tend to threaten party desertion but don’t necessarily do so. A recent Gallup survey found that 11 percent of Republican voters said they would vote for a different party or not at all if McCain doesn’t pick a running mate who is more conservative than he is.

Historically, the party-switch factor has shown to be less dramatic, Gallup analysts said. Less than 10 percent of Republicans and Democrats crossed party lines in pre-election Gallup polls from 1992 to 2004.

In the second poll, Rasmussen Reports found that 87 percent of all voters — and 85 percent of Democrats — believe it is “somewhat likely” that both Clinton and Obama will remain in the race until the convention. Fifty-two percent of Democrats said it is “very likely” the nomination won’t be decided until the convention.

The Rasmussen poll (March 24-25, 800 likely voters, +/- 4 percentage points) also found that there’s equal dislike on either side of the Democratic race for the rival candidate: 22 percent of both Clinton and Obama supporters said they believe the other candidate should drop out of the race.

This poll is exactly true and reflects the manner in which the candidates have presented themselves and their stratgic plans for the issues impacting America. These stats reflect the disenfranchised groups who have seen the media attempts to DESTROY Senator Clinton. Can we say “sexist” as easy as Obama and his OBAM-ites yell “racism” ?? HUMMM….

I am amazed that a candidate with virtually no experience and no real agenda laid out is leading the pack. Obama basically copied senator clintons plan and called his own. Also he has major credibility issues that make him unelectable.

We can all thank Hillary Clinton for this problem.

Her chances of winning are nearly a statistical impossibility, and yet she continues with dirty campaign tactics against Obama, even though he is almost guaranteed to win (based on his lead in the most pledged delegates, higher popular vote, and most states won).

Her thinking seems to be “If I cant win, Obama’s not going to win either”. Why else would she be repeatedly making favorable comments about herself AND John McCain within the same sentences, and then contrasting the two of them against Obama? Why else would she (and her husband and/or their surrogates) continue to try to inject race into the contest?

She is attempting to bring down a good and very special man, and its a shame.

You Obama supporters have lost it. You don’t know anything about Obama. He is the biggest liar and a con artist. The one thing, Obamas pastor is enough to convince me that he’s willing to support racist, and enough to convince any logical person that Obams is worthless. You mention a trip to Bosnia for Hillary or try to compare her to Tonja Harding. This is nuts. This is just trivial garbage. Obama supporters are 100% for Obams but with nothing to back it up but “he’s cool”. What makes you think he is honest? Did you read that in the Bible? You have be brainwashed by ABC, NBC, and the likes. There is plenty of evidence that Obama is a liar. Have you read this. I dont care about Bosnia because Hillary still has more experience than Obama. If Obama get sin he will just add a different kind of shame to the White House on top of the GW Bush mess that we already have. Have you forgot that the economy was the best during the 8 years that Bill Clinton was President? Why would you think Hilary would hurt our country when it prospered the most when Bill Clinton was President? I am a democrat and I will never vote for Obama. You dumbies are not going to make me either.
Hilary can still win. All it takes is enough people comming to ther senses.
Please vote for Hillary.

I hope the delegates get it that Obama has so turned off so many Democrats , almost one-third of them, that we cannot stomach voting for him. He is arrogant and abusive. I was not surprised that his minister is a raging hateful maniac. Not surprised at all. I’m just surprised that Democrats are still so deluded about him. It’s a character issue. Neither Obama nor McCain have great solutions. Hillary does. But if she doesn’t win, it the lesser of 2 evils, and it will come down to the fact that people think Obama is two faced and hypocritical and devaluing and just nasty.

H.R.C.=Human Rights Campaign and H.R.C.=Hillary Clinton…coincidence? I think not!

I am a bit concerned over Obamas’ relationship with such people as Reverend Wright. Barack said that he couldn’t disown Wright anymore than he could disown his “white grandmother.” Of course he can “disown” such an ignorant person! If his grandmother was that ignorant then he maybe couldn’t legally disown her, but he could not speak with her right?
What is more disturbing to me is when I came across a passage in Baracks book: “Dreams from my Father.”
In quoting Wright, Barack writes: “It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, WHERE WHITE FOLKS’ GREED RUNS A WORLD IN NEED, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere…That’s the world! On Which Hope sits!” This can be found on page 293 of the book.

My question: Since when is it just “white folks” greed that run this world? This, I believe, is ignorance. So how is it that Barack can say he did not know Reverend Wright had the ideals he holds when Barack directly quotes him in his own book saying something so ignorant?!
ALSO, Baracks motto “HOPE” apparently came from this mans speech. Great! Lets base a whole way of thinking and a whole campaign slogan on the words of a man who himself is ignorant and discriminates towards many types of people.
I read a lot and keep up with my politics, both on a local and national level. I once liked Barack and considered putting my support behind him. This, as I am sure you have figured out, has changed. I am not overly happy with the negativity coming from either of the parties. But, I can say that Hillary is still the right candidate and I now have concluded that my support will be 100% behind McCain if Hillary does not get the Democratic nomination.
