Chelsea Helps Mom Raise Cash in D.C.
WASHINGTON — Chelsea Clinton warmed up supporters Wednesday night by ticking through her mother’s achievements and the Democratic presidential candidate’s plans to boost the economy and end the Iraq war.
“I like to think I’m my mother’s most enthusiastic supporter, but there might be a few rivals in the crowd tonight,” she said after she and Hillary Rodham Clinton were warmly greeted at a fundraiser at a concert hall two blocks from the White House.
Chelsea Clinton, 28, has become one of her mother’s top surrogates and has been campaigning from coast to coast, mostly at college campuses. On Tuesday in Indianapolis, she had a quick retort when a male college student asked whether her mother’s credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
“Wow, you’re the first person actually that’s ever asked me that question in the, I don’t know maybe, 70 college campuses I’ve now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business,” Chelsea Clinton said at a question-and-answer session at Butler University.
The former first daughter encouraged the crowd to reach out to voters in the remaining states that have yet to hold nominating contests, “so that we can have the president that we need, not only for us and our generation, but for our children and the grandchildren that I know my mother wants to have.”
The line drew laughter and applause before she introduced her mother, who delivered her standard campaign speech.
Hillary Clinton raised about $500,000 at three fundraisers Wednesday, her campaign said.
Supporters paid between $25 and $500 for tickets to Washington event, depending on where they sat at DAR Constitution Hall. The campaign said it sold out the venue with 2,500 tickets, but not every seat was filled.
The New York senator raised $34.5 million in February — her best fundraising month of the campaign. Counting debts, she ended the month with a net $3 million.
She still trails rival Barack Obama, who raised nearly $2 million a day in February and began March with $30 million in the bank.
Hillary Clinton discussed her plans to make college more affordable and take care of veterans, and the “unprecedented moment in history” in which she is vying to be the first female president and Obama is seeking to be the first black president.
“This has been a spirited contest,” the former first lady said. “And, you know, what? It should be. Because that’s how America works best.”
If Chelsea is Hillary’s “most enthusiatic supporter”, then they have a problem. Her relationship with people during the campaign has not been very good. As of yet, I don’t think she has developed the poise to be in the limelight like this, nor does she have the polite tact when handling difficult questions.
I love a fighter! Go, Hillary, go, it won’t be easy, but it will not be impossible either.

If Clinton has programs to help veterans, make college more affordable, help heal the housing and mortgage problems, and make health care more affordable then why isn’t she doing them NOW ?? Isn’t it her job to be a representative of the people and help cure present problems ?? Why should we have to wait for these programs, and why should it cost more tax money when they are instituted ?? — Clinton is a do-nothing fraud …
Chelsea you are starting to become more like your parents,spewing lies about your mothers accomplishments.Well here’s some words you need to adhere to,I qoute your father,”Saddle up”.You have placed yourself in direct fire by stumping for your mama,it wont be imagined like the Bosnia snippers your mother wrote about and then re-stated in her speech.I hoped you would not get involved in this campaign but since you have chosen to do so take the hits like your daddy said!You’ve lived and prospered on the taxpayers dollar long enough!You are now a fair target for questioning of these bogus claims made by your mama,you are a product of their bogus marriage,you have proven your arrogance again and again.The Clintons cant help America move forward,they are too backwards and dishonest,and self serving!

You know what? I think Hillary is a very brave, intelligent woman thay has the courage of her own convictions and sticks by them. As for the bigotted remarks about shaking a ‘cheating husband’, I think they are stupid. It shows strength and a resolve to keep her family together over and above her own hurts. She was hurt, but, she wanted Chelsea to have a complete home. If more women would quit putting their own feelings above the welfare of their children, there would be less broken homes and mixed up, resentful young people. I applaude Hillary for hanging in. If more people would quit letting themselves be manipulated by the press, they could see this in the right light, too. Besides, Hillary is running, NOT Bill!!! The press should be ashamed for the way they are showing favoritism. It isn’t because they like Obama as much as they know he would be easier for the Republicans to beat. No wonder this country is down so low in the education polls. People here DO act stupid, bigotted, biased and as easily led as illiterates are, so, why wouldn.t the world see us that way?
Chelsea really should stay home.. When asked a question about something that concerns everyone in the country and has been common knowledge for 10 years, all she can come come up with is ” I don’t think it’s any of your business”? — Well, at least the Clintons are being consistent …
These candidates (all) can raise this kind of money when they need it for themselves to campaign. Granted they need the exposer but in the end what could that kind of money do for the poor, health care, education, social security, the deficit, etc. I could think of thousands of ways to use that money for this country. Yet they(candidates ) think nothing of it. I have seen the american people donate for disasters but not in this magnitude. It is beyond comprehension. I would like to know the totality at the end of this circus, not just for the 3 left but for the whole lot from the beginning.
My feelings on Chelsea finally worming out of the wood work after all these years of exile to help her mother really irritates me. Those Clinton’s have a great way of hiding lots of stuff, but they couldn’t hide the stuff they pilfered from the white house. They use what they need it as they need it, kind of like scam artist. NO MORE CLINTON’S and NO OBAMA’S.
Chelsea is an interesting combination of Bill and Hillary. There are some smart genes there! I hope to see her running about 15 years from now. In the meantime, her mom would be great
