Rev. Wright Taunts Journalists, Blasts Government
April 28: The Rev. Jeremiah Wright taunts the national media in Washington, D.C.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright grabbed the spotlight for the fourth day in a row Monday with a taunting and mocking speech that once again cast a shadow on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
Wright, the former pastor of the Chicago church where Obama is a member, provoked and chided a group of journalists gathered in Washington on Monday during remarks and a question-answer session at the National Press Club.
And he mocked people from the moderator — a USA Today reporter — to the vice president as he criticized the national media for not understanding the black church, and as he re-expressed his criticism of the U.S. government’s culpability for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and other points of contention.
Obama, in a widely praised speech in Philadelphia on March 18, tried to put to rest questions over his relationship with Wright, but Wright on Monday likely provided new fodder for Obama’s detractors.
In response to a question about Obama’s speech, Wright said, “Several of my white friends and several of my white, Jewish friends have written me and said to me. They’ve said, ‘You’re a Christian. You understand forgiveness. We both know that if Senator Obama did not say what he said, he would never get elected.
“Politicians say what they say and do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls, Huffington, whoever’s doing the polls. Preachers say what they say because they’re pastors. They have a different person to whom they’re accountable.”
In response to a question over whether he owed the American people an apology over his saying “God damn America,” Wright wrapped in an aside to say he would not let Obama off the hook, either, if he becomes president.
“I said to Barack Obama last year, ‘If you get elected November the 5th, I’m coming after you, because you’ll be representing a government whose policies grind under people.’ All right? It’s about policy, not the American people.”
Wright continued: “And if you saw the Bill Moyers’ show, I was talking about — although it got edited out — you know, that’s biblical. God doesn’t bless everything. God condemns something — and d-e-m-n, ‘demn,’ is where we get the word ‘damn.’ God damns some practices.”
And, asked if he was disappointed that Obama put distance between himself and Wright, Wright said: “He didn’t distance himself. He had to distance himself, because he’s a politician, from what the media was saying I had said, which was anti-American. He said I didn’t offer any words of hope. How would he know? He never heard the rest of the sermon. You never heard it.
“I offered words of hope. I offered reconciliation. I offered restoration in that sermon, but nobody heard the sermon. They just heard this little sound bite of a sermon.”
When moderator Donna Leinwand of USA Today followed up with a question about whether Obama was a regular attendee, or if he dozed during services, Wright aimed his response back at the moderator.
“He goes to church about as much as you do. What did your pastor preach in the last week? You don’t know?” he said.
University of Virginia Center of Politics director Larry Sabato said Wright is dragging down Obama’s campaign.
“This is not helpful to them. Remember, Barack Obama is trying to run a post-racial campaign because after all, he has to win tens of millions of votes among whites, Asians, Hispanics, in order to get elected president,” Sabato told FOX News. “African American votes are a good base. That will be maybe 10 percent of the overall turnout, but it’s not nearly enough.”
Sabato said Wright represents one of the “worries” for the Obama campaign that can lose him votes.
“I think he (Obama) has to distance himself further, probably continuously, between now and the November election if he’s the nominee. … Obama has to hope that Jeremiah Wright enjoys this time on the stage and then maybe takes a long trip abroad in September or October,”“I think when politics doesn’t work for people its because its become about that politicians ambitions. When you become—when politicians are most passionate about their political survival, that’s when they get really fired up, is because they’re worried about losing, that’s when you end up losing your focus, that’s when you go astray, that’s when you start being willing ot say anything or do anything, and that’s what I’ve been trying to guard against and my faith helps me do that.”
Sabato said.
Democratic strategist Bob Beckel tells FOX that Wright’s moment in the spotlight serves to improve his image.
“I think it softens his edge, but I think enough is enough,”“I think when politics doesn’t work for people its because its become about that politicians ambitions.
Beckel said, agreeing that time out of the spotlight for Wright would aid in improve Obama’s chances.
Wright also said:
– American soldiers in Iraq have died “over a lie” and called the war “unjust.”
– In response to a question on his patriotism: “I served six years in the military. Does that make me patriotic? How many years did (Vice President Dick) Cheney serve?”
