Clinton Victory Helps Raise Vital Funds to Continue
WASHINGTON — Turns out Hillary Rodham Clinton ’s victory Tuesday came with a cash prize.
In the hours after winning Pennsylvania’s Democratic presidential primary, Clinton said she had raised $3 million. The campaign said it was her best overnight performance ever.
Clinton, desperate to fight on against a flush Barack Obama, could certainly use the money.
On Sunday, the campaign revealed that at the end of March it had just over $9 million in the bank and $10 million in debt. Obama had more than $40 million cash on hand at the start of April.
Obama has been able to tap a formidable network of donors that now total more than 1.3 million. Clinton has a smaller donor base and only recently has begun to expand it through Internet solicitation. But a greater share of Clinton’s donors have contributed the maximum $2,300 to the primary allowed by law. That means that to stay within sight of Obama, she has to find new donors — not an easy task this late in a campaign.
The money disparity has been evident. Obama spent more than $11 million in broadcast television ads in Pennsylvania to Clinton’s nearly $5 million. It was the most Obama had spent in any single contest so far.
Both campaigns now hurl themselves into Indiana and North Carolina, which hold primaries May 6. Both campaigns already have been spending money in the state, buying ads, setting up field operations and traveling.
But, as he has in contest after contest, Obama is outspending Clinton on television commercials in those states by a ratio of 2-1. He has been on the air in both states since March 28, spending more than $2 million so far in Indiana and nearly $2 million in North Carolina, according to TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, a political ad tracking firm.
Clinton went up with ads April 3 in North Carolina and April 8 in Indiana.
But if Clinton plans to stay in the contest through June 3, May will be an expensive proposition.
A week after May 6, Nebraska and West Virginia hold primaries. A week later, Kentucky and Oregon have contests.
Obama’s campaign wealth has allowed him to already look ahead to Oregon, which holds its primary May 20. Obama has spent more than $100,000 on television ads in Oregon, where residents have until April 29 to register as new voters. To add to the pressure, Oregon voters cast their votes by mail and ballots will begin arriving in households after May 2.
Election night successes have stimulated donors before. Clinton took in $1 million online during the 24 hours following her New Hampshire primary victory in January. She also raised more than $6 million in the three days following the Feb. 5 Super Tuesday elections, when more than 20 states were in contention.
Still, every time Clinton hits a high water mark in fundraising, Obama manages to best her. She recorded a high of $35 million in February only to see Obama hit a record of $55 million. Last month, bound to be slow after such a fundraising frenzy in February, generated a respectable $20 million for Clinton. Obama raised twice as much.
While Clinton has been outspent on ads, both have spent similar amounts on travel. In March, both posted about $5 million in travel expenses. Clinton has to foot the bill for two active surrogates — her husband, the former president, and their daughter Chelsea — have maintained breakneck schedules campaigning for her.
Obama has forced Clinton to chase him with spending, forcing her hand early by eroding her leads in public opinion polls. Clinton once led in Indiana, but Obama now holds a narrow edge in some polls. Depending on how well she can parlay Tuesday’s victory into cash, some Democratic Party strategists believe Clinton may have to shift her money out of North Carolina and into Indiana in hopes of staving off two losses in one day.

You failed to mention he out spent her 4-1 and the news media and pundits sure didn’t help her and she still beat his butt in another electorial rich important state .The voters are having second thoughts abouth this guy and it about time the news media starts questioning him to .
He may be buying his way in, but he will never get my vote. I can’t figure out where his money comes from. For instance, he gets over 90% of the black vote. Do ALL of them have jobs? Does he get money from large corporations looking for a favor? How about the college kids who are supported by Mom and Dad? Where does it all come from? Someone find out
Do you really want to know where his money is coming from? Does any one really believe that he isn’t taking money from lobbyist and big corporations? Perhaps he and his big donors are smart enough to know he can’t look like he is on the take, so they have figured out how to get the money into his campaign in smaller amounts through his web donation site. Also, you can figure that while hard working Americans are struggling to gas up their vehicles to go to their jobs to pay for the mortgage and the groceries and don’t have enough left over to send donations to any candidate’s campaigns, that their hard earned tax dollars going into the hands of the lazy S.O.B’s on welfare and bogus disability are being shelled out to Obama on a regular basis. It’s easier to spend someone else’s money when you know the next check is in the mail and that check is keeping up with inflation more so than if you really worked!!! Personally, I think it is interesting how Obama can make claims about growing up poor, but he has a better education and a better house and salary than anyone I’ve ever met. Wonder if ise grades were really that good or if we can thank affirmative action and college/university quotas? But, the good news is, he sure knows how to spend Americans money, can’t wait to see everyone’s face if he wins in November and his first task as President is a big huge tax increase. Now is that really change we can believe in or is that just typical Democrats?
Sen. Clinton and her disciples continue to whine about Sen. Obama outspending her. The flip slide of spending more money is that Sen. Obama is raising more money. More people are contributing more to him. That’s a position Sen. Clinton would desperately like to be in, and that’s the position she used to be in. And when she was, she treated it as a badge of the inevitability of her victory. Remember those days? So is money good or is it bad? It depends if you have it or don’t have it, Sen. Clinton.
At least she still has that joint bank account to fall back on!
Days after Hillary Clinton removed her chief strategist for taking $300,000 from Colombia’s government to promote a controversial trade pact she opposes, her husband the former POTUS gets exposed for taking nearly $1 million from a Bogota group pushing for the same pact. Longtime Clinton friend and confidante Mark Penn was demoted from his prominent position after it was disclosed that he met with Colombian government officials to help promote a trade pact among U.S. lawmakers that is fiercely opposed by labor unions and the former First Lady. (It must be ok for the HUBBY because it benefits the Clinton’s bank accounts.) Penn had steered Bill’s re-election campaign in 1996 and went on to become a top pollster and campaign message guru for Hillary’s 2000 Senate run.

