Obama, McCain Spar on Iraq, Economy as DNC Takes Aim at McCain

April 27: Barack Obama center, attends a church service at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

Barack Obama and John McCain clashed Sunday over Iraq war policy and the economy as the Democratic party aimed a new attack against McCain with an advertisement questioning a remark he made over keeping troops in Iraq for up to 100 years.

In an interview that aired Sunday, Obama praised the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, for the progress he has made in taming sectarian violence there, but said he would set the goal of removing troops in Iraq even if Petraeus — who was nominated this week to take charge of U.S. Central Command — recommended against it.

“I think Petraeus has done a good tactical job in Iraq. I think as a practical matter, obviously, that’s where most of the attention has been devoted from this administration over the last several years,” Obama said on “FOX News Sunday.”

Asked what he would do if Petraeus recommended against withdrawing troops from Iraq — an Obama campaign pledge — Obama said “it would be stupid” not to listen, but in the end, he would keep the goal of withdrawing troops.

“I will listen to General Petraeus given the experience that he has accumulated over the last several years. It would be stupid of me to ignore what he has to say. But it is my job as president, it would be my job as commander in chief, to set the mission, to make the strategic decisions in light of the problems that we’re having in Afghanistan, in light of the problems that we are having in Pakistan, the fact that Al Qaeda is strengthening, as our national intelligence estimates have indicated, since 2001,” Obama said.

He added: “What I would do is I would say — what I will do is say, ‘We have a new mission. It is my strategic assessment that we have to provide a time table to the Iraqi government. I want you to tell me how best to execute this new assignment, and I am happy to listen to the tactical considerations and any ideas you have, but what I will not do is to continue to let the Iraqi government off the hook and allow them to put our foreign policy on ice while they dither about making decisions about how they’re going to cooperate with each other.’ ”

McCain’s campaign fired back a statement over the exchange, saying Obama’s statements were “a complete contradiction of his record.”

“Are we to believe Senator Obama has the strength to take recommendations from General Patraeus, who has advised against immediate withdrawal, when Obama has repeatedly shown that he can’t stand up to the left-wing interests in his party?

“Again, Senator Obama said he would raise taxes on hardworking families during an economic downturn, which makes it clear that he doesn’t understand the American economy. His inconsistencies raised many more questions about Barack Obama’s strength than they answered, and American families cannot afford leadership that can’t deliver,” McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said, according to a campaign statement.

Later in the day, McCain took Obama to task over comments he made regarding taxes.

During the FOX interview, Obama criticized McCain, saying McCain switching his position from opposing President Bush’s tax cuts to later supporting them.

“Somewhere along the line, you know, his conscience took flight because he was looking to get nominated for the Republican — as the Republican nominee,” Obama said.

McCain fired back: “I think that my record is very clear of having had a vigorous proposal for tax cuts, for spending restraint. My efforts at bringing about a restraint in growth of spending are very clear while Senator Obama has supported the spending increases and sought pork barrell projects … causing spending to be completely out of control.”

Focusing on Obama’s support of raising taxes, including the capital gains tax, McCain said Obama “has no understanding of the economy and that he is totally insensitive to the hopes and dreams and ambitions of 100 million Americans who would be effected by his almost doubling of the capital gains tax, not to mention his desire to increase the cap on social security, which again would have a devastating tax increase effect on Americna families. He is out of touch with the economy.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee’s new ad leveled against McCain is part of a half-million-dollar, three-week national cable television campaign aimed at linking the Arizona senator to the policies of President Bush.

The ad set to begin airing Monday accuses McCain of wanting to remain in Iraq for “maybe 100″ years, a link to a remark McCain made in January while campaigning in New Hampshire. The ad concludes, “If all he offers is more of the same is John McCain the right choice for America’s future?”

Since then, McCain has repeatedly said he has no intention of extending the war into the next century, but would keep a U.S. military presence in Iraq much as the United States has in Germany, Japan and South Korea.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said Sunday that McCain is “wrong” and “out of step” with public sentiment on the war.

“We’re not arguing that he’s going to be in war for a hundred years. We don’t think we ought to be in Iraq for a hundred years under any circumstances,” Dean said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“Think of the hundreds of billions of dollars that are being spent in Iraq which we need right here at home to preserve American jobs. … Secondly, if Senator McCain believes that you can occupy a country like Iraq for a hundred years without having a long war and violence and troops being hurt and killed, I think Senator McCain is wrong,” Dean said.

