Bob Barr Weighing Presidential Run

Former Republican Georgia Rep. Bob Barr is considering a run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket.

Barr told FOX News on Tuesday that he should know in the next few days whether he is going to go for it.

If he does decide to make an announcement in the next few days, Barr said it “would not be in either Washington or Atlanta.

Another source todl FOX News that the announcement should happen this weekend, probably on April 5. That is the day Barr is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

Barr, who joined the Libertarian Party after leaving Congress in 2003, is looking to attract conservatives who are unhappy with the choice of John McCain as the expected Republican presidential nominee. McCain and Barr are at odds primarily over the role of U.S troops in Iraq, although both agree that tough interrogation methods should not be permitted.

FITNews, who was first to report the possible presidential bid, wrote that Barr will receive the endorsement of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, a GOP presidential candidate who is still technically in the race but has not suggested he would throw his support to McCain. McCain and Paul, who ran on the Libertarian Party presidential ticket in 1988, also are at odds primarily over the role of U.S. troops in Iraq.

Barr, who represented Georgia’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 1995-2003 and served as a House manager during impeachment proceedings against former President Bill Clinton, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that he identifies closely with Paul’s outlook.

“Ron Paul tapped into a great deal of that dissatisfaction and that awareness. Unfortunately, working through the Republican party structure, it became impossible for him to really move forward with his movement. But we have to have ….a rallying point out there to harness that energy, that freedom in this election cycle,” he said.

I’d rather have an anti-war (well, less warmongering) socialist who can’t get things passed in congress than a slightly less big government president who will have with with every country and their neighbors.

Conservatives also need a choice this November. Anti-war conservatives.

The Libertarian points of view regarding a foreign policy of noninterventionalism and personal responsibility are so simple that most everyone misses the genius of them. These points of view are not new. Our founders filled our Constitution with these ideas. It is such a shame that the Constitution is now largely ignored. Ron Paul and Bob Barr are true patriots.

I will deffinatly not support a McClaim presidency. This man is pure evil and a loose loose for the once great Repubulican Party. I want someone who will obey the rules, the supreme one being the Constitution and follow the party platform we the people put forth. It’s hard to think yea for Barr it’s even harder for a yea for McCain. I think I’ll be backing one of the most Ronald Reagan Republicans out there, a man of integrety and a pupil of the founders Ron Paul.

I don’t see where McClaim gets his support about 3/4 of the delegates I meet going to state in Texas were for and are still backing completly different candidates than McCain. He has no real support just the popular vote which goes where the liberal media wants it to.

I welcome this news with great approval. I’m fed up with the RNC who are so utterly stupid and alienated from their member base that they think they can forever put up liberal candidates, and then terrify conservative Republicans to vote for them by reason of the even more liberal Democrat. I don’t even see a difference any more. Its like whether you go over a cliff at 60 mph, or 90mph. I hope other Republican’s feel the same. If he runs, i’ll vote for him, and if possible give to his campaign.

Gee, Im so glad the American people love their One party system and are opposed to third parties. Sad. Ill no longer vote for the lesser of two evils, ever again. It’s time to break that conditioning. My problem is trying to figure out which is the lesser of two evils. We either get a socialist or a warmonger. Either way, the dollar is going to continue it’s freefall collapse while the Federal Reserve gets itself even more power. Pretty comical, the Fed destroys the dollar and then is seen as it’s savior.

I think it is a great idea. Bush made a big mess. McCain is not a conservative Republican and wants to continue the big mess. All our money is going to this big mess. The Democratic Congress did not do a single thing. Paul is the only one who can clean up this mess, because he knows economics compared to the other candidates. I will go to whoever he endorses, if he does not get his parties nomination at the convention. Will not vote for the lesser of two evils ever again.

It is sad reading about people who hate others running for president.
A lot of those same people are willing to send our soldiers to die fighting for another counties Democracy yet hate it here.
This baby boomer generation is going to go down in history as the worst ever in America. They have lead this county down a sad road. My generation will have to pay for and die for their short sighted mistakes.

Yeah! We should only have two parties running for office!
It’s not the American way to have diversity in our elections!

I mean, look how great the two party system has worked for us up until now,
we have a solid economy and our health and educational systems have never been better!

Yeah, let’s just keep voting for Republicrats!

Some of you are assuming Juan McCain has a chance of beating Obama.

I dont think he can as many Conservatives cannot stand him because his track record on the 2nd Amendment and Border Security are COMPLETELY Democratic.

Please google his adviser Juan Hernandez, an ex-Mex govt official and is best described as an “Obsequious Toad” due to the fact that he cannot be argued with & has stated he believes there should not be Borders and the Mexican illegals should be here and take over. So why is this dreeb (very quietly)on McCain’s staff - he’s PURE POISON to Border Security and Lawful Immgration !!?

Lets also remember those McCain/Feingold and McCain/Lieberman Bills… and the INTERESTING fact that McCain is really a mainstream media construct - they have built him up and pushed hard - to which you have to ask WHY? Big Media does nothing without a reason and they support Obama. QED, they think McCain is not a threat to Obama.

Yes, RINO Juan McCain if he wins maybe as bad as Hillary.
Bob Barr could make an interesting choice.

Brad
