RNC Calls on Networks to Halt Anti-McCain ‘100 Years’ Ad

MIAMI — The Republican National Committee demanded Monday that television networks stop running a television ad by the Democratic Party that falsely suggests John McCain wants a 100-year war in Iraq.

The ad says President Bush has talked about staying in Iraq for 50 years, then plays a clip of McCain saying, “Maybe 100. That’d be fine with me.”

The announcer then says: “If all he offers is more of the same, is John McCain the right choice for America’s future?”

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said the ad deliberately distorts what McCain, the likely GOP presidential nominee, said.

The committee’s chief counsel, Sean Cairncross, said he sent letters Monday to NBC, CNN and MSNBC insisting that they stop airing the commercial.

At issue is McCain’s answer, in January, to a question about Bush’s theory that troops could be in Iraq for 50 years.

McCain said: “Maybe 100. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’d be fine with me, and I hope it would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaida is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day.”

Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said “there’s nothing false” about the ad.

“We deliberately used John McCain’s words. This isn’t some ominous consultant’s voice from Washington. This is John McCain’s own words. And we’ve been very upfront about everything that he’s said.”

Once again the Dems are deliberately misleading the public, they know very well McCains’ stand on the war and his statement that just like in Korea, Germany, Japan, refers to us being a stabilizing force, he does not and rightly so anticipate us fighting there for 100 years, that would be ludicrious and Dean and the rest of his ilk are fully aware of this, but as usual the truth doesn’t matter in democratic party politics.

Okay people, get a clue! You say we are in Korea, Germany, etc, etc but at the same time you complain about a commercial that suggests just that, that McCain would keep us in Iraq for 100 years? Make up your minds, you can’t have it both ways. But in my opinion, being in those other nations does not justify us staying in Iraq. If anything we should be in Afghanistan and even Pakistan, where Al Qaeda is really flourishing and stop waisting our time, lives and money on an unjustifed war! And this is why McCain will loose in the fall…

I am disgusted by the democratic party tactics. If the republican did this, they would be crying foul. I am glad I left the democratic party. I want an honest person to win this election and not a person who offers everything to everybody just to get vote. our country is more important than the party politics.

If one is allowed to cut and paste anyone can be made to say anything. AND the Democrats are complaining about someone taking Jerimiah Wright’s comments out of context?? Shame on the pot calling the kettle black.

That’s what the Democrats have always done. Take words, edit them for their own needs and use your words against you. Lets get the facts out all call them on it.

“Cain slew Abel. . . . Go thou and do likewise.”

Nothing distorted there. It’s all in the Bible. Right?

Let Dean say he is just using Mccains word..When something happens close to him or his home I bet the farm he would agree to the correct statements himself…Lets get real AMERICA..When we enjoy everything that we take for granted everyday..I assure you it came with a price tag or war and brave heros some who lived to tell about it and some who didnt. My point in case Freedom Comes With A Price Tag…Like It Or Not But Im Very Sure You Love The Freedoom You Enjoy…Especially some of the liberals who are allow (by freedom) to bash our soldiers and everything America was build around..If You dont like it..go somewhere else Im sure you will be back sooner than we would like..P.S. Please Stay!!!!

“How many years have we been in Korea and we aren’t at war with them. Period the End.”

Technically, we are still at war with Korea. We are in an extended ceasefire which began in 1953, excepting the occasional small arms fire across the DMZ or massacre. We stand alongside South Koreans to prevent further North Korean mischief. Perhaps you meant Japan, where we started out as an occupying force in 1945, and became allies as we helped rebuild the nation.