Citing a poll, Dean said 70 percent of Americans do not want troops to stay in IRaq under any circumstances, adding, “He is out of step with the American people.”

The Democratic candidates have also acknowledged they would keep non-combat troops in Iraq to ensure its stability. But they have said they would begin withdrawing combat troops promptly upon becoming president, a step McCain has said would be precipitous.

McCain first uttered the comments about the 100 years in Iraq in response to a question during a January town hall meeting in New Hampshire, saying he’d be “fine” with a long-term U.S. commitment in Iraq.

“President Bush has talked about our staying for 50 years, maybe 100. We’ve been in Japan for 60 years, in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or killed,” McCain said at the time.

As recently as March, Obama linked the troop presence to ongoing war, but has since tailored the message to ongoing troop presence, versus continued fighting.

The DNC has been organizing a drumbeat against McCain at the state party level to coincide with McCain’s travels across the country.

Meanwhile, Obama has become a Republican target. The North Carolina Republican Party aired an ad, over McCain’s objections, that uses remarks by Obama’s former pastor to portray Obama as too extreme. The ad points out that the two Democrats running for state governor have endorsed the Illinois senator.

Freedom’s Watch, a conservative group, and the National Republican Congressional Committee are running ads in Louisiana criticizing Obama’s health care proposal and linking him to a Louisiana congressional candidate.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

As a native Vermonter, I can tell you that if you listen to Howard Dean and follow his lead, I have an half an old, leaky covered bridge I can sell you cheap ..

Just think - he was behind the current mess with the Michigan and Florida primaries, and now all those Democrat voters are disenfranchised in choosing a Presidential candidate. . Brilliant.

Dean has his facts wrong or incomplete: Americans do not want to surrender in Iraq! That does not mean that 70% want no troops in Iraq.

Dean and Obama, no matter what they say, have no respect for military opinion, making them dangerous to lead the country.

Comment by Meli

Does any of this really matter? In a Vunerable economy and the War in Iraq…The only thing that matters is choosing someone for the next four years with EXPERIENCE PERIOD.
MCCAIN is the choice…clear and simple..

America is fed up with the DRAMA of OBAMA and Hillary.
Time to move forward.

Anyone with even an ounce of intellect knows precisely what McCain meant. But, considering the types of people the Democrats are attempting to reach this add may be effective, even though it is utterly stupid.

Regarding troop withdrawal -
Obama says he would “listen” to Gen Petraeus but do what he wants “in the end” anyway, ie: surrender. This from a guy that is running from Ms. Clinton, he won’t debate her face-to-face. What’s he going to do when a really tough decision must be faced, hid under his wife’s skirt or ask Wright for devine intervention??

Whether you are supporting McCain, Obama or Clinton… I think we can all agree that Howard Dean is not the type of person that should be leading a political party. He’s far too emotional… and willing to say anything and everything (accurate or not) to get his points across!
Perhaps he should focus on solving the Michigan/Florida issue rather that wasting DNC resources on smearing McCain!

We’ve had a military base at Guantanamo, Cuba for more than 100 years against the wishes of the Cuban government. We’ve had troops in Germany and Japan for more than 60 years, and troops in South Korea for more than 50 years. If having troops in Iraq for 100 years is so bad, doesn’t it make sense to withdraw our troops from Cuba, Germany and Japan first ? I’m not advocating doing that. I would just like Senator Obama’s answer to this question.

How can we elect a person who will listen to a man with years of experience, but do the opposite.Isn’t it amazing that there are more registered democrates than republicans and we still have a republican president. Does than not show their lack of judgement.

I think that John McCain has paid his dues to our country by being a Navy pilot, shot down and captured by the North Vietnamese communists. He spent quite a few years as a prisoner of war and was tortured.

His public view on abortion is bad as far as I’m concerened but going into the voting booth I think he’d be a good choice!

Comment by steve lee

This just proves that Obama has no knowledge of our military history.

We are still in South Korea for more than 50 years. We are still in Germany after
all this time. If he can’t figure out what McCain was saying maybe he should
wait until he retakes an American History class.

Obama just wants to hide behind a sound bite so no one can see how little
experience and knowledge he has.

