McCain Ambushed With Obscene Question at Town Hall Event
An audience member ambushed John McCain on Thursday at an otherwise placid town hall meeting in Des Moines, Iowa, with a surprise question about whether he had ever called his wife by an obscene term.
The man stood up and first said he wanted to ask the Arizona senator about a “mental health and mental health care” concern.
“Previously I had been married to a woman who was very verbally abusive to me,” the man said. He paused and asked, “Is it true that you called your wife a c***?”
The crowd booed, and McCain responded:
“No, no — you don’t wanna, you don’t wanna. You know, it’s a great thing about town hall meetings, sir,” he said. “But we really don’t — there’s people here who don’t respect that kind of language. So I’ll move onto the next questioner in the back.”
Secret Service agents escorted the man out of the building.
The question came out of a new book called “The Real McCain,” by Cliff Schecter, that alleges McCain publicly called his wife Cindy that word in 1992. The McCain campaign has called the book “trash journalism” and called the alleged incident a “complete fabrication.”
FOX News’ Mosheh Oinounou contributed to this report.

It’s just like McCain to avoid answering a question he doesn’t want to answer. Do you really want this crook as our President. Come on Republicans… think for once in your life!
I am so disheartened that our society has gotten to that level. When I hear comments like that I and I tell my children and grandchildren to “Just consider the source.” Apparently he or she never got their mouth washed out with soap.
Its not liberal people. Its people in general, they have no respect. I am a follower of Hillary, however, I would never ask such a repulsive thing. I have respect for each candidate as well as everyone should.
McCain did what any good person would.

Yes he did.. I was there in 1992 when he said it”
sure you were - and i am a former green beret with 4 graduate degrees, a chalet in the swiss alps and a supermodel for a wife.
the one problem with the internet is the lack of accountability due to anonimity. people can say or “be” anything they want. the clown who disrespected mccain with his highly inappropriate question is an indication of how the same irresponsible attitude is seeping into society outside the internet.
i weep for the future.
Just the kind of class you would expect from a Liberal isn’t it?
…God Bless America. If the general public lets the Democrat/Liberal/Progressive clowns win the White House, it will be like the nuts taking over the insane asylum. Looks like Batman is in for a real fight with these Jokers…
Perfect example of what to expect from the liberals this year.
These people who have hijacked the Democratic party have taken a perfectly good two party system and turned it into only one real choice for the rest of us. They need to go back to their Libritarian/Green/Independent parties where they belong. In the ignored outer fringes of American politics.
It was intended to show him get angry and blow up, he handled it very well.
I’ve been torn between Hillary and McCain. I really liked the way that McCain responded to that question. His immediate concern was not hiding anything, embarrassing his wife or his campaign. His knee jerk reaction was along the lines of you don’t want to go there, and he was talking about his respect for the men and women in that room. Men in this society who show valor and respect for women and men are far and few between. I would imagine its a catch 22 to show respect to women without being accused of being “old school” or “patronizing.” Women can be strong and still appreciate respect for being a woman. Thanks John, you did this middle aged woman’s heart some good.
I am respecting McCain more and more. I agree
totally with his actions regarding the question.
