For the RNC to “demand” networks stop showing this ad is a laughable farce; do you think the networks would have listened had the DNC demanded to stop the airing of the Swift Boat ads in ‘04? Of course not, and those ads are now known to be complete frauds. The anti-McCain ads are accurate because they are HIS OWN WORDS, and Democrats are quite right to call him on it.

Please give me a break. As a conservative I find the RNC to be just plain whiney about this. Can somebody please explain to the RNC and, perhaps Mr. McCain as well, that if they’re going to get all wimpy about ads like this, then just give it up and quit wasting our time. The Democrats have no dirt on a man of integrity, and they (Dems) seem to not want to defend freedom. So they are making a mockery of an honest statement. We have troops all over the world defending freedom. The Democrats just want the money for social programs rather than defending freedom.

Tim is right. Germany, Japan and Korea were doing pretty well. 100 years doesn’t sound to bad. Peacekeeping is a good idea. Isn’t that how Hillary and Bill wanted to use our troops (and tried to use our troops) in Bosnia and Mogadishu? As peace-keepers?

As quoted earlier “I’m a lifelong Republican, but after I saw McCain saying that he wants to keep us in Iraq 100 years, I changed my mind and will vote for Obama. This war is a disaster.”

This is what ads that take words out of context do to people. But I can’t blame the Democrats. If Americans want to listen to a few words and not do their homework and search out the truth, which does take time and hard WORK, then America will be duped into believing every commercial that comes across the air waves. Democrats are just betting that most Americans will not search out the truth from several different sources and believe the “half-truths”. By the way it goes the same way for the Republicans too. Search for the truth, America.

The ad just illustrates how weak the Democratic candidates are, and how desperate the DNC is. Just think of the possibilities of ads if we used partial phrases from the Democrats (e.g. Obamas “typical white person” comment about his Grandmother.
Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and the like are proof there is too much estrogen in our beef, and milk. Trying to win an election by distorting the truth is truly a sign of weakness.

We have a saying what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. The RNC cannot want to put out half truths on Democratic contender and not want the same be returned to their candidate. Mc Cain pretending to take umbrage to what’s being put out by his party is not good enough and just making a statement does not cut the mustard. Whether it was theoratic statement or not by Mr Mc Cain the point is he is willing to sacrifice more American troops for nothing for another 100 years and that in itself is scary. There is a feeling the same is being done in places like Germany and Southe Korea buy ask yourself is America fighting any battles in either of these two countries? Also can America afford to sustain a two front war for a hundred years because that’s what will eventually happen, the news shows that the Taliban are not willing to give up Afghanistan so America might be fighting and spending tax payers money on two wars for a very long time.

We have been in Cuba for a hundred years. So what. Only Howard Dean and his liberal buddies would run an ad like this against McCain.

Oh well, when obama and his group get together and we are pushed back to the 1930’s with trade isolatioan and return to the 1960’s with the entitlements that the Great Society produced and your broke because of high taxes, double diget inflation, double the capital gains tax life will be great. Gas will be $8.00 a gallon and you won’t have a job to go to.

Just think life will be great then.

Dont assume that its OK to stay in Iraq for 100 years because we got away with it in Germany, North Korea, Japan etc. There is reason to suspect (NY 9/11) that some middle eastern people actually dont LIKE us parking our military in their backyards for years on end. Really clever societies learn from their experiences - may be there are ways we can mitigate the impact of Islamic extremism without a military presence . . . and save a few billion dollars while we are at it.

Well, it[s true, but then maybe people don’t remember how long we’ve been in South Korea. We’re not getting out of South Korea any time soon either. It is necessary for us to be there to maintain a not so stable situation. The Korean penninsular is still a “very hot spot” in the world for everyone’s safety. Just a fact that we need to face. I’m not saying it’s bad, it’s just reality. How can you even being to place a “date” on a war’s end? We simply cannot leave until it is “time” and only God knows when that is. Winning is the solution to the end, not leaving as a means to an end. That would not be a solution.

The statement Sen. McCain made, Yvonne, is that he would stay there if there were no harm to troops — a presence, not open hostilities. I’m sure, however, that you read the same article as I did, and yet you say you don’t understand the “double standards”. The ad says “100 years war”, not “100 years presence”. This, too, I’m sure you’ve seen.

Even the Republican attack ad (which McCain called on them to pull) didn’t completely misrepresent Obama’s connection to the Rev. Wright. How could it? It is what it is — his Pastor of 20 years showing his racist colors.

But you’ll get no calls from Obama or Clinton to pull this — oh, how shall I put it? — lie told by the DNC. Perhaps you don’t understand the double standard because there IS no double standard.

Now that’s nerve! At the very moment they’re complaining about this ad, the RNC is running ads in Mississippi and Virginia with some very questionable content and ethics. And who can forget their infamous Harold Ford Jr. ads in ‘06? This is the comsummate “people in glass houses” story. Has anyone drug tested the folks at the RNC lately? They have to be either chemically altered or stupid. It might be both!

I am strongly for Hillary, but will vote for McCain if Obama is the candidate.

Meanwhile, I do not think it is fair for the DNC to try to convince voters that McCain ever advocated a 100-year war. He clearly stated that it would be no different than the U.S. maintaining bases in S. Korea or Germany.

I am a life-long Democrat. But I am very discouraged by the leadership of the DNC; first, for not counting votes from Michigan and Florida; second, for trying to strong-arm a conclusion to the Democratic nomination process (their process); and third, by this attempt to manipulate this comment by McCain.

Also, I am a proponent of hard-ball politics, but there must be a good measure of fairness, or it is just bunk.

The Democratic party sure needs new, respectable leadership.
