NFL Schedules Season Opener on Night of McCain Nomination Acceptance
The NFL’s Thursday night season opener will match the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, with the game possibly starting an hour-and-a-half earlier to avoid clashing with the Republican National Convention.
The game is now scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 4 — the concluding night of the Republican convention — and will be televised by NBC. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday that the NFL is talking with the network about changing the game’s starting time to 7 p.m.
The Super Bowl winner traditionally hosts the game. The Redskins’ participation was confirmed by a person familiar with the NFL schedule who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league has not announced it.
The highlight games of the NFL’s first weekend will be announced Monday during league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. The rest of the schedule will be announced later next month.

Go Skins
Well - let’s see - a football game or the fate of the nation. A tough one - huh?
I’m just sorry that we have to watch the Giants that night…lets go Bears!
Why would an acceptance speech by possibly the next President of the United States be improtant!! Why not consider renaming the two houses of congress to AFL and NFL so that our children take a interest in our Government. Change the game to another night - maybe the to a night important to Hollywood where nobody would care. NBC you will always be on the bottom - your lobottomy is complete.
I think this is a Democrat conspiracy……..
Is this really a shocker to anyone? If this was the same night as the Democratic Nomination acceptance there would be protests and media coverage 24/7!! All this clearly points to the continued lack of respect and apathy that is strewn towards the Republican Party.
Notice how the insurgency has started to rise again in the “green zone” since talk of a reduction in troops in Iraq. I guess if we get a Democrat in the White House we can then “cut and run”. Once the terrorists think we can be intimidated I am sure this will only embolden them to further acts of violence against the West!!
Don’t change the game time…we need something as an alternative to these pompous windbags who are systematically stealing our money and and constantly lying to us.
McCain is largely responsible for $Billions in additional losses by the Savings and Loan industry (Keating Five), erosion of our 1st Amendment rights (McCain-Feingold), decimation of our Federal Courts (gang of 14) and undermining of the President on National Security issues (public statements about Waterboarding and Guantanomo Bay). In addition, he’s ignorant of the fact that tax cuts have always generated higher revenues and he’s guilty of class warfare with his references to “tax cuts for the rich”.
Let the game go at its normal time. Otherwise, if I have to watch McCain, Ill need a puke bucket beside my TV

I’ll be watching convention not football if there’s a conflict — FIRST THINGS FIRST!
I am disappointed in the NFL’s schedule. I am a fan of the NFL season, however, how long has the NFL and the networks known of the Republican Party convention dates and the importance that the people in this country not be distracted by popular events such as this. I think there should be a ruling not to allow interferance with this kind of an event.
You better believe, NBS (and other networks) wouldn’t do the same with the Democratic convention airing. Is this just another way to not give McCain press? It seems over the course of this election air time has been quite lopsided. It feels like this is a calculated scheme.
I love football and look forward to the first fall game. However, I think Senator McCains, exceptance speech should diffinately supercede the game. I need to hear what my next President plans to do.. So move the opening game to another night. Thanks
