Clinton Takes Obama to Task Over Foreign Policy Experience Claim
Hillary Clinton took no quarter Tuesday in responding to a reported claim by Barack Obama that he has more foreign policy experience than either Clinton or Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain.
According to the Huffington Post blog, Obama was addressing a crowd of fundraisers in San Francisco on Sunday when he began talking about his choice for vice president, and said he would choose someone who adds to his expertise.
“I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more commander in chief-like. Ironically, this is an area — foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain,” Obama reportedly said.
Clinton, speaking with FOX News Tuesday morning, said she was baffled by the claim.
“I’m somewhat shocked by that since I don’t see any evidence of it,” Clinton said, chuckling. “This is, you know, kind of hard to square with his failure ever to have a single policy hearing on the only responsibility he was given, chairing the European and NATO subcommittee on the Foreign Relations Committee.
“And as he admitted in the last debate, he was too busy running for president to pay attention to what we needed to do to improve our chances in Afghanistan and get NATO more involved. So, you know, I, I ,I don’t, I don’t know, I’m speechless. I mean, you know, making an assertion like that belies the facts and the record.”
Obama is scheduled on Tuesday to chair the subcommittee’s hearing on the nomination of Kurt Volker to be the permanent U.S. representative to NATO. All three presidential candidates are in town for Senate hearings with Gen. David Petraeus and Amb. Ryan Crocker, the top U.S. military and diplomatic leaders in Iraq.
According to the report, in his remarks Obama again mentioned his childhood years in Indonesia and family in Kenya, and blasted Clinton’s claim of visiting more than 80 countries.
“When Senator Clinton brags ‘I’ve met leaders from 80 countries,’ I know what those trips are like. I’ve been on them. You go from the airport to the embassy. There’s a group of children who do native dance. You meet with the CIA station chief and the embassy and they give you a briefing. You go take a tour of a plant that [with] the assistance of USAID has started something. And then you go.
Clinton on Tuesday scoffed at the notion that Obama is more in touch with other countries than her.
“He’s apparently talking about his own experience, which is quite limited,” Clinton said. “You know, for 15 years I’ve been spending a lot of time in other countries,” she said, naming China, Ireland and Kosovo among the places she’s traveled to “where the conversation and discussions were substantive and lengthy.”
“So I’m not quite sure exactly where Senator Obama has been. So far as I know, he’s maybe taken two trips. But that’s fine, I mean, he can say whatever he wishes about his own experience and we’ll leave it up to voters to determine who really is ready to be commander in chief and who is ready to restore America’s standing and moral authority in the world,” Clinton said.

foreign policy experience? what on earth, can anyone please explain to me, has obama done in his first term as an illinois senator that gave him any experience in anything (besides how to vote “present”) let alone experience with foreign policy. And hillary’s constant lying proves she is at least as honest as bill was when he was president.
You can’t just campaign on “change” sooner or later obama is going to have to actually explain what it is he is wanting to “change” and how it is going to be better for the American people. I am so sick of seeing this free ride he has been given so far. Normally still wet behind the ears senators arent considered qualified to hold the most powerful position in the free world. They should show the experience and ability first, then get recommended for the job. then the American people should vote for the best person for the job based on that demonstrated ability and experience - ALL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. not just the superdelegates. everyone’s vote should be equal.
Obama is way out there thinking his experience in Indonesia and Kenya somehow translates to foreign policy experience we need in a president. I would love for him to try and debate that in the fall.
Obama’s never been under sniper fire in a war zone in a foreign country. Then again, as it turns out, neither has Hillary.
Obama is correct to point out the obvious. The trips Clinton took are not foreign policy related. So, for her to claim that she has over 15 years of foreign policy experience is absurd. Bill Clinton was president not her. She was not Co-President. She visited a few countries as First Lady but so do many people in USA. Can they all claim to have foreign policy related experience? This is another example of embellishing her resume just like her Bosnia trip under sniper fire, her opposition to NAFTA. The lies keep adding up. At least Obama lived in Indonesia and has family in Kenya. So, he experienced other cultures in the true form and that will help him when dealing with other world leaders.
hillary you need clean out your own house before you even try to bring moral to other countries
Hillary spent 15 years traveling abroad to line her own pockets. It had nothing to do with foreign polity of the United States. This woman knows no boundaries.
GET LOST HILLARY AND FOLD UP THE TENT.OBAMA HAS NEVER CLAIM TO HAVE LANDED IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND HAD TO DUCK SNIPER FIRE TO GET TO HIS VEHICLE.SHAME ON YOU!
Obama seems to be more experienced; its not how far, but how well. The kind of experience Hillary believes in, is simply cooked.
Hey have you heard because of Hillary there is a new american company? They are marketing a product to replace teflon. It is call Obomified, guaranteed to repel nonsense cooked up to distract people over an extended period of time. Of course it comes with a disclaimer that the product will not work you are just trying to cover up your own nonsense by sticking it onto someone else.
Just like all the other LIES Obama was rattled off durting this campaign, this one tops them all though. He is arrogant, and it will turn people way from him when more about him comes out as the nomination process tightens up in the remainder of states.
Your article should have said “Clinton gave no quarter” not “Clinton took no quarter”. The victor or agressor gives quarter, the defeated takes quarter.
Neither of the Democrat candidates have the experience to be president - think maybe they stayed in a HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS on their campaigns???
Wait, wait, lemme get this straight, HILLARY said this??? “So, you know, I, I ,I don’t, I don’t know, I’m speechless. I mean, you know, making an assertion like that belies the facts and the record.”
