Rev. Jeremiah Wright told a congregation in Norfolk, Va., on Sunday that reporters sneaked into a private funeral service a day before, in which he blasted America’s founding fathers for slavery and white supremacy and received standing ovations for attacking FOX News for covering his anti-American sermons.
Barack Obama’s retiring pastor delivered a sermon at Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, where his late uncle had been the pastor, about overcoming trouble. The public appearance was his first since news broke that the Democratic presidential candidate’s pastor frequently rails on the United States.
“Some troubles that come up in your life come up out of nowhere,” Wright said. At the end of the two-hour-plus service, about two dozen ministers gathered around Wright and his daughter to pray for them. One of the ministers asked God to give Wright courage as “the world tries to demonize him.”
Though Wright said nothing about Obama or the uproar itself, he alluded to the controversy while briefly back in the pulpit Saturday to deliver a eulogy for a late congregant of Trinity United Church of Christ — former appellate judge R. Eugene Pincham.
Wright, who is on sabbatical before retiring from Trinity United, said America’s mistreatment of blacks is the result of the founding fathers, who “planted slavery and white supremacy in the DNA of this republic.”
First reported by The Chicago Sun Times, Wright told mourners at the funeral that Thomas Jefferson, who partook in “pedophilia,” would also be considered unpatriotic these days because he wrote, “God would punish America for the sin of slavery.” He also quoted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who said that the U.S. has a “congenital birth defect.”
Speaking of the seven lessons Pincham taught him, Wright said the judge’s faith “was not the jingoistic, chauvinistic ‘you’re either with us or against us’ demonizing kind of faith.”
“FOX News can’t understand that,” Wright said to rousing cheers and applause. “[Bill] O’Reilly will never get that. Sean Hannity’s stupid fantasy will keep him forever stuck on stupid when it comes to comprehending how you can love a brother who does not believe what you believe. [Pincham’s] faith was a faith in a God who loved the whole world not just one country or one creed.”

The poll reveals that many people don’t believe Obama supports or accepts the views of Mr. Wright. With that understanding, if these same people consider themselves fair and balanced?
I’m curious, if a person hangs out with drug dealers would those same respondents assume the person hanging out with drug dealers are law abiding citizens….or the possibility they also do drugs or accept those who do?
The Reverand, no I don’t think of him as reverand, more like the Devil himself, raving and ranting, what Wright should do is go visit Shreveport Lousians and especially (The Bottoms ) there and he will get a very clear picture of race and the filthy surroundings, I am wondering if any politican has EVER VISITED that area just to see the drunken men laying in layers on their dirt yards while their children go hungry and naked…some politicans would not dare go near there out of fear.it will make you sick as there is NO CURE for this.
Reverend Wright has a mental problem He is obsessed with his hatred for whitey and he just doesn’t know when to quit. If things are so bad and the white man has suppressed him and his, what should he do? Leave the country.
No one is alive that had anything to do with the enslavement of your ancestors and the rest of that crazy talk is all in your mind, Rev. Why don’t you quit whining?
“Reverend” Jeremiah Wright with all his rantings has departed from he call of a Pastor let alone a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Christian faith speaks to forgiveness rather than keeping counts of wrong doings. The sound of the bitterness that is in his soul is the outward evidence that he neither loves His brethren let alone the true gospel that Jesus preached. As mean spirited as Mr Wright sound he is still worthy of prayer from the Body of Christ. We must pray for his repentance and deliverence from the hatred that is imbeded in his soul. One doesn’t need to hear the full sermon to know of what spirit he is preaching from. When preaching from the spirit of Christ the message doesn’t focus on man’s natural condition but on his spiritual condition. Mr. Wright would do better to focus his own soul on Christ and His love for mankind rather than on bringing division to mankind.
Scott, those were not “Salem witches” that the Russians placed in Cuba, just 90 miles off our
Florida coast, in 1961. They were nuclear warheads. In his memoirs, Nikita Khrushchev said
that Russia owed a great debt of gratitude to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for the fact that they
helped provide the technology to enable Russia to possess the atomic bomb. In 1943, an American colonel placed wiretaps which recorded correspondences of Roosevelt and Truman staff members with Moscow. The correspondences of Harry Dexter White, Alger Hiss, Harry Hopkins, Julius Rosenberg, and many others were documented. These documents were declassified and released in 1995, as “the Venona Papers.” When folks speak the term
“McCarthyism,” with sort of a snarling, growl, maybe they also should say “the Venona
Papers” the same way, because they now prove that ol’ Joe was right on the dot!
Ok Wright, who do you love? It’s not white America or a white man is it Wright. Well, maybe one that is porrer than you are, eh?
“comprehending how you can love a brother who does not believe what you believe. [Pincham’s] faith was a faith in a God who loved the whole world not just one country or one creed.” The question is, will Reverend Wright practice what he preaches?
wright is rightweather u like it or not posterity will judge, there some things you dont use against pple especially men of God,you have succeeded in bringing shame to the christian dom[fox news]because of cheap political gain, but one thing i will assure you is that you can never forgive yourself by making a story out of that because it was highly blasphemous.anyway the whole world is watching the progress in america, pls lets us do it right so that others can learn learn from us rather than assasinating characters.
Rev Wright is more of a threat to the set-back of racial harmony in our country than anyone in the last 40 years. My concern for Mr. Obama is that in sitting under his tutorship for 20 years is that he must agree with many and most of Mr. Wright’s philosophies or he would have long ago left. I do not want a President who has such a tutor.
Wright is right. I know we don’t like the ugly truth but, as a true conservative, Caucasian in appearance and Northwest European mutt in ancestry and as a clergy person, I know truth often-times is ugly, it hurts and its voice often grates against our conscience. But he is correct and that church was correct in rallying around him. People, we are letting the press tell us what is important, now they tell us that we should judge a candidate, not on the content of his character or the content of his ideas, but on the words of his or her associates. Have we become such sheep that we cannot recognize the McCarthy-ism, the Salem witch trials, inherent in the press today? It’s a terrible parody of what the press should be. Vote for/against Sen. Obama based on his ability to enact policy that will improve our nation will raise the level of the public square out of the gutter, and consider Sens. McCain and Clinton under that same light. Evaluate their ideas for a future, not the words of someone else.