– Regarding his comments after Sept. 11 that “chickens have come home to roost”: “Jesus said do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You cannot do terrorism on other people and expect it never to come back on you. Those are biblical principles, not Jeremiah Wright bombastic, divisive principles.”
But during his remarks, Wright also sought to put space between what he called “attacks” on the black church and possibilities for racial harmony.”The most recent attack on the black church, it is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright, it is an attack on the black church,” Wright said.
He frequently criticized the press, but also said the heightened scrutiny of him and the black church could serve as a bridge for reconciliation and a decrease in the kinds of racial hatred that were exhibited during slavery, apartheid and by groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.
“Maybe this dialog on race … can move the people of faith in this country from various stages of alienation and marginalization to the exciting possibility of reconciliation.”
Obama’s association with Wright came into question after media reports this spring examined speeches over the years by Wright. At one point he bellowed, “God damn America,” and he has referred to the United States as the “U.S. of KKK-A.” Wright recently retired as senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Obama has attended for the past 20 years.
The pastor has set out to set the record straight, last Friday appearing on Moyers’ PBS program, Wright’s first interview since the controversy erupted. Over the weekend, Wright gave two sermons and made an appearance at an NAACP event Sunday night in Detroit.
On Monday, his address in Washington was part of a two-day symposium on the African-American religious experience being hosted by Howard University.
On the Campaign Trail
But the controversy isn’t appearing to go away.
On Monday, Obama largely avoided the subject. Facing a question about religion at a town hall event in Wilmington, N.C., he did not mention Wright’s name, saying “when politicians are most passionate about their political survival, that’s when they get really fired up, is because they’re worried about losing, that’s when you end up losing your focus, that’s when you go astray, that’s when you start being willing ot say anything or do anything, and that’s what I’ve been trying to guard against and my faith helps me do that.”
And even though last week, Republican presidential candidate John McCain condemned the North Carolina GOP for focusing on Obama and Wright’s relationship in a new advertisement, another ad — this time in Mississippi congressional district race — has surfaced.
The ad comes from Republican candidate Greg Davis, who is running against Democrat Travis Childers.
The ad says: “Obama says Childers will put progress before politics, but when Obama’s pastor cursed America, blaming us for 9/11, Childers said nothing. When Obama ridiculed rural folks for clinging to guns and religion, Childers said nothing. Travis Childers: He took Obama’s endorsement over our conservative values. Conservatives just can’t trust Travis Childers.”

In an interview with “FOX News Sunday” this weekend, Obama admitted his relationship with Wright is a political issue. The title of Obama’s best-selling book, “The Audacity of Hope” is borrowed from one of Wright’s sermons.
“I think that people were legitimately offended by some of the comments that he had made in the past,” Obama said. “The fact that he is my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue. So I understand that.”
But, Obama said, “it is also true that to run a snippet of 30-second sound bites, selecting out of a 30-year career, simplified and caricatured him, and caricatured the church. And I think that was done in a fairly deliberate way.”
While McCain has denounced the North Carolina GOP ad, he was critical of Wright on Sunday, criticism that drew a rebuke from the Obama campaign.
McCain told reporters that after seeing newly surfaced Wright speeches comparing U.S. Marines to Roman legions that killed Jesus and a comparison between Al Qaeda and American flags, “I can understand why Americans, when viewing these kinds of comments, are angry and upset.”
“By sinking to a level that he specifically said he’d avoid, John McCain has broken his word to the American people and rendered hollow his promise of a respectful campaign. With each passing day, John McCain acts more and more like someone who’s spent twenty-six years learning the divisive, distracting tactics of Washington. That’s not the change that the American people are looking for,” Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugnan said.
On Monday, when reporters sought comment from Hillary Clinton on the Wright’s latest remarks, she said, “I regret the efforts by the Republicans to politicize this matter, and I believe that if Senator McCain were serious, he would do more than send a letter” to put a stop to the North Carolina ad.
“I think he could very clearly tell the North Carolina part, tell the Mississippi party, that he would not tolerate those kinds of advertisements. And I’m waiting to see whether he does that,” Clinton said.
Clinton also repeated her stance that she would have not kept Wright as her pastor with the remarks he has made.
“I would not have stayed in that church under those circumstances,” Clinton said Monday.