Maybe she’s speachless from dodging sniper fire again??? I mean, where *does* she get off saying this sort of thing.
Hillary Clinton has no credibility whatsoever.
The very fact that Obama speaks of the military and foreign policy as though they were one and the same should tell us right there that the guy needs more of an education in all matters presidential. The military and foreign policy are not synonymous. However, they do have one thing in common…Obama has experience in neither. Please, please tell me we aren’t going to put this unqualified, inexperienced man in the position of Democratic nominee for President! Hang in there Hillary!
Give me a break! What foreign policy experience does he have? How, in good conscious, could he say he has more foreign policy experience than John McCain? Even Hillary has more than he does. This issue will be strongly debated come this fall if he is the democratic nominee. The republicans are already gearing up for this one. I just hope, for his sake, that he has something to back up such a statement. If not, then it will not look too good for him come November. I somehow do not believe he does.
Once again….Billary is confused what is real experience!
Being a Governors Wife & First Lady….(Lady is not quite the word) is real experience…she is sadly mistake. She never sat in on any of the real high level meetings or could make any decisions and had no clearances to do so. She was there only as a wife of someone!! Unless she was dodging invisible bullets then she made have attended some imaginary meetings…lol
OOps She’s doing it again extorting the facts, that’s why she is untrustworthy she keeping lying and lying I really don’t think Hilary knows how to tell the truth. She twist and turn facts that suits her, and use’s everyone else’s experience as her own. What does she get all this experience from??????????? HILARY IS A LOSER AND THE ONLY WAY SHE GOING TO DROP OUT OF THE RACE IS WHEN SHE IS DRAGGED OUT BY HER HARIY KICKING AND SCREAMING………
Obama for President!!!!!!!!!
The only experience needed for a Democrat to run for office is to be able to conform their positions to the polls.
Well Obama did just go to St. Bart’s, didn’t he? Couple that with the fact that he lived in Indonesia and heck, of course he should be president. Why stop there though? Let’s make him King of the World!
This guys a joke and if Hillary doesn’t stop him now, I sorely hope McCain does in November.
Clinton thinks she has the experience and moral authority to lead our country because she lives in her own false reality. She and her husband have lied so much and so often that they actually believe the nonsense that falls out of their mouths.
“I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more commander in chief-like. Ironically, this is an area — foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain,” Obama reportedly said.
———-Obama is a walking foreign policy… he will be able to understand other countries based on his own background! Just because you visit a country does not mean you understand the people! Clinton and McCain have both shown they don’t bother with those countries that truly need America’s help or bother to understand their situation! With Obama’s background… he will better understand what is best for our country and how this will effect other countries! Clinton has not spoken a true word this whole campaign…. I want a PRES that will do for the people and not have to tell LIES just to get their point across! HAND IN THERE OBAMA! !!!!!!! ——-
Who in the world.. well, US anyway…believes what either one of these doofs say? They are like little kids saying “my daddy can beat up your daddy”…it gets so tiring..yet comical. Obama saying he is experienced in foreign affairs is a comedic line alone!! It is a shame our comments are private…I believe what I say is in commmon agreement with most but the press acts like these two are responsible and honest and show genuine leadership!! My back side they are!!
Sure hillary has been to a lot of countries, but by her own admission, it has been from the airport to the embassy, she doesn’t have a clue as to how these people live.
Retire hillary , there are plentyof good women to take your place.
While I wouldn’t vote for Hillary or her alleged experience if she was running against Mickey Mouse, for Obama to claim he has more foreign policy experience than McCain is beyond idiotic. Congrats empty suited wonder, you’ve made a couple trips to Kenya. You’re vast military and foreign policy knowledge surely qualifies you as Emporer of Earth.
Up until recently I haven’t personally disliked Obama, just completely disagree with his politics and certainly don’t want him as a Senator much less President, but the more I hear from he and his worshippers the more I dislike him personally.
Hillary, as much distaste as I have for her, is a known quantity; a power mad liar and world class exaggeration artist. Obama is a naive, lying, unknown entity who is hiding something.
Obama probably does not know which side he’s on in the war.
Yeah Hillary, Your CREDIBILITY , HONESTY, and FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE is so far above Obama and McCains’.You should just CONSIDER to tell the truth, maybe it will slip out of your mouth more often.I don’t believe a word she says, truth or lie, because it’s impossible to tell the difference any more. I didn’t start dis-liking you until YOU GAVE ME SEVERAL REASONS TO.I don’t wish anything bad to happen to her ability to keep her campaign going, (don’t quit) but I can’t , and won’t vote for her if she STEALS the nomination.
For Hillary to accuse anyone else of being too busy to check facts or knowing the facts is too funny. Of course, Hillary would know all about not knowing the facts as you insert your foot in your mouth. Wonder if she is enjoying the taste of shoe leather.
When your say you are experience on something that means you did some works on it successfuly in the past.
If you did not do anything that means you don’t have any experience even you can claim that you are very smart.
When you go for a job interview, you can say anything and get a job, then if you can not do thing as you say, people kick you out.
Good Luck.
Oh that’s right…hillary dodged “SNIPER-FIRE” IN BOSNIA, while making 109 million dollars, and lying about the hospital story and her “gutterball” politics.
Sure this makes Hillary an expert on LIES AND DECEIT- but not foreign policy!
The choices are Hillary or McCain. Obama has no clue. He is a marketing product nothing more.
AM I MISTAKEN…..OR DID HILLARY ACTUALLY SAY SHE HAS MORALS????
If you spot it you got it!
