Rev. Jeremiah Wright Surprises Chicago Church With Appearance
CHICAGO — Barack Obama’s former pastor, who canceled several public events following an uproar over his incendiary comments, surprised a Chicago congregation by attending an event to celebrate poet Maya Angelou’s birthday.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright got a raucous standing ovation when he entered Saint Sabina church on the city’s South Side on Friday night, according to video from WBBM-TV. Members yelled “Hallelujah!” as Wright embraced the Rev. Michael Pfleger, Saint Sabina’s pastor.
The smiling Wright accepted an invitation to give the benediction at the Roman Catholic church but did not address the furor over his past sermons. He also sang “Happy Birthday” to Angelou, whose birthday is April 4.
Afterward, he went into an office off the pulpit to greet audience members.
Pfleger told the CBS station he invited Wright because he is a fan of Angelou, who was at the church for a speaking engagement.
“I wanted him to come tonight as a guest because he loves Dr. Angelou, and I wanted him to see the love of people for him,” Pfleger said. “And so when I asked him about coming, he said he’d be honored to come and it was a blessing for us to have him here.”
Obama has condemned remarks from Wright that denounced America for allegedly racist and genocidal acts. Videos of Wright’s remarks circulated on the Internet and on television.
Wright has not spoken publicly since the controversy over his sermons began. He recently scrapped plans to receive an award in Texas, and to speak at churches in Houston and Tampa, Fla.

If Wright actually believes in what he preaches and believes it to be path to happiness and salvation, I wonder why that message is not strong enough for him to keep his speaking engagements?? — Maybe while he is out in public he could explain the use of $1.6 million for
his retirement castle rather than to help the ‘disadvantaged and down-trodden’.. Obama has called this ‘pastor’ his friend, mentor, and advisor.. Doesn’t exactly sound like Obama is going to be a beacon of encouragement for everyone, does it ??
It’s a shame, that people today will show honor to someone who displays racial behavior behind the pulpit. I’m saddened to see this for alls sake, as this does remind us if you read the Bible it will tell you that toward the end of time it will only get worse not better. Mr. Wright showed hatred at the church, and I still can’t believe what I heard and saw. I always enjoyed and respected the words of god from Rev. Billy Graham though. Thank You, Randy Grimes
Wow, the Catholic Church seems to have the compassion of Christ. Extending a hand of understanding to a minister who has been smeared by a 30 second sound bite from some of his sermons. I wonder why we don’t hear about any of his sermons that preached the acceptance of Messiah as our Savior only the “sermon of damnation” about our country that was established under Elohim and has forgotton our first love (see Revelations).
Just the beginning. This guy will be given an ambassadorship or more if Obama is elected.
Obama is toast!!
Regardless of his past and present comments which society will judge him for, the final question that begs to be asked is “WWJD” (What would Jesus do?) I think the Rev. Michael Pfleger, Saint Sabina’s pastor did the right thing. One is not wiped off the face of the earth for making mistakes, realized or not, but one should be fed towards his/her journey home.
Wake up America! This man was Mr. Obama’s mentor throughout his life. This “pastor’s” words are reprehensible to say the least but also scarey if you take scripture into context. The Bible warns about such abominations and desecrations. I don’t know-Hilary is looking better every day and I’m Republican!!!
Dr. Angelou? Where did she get her PhD? MFA? BA?
He shouldnt be showing his hateful face anywhere in this country.
Can we get him deported?????
I will help him to relocate to another (country)..where do I send the
plane fare??
We Americans dont need him, dont want him ,etc. He can take Obama
and his wife w/ him.

Oh my goodness, now we are hearing Rev. Wright visiting this chicago church, and he gets a standing ovation. If you are a racist or liar in this country, you get a standing ovation. Is there something wrong with this picture?? I hope that all the christians in this nation will definitely be praying about this election for 2008, and that Obama will definitely be more and more exposed for who he is and what he is. He definitely does not know the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord. The speech he gave on christiantity was full of humanism. Americans definitely need to pray about who should be our next president.