The influence of the black liberation theology of James H. Cone appears in the political philosophy of Barack Obama as well as in the recent controversial statement about national pride made by Michelle Obama.
The spiritual role that Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ (UCC) and its just-retired pastor Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright have played in the lives of Barack and Michelle Obama is well-established, as is the Africentric theology that is the cornerstone of the church’s self-proclaimed identity.
This man, I’d like to say gentleman, however, he is not. He makes his comments on black’s as if they are the only people in America that have suffered as history unfolds. As a Native America I am infuriated by this man’s lack of vision. He’d make a great history teacher if you wanted a slanted view of history. He can’t seem to live in today, he wants to be compensated, told I’m sorry for things that happened before he was even thought of. He is a fame hogger and is unfortunately is making Obama’s campagin suffer for his path to fame.
He is a grandstander and it is unfortunate that the press is giving him this much attention. This is the type of person that can insite a riot without having any thought to his supposed ’cause’. He is revolting and not worth continued coverage.
It’s amazing that he never mentioned the Native American in his list of those who do not have the equality in this country…his type of words are a lot of hot air with nothing coming out of them.
It’s amazing how Wright cannot just answer a question– he insists on mocking the questions, the reporters, the media, etc. And quite frankly the crowd is not much better. This guy is an embarrassment, I don’t care if he served in the military or not. I’m sick of his racist attitude that he attempts to couch in “religiosity”. If Wright was a white pastor and said half of the things that Wright has said, it would be an abomination. It’s people like Wright that help keep racism alive and well in this Country.
Rev. Wright as president. That whould be a blessing for America.
I wonder what Caroline and Ted Kennedy must be thinking about Rev. Wright’s comments on her dad and Ted. That is what happens when you endorse someone you do not know well. I am just fed up with Obama and his Rev. and the whole race thing. As far as I am concerned nobody messes around with JFK. Obama reminds her of her dad and Michelle of her Mom. Jackie must be rolling over in her grave.
Go Hillary!
Can’t Rev. Wright com and preach for us in Sweden. His wise words should be heard by
everybody. I’m neither American or black could he consider the question?
Is this man for real, doesn’t he know how much damage he is causing, especially saying that he is offering himself as Obamas VP. What the heck is he doing. Bill Hemmer you are absolutely right Wright is hanging himself. I hope that Hill and Obama will heed your warning.
Cynthia
Wow!!! questions that were answered. Fox I don’t think you understand the Black Church because you didn’t understand the answers. When he said “GD America” he was quoting the Iranian Govt. Watch the sermon before you pass judgment on someone. I thought is was great….wish he was at my church! He called for reconciliation among all ethnicities. Really great job!
kbazz TX
I liked Obama but will fight for Hill after hearing this guy….Go back to your church.. Obama
It was good of Fox News to run an hour of Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s speech with question and answers,UNEDITED.
What he said ,he stands by. There was no wishy washy flip flop speech or answers to direct questions.
America believes in Freedom of Speech. It’s the American way. Errol Smythe.
Mr. Wright says he served in the military and VP Cheney did not. Well in his case, serving in the military does not make him a patrotic, I am sorry, he is just a black bigot and he is talking out of both side of his mouth. He will say anything. I have seen him on tv making fun of almost everybody. True christains don’t do that. He needs to to search his soul and see where the hate is coming from. We really should feel pity for him.
Why do you have that idiot Juan Williams on your program trying to spin the views of Rev Wright to suit your audience? Juan is doing a disservice to Fox and the people who listen to your broadcast because he is the misguided fool trying to keep people in a dark and spread false views about Rev Wright.
So, The Rev.Wright alledged that he spent six years in some countries military. I wonder what proof he put forward? Is Fox or ANYONE going to check his facts?
J.A
He did mention native americans in those sermons that have been played on Fox. However not in the snippet that fox aired. If you can find the link of the entire sermon you can hear where he talks about the injustices done to not only Native Americans, but also to the Japanese.
I did not know this until two days ago when I finally listened to the entire sermon.
