RNC Calls on Networks to Halt Anti-McCain ‘100 Years’ Ad

MIAMI — The Republican National Committee demanded Monday that television networks stop running a television ad by the Democratic Party that falsely suggests John McCain wants a 100-year war in Iraq.

The ad says President Bush has talked about staying in Iraq for 50 years, then plays a clip of McCain saying, “Maybe 100. That’d be fine with me.”

The announcer then says: “If all he offers is more of the same, is John McCain the right choice for America’s future?”

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said the ad deliberately distorts what McCain, the likely GOP presidential nominee, said.

The committee’s chief counsel, Sean Cairncross, said he sent letters Monday to NBC, CNN and MSNBC insisting that they stop airing the commercial.

At issue is McCain’s answer, in January, to a question about Bush’s theory that troops could be in Iraq for 50 years.

McCain said: “Maybe 100. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’d be fine with me, and I hope it would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaida is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day.”

Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said “there’s nothing false” about the ad.

“We deliberately used John McCain’s words. This isn’t some ominous consultant’s voice from Washington. This is John McCain’s own words. And we’ve been very upfront about everything that he’s said.”

we stayed in Korea for over 50 years and kept North Korea in its place and showed we are commited to Asian security…..If staying in Iraq for 50 years means stability in that area, so be it…..just like the Dems to take out of context Mc Cain’s words!

the lying bass-turd McCain is just like Boosh, speaking out both sides of his mouth at the same time. Yes the lying bass-turd said he’d keep us there 100 years, not matter how he tries to deny it, just like Boosh has.
McCain is bad for America and worse for the world

The real problem here is the spin Democrats are willing to place on anything to make them look better. It’s sad what the Democrats had to offer for the upcoming election. One is a habitual liar who’s married to the worst president in the last century, and not above illegal behavior. The other is a bigot who affiliates with anti-Americans and has still not explained his “plan for America.” So this is no surprise, when you hold the weakest hand in game you have to bluff. By lying about McCain they can feel better about their pitiful, underhanded, immoral and insignificant party.

GO FIGURE, THE LEFT WILL SAY ANYTHING SO OFTEN IN HOPES THAT IT STICKS, YES BEING IN IRAG 100 YEARS WOULD BE GOOD AS LONG AS WE ARE NOT AT WAR THE WHOLE TIME, WHICH IS WHAT MC CAIN SAID.

I HOPE THAT THE DNC LOOKS BEYOND THEIR NARROW MINDED BLINDNESS,AND TOWAND THE FUTURE WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE TRYING TO BUILD A BETTER PLACE.

Howard Dean and the DNC are masters of the half-truth propaganda technique, just like the Former Soviet Union. This kind of garbage certainly doesn’t surprise me, it is what I’ve come to expect from them and from U.S. politics in general, and this somewhat saddens me.

Why should this ad surprise anyone? These political ads usually distort the truth. I do not know how Howard Dean can say no distortion. Does it mention anything about our troops not being wounded in anyway? He meant it in the context of our presense in Korea, Germany and other areas of the world. I hope the American people are smart enough to recognize these ads for what they are.
