RNC Calls on Networks to Halt Anti-McCain ‘100 Years’ Ad

MIAMI — The Republican National Committee demanded Monday that television networks stop running a television ad by the Democratic Party that falsely suggests John McCain wants a 100-year war in Iraq.

The ad says President Bush has talked about staying in Iraq for 50 years, then plays a clip of McCain saying, “Maybe 100. That’d be fine with me.”

The announcer then says: “If all he offers is more of the same, is John McCain the right choice for America’s future?”

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said the ad deliberately distorts what McCain, the likely GOP presidential nominee, said.

The committee’s chief counsel, Sean Cairncross, said he sent letters Monday to NBC, CNN and MSNBC insisting that they stop airing the commercial.

At issue is McCain’s answer, in January, to a question about Bush’s theory that troops could be in Iraq for 50 years.

McCain said: “Maybe 100. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’d be fine with me, and I hope it would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaida is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day.”

Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said “there’s nothing false” about the ad.

“We deliberately used John McCain’s words. This isn’t some ominous consultant’s voice from Washington. This is John McCain’s own words. And we’ve been very upfront about everything that he’s said.”

This show the DNC has nothing substantial on McCain - they’re desperate. Desperate people do desperate acts. Pretty easy to see through this tactic.

McCain is a disgrace to the Republican Party as is Bush.
Republican politics today would be considered Communist in 1917

Vote ron Paul and take back our country

You obviously have absolutely no clue as to what communism is. Which is probably why you’re a Paul supporter.

The open-minded, well-informed voter knows what McCain said and why he said it. What is scary is, based on comments herein it seems like maybe 1% of the people are open-minded and well-informed.

I hope the RNC sues every network that airs that commercial! It’s completely misleading, which is another word for “lies!”. Howard Dean is doing more damage to the Democratic party than any commercial the Republicans could ever create….and, I’m loving every minute of watching the democrats implode on themselves!

Well if the democrats want to play this game, they are going to lose in November. This election is not going to be about the issues like they claim, but instead it’s going to be about the actual candidate. McCain will win because of his honesty, courage, integrity and leadership qualities, which none of the democrat candidates have. And another thing, these democrats suffer from Bush Dementia so bad that they still think there running against him in 2008!

John Dean and his DNC are 2 faced. The Democrats attack McCain because he tells the NC Republicans not to run an ad associating Obama with Wright, but doesnt somehow make them. Then, they turn around and attack McCain by misquoting him. Talk about the teakettle calling the pot black, or whatever. And Misquoting is exactly what they are doing:Taking small portions of what a person says out of context is misquoting. They are lying to the country, and the media supports this dishonesty. It’s time conservatives start questioning the limits of the 1st Ammendment, just like the liberals have been questioning and re-interpreting the others as it suits them. jim

New proverb: Eagle with one wing, fly in circle! Fact is folks, we are all Americans and the Eagle needs both wings to fly straight! Left and Right! Stop acting like everyone has to believe like you do or they should “leave the country”. “My church is right,my party is right,my race is right,” get a grip and grow up.” Free your mind and the rest will follow “(EN Vogue) .

I guess Howard Dean, the Democratic Party Chairman, supports distorted messages purposely taken out of context versus the point of the message…sounds like a typical far left nut, not a leader…I read those kinds of messages on liberal-left bumper stickers everyday. Have you ever noticed the liberal-left uses bumper stickers, t-shirts and signs with profane and slanderous political messages, placed out in public, while the conservative right doesn’t? What does this tell you about their morals, objectivity, fairness and state of mind…yikes!

Here is what Dean said:
“We deliberately used John McCain’s words. This isn’t some ominous consultant’s voice from Washington. This is John McCain’s own words. And we’ve been very upfront about everything that he’s said.”

“We deliberately used some ominous consultant’s voice from Washington. John McCain’s been very upfront about everything that he’s said.”

Gee folks, see how the meaning changes when you’re allowed to edit and slice and dice someone’s words to fit your own agenda?