Just finished watching the OVERLY LONG coverage of Rev. Wright’s comments to the National Press Club. For Pete’s sake! This hatemonger is not the Pope, the President, an important military person, or someone of ANY real significance in the grand scheme of things. Ultra rabble-rousers do NOT, in my opinion, merit that much airtime. I am a FOX addict but once in awhile you guys go way overboard in showing how very fair and balanced you really are. Enough already!
The comment by Rev. Wright that summed up his views of ‘white America’ was his conclusion that if Obama does not win the presidential race, it is because racism won. That is an incredible insult to the intelligence and values of all Americans. I will not vote for Obama because his views are the antithesis of everything I believe in. Period.
Rev Wright sounds like a good and likable American to me. He comes across much better than his detractors. Now can we get on with the issues that do matter.
What is wrong with you people!! Rev. Wright was RIGHT ON. Were your ears full of wax or what. He, as a minister is in Gods work, not politics!! NOT POLITICS! NOT POLITICS! I, personally will have more respect for Obama if he backs his minister up and says “Thank you, Rev., for clearing up the fact that you are NOT IN POLITICS.”
Rev Wright did mention other races he mentions Native Americans and he mentions how Americans treated the Japanese.
To the posters who said White pastors can’t say the same things, well you are right, they don’t on the race part, but on the parts of God punishing America because of Gay rights, abortion etc…look up Hagee, or Pat Robertson…you might be surprised what you find…
This man scares me!
Where I agree with JA that there has been entirely to much attention given to Rev. Wright in the news media, I disagree that he has not mentioned what has happened to Native Americans in this country.
Them Democrate Chickens…….they coming hoooome, to roost!
OK so gas is still 4.00 a gallon right? Lots of people still can’t afford groceries right? The economy is still screwed up right? Why is this the lead story. Wright is engaged in the politics of the past and the hate of the past. It’s about the future. I don’t know why Obama has to be accountable for the words of another.
The AntiChrist has identified himself ! We need equal time from the Catholics, Jews, Baptists, etc. to speak of what True Christianity is…..Juan, Megan, and Bill are doing an excellent job covering this blasphamy
I am so thankful that the press is exposing Rev Wright and Obama for what they really are. I will be voting for Hillary. Now I have a clearer view on the change that Obama has been speaking about.
Reverend Wright, Obama, Michelle, Ayers and Farrakhan ..all believers of Black Liberation Theology…
Barak’s life of social activism, coupled with an emphasis in his speeches on government social action to eradicate unjust suffering, aligns with Cone’s words, albeit in a context that extends beyond the black community to the nation, and then to the world. Cone wrote:
“Therefore, whoever fights for the poor, fights for God; whoever risks his life for the helpless and unwanted, risks his life for God. God is active now in the lives of those men who feel an absolute identification with all who suffer because there is no justice in the land.” (p. 47, Black Theology & Black Power)
Michelle Obama’s recent statement about pride-in-country is thoroughly consistent with both the Afrocentric theology of Trinity UCC and with the black theology of their spiritual mentor’s (Wright’s) mentor (Cone). Her efforts to explain what she meant by her statement have, so far, been vague. The less she says, the better it will be for her husband’s campaign.
Why is it necessary to describe the Rev Wright as “a well-respected black theologian”? As we all know there are many other less attractive ways to describe this man that could have been selected by your editors. Sounds like another partisan “vote of confidence” for him (or should we say, for Obama) on your part.
Please, we have enough problems in this Country, lets don’t add this guy to the mix. He’s racist and the people who believe what he is saying are too. The media is making worse for all of us. Wright just needs to shut up and go far away. Beside hurting Obama he is hurting the Black Community.
what scares me about rev wright in the speech was “change is about to come” Is he referring to obama being president and they have agenda? e said it so many times its as almost like he knows something. change is about to come??????? that would not be good for us typical white people.
I’m wondering with Rev. Wright’s comments this morning, as far as reconciliation, if he would accept Sept. 11th, 2001 as an apology for slavery since ” the chickens have come home to roost”?
Rev. Wright may be many things to many people, but he will be most remembered as an egomaniac that just can’t get enough attention. Whatever he has done is often overshadowed by his condescending, arrogant and inflamatory rhetoric. If a white man were to give a speech, as Wright did at the NAACP in Detriot, showing linguistic differences between whites and blacks by ridiculing honorable white men like JFK and Lyndon Johnson, he’d be labeled a racist. Can you imagine a white man ridiculing the way MLK talked…..? Rev. Wright deines that he is a racist, but his speeches speak for themselves, and if they are not racist, then they are, at the very least, racially inflamatory.