I feel that the war in Iraq is being dragged out while the enemy is hoping the democrats get elected. They have influenced other countries, right? Don’t the Dems know that “united we stand, divided we fall?” I fear not. They are too hungry for power to consider what all
of the people in the U.S. might have to go through if pulling out of Iraq gives the country To Al-Quida. Doesn’t anyone of our “astute politicians” think about or remember 9/11?

Well, here you go McCain. You wanted to wage a “civil” campaign against the Democrats, and they are already running ads that consciencely mischaracterize statements you have made. The Democrats are going to run you through the wall, all the while every other day you will be calling for someone to denounce an ad or repute a statement. Get with the program McCain; fight fire with fire, go for the jugular, and get your hands bloody.

Obama is contradicting his own statement. Will he do the same when he becomes President? Nothing surprises me anymore!!!!!

It is clear what John McCain said and it was not that we remain at war for 100 years. Anyone who is educated on the speech acknowledges that. What Obama is doing is hoping for the votes of the uneducated masses by lying about the statement. This is exactly what an elitist does. They try to speak to they feel are the stupid, uneducated masses who he feels cling to their guns and religion and believes he knows what is best for them.

Anyone reading this that is educated knows this to be true. That being said, we then can surmise Obama is clearly a liar.

To me McCain is telling it “like it is” and Obama is distorting McCain’s words, trying to twist the words into sound bites that are half-truths, or even lies when taken out of context. America is in serious trouble if Obama becomes our Commender-In-Chief!

Comment by Bill

Let’s see…Obama wants to reunite the country. He thought it was noble of McCain to request pulling of the Reverend Wright ad in NC. He then keeps taking a quote out of context. But then again, he campaign against NAFTA, but contacted Canada and said he didn’t really meant it. He tells an audience in San Francisco that people are bitter about loss jobs so they hang onto their religion and guns. He then said he was sorry if it offended people and then migrated to that is not what I really meant. He is offended by Don Imus stating that he doesn’t want to his girls to hear hatred, but then he takes them to a church that has some obvious hate-filled and racist remarks. It is difficult to reunite DNC, people, and a country when you say one thing, then say another.

How sickening can one human being be than that man and all his cronies. All I can say is ‘GOD BLESS AMERICA”.

Barak Obama can say anything he wants it doesn’t matter because he would be trying to cozy up with Iran in a minuite. That would be far worse than being in Iraq for 100 years. I don’t think McCain even has to worry about the DNC because if Barak Obama represents the party 50 percent of democrats will vote Republican in the fall.

I feel that Senator Obama is counting on average working class American’s ignorance on economic issues. Promising them big freebies while touting a tax on the rich. Which is really not the rich as most people define it. He defines “rich” as anyone earning over 75K a year. This includes most working class two income families. As for Iraq. Lets just go ahead and pull out like cowards and hand it on a platter to Iran. Wow Iran in Iraq……. that should really help oil prices….NOT

Obama had the nerve to tell McCain to shut up about Obama’s positions? McCain is being very very nice to Obama. Obama whines,”foul,” when anyone opens their mouth! How can you discuss things when you shut your oponents up?
McCain is being very nice to Obama and he really shouldn’t be. You have to shut up or Obama yells, “RACE” or “You’re being nasty.” He is such a wimp. Obama doesn’t know what mean and nasty is. Hillary is also handling Obama with kid gloves. Why do they let this wimpy baby get away with crying all the time. The rest of the world is laughing at Obama. Let’s face it. Concerning Iraq, the Democratic Party and candidates want to get in office and will say what ever to get there. They would be fools to do what they did with Vietnam, ie: cutting off funding and abandoning Iraq. We may be fooled once but we are not a dumb nation of followers. America is about freedom and those who are not about that aren’t acting in our best interests.

We may not like it, but we know we can’t be a free nation and live in isolation to the world. Our only hope for long lived freedom and prosperity for ourselves and our children is to continue to stand for freedom and aid our wonderful human peoples throughout the world to a better life.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean cited a poll indicating that 70% of Americans do not want troops to stay in Iraq “under any circumstances”. It is difficult to believe that 70% of Americans are unpatriotic and care nothing about the security of our nation. Or perhaps this poll came from a selected militant terrorist group of Obama supporters. Regardless, Howard Dean is trying to instill, by lie and deceit, the “gain power at any cost” attitude into the American voters.

