Gallup Poll: Many Democrats Ready to Vote McCain if Their First Choice Doesn’t Make It to November

Border

Many Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama supporters are ready to spurn the Democratic party and vote for John McCain in November if their candidate doesn’t win the presidential nomination, according to a new poll out Wednesday.

And a second poll out Wednesday shows most voters — including 85 percent of Democrats — believe there’s a chance that the battle between Clinton and Obama will not be resolved before the August convention.

Among people who identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters, 28 percent said they would vote for McCain if Obama is his opponent, the March 7-22 Gallup Poll Daily election tracking survey found.

The same poll found that 19 percent of Obama supporters would switch sides and cast ballots for McCain if Clinton is the Democratic candidate.

The survey interviewed 6,657 Democratic voters nationwide and had a margin of error of 2 percent.

Gallup analysts note that the results could change by November, by which time Democrats will have made great efforts to unify the party.

Gallup analysts also noted that voters tend to threaten party desertion but don’t necessarily do so. A recent Gallup survey found that 11 percent of Republican voters said they would vote for a different party or not at all if McCain doesn’t pick a running mate who is more conservative than he is.

Historically, the party-switch factor has shown to be less dramatic, Gallup analysts said. Less than 10 percent of Republicans and Democrats crossed party lines in pre-election Gallup polls from 1992 to 2004.

In the second poll, Rasmussen Reports found that 87 percent of all voters — and 85 percent of Democrats — believe it is “somewhat likely” that both Clinton and Obama will remain in the race until the convention. Fifty-two percent of Democrats said it is “very likely” the nomination won’t be decided until the convention.

The Rasmussen poll (March 24-25, 800 likely voters, +/- 4 percentage points) also found that there’s equal dislike on either side of the Democratic race for the rival candidate: 22 percent of both Clinton and Obama supporters said they believe the other candidate should drop out of the race.

I cannot believe that anyone who is an American citizen would give up their right to vote. Just because they are pouting that “Their canidate” not getting the nonimation is an irresponsible excuse not to vote. What would happen if all American’s took that attitude and no one voted? It’s the American way we choose our President. Your obligation in choosing our United States President is to vote. Vote between the two canidates and vote your best choice. It is your obligation as an American citizen. Grow up.

It is now obvious the Clintons are destoying the democrat party out of spite.

Apparently they are furious that their plan to re-take the White House by running Hillary as a carpetbagger Senator from New York, those blueprints drawn up in the West Wing before President Clinton even left office has failed.

Like spoiled children they are stating if they can’t play then nobody can play. This is why Hillary’s national approval rating now stands at 37%.

President Bush’s approval rating stands between 32 and 34%.

Apparently the Clinton’s think the +/- 3 points is within the margin of error.

Obama/Edwards 2008! Biden asked to be Secretary of State. Gov. Richardson asked to lead the fight for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

We are a nation undergoing massive transition. Time for new leadership to steer this nation through CHANGE.

Hillary cannot unite this new nation. Obama can.

A lot of Republican voters like myself are upset at Bush for spending and allowing Congress to spend more than any Republicans ever had before. However, there is no way I would just not vote and although McCain was not my first choice. I will certainly support him to keep Hillary and Obama out of there because there plans won’t work either!

Let everyone take a deep breath….

The economy is in shampo now; we have have spend close to half a trillion on Iraq and McCain promised to continue that policy.

I know you are angry at Obama or at Hillary for one reason or the other and you might be right, but if you sit at home or choose to vote for McCain instead; do you know what that vote will cost this country in dollars and in blood?

Look back at the last time you made a decision out of anger, was that the best the decision?

Before casting your protest votes; think of the future of this Country, think about what this war will cost your children; you finally have a chance to end this war; you have a chance to divert that trillion of dollars that will be spend in Iraq on things here in America; you finally have the chance to make a difference and you want to plow because you are angry?

Stick with the democrats, Give the Dems a chance, the Republicans have scroll up this country in many ways that we cannot imagine, do not reward them with another more 8 years; when the anger is gone; when the dust is settled, you might regret your protest vote.

Take a deep breath.

I’m sick of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY & DNC. I will vote for Hillary Clinton, but will never vote for a man of Obamas character NEVER. I’m sick of the partys’ actions in the extreme harsh treatment of the people of Florida & Michigan and the childish way their members have behaved calling for ending the race early. February they started! They look like snakes and are pushing this man with
the shadiest cohorts and record.

Why would I vote democratic? Hillary Clinton is the only reason. I have no more loyalty to those buzzards.