Would like to hear his direct interpretation of “only one way to get to the father but through the son?? Like to hear his answer again?????
It is unfortunate that some people are so determined to make other people think that they are not capable of thinking for themselves I listen to Juan Williams this morning and it seemed to me that he was very angry because he didn,t like what he heard could it be that the words that he used to describe Pastor Wright is how he sees himself? It would be nice if you gave another person from the Black community an opportunity to give an opposing opinion from Mr. Williams and that who ever that person is would be shown the same courtesy of being able to complete a statement without interruption.
I’m outraged at Wright’s mimicing of JFK’s speech and whites. The man is divisive
J.A. —You did not listen to him completely (Which is a problem) He said that the only real americans are the native indians…the europeans stole this country from your people and you all have largely been sectioned off into reservations, other areas like the manhattan island being sold from you all for next to nothing and it is now the epicenter of financial power in the us. We are all immigrants your people are the originals…he stated that yesterday. Your people have had the apologies blacks have not…
If Wright claims to desire equality and reconciliation, why goes he over and over again refer to his church as “the black church”, even after proclaiming to have members of every race? The only purpose this sort of rhetoric serves is to divide us further.
I watched and learned. I learned that Wright will never get over the past. I also learned that according to him, I can’t get to heaven unless I apologize and ask for forgivness for something that I took no part in. Perhaps every white person in America should go to him on bended knees, kiss his hand and beg for “HIS” forgivness. If I don’t agree with him I am a racist. I have nothing but pity for his cult followers. He uses the scriptures to back his own agenda just like Jim Jones and David Koresh. the difference is that those cults only destroyed themselves, Wrights cult will destroy not only years of hard work to pull the races together, but may bring down this country. It’s a good thing Obama slept through all this.
Mr Wright claims his words are taken out of context and spun by the media. His church sold DVD’S of his sermons. Why has no one come forward with one of these DVD’S to prove him right or wrong?
I watched the Reverands comments this morning . He hides behind “victim-hood” and portrays any attack on him as prejudice against “the Black Church”. Such ego is shocking to witness. Obama must be reeling. Hillary looks better and better.
The analysis on Foxx by Juan Williams was excellent. I have always been a fan of his. He is now my hero.
Pastor Wright must think he is excused from saying these things because he served as a marine. Didn’t Timoth McVeigh serve in the military? He certainly wasn’t excused. Why should Wright be?
Not Obamas Vp But Vp to Jesus he running for jesus
When the black community drops the double standard that it OK for a Black person to be racised but not any other race (Hispanic, Asia, White, ect.) then racism will die in America. I don’t think any other race could have said what Wright did and then get a nation wide tour or speaking to National Press Club.
What pastors are supposed to do:
Spread the word of Jesus Christ; Bring people to Christ; Teach love, peace, humility, compassion; Counsel to their congregation; speak from, and lead by the Word of God
What Rev Wright has done:
Spread the “black” word (didnt know the Bible had two versions); Bring people to a division using race; Teach the sins of the “white” man and blame them for all black problems; Show NO humility, peace?
He looked as if he was trying to make the question girl cry! Thats not MY pastor!
BTW, I hope the IRS was watching, its a tax rule of non- profits NOT to say, do, or endorse ANYTHING political…these rules may not apply to him though..
this man is trying to divide black and white people. he would not take individual responsibility for his comments, and portrayed an attack on black religion. obama’s wife shares this ideology evident by her comments. obama listened to this separatist rhetoric for 20 years, he has absorbed this philosophy. very disturbing to listen to such hatred.
I just hope people listen to his speech last night and his comments today at the press club with an open mind. So much to today’s opinion is either hard right or hard left. The right is correct everytime and the left isn’t correct everytime. People should consider the words of others carefully before dismissing them out of hand.