Before you vote for any candidate based undocumented propaganda, please the check integrity, knowledge, experience, qualifications, rancid baggage, etc. of the candidate.

Comment by Charlene P

If it wasn’t so frustrating I would find it humorous that Obama’s key campaign slogan is “change”. His strength is politics. He has not proven himself in any way to have the strength or experience to handle the huge job of being Commander in Chief. The only thing he has proven himself to be good at is to make promises, many of which are ridiculous, and others that are frightening (like announcing a date to the terrorists regimes of the world as to when the US will no longer be a nuisance to them in Iraq.) He is no different from other Democratic politicians. He makes promises, as if as the President of the United States he will have a magic wand to solve the unique problems of each American. The one promise that he will surely keep, however, is the promise to raise taxes on millions of us. Great. Yippee.

Comment by EALY

Charlene P,

so exactly how many milliions of Americans make over 100k a year that you know of?? these are the people obama proposes to raise taxes. im in iraq right now and and i have accumulated tons of friends both military and civilian. the honorable general petreaus who is doing a fine job ill add, is the only person i know of that makes that kind of money. as for Mr. Hanawalt, obama propose that we put more troops in afghan. and pakistan where terorist tend to relax worry free instead of focusing solely on iraq. i love how u guys pick and choose words spoken from Obama. the man has a common sense plan for this country that of course isnt 100% fullproof jus the same as any plan. no matter how u twist his words and label him a terrorist because of his middle name, the people have spoken and this race is won already.

Comment by Harrington

To chuck,

Regardless of whether or not Dean’s 70% figure was correct, why are you assuming that because the majority of Americans support a withdrawal of troops, they must therefore be unpatriotic? Yes, there have been recent polls by ABCNews stating a 41/56 split on those supporting troop numbers in Iraq and those who favor pullout (or according to you, “care nothing about the security of our nation). Being patriotic means caring about the welfare of your country’s soldiers and citizens. You honestly believe that continuing to put our armed forces in harm’s way, in a country where we have no business to be in is the “patriotic” thing to do?

However, I did enjoy your hinting that the poll respondents were “from a selected militant terrorist group of Obama supporters.” Gave me a good laugh.

Comment by chuck

Caution to North Carolina voters: The 2 Democrats running for governor have endorsed Barack Obama for president.

Comment by Ken C.

Ealy,

Not too many in the military make over 100K a year. As a 14 year veteran of the Marine Corps, I can certainly attest to that. But let me tell ya, living in or around a big city with a family to support and making 100K a year is nothing special at all. I can attest to that as well.

This is why Obama is out of touch and will ultimately not be elected. He wants to claim middle class people are rich, snobby SOB’s and that they owe more money to the government. Somehow he thinks the government does a good job with the money it handles. Now out of touch is that??!!

Comment by John

Personally, I think that Mr. Obama does not have the experience nor the expertise to to be the commander in chief of our country. Mr. McCain on the other hand, even though I disagree with many things he says, has had both military experience and knows the way things work in Washington. As far as being a republican or democrat goes, I don’t really care what they call themselves. Each individual must be judged on their own merits.

Everyone with an ounce of intelligence knows what Senator McCain meant when he mentioned 100 years. Only an idiot like the democrats would try to make something out of nothing. The democrats sure don’t give the American people any credit for having any brains, well I guess they did get elected so whose to blame. We are. Need I say more. Obama will hand our Country to Iran on a silver platter and we will be to blame. Wake up all you people, America needs you to be strong, Stand together and protect America. Japanese people are happy because we are always threatened from North Korea.

We are thankful for America to protect us for a long time. Obama has NO idea what he is talking about. I can here legally under the circumstances and it took almost two years in Japan to process for getting Green Card but it didn’t bother me. It’s very hard to give up my citizen so I probably keep my Green card for a long time. I’m proud of what I am but I just want to say that Obama has no knowledge. That guy never be able to lead the U. Didn’t the Dems run in ‘06 on the promise that they’d get the US out of Iraq immediately? Where does the child of a single mother, raised by his grandparents, gain the ability to attend ivy league colleges and own million dollar homes while never having a job that produced anything? Especially when all the while attending a church that hates white people and hates America. Add his marriage to a woman that until a moment ago had no reason to be proud to be an American.

