Clinton Drops Disputed Story of Uninsured Pregnant Woman From Stump Speech
Hillary Clinton is honoring an Ohio hospital’s request that she stop retelling the tragic story of an uninsured pregnant woman who died after being denied care, after the hospital referenced in the story disputed the account.
Clinton noticeably dropped the story from her stump speech Saturday in Hillsboro, Ore. Since late February, she had weaved into her speeches the description of an uninsured pizza parlor employee who died after she couldn’t afford $100 to get treatment.
The New York Times reported Saturday that representatives from O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio, called on Clinton to stop telling the tale, since they say the woman — identified as Trina Bachtel — was never refused treatment.
She died in August after her baby was stillborn at the hospital, but hospital administrators told the Times Bachtel actually was insured and kept under the care of a practice affiliated with the hospital.
Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee acknowledged that the campaign had tried but hadn’t been able to “fully vet” the story before she began repeating it on the campaign trail. Clinton said she learned of the woman from a deputy sheriff whose home she visited while campaigning in Ohio. She told the story as recently as late Friday, at a rally in Grand Forks, N.D.
Elleithee said they’d honor the hospital’s request.
“She tells the story as it was told to her by the deputy sheriff. She had no reason to doubt his word,” Elleithee said. “If the hospital claims it didn’t happen that way, we certainly respect that and she won’t repeat the story. She never mentions the hospital by name and isn’t trying to cast blame.”
Hospital spokeswoman Linda Weiss told the Times that even though Clinton did not mention the hospital by name in her speeches, they were implicitly accused since the baby died at the hospital.

Abraham Lincoln said: we know nothing of what will happen in the future, but by the analogy of past experience.
I can hear Sen. Kennedy on the stump for Obama now:
“Lie after Lie after Lie after Lie after Lie”
“We had that from Bush and we’ll have more of it from Hillary”
I find it both interesting and alarming that from the the Clinton advisers & staffers like ie Gov. Bill Richardson of N.M., Ted Kennedy to others in congress, they are turning have from Hillary and Bill Clinton.
With all these “mis-statments”, we’re getting father away from the issues and stances from the canidates and because of these kind of distractions. But on the other hand, perhaps we’re seeing what they really will offer us. More of the same dececption and “mis-statements” aka LIES!!!!
Carefull who you wish for.
Is Hillary “mis-speaking” again - again - again- again??????
Any responsible person would double check the details of a story before repeating it. I’m not surprised the deputy sheriff had the wrong details. How would he know anyway? Rumors don’t take long to start. It shows her lack of integrity and her eagerness to attack the “broken system.” All she is really doing is working the people. She and Obama are playing on the emotions of the people, promising to deliver so many things that they can never deliver, universal health care that works being one of them.
If former president Reagan were still with us, he would say “Here we go again”. That certainally would be the truth. This woman is a disgrace to the party and the nation. Let’s hope the Peter Paul case puts her away from the polical arena–Peter paul vs. Hillary in your search engine or view the film Hillary Uncensored.
I will not defend Hillarys lies or Obamas lies but I do see how they all go barrelling off so excited about being Americas next saviour that they speak first and ask questions later.
Hillary lies about this and it disappoints me - but I am really uncomfortable how everything bad that happens to Obama is either something done by someone on his staff or he claims ignorance being “unaware” regarding the character of his dubious associations. Then everytime he gets really cornered on an issue, for someone who isn’t interested in discussing race he suddenly delivers a stirring speech discussing just that to deflect the contentious issue.
I prefer Hillary mainly because I distrust him more.
Roger…what are you saying? That you will vote for someone that liar? If you think that they will change the country. Yike Roger…How do you know that everything she said about changing the country isn’t a lie! Its all about being accountable roger
If you think Hillary is going to “cure” our health care with her Government run “Universal” Health care then your are smoking major DOPE. It can only reduce the quality of care and bankrupt this nation. IT DOESN’T WORK ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET!
Idiot liberals when are you going to learn that the GOVERNMENT does not make your life better.
The Clintons got away with this stuff just fine until the democrats got invested in Obama. Welcome to the new world Hill.