Got an iPhone? - You need a BudCase
When America is at war it is wise to take note at who the enemy wants as POTUS. Our enemy is praying to Allah that Mr. Obama become prez. in part because of his ‘former’ pastor who is spewing hate and devisiveness about America. Way to go Mr. Patriot! With friends like you, America doesn’t need any more enemies. Semper Fi
I never cease to be amazed that public figures like Wright can talk about the ‘black church’ as though faith in Christ was somehow different for them. And then, in the middle of his hollering about the blacks, holler just as loudly that he wants everyone to live peacefully together. When black leaders keep harping on the issue of race, how do they expect the issue to die down? They are the ones keeping it alive and their hate and anger keep fuelling it. They are creating and re-creating the very problem they are screaming about.
It does seem to me that Wright may very well be hearing the words “Depart from Me; I never knew you” in the future. He is not preaching Christ; he is preaching politics. Jesus was rather clear about His kingdom NOT being of this world. Wright had and has the choice of being part of the problem or part of the solution. He is definitely part of the problem, as the media has pointed out.
Rev. Wright has just destroyed the bridge that Obama has built between the races over the past 18 months.
The original clips shown of Rev. Wright - leaving content aside- depict him as an angry old coot. His supporters say those clips define him too narrowly. Now that he is off on his tour to redeem himself, what does he come across as? An angry old coot. He wouldn’t be my pastor - the content of his sermons might put you to sleep, but the loudness would keep you awake.
is it wrong to understand rev. wright message. i am a 42 year old afican american. i was raise missionary baptist .
Saying devisive things as Reverend Wright has done, under the cover of “this is how we do it in the black church,” is a poor excuse for bringing people together in peace in love.
Rev Wright constantly says that he speaks as a pastor and Obama speaks as a politician. Shouldn’t they be both be speaking the same truth. Why do none of the commentators pick up on this?
He is causing so much damage it’s ridiculous. He and most of his followers in the audience today are completely unaware of how ridiculous his statements come across.
Obama better do some fast thinking to fix this because Wright is in no hurry to stop.
This is really great. Can’t wait for the book to come out. I think we can safely say that Reverand Wright will be able to pay for his own multi million dollar house now. What is even more amazing than his divisive, hateful and racist words is the media (which I am currently watching) glossing over them and artfully moving on to Miley. I, as a immigrant from England was offended to the core by his words. There is a place for and a context for his words but Reverand Wright needs a time machine to get there. This spreads hatred towards every non black person in America. Many of whom were not born when these acts took place, others had not yet arrived in this country. Neither want to be held responsible for slavery. As a Christian he should try to practise forgiveness not just talk about it. He would be better focusing on the issues that are destroying black families.
He sort of comes off as Howard Beale from the film Network. His honesty is over the top yet not entirely sincere. Regardless, it’s commendable he defended himself and his church from those that seek political gain at the expense of him and others who shouldn’t have been involved in such a mess.
I think Wright just put the final nail in Obamas Presedential coffin.
the comment to the Native American - Rev. Wright did mention how the land was stolen from the Native Americans - go back and listen - He said that in reality - we ALL are immigrants, mentioning that the FIRST immigrants STOLE the land from the Native Americans. He said some immigrants came on the top of the ship - and others came “below” the ship - meaning SLAVES. You have to listen to the WHOLE speech and not part. You have to open your mind and listen - This man is not “crazy”!!!!!!!!
I saw some of his live speech before the Press Club this morning, so I’m not basing the next statement upon heresay…….when going on his long diatribe about Black Liberation theology, he clearly lumped Jesus together with the prophets of the Old Testament and called Jesus “a prophet”. This clearly is not consistant with Christian theolgy of Jesus as the Son of God, the third person of the Trinity of Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
So please, don’t anyone out there misunderstand…….he does not profess a biblical Christian perpective……he clearly professes his own brand of Black Liberation theology. It’s just sad that many american Christians (both Black and White) see him as a Christian preacher.
He’s obviously not.
Gabriella… It is precisely people like you who like and endorse the like of Wright (Wright is wrong), and that black separatist Barack Obama. I suggest you learn how to spell (whould), before you pontificate. You are obviously a un-educated, racist black person. Go get a life.. or become educated… (then you will become a Republican). NO BLACK SEPARATIST FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!
The definition of Racism requires that in order for a person to be a racist they must be able to negatively impact anothers way of life. You can only be a racist if you have the power to deny housing, employment, voting rights, justice etc.
