NFL Schedules Season Opener on Night of McCain Nomination Acceptance
The NFL’s Thursday night season opener will match the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, with the game possibly starting an hour-and-a-half earlier to avoid clashing with the Republican National Convention.
The game is now scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 4 — the concluding night of the Republican convention — and will be televised by NBC. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday that the NFL is talking with the network about changing the game’s starting time to 7 p.m.
The Super Bowl winner traditionally hosts the game. The Redskins’ participation was confirmed by a person familiar with the NFL schedule who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league has not announced it.
The highlight games of the NFL’s first weekend will be announced Monday during league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. The rest of the schedule will be announced later next month.

NBC brings a new form of biased editorializing of the news to the table; editorializing by conflict scheduling. Leave it to left-wing NBC to try a subterfuge and of course deny any awareness of the connection and its political impact. To deny can only mean they are grossly unaware of current events (read that as stupid), or they are lying.
NFL league meetings are in West Palm Beach, Fl, not Palm Beach, Fl. They are two different places.
Again the a major network will do whatever it takes to lessen the importance of the Republican Presidential Candidate. The NFL should step aside and move the game to Friday.
If the choice is football or politics, I’ll even go for football.

Hey everyone is saying how Politics is a contact sport. What better way to start both seasons. Go Carolina…
Now, do you think the opener would be a different night if it was the Dem’s convention?
Isn’t that something! I wonder if the NFL would show their game if Obama or Clinton had their acceptance speech schedule for the same night. I bet they wouldn’t. Come on, change your game night.
I’d rather watch football! Leave the original time alone, if anything needs changing, let the politician’s change their schedule.
I much prefer the earlier start time. I start my work day at 7AM and can’t stay up to watch night games past half-time. It’s too late. I would watch the whole game if it started at 7PM.
DOES IT REALLY MATTER?
Well, that figures! Afterall, football is much more important than choosing the leader of the free world, right?