I recently read a comprehensive story by The Washington Post on 4/11/08 that was posted on M-S-N-B-C’s web site. I believe the title was “Obama’s billionaire backing”.
There is also a two part story at the Canada Free Press web site that raises some interesting questions about Senator Obama’s campaign contributions.
Somebody should investigate the donations made to the Obama campaign. It is strange that he has raised so much money from “individual” donors in such a short period of time. His fund raising organization is owned by a billionaire. It makes you wonder if this billionaire is funeling his money into Obama’s campaign as small donations from individuals. Just a thought.
So what he grew up poor….what does that have to do with his education? He obviously made the best of the opportunities he was given!!! Not all black people are poor, uneducated or products of Affirmative Action…..that is what the media would like you to believe! It is possible to gorw up poor and still make something of yourself!!!! Ivy league education is not something that is only available to white america!!!!
You all could benefit from actually studying black history….we make positive contributions to society also…..
Hill lost a long time ago, get over it.
Her continued fighting is only to ensure McCain wins so that she can attempt to come back in four years.
Hill only cares about winning no matter the cost.
Obama has more money now because the majority of people are contributing to him. Hill already spent all the lobbyist money and thank gods we have laws to prevent them from giving her more.
I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR CLINTON

I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER…
CLINTON CAMPAIGN ORGANIZERS FIND OUT WHERE HIS FINANCIAL SUPPORT COMES FROM… NO ONE BELIEVES HE GETS $20.00 TO $50.00 CONTRIBUTIONS AND THAT ADDS UP TO
55 MILLIONS DOLLARS RAISED AS AT FEBRUARY 08.
CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF THIS IS THE REAL OR NOT

GO HILLARY!!! I logged into Hillary.com right after the Primary and donated another $50.00 to her campagn. I really believe she is the stronger candidate.
You can’t win the presidency without money… but there is a threshold where more money doesn’t mean more popularity. True colors are beginning to shine through the longer this race goes on. Hillary is a steadfast, dependable, tenacious candidate that connects with the majority of Americans. If she got the kind of press that Obama enjoys from most news stations she would have put this contest to bed a long time ago!
Relax Righties. Obama is an OK guy. And watch the bigotry for god sakes, with your affirmative action and welfare recipient donors. I am white and poor but I bought his book and made a $25 donation. If you want to know him read his book, HE wrote it.
I agree totally with Michael’s comment. This women is made of steel. I know she is ready to be the President of the United States. GO HILLARY!!!!
I am still wondering where Obama is getting his vast sums of money. I know that George Soros, the billionaire Hungarian criminal who owns Moveon.org has probably figured out a way to funnel large amounts of money to Obama’s campaign. I’m sure there are others like him doing the same thing. I just don’t believe that blacks and college students are capable of raising that kind of money.
Will somebody please tell Hillary that OPERATION CHAOS is working and she should thank RUSH and his OPERATIVES
$10 million debt?
I think according to their tax return they made around $109 million.
I think they are not losing any sleep.
Hillary 08!!!!
Watch Out Indiana
She will probably go there and say her mom delivered her right there in Indiana when they were on Vacation so she can play another hometown girl story, I swear this woman has lived everywhere!!!
His money is coming from people like me who believe in him. I have never donated to a candidate in my life time. I am a white grandmother on limited funds and contribute every month. The polls do not reflect everyone. Obama reaches across all groups of people who have lost trust in their government. Read his book and see why he is our President of Hope.
May God continue to bless Obama…..