While Blacks cannot by definition be racist, we can be bigots. But you will find that bigotry for the most part is a by product of racism.
All these comments go to show that white people hate when the mirror is put up to th(ier) government, and the reflection is ugly.
Rev. Wright condones us for American imperialism, yet he wants the United States to apologize to the Japanese? He wants us to apologize for stopping the Japanese in WW2 for their evil imperialism. This guy is devisive and dangerous.
well REv u telling it like it is…. Sure its gone hurt obama an dU gotta defend yoself with the media b/c they will mislead and do everything else to boost they ratings and they poltiical agenda… I hope obama doesnt win i really do …B/c neither Hill or John has no vision for the future and u people gone be sorry that u took somebdy else words and not his into account…. America is crumblin people John is going to war with IRAN u can see it coming a mile away..Hillary want be able to get nohting pass b/c they hate her GUTs and her husband soo… we will back to square One again high prices, more crimes, more wars… so I hope God is in your life b/c i think we gone be callin gon him alot in the next few years…. god Bless
rev.”WRONG” should be his name ! he is nothing more than an angry man looking for attention,i didn’t hear one thing out of his mouth that made sense ,the media nor anyone else, that i know of, has attacked the black church,it wasn’t the black church that made these useless and meaningless comments.i guess he has nothing better to do with his time,he really needs to study GOD’S word instead of just READING it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ J.A. Apparently you didn’t listen to Rev Wright last night. He specifically talked about the different tribes of Native Americans that get left out of history. He specifically said, anyone who’s in America that isn’t an Indian is an immigrant. You need to listen to the speech he made to the NCAA Sunday night. On more than a couple occasions he talked about how Indians have been mistreated.
Also, he mentioned running for Vice President as kind of a joke, but he has said things like that before and I’m starting to think he actually wants to. That would be interesting…and I don’t see how that is separating himself from the politics of the election
wright is right….
I am so outraged and disgusted by the unfair coverage and reporting on the comments, personality and work of Dr. Jeremiah Wright that I had to turn off the television. My mother used to always say that people hear what they want to hear, and I have as much proof as I have ever had that this is true, listening to the media coverage, especially on Fox. How could you so blatantly misrepresent the meaning of Dr. Wright’s words today? Even after he gave a detailed and impassioned synopsis of “black theology” and its roots, your commentary and reflections twisted and turned his words into some unrecognizable diatribe. I am particularly ashamed of Juan Williams. I have always respected his journalism and thought him to be a voice of reason, but on this matter of the black church, I think he may need to do a little more research and get some more facts. Barack Obama is a better man than I, because if I was subjected to this kind of unwarranted attack, I would just walk away from all this and find some other means to make a difference. I guess that is why, like Dr. Wright, I am a preacher, not a politician.
I agree totally with Antonne.. The question that has not been asked by the press is about the black value system. Does B.O subscribe to it ? If he does he should renounce his canidacy, if he doesn’t he should denounce his church and Rev. Wright.
These latest diatribes by WR. will terminate the run of B.O. Shamefully, it could end the prospect of any person of color becoming pres. for years to come.
B.O. has said he wants to unite the country. That very system has and will continue to divide this great country!!!
More blacks died last week in the southside of Chicago than all of Iraq last week. Where is the Reverend’s efforts or comments on this? Where is Barack’s great wisdom and remedy on this? They can’t keep their own house clean much less….oops I forgot the reveverend is moving into a 10 million dollar house where white folks live. I smell what Barack is cooking. It’s called hypocrisy.
Like the created governmental culture that gives us 400lb welfare recipients rushing to their roof tops for goverment rescue so does the double standard thrive…like using ONE word, the “N” word, vs. a multitude of offensive remarks by the reverend. Flip this scenario and the white guy would be out on his buttocks. What was more offensive. The remarks by Imus or the Reverend? You can turn off Imus but Barrack attended this wonderful church for 20 years. Nice place to bring your children brother man. Yea, we trust you.
Go John MCain !!!!!!!!!!!
Isn’t there anything going on the world? Fox seems only to cover Rev. Wright and Britney Spears these days.