Now he want’s to my president?

Really?

At this point I don’t think our miltary goals are just about achieved in Iraq. We willbe reducing our presence there and changing the mission from combat to training and support. I don’t see any need for more than 75,000 tropps by the end of 2009. However, McCain is right in saying that that much reduced presence might be needed for an undetermined period (the shorter the better) even after the mission has been changed. I would tend to believe that the Iraqi force build-up will take approimately half of a generation of a typical officer’s career. In other words after approximately 10 years the Iraqi army will be able to have an effective feed-back loop of training for its own troops and will not need much of anything form us.

I’d like to think that if McCain had been elected in 2000, we would never have invaded Iraq. We never would have accumunlated this horrible national debt that will cause most of us — except for those “have REALLY mores” — to bear a finanacil burden created by Washington egos and the politics of creating fear. We would not have had our military strecthed to and beyond its limits, making us more vunerable than before 9/11.

But, now McCain is stuck with having to defend the invasion. and keeping us in Iraq.

That means he’s stuck with increasing, not reducing, the national debt.

Ron Paul actually had it right.

I for one am proud of our president and first lady, GWB is a man of decisiveness and a good Christian. As far as I can see he has always had the good of this country a top priority and has followed through with what he has set out to do, including what has been going on in Iraq, he went in looking for weapons of destruction, and because they where hidden and still are the dems have jumped all over him, he has done much good for that country freeing them from oppression from a horrible dictator allowing the women to walk the streets without fear and hold jobs and get an education and most important freed the country to have a democratic elections and government. Sure we have lost sons and daughters through all this but isn’t that what we have always done when we are trying to protect our country from people that are trying to hurt us. I have a grandson who served in Iraq and is still in the military and ready to go back if called upon and also I have a granddaughter who just enlisted in the army, I am proud to say we still have patriotism in our family, they salute the flag with their hand over their heart , they and our family proudly sing the national anthem, I know lives will still be lost and I am sad and I pray for them daily, but I also believe in the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST. We must never give up on our country, the young people that are putting their lives on the line to keep us safe or our president who is doing the job he set out to do to ensure we are protected and safe. As for this congress I am ashamed of them for their pettiness an inability to get anything accomplished but trash the current administration for everything they don’t like, but with no plans of their own to help make this country the best it can be, they are like a bunch of whining children and their two presidential candidates are the same, shame on them all. Vote for McCain to ensure we keep this country on the track GWB has so gallantly lead us to keep us safe, he has not always been perfect in his decisions, but that is a human frailty we all have. GOD BLESS AMERICA

I am based in the United Kingdom and most of us in the UK are very intrigued by the American election process.
What really gets me is how race and gender decides who you vote for and this happens to be the country that tells the whole world how to have a democratic systems. You have the Jewish vote, the black vote, white middle class vote, the white highly educated vote, womens vote, hispanic vote, liberal vote and christian conservative vote.
Why is America afraid of change and all you are talking about is chosing somebody with great experience. When we choose Tony Blair our former Prime minister, we wanted change. He had no experience but he had a vision for us and we gave him a chance to bring the vision to reality. For the 10 years he ruled he was fantastic. So why don’t you give Obama a change with a new approach to politics or why don’t you consider Hilary Clinton as the first woman president. I am surprised that the greatest democracy in the world has never choosing a woman president. We in the UK did that 29 years ago when we chose Margret Tharcher.

Patriotism should’t be judged as to whether you support the troops in Iraq or not. Patriotism is an understanding of pride for and an understand of what is best for your own country. I don’t think people who scream “USA, USA,USA”, or thouse who are the first to say “We should nuke ‘em” are patriots. Having our brave military running to 2-3-4 countries around the world to fight wars is not patriotism. It’s none of our concern about freedom for the Iraqi people, or the Afganistani people, or the Somalis, or the Darfur region etc. etc. Or even for Israel.
Patritiotism is a concern for the well-being and interests of our own people on our own soil, fixing our economy, helping our own poor and unemployed, and those without health insurance.
Patriotism isn’t grabbing the flag and running off to defent the people of “Outer Mongolia” etc. against tyranny and opression. Patriotism is taking care of our own country.

