Obama to Reward Students Who Register Others to 3-on-3 Basketball
Barack Obama will play three-on-three with students — and possibly a former Indiana University basketball star — as he taps the state’s rich basketball tradition to help get out the vote for next month’s primary.
An 18-year-old high school student who registers 20 people to vote will choose two students to help challenge the Democratic presidential candidate on the court, said Kevin Griffis, a spokesman for Obama’s campaign in Indiana. If the winning student decides not to play, he or she can choose all three players.
Obama’s team could include Calbert Cheaney, a former NBA player and NCAA basketball player of the year, and a college student who registers 30 new voters.
“We just were looking for a way to engage young people,” Griffis said. “There simply is no better state to do this sort of thing than Indiana, where basketball is important to so many communities across the state.”
Obama was a member of Hawaii’s championship high school basketball team in 1979; the Illinois senator grew up on the island state. A recent YouTube video clip shows him casually sinking a three-point shot at a school gym in South Carolina during a visit to promote his education policies.
Cheaney, an Evansville, Ind., native who played for Indiana University and most recently was with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, said he has supported Obama from the “get-go.”
“I’m just one of those guys that think he could be the man to change everything for the better,” Cheaney said.
The game would be held at the winning 18-year-old’s high school on a date to be determined, and likely be played according to standard three-on-three rules, in which the first team to reach 11 points wins, Obama’s campaign said.
The contest is the latest effort by Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to reach out to voters before Indiana’s primary May 6, where 72 delegates are at stake. A Rushville woman won a dinner with Obama in an online donor initiative, and two Indiana women were chosen to follow Clinton for a day during a swing through the state last week.

Here is what a hypothetical question and answer session between America’s voters and Obama/his supporters might look like… totally hypothetical.
QUESTION:
“Obama… can you and your surrogates continue to speak of “Change” but give few-to-no details on what that change means, and get away with it in the media?”
OBAMA: “YES WE CAN”
QUESTION:
“Obama… can you and your cohorts in good conscience deny Florida and Michigan voters some form of delegate representation?”
OBAMA: “YES WE CAN”
QUESTION:
“Obama… you can’t just build a platform with little-to-no substance and win a presidential election… can you?”
OBAMA: “YES, WE CAN”
Guilt by association is an American media invention. it is used when they have no credible evidence to discredit you. Obama spewed no hate, his pastor did. I truely think Fox people and others posting here are so ignorant as to keep pushing this idea that we should hold Obama accountable for his pastors hate rhetoric. If you think like the Fox people think, then you had better disown your whole family for all their misdeeds, if you wouldn’t do that, then hold Rev wright and not Obama accountable.
Go Barack! All the way to Pennsylvannia Avenue!
Why do people always want to bring in racial issues at every opportunity they get. Can’t we talk about issues that are important to people and to this country?. America is a diverse country, and let’s celebrate our diversity.
Just wondering, can Obama vote present when he is the POTUS.
I am a young student who is turning 18 and i have read alot of these comments. Its people who keep bashing what he is doing, people like you who have let us younger generation down. What he is doing is great. He is getting us involved in politics. No where does he say I have to vote for him. Most of you have let the younger generation, your own kids down. We are more screwed up then ever before, and for us to be able to speak up for our future is great. Wake up America, you have let us down and obama is doing a good job of getting us to speak up regardless of who we vote for.
A Presidential candidate playing basketball, showing up on Leno or “The View,” playing the sax, bowling — There was a time when candidates for President met with foreign dignitaries, Heads of State, potentates, and other foreign dignitaries.
The Demobrats all seem to be trying to outdo each other in their desperation to appear silly and insignificant– like little children who have no sense of what it means to be a responsible adult.
Give me a break, The Democrat Congress and Senate has a 21 percent job approval rate. Well ask yourself why, maybe its because they have only taken
and not given. They eliminated the Republican tax cuts, next year it will cost
you more in your tax’s. They just are giving business’s almost 30 billion dollars
and home owners next to nothing. you want Obama, vote for him its the countrys next worse thing.
It might be a little more mature to get off the basketball court and learn a little bit more about the economy. Being president deserves a little bit more seriousness.