I am a 68 year old white woman who just listened to pastor Wright’s reposnse to the media’s questions. Pastor Wright spoke from his mouth to God’s ears and God heard the truth.
When your opportunity comes to interpet his statements check your consions to make sure you have heard his words because he was right on!!!
The basic principles upon which our fathers founded his great nation (freedom of speech, religios liberty, right to vote, are men are equal etc..) are being eroded by our own self appeasement policies. Who is to blame for the problems our blessed country is going through, others or ourselves? remember what is sown is what is ripped. Wright is a minister of God and speaks on behalf of God, warning people of dangers and consequences of sin, while Our politicians speak on behalf of people and most of the time speak to please the people themselves, the two functions are not the same. It is being hypocrical of judging one another by mere association, albeit, each one of us is accountable for his or her actions. Just think for a moment about the current events? is it good or bad? Everything is bout the choices we make as individuals as well as a nation. Therefore do not crucify Senator Obama.By the way they are politician who belong to the Catholic church and add mass, have they been asked to disassociate themselves from the church just because some priests have been molesting young boys? so deeds and words how do they measure? Let us not be hyprocrites.
I am disturbed over this wolf-in-sheep’s clothing who mocked the respect due the National Press Club and these United States of America with his tunnel vision which is, indeed, black ‘liberation theology.’ What a self-serving batch of convenient excuses and ‘philosophy’ this morning’s National Press Club ‘guest’ proclaimed.
If this is the faith heritage Senator Obama chooses as his and his family’s own, then Democrats who believe in unity and the true Christian message need seek guidance and leadership elsewhere.
Obama cannot stay a member of Wright’s so-called church and expect to win the Presidency after this disaster I witnessed on television this morning.
What a joke this whole Obama campaign has now become. Alas, he is but another radical amongst the people whom he claims to lead into a united nation.
I spent over 22 years in U.S. Military and consider myself to be patriotic not because of my service, but because I love America. I met numerous people during those years of service that didn’t love America and basically just chose it as either a place to get an education or work experience. I’ve also met many who never servered who loved this country. Mr. Wright is not partriotic, not because of what people say about him, but simply because of the hate that comes from his own mouth, and I’m not just talking about the items he refers to as being “taken out of context”.
I think the media is making to much of reverend Wright. He is not running for president.
Reverend Wright does not know what he is doing. His egotistical lashing out just creates more anger and more questions about what kind of influence he had on Barack Obama. It is hard to see how someone could have listened to this type of rhetoric for twenty years without substantially agreeing with it. Obama does not look like the best candidate for “Patriot-in-Chief” and that is what the President must be.
Rev. Wright is not running for president, so white America needs to get over it. Howard Stern has made worse comments and no one harasses him on his radio show.
He speaks what most black Americans have felt for many years.
Corrrection: Presidential
It is true that the truth hurts. Why is everyone afraid of Rev. Wright? Why are some people not putting the message in its whole context? The reason is because they are afraid of the truth. The truth is that this whole controversy with the media’s interpretation about every single word that is spoken by Rev. Wright, put us to think how far someone will go to get on top. But God allowed Rev. Wright to speak up, because God is much much much bigger than the media, and all who is against the truth. Everything in the dark will come to light. The truth shall prevail, whether we like it or not. God always leave a remnant in the bush, and I believe he raised up Rev. Wright for a purpose. I have never heard of him before, but thanks to the media I do now.
Listening to Mr. Wright’s sermons shows a clearly Democratic mindset. Not of a particular person in the Democratic party but the ideology of the Democratic Party. A conquering force is not by military might but by the ruling men and women who decide to restrict the freedom of the people. It all begins with the mindset of those who wish to control others, instead of letting people control themselves. Israel was taxed by the Romans, for the leaders of Rome wanted to take money from those who earned it and gave it to other Romans or those who the Roman leaders felt should receive it.
Are you desiring to elect officials which will be as the Roman leaders of that time to give you the things you want which you currently do not have? Are you desiring to restrict another’s freedom for your happiness?
So it is solely up to you to understand which leaders will really restrict yours and others freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness is not guaranteed, but the pursuit of it should be. Life and liberty will not be guaranteed either when you elect/select leaders which will take make laws taking them away from the person.
