Rev. Jeremiah Wright Surprises Chicago Church With Appearance

CHICAGO — Barack Obama’s former pastor, who canceled several public events following an uproar over his incendiary comments, surprised a Chicago congregation by attending an event to celebrate poet Maya Angelou’s birthday.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright got a raucous standing ovation when he entered Saint Sabina church on the city’s South Side on Friday night, according to video from WBBM-TV. Members yelled “Hallelujah!” as Wright embraced the Rev. Michael Pfleger, Saint Sabina’s pastor.

The smiling Wright accepted an invitation to give the benediction at the Roman Catholic church but did not address the furor over his past sermons. He also sang “Happy Birthday” to Angelou, whose birthday is April 4.

Afterward, he went into an office off the pulpit to greet audience members.

Pfleger told the CBS station he invited Wright because he is a fan of Angelou, who was at the church for a speaking engagement.

“I wanted him to come tonight as a guest because he loves Dr. Angelou, and I wanted him to see the love of people for him,” Pfleger said. “And so when I asked him about coming, he said he’d be honored to come and it was a blessing for us to have him here.”

Obama has condemned remarks from Wright that denounced America for allegedly racist and genocidal acts. Videos of Wright’s remarks circulated on the Internet and on television.

Wright has not spoken publicly since the controversy over his sermons began. He recently scrapped plans to receive an award in Texas, and to speak at churches in Houston and Tampa, Fla.

Standing ovation For Reverend Wright in a Roman Catholic Church. Sad day for the faithful.

How he could have received such a warm reception shows the ignorance of some Americans. He stands for racism, hate and he is anti-American and yet people still embrace him. Too many people drinking the Koolaid. I guess it is relativly easy to get people to follow blindly and I guess that is why we have so many hate groups and cults that thrive in America. Wake up people don’t you have a mind of your own!

Dear Greta,Iam a female R.N. who is heartsickened over the teachings of Obama’s ministerand the anti-american sentiment that exists among the left wing of the democratic party that has been supporting him ,endorsing him, and covering for him.It does not look good for the USa to have him on the presidential ticket. He should not be allowed that privelege. Thank-you for the work you have done on this and for being our voice. More needs to be done on this before he gets the nomination and maybe even the presidency that should be reserved for people much more deserving of this status.
The other cable channelsare not giving any information on this which only leads me to beleive that they are corrupt. God Bless You Greta and our U.S.A.

I happen to be a practicing Catholic and I feel Rev. Wright may preach the gospel but God’s message has been lost on the good Reverend. God preaches love and forgiveness. Rev. Wright’s messges are downright disgusting to any normal person and takes back the cause of racial equality 100 years. His message does not unite people it excludes them with hate and bitterness. I was taught to respect our elders and those with titles such as the Reverend. But in Rev. Wright’s case I care not to do either.

Rev. Wright is not a celebrity but maybe he should start a new church in Hollywood, maybe the liberals could make a few movies and write a few books thus dividing the population even further.

Bigot. Should be relegated to the scrapheap of history.

How did Rev. Wright get his degrees from a country he hates? The new Pastor is just as consumed with hate at Rev. Wright is. Isn’t it always better to blame some one else for your own actions!

I am white and just as proud of it as you are of being black. This is how it should be. My mother was an indentured Orphan Train child born in Manhattan who was sent to Texas when she was 3 1/2 years old on one of the “Orphan Trains” ferring thousands of children out of NYC. She was taken out of school in the 3rd grade to pick cotton in East Texas. I have her indentured papers to prove this and she never hated anyone or blamed anyone for anything! You will never get ahead as long as your head is screwed on backwards as you dwell on your past.

A nun who was my teacher in high school told her class this: “If you want to blame someone for the color of their skin you must blame God for He made all of us.”

Hate will wither your soul!

Why should American supporters be surprised by this visit and reception? After all, the people who love America were evidently not in the audience. There is nothing new about the racist black liberation theology that preaches hate and victomology. There is no wonder the corporations are moving out to more friendly nations.