Mr Obama needs to get a grip on reality. Some people just about have a few dollars after bills and food expenences. Im sure it doesnt matter to him if taxs are raised, but to working familys
its a concern. A vote for Osama is a Vote for defeat

Chuck, name one thing that you’ve done for America and one thing that makes you qualified to make the comments you’ve made, other than the 1st Amendment.

What part of Iran saying they will destroy Israel, and America, and they now have 9000 Centrifuges, doesn’t Obama understand. Leave Iraq, watch the genocide of the IRAQI people and prepare for bombings in America. THAT IS WHAT RUNNING FROM OUR ENEMIES WILL BRING.
Oh yea, he along will Clinton will tax us to death.

I am an independent voter who would never vote for Sen. Obama. His negative baggage gets heavier each day. Rev. Wright is a racist. L. Farrakhan is a racist. William Ayers is a terrorest. Ted Kennedy, remember Mary Jo. Al Sharpton, he’s well known for his views. Sen. Obama, his bitter remark, his lack of experience and his voting record show him to be the fartest left of anyone in the Senate. He has never sponsored any bipartisan legislation. His carefully crafted mirage will be exposed in the general election if he is the nominee.

Any insult from Howard should be compliment. John Mcain is to solid and can throw a hard punch! Obamas glass jaw will shatter like glass, wait and see!! Terrost for Obama.

Comment by Ron C

I think Obama is not what he protrays to be and is certainly not experence to run this country.
We are at war with people that hate everything we stand for and now is not the time to have some rookie that came from no where. People ,we’er in for the long haul and the sooner we accept it the better off we’ll be, we live in a world of hate and the only way we are going to survive is to have a leader with experence. Bottom line I go with experence anytime.

Senator McCain:

Explain to me how raising the social security $$ limit would have a “devastating effect” on the middle class? Raising it “WAY PAST” the current figure would have ZERO effect on the middle class—we don’t make the top limit as it is! Wake up, Senator, or you’ll lose my vote!

AQI didn’t exist until our attack and occupation of Iraq. We’re the terrorists in this case. Post it FoxNews.

Obama is a joke. Read what he says. He doesn’t know what he is saying. He is patently ridiculous.

Comment by lauri

How typical is this! Typical Democratic smoke screen! I hear the Dems say that the Republicans play dirty and low down. But what I am hearing and seeing is the Dems playing negative and always on the attack.
I was so turned off by Kerry and now I see it is just a Dem thing. I guess if you can keep McCain on the defensive he won’t have a chance to campaign on issues. Not only that people will be distracted from the junk on the Dem side.
Well, we are not so stupid to think that McCain and Bush are joined a the hip or the head. They are totally different. the 100 year comment is taken out of context something republicans are continuously accused of lately. One thing is for sure OBama is clueless. He talkes out of both sides of his mouth. One side Petraeus is great the other I don’t care what you say I’m pulling out. Double talk. Now that is a change!

John Dean, who could not make the lime light when he ran for the Democratic Presidential Nomination last time is a loser, has been and always will be. His only road to notoriety was to become the head ot the DNC (do nothing committee). Get a life!!!!

Comment by Ed Merritt

Obama talks about change, what is he going to change. He has no plan. I will not vote for Him or Hillary unless they state their goals and put America first, as neither seems to want to do.
They both speak out of both sides of the mouth, Left and further Left.

Comment by K Kyazze

Immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq! It sounds unserious and rediculous and proves the Obama’s inability to police the world. It would be just providing the Al-Quaeda nests of Afghannstan, Pakstan, Somalia, e.t.c a training ground.

Excuse me Adam. Do I reac you correctly?

Oh, now THIS is good…McCain is saying Obama doesn’t know economics???

Didn’t McCain flat-out tell everyone a few weeks back that he doesn’t know much about it, and considers it one of his weaknesses?

How does THAT not scare people? McCain not knowing a thing about the economy could put us in a situation far, FAR worse than anything Obama could ever do.

Think about THAT for a minute.

Comment by Cindy Gia

I don’t know about the general public’s opinion but I am tired of the mud-slinging and the “out of context” excuses and remarks. Mud-slinging is mud-slinging and remarks of hatered have no place in this world. It’s he said this and he said that. What are we two years old?
The United States economy is the most complex economy systems in the world. I do believe that Obama does not clearly understand the economy and that it is more than just one person that controls the economy. It is not just the government, it is households and firms as well.
I also feel that both candiates are not looking at what can happen into the future. They are not thinking of the consequences that could happen if taxes are raised. In order to efficently run and tackle tough issues, both candidated need to inform the general public. I think that some of the candidates rely on the stupidity of some of the American people. This in my opinion is sad and degreating to U.S citizens as a whole. I am asking this from each candidate. Please be truthful and honest with us, you work for us, we do not work foryou.

