POLITICAL WIRE: Obama’s $10k Waffle Breakfast Yanked from eBay

Barack Obama’s half-eaten waffle breakfast, which appeared Monday on eBay with a bid price of $10,100, has been pulled from the site.
The uneaten portions from Obama’s waffle and sausage breakfast were taken from the Scranton, Pa. diner, “the Glider,” Monday morning by a Hillary Clinton supporter who later posted them for sale on the popular auctioning site. She had planned to give all proceeds to Clinton’s campaign.
But food items such as these are prohibited on eBay. “The sale of food is regulated by the federal government and most state governments,” a statement on the site reads. “Sellers who list food and food-related products should familiarize themselves with these laws before listing such items on eBay.”
Obama’s waffle and sausage link—along with the plate and silverware the presidential hopeful used—were advertised for several hours on the site, attracting a sizeable number of prospective buyers.
POLITICAL WIRE: Report Finds McCain Receiving ‘Disability Pension’ from Navy

John McCain is receiving what his campaign has called a “disability pension” from the Navy, according to a report published Tuesday on the Los Angeles Times’ website.
The report claims that McCain—who has long insisted that he is in good health despite questions raised over his medical history—released his tax return for 2007 on Friday and disclosed that he collected a pension of $58,358 not listed as income on his return.
McCain’s campaign called the retirement benefit a “disability pension” and claimed the Arizona senator “was retired as disabled because of his limited body movement due to injuries as a POW,” according to the article.
“Tortured for his country—that is how he acquired his disability,” McCain’s campaign strategist Mark Salter reportedly said Monday.

POLITICAL WIRE: DOJ to Monitor Primary Voting in Philadelphia

The Department of Justice announced it will be monitoring polling sites in Philadelphia on Tuesday to assess how well Hispanic voters are accommodated and ensure the city is in compliance with federal voting rights laws. The department filed a lengthy complaint against the city in 2007, claimed it was in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
The DOJ called for the city to require measures to help Hispanic voters–especially those with poor English skills—at polling locations, and a settlement was later reached to guarantee assistance to those voters . The DOJ will determine if the city has lived up to its agreement.

POLITICAL WIRE: Michael Moore Calls Clinton Tactics ‘Nuts’ and ‘Disgusting’

Political activist and filmmaker Michael Moore called Hillary Clinton’s campaign tactics “nuts” and “disgusting,” and urged Pennsylvanians to cast their votes for Barack Obama in a letter posted Monday on Moore’s website.
Moore wrote that he had no intention of formally backing either Democratic candidate, but has been appalled by Clinton’s “sleazy attempt to smear Obama” as of late. He criticized the New York senator’s remarks during Wednesday’s ABC News democratic presidential debate in which she mentioned Louis Farrakhan—the acting head of the Nation of Islam whose relationship with Obama has been the subject of controversy. Moore accused Clinton of attempting to “scare white people, pure and simple.”
“Yes, Senator Clinton, that’s how you sounded. Like you were nuts. Like you were a bigot stoking the fires of stupidity,” Moore wrote. “How sad that I would ever have to write those words about you. You have devoted your life to good causes and good deeds. And now to throw it all away for an office you can’t win unless you smear the black man so much that the superdelegates cry ‘Uncle (Tom)’ and give it all to you.”

POLITICAL WIRE: Polls Show Clinton Poised for Win in Pa. Primary

Hillary Clinton might well be headed for victory in Tuesday’s Pennsylvania primary, according to two polls released on Monday.
Clinton leads Barack Obama by 10 points (52-42) among likely Pennsylvania Democratic voters in a poll conducted by Suffolk University. Four percent of Democratic voters polled were undecided, and 2 percent declined to respond.
The poll also found that 20 percent of the same Democratic voters said they would vote for John McCain in November if their Democratic choice fails to win the party’s nomination.

Another poll released by Quinnipiac University on Monday found Clinton holding a 7 point lead over Obama (51-44) among likely Democratic primary voters.

The first thing that I would like to say, is that I am parying for your nation - to make the right Choice! Secondly, as someone on the “outside” looking in, I would have to say that I have never seen such manipulative Press reporting in all my life! For instance,I would have thought that someone would “want” change, since they were around so much much things/people that needed change i.e. Washington Politics, radical remarks, etc. Sen. Obama has stated from the beginning of his campaign that he was all about “change”. The media nver once decided to explore the fact that perhaps because of the negative remarks, people and systems that Se. Obama has been around, he has decided to bring about change - and not embrace or support the “old ways’ or people thoughts!

The brightness is wearing off of Senator Obama’s image. People are finding out he is not “The Second Coming”-especially since that last debate. Earlier today your ran a discussion about male reporters not liking or accepting Hillary Clinton. It was suggested that because she was a strong woman that some reporteres had a negative opinion of her.
That’s just silly. I am a 56 year old woman and I do not like Hillary Clinton. I would love to see a woman president and I am all for women in politics. I think they can be very effective.
What I see is a woman who has changed her mind many times during the course of this campaign. I think her comments always have a double meaning. A good example is when she was asked if she believed if Obama was a Christian. Instead of saying yes, she said, “If he says he is… when asked again she said the same thing. She seems rather underhanded and snaps at old politics; the nasty kind.
To me a good president should have the insight to collect the right people around you and listen to them to make decisions. I don’t think Hillary listens to anybody.

John McCain has every right to receive a disability pension from USN. If it is combat related it is tax exempt. Many were left out of it if they were forced to retire early (know as chapter 61 retirees) Last Jan DOD bill finally corrected this for those wounded in combat. They are still waiting however for DOD to get instructions out so CRSC can start being awarded to those chapter 61 folks.
Why is it news that John McCain receives disability payments from the Navy? Certainly he deserves it. With some investigation, you will learn that most retired military personnel receive a percentage of diability based on their retirement physical examination results. That percentage is used to compute a payment for disability that is actually a tax free payment but is deducted from the taxable retirement annuity. So the diability payment reduces the retirement annuity.

He served his country with pride, got nabbed in the rice paddies and was held as a POW for 5+ years. That’s a helluva lot more than I can say for those Liberal bastards, who work for the LA Times. There is at least 10% , and that is being generous, of Americans, let see, if the Census is correct and there are 300 million plus, then that would be least 30,000,000 Americans that are getting disability for not doing anything in there pathetic life. John McCain deserves every penny of the pension. I wish that we could pay our combat veterans even more. Many have sacrificed even more and their widows, widowers and families should be compensated as well.
Why shouldn’t McCain receive a disability pension? Those in Washington are receiving MANY perks and no one seems to question this? McCain made a great sacrifice so that the perks for others go on and on.
McCain should recieve compensation from the Government for almost six years as a Pow.

The disability pension that Senator McCain receives was not named that by his campaign headquarters. It is a federally designated form of renumeration for those injured while on active duty in the United States military. It is that portion of his retired pay not subject to witholding tax. For anyone to imply that he is unfit to serve as President one would only have to look at his vigorous record of service as a United States Senator. He is running for President not squadron fighter pilot.