Comment by Cindy Gia

I think you read the comment correctly. Of course this comment is a complete fallacy and I would love for Adam to back up his comment. Until then I just blow it off as someone who has no clue.

Obama keeps saying he doesn’t want to get into the “Old Washington politics” but yet he runs a smear campaign against McCain. This guy is a joke. Every bit of dirt that comes up, he gives the same disassociation speech. It frightens me that someone so unfit to be President can get this close to a nomination.

Comment by Eric Burns

All of you McCain fans get a clue. How do you think he is so different from Bush? The Republicans have ruined to country. McCain will funish us off. Bush used scare tactics, every day their was a terror alert what happen, do the terrorist not want to attach us? Were the most powerful country. Their should be jobs, gas prices should be low, McCain supporters get a clue!!!!!!!!

Comment by Babs

Why is the WHOLE TRUTH never given? McCain voted against Bush’s tax cuts BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE HAD A BETTER PLAN THAT WENT FURTHER THAN BUSH’S. When Bush’s plan was approved, his own plan was no longer an issue, so he supported Bush’s. What is so hard to understand about that? I am so sick of half-facts. McCain’s “100 yr.” comment is also totally mangled. Anyone that has the brain to think knows what he meant by that. As far as Obama goes, WAKE UP AMERICA! Not only is he totally ignorant, I would truly question his loyalty to the United States. Look at the facts with an open mind. Be HONEST in evaluating Obama, Clinton, and McCain. If you are, and you honestly want what our founding fathers meant for our country to be, you will see that McCain is the best choice. If you want God to be removed from our country, terrorists to gain a foothold in the U.S., communism to flourish in our country, abortion(murder) on demand, vote Clinton or Obama. We will get just what we ask for, and we will answer for our choices.

Comment by Tired of the Rhetoric

OK Mr. Obama… You don’t even know the proper terms. The President/Commander-in-Chief sets POLICY. The Combatant Commander (CENTCOM Commander) makes the Strategic Decisions based on that policy. Tactical operatations and decisions are made at the Corps-level and below.

You do not have the experience or knowledge base to be the President.

Comment by Debbie

I am a lifelong Democrat and am not eager to vote for McCain for President, though I have the greatest admiration for the honorable and courageous way he served his country. However, if the Democrats leave me to choose between McCain and Obama in the general election, I will choose McCain for one reason and one reason only. McCain has more substantive experience to run this country. Obama has nothing close to the experience, perspective, insight, or grasp of world issues needed to be President of the United States. If only Obama’s ego hadn’t been greater than his wisdom. He would have most certainly been President someday. Now, if he’s the nominee, he runs the very high risk of effectively ending his political career at age 46 in a significant loss to McCain this November. Thanks for nothing Obama and DNC!

Eric-
Please let me know how the republicans have ruined our future. What evidence do you have to back this fallacy up? You made a statement with no truth or facts, this is not a time to demean or degrade. This is a time to look at both sides with an open mind and decide for you what are complete fallacies and what is not. You alone know what is best for you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however back it up.

Comment by Cindy Gia

Oh and Eric I believe it was the Democrats who used the scare tactic about Social Security. Turn around is fair play but I do not see any scare tactics used by Republicans.

Here we go again. Dean and Obama, both leftist radicals, make mistatements about Iraq and the economy. Apparently, both want another Viet Nam. They both have a warped sense of reaality. To bail from Iraq before the Iraqi Government can stand on its own is pure insanity, inviting insurgent attacks on American intrests. I never want to see another President that has not served in the military. Obama is simp[ly NOT QUALIFIED to run the military or the USA. Furthermore, Democratic tax and spend policy will ruin America. Democratic socialist policies dimply cannot work. Americans are already on the brink of poverty because of the escalation of fuel prices. The economy is in trouble primarily because fuel prices are driving the transportation industry into bankruptcy. Higher travel fares are resulting massive cutbacks in business travel, not to mention summer travel which generates revenue in so
