Indianapolis Star Endorses Clinton
The Indianapolis Star endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president Friday just four days before the Democratic primary in Indiana, praising her “years of high-level experience” as a senator, which have left her “well prepared for the rigors of the White House.”
Editors at the Star, who called Clinton “tough, experienced and realistic,” contrasted her with her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, whose “inexperience in high office is a liability,” they wrote.
“Clinton offers a clear-eyed view of the way things are,” they wrote. “Her depth of knowledge is remarkable.”
The endorsement from the Star, the largest newspaper in Indiana, could be a boon for Clinton, who already leads in polling ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
A RealClearPolitics average of polls released Thursday shows Clinton with a 6 percent lead in Indiana. Clinton has been gaining momentum since her victory in the Pennsylvania primary April 22, which she won by nearly 10 percent.

I am very concerned about the Tehran protest against Senator Clinton regarding the threat she made against Iran on Good Morning American. Why would you endorse someone who does not use good judgment.
I don’t want to see this country (witch I love) go socialist witch is a real possibility if this election cycle goes to the Dems. This would be a tragedy!! I want my children and grandchildren to have the same chance as I did.!!!!
Finally =]
Hillary IS gaining her momentum back and It will keep charging threw to her nomination!!
GO HILLARY ‘08
Indy Star is right. Hillary ‘08.
Obama ‘16
Apparently, the Star wants to keep the same old status-quo in DC.
I wonder if the Indianapolis star Newspaper would have endorsed Clinton if the Pastor Wright story had not come up again. Obama is a good man which I think shows it in the fact the no one from his past 20 years has said bad things about him. The Ayers thing is so blown out of proportion it makes me sick. Obama has been to nice toward the Clintons and all their skeltons in the closet. Just listen to what Mickey Cantor one of Clintons advisors said about the people of Indiana. Their is a youtube video out that shows the very negative thing he said.
Bravo for Hillary!!!
I think this is what needs to happen. We all know, Obama cant win in the general election. Hillary is extremely confident in all aspects. I read the comment about Valecia. I think Hillary said the right thing. Why should we let them intiimidate us? They need are money for oil. They are and always will be a threat. Obama would have not been ahead on anything if all this happened 3 months ago. Look whats happening, that tells you that he can not win. His little speech disowning Wright now? whats up with that, Wright didnt say anymore than he has before, and now Obama is behind and he comes out and disowns the man, when we all know , know matter what he said, he is going to go right back to rev Wright if he got elected. Wright even commented that he would.
Valecia , What would you have her do? Be like Obama and have a few speeches and talks with them. If you don’t let them know what will happen if you go nuclear on one of our allies and just talk about how they feel and the hate that they keep saying will not solve anything. Iran should and hopefully will not ever have a Nuclear Weapon. There President is the one who stated that Isreal should be wiped off the Planet. Now he knows that Iran will meet the same fate. Hopefully they smarten up and heed the warning and give up there ambition to build a Nuclear arsenal. This will start world war 3 and then who will get any OIL. Just a thought. Hope you support Hillary!
Thank God for Hillary. She will bring our country back on track!
Valecia, I am with you all the way. I too am concerned, this goes to show you that we have to choose our words carefully. Hillary is too quick to do what ever it takes to win this election and sometimes doesn’t think before opening her mouth. While I know that most people who blog here are Hillary supporters why can’t you just admit when she says something wrong. That does not mean that you don’t support her just that she is wrong on this. What are we suppose to do start another war when we haven’t finished the one we are in. Come on people how many more Americans have to die? I don’t think we are going to see her or her daugher on the front lines. That’s why she lost my vote. I will never vote for someone who is so willing to take us into another war.
Obama ‘08
the tide is turning, go hillary! we need solutions, and hillary has them. the economy of the 90’s was great under the first president clinton, she can turn this economy around. vote hillary 08!
just a question to the Obama supporters. what is the status quo in washinton that Obama claims he is going to change? i just dont get how people think he can change the so called old politics of washington in 4yrs, what has been in washington for over 200yrs. do any of you think with realistic minds or are you living in fantasy land. why does he hide behind the old politics curtain. i think that it is great that a media outlet has come to there sense’s about how bad Obama is for this country. i guess what i am saying is for someone running a campagin about hope and reuniting the country he is not doing that. as a matter of fact all of the controversy is surronding Obama and not Clinton, i wonder why that is. im glad this race has lasted as long as it has because you would not have heard all of this stuff about Obama. which is more then likely the truth. im sorry i tend to believe his pastor about what he say’s about Obama, im sure it is true after all he has believed him for more then 20yrs.
The Star has hit the nail on the head. Clinton has a remarkable understanding of the issues that face our country. Some may not agree with her solutions, but no one can argue that she does not show an in depth knowledge of the issues. Great Job.
Larry, I agree Obama is too nice. Putting him in the White House would be like throwing a mouse in with a bunch of bobcats. They would playfully bat him around awhile before eating him alive…Hillary on the other hand is an alley cat with very sharp claws of her own.
Larry, I agree Obama is too nice. Putting him in the White House would be like throwing a mouse in with a bunch of bobcats. They would playfully bat him around awhile before eating him alive…Hillary on the other hand is an alley cat with very sharp claws of her own.
We don’t want a guy who just knows how to mesmerize an audience but whose inexperience in high office is a liability. We are with you Hilary.
Bravo for Hillary!!!
Thank you Star. Finally a paper that has the guts to do the right thing. We are all better off with someone we know than someone we would have to find out about in the oval office of the White House. It is hard to believe that people are willing to entrast the most powerful nation in the world to a complete unknown and untested individual, with no family or religious background, that for political purpuses aligned himself and his family, for 20 years, with a church and a minister that hates America and despises everybody but his own kind. If Kerry could be derrailed by the Swift Boaters in 2004, what’s the Wright controverse going to do in 2008? It almost sounds like another plot to ellect a president of “their” choice. Twice they rigged the election, this time they pick an unelegible condidate for us. Very clever.
Fox is doing it best to help Hillary, they pick up the worst polls that favor Clinton to Justify their bias.
vern
You Hillary supporters drvie off of false hopes. If she comes within 5 points in NC it is considered a victory and a 1 vote win in IN. is a vicotry.
O’reilly should of stopped the spin the past couple of nights. If you lose a state by 1,2,3,4,5….points it’s a loss, is it not? There is no such thing as a moral victory on either side. Her campaign wants to drag this out to destroy Barack’s chances of getting elected. She has said she is 60 years old and this maybe her only opprotuntiy to run for this office. Well she came up with a new plan that maybe in four years she will be able to. If she destroy’s barack there is no way in Four years the people that would have voted for him will come back and support her.
It’s about time someone woke up and realizes she is the one for the job! Go Hillary!!
I knew there was a reason I never read that rag.
Jim in Indianapolis
Go Hillary Go Star. Hillary is the only one that can bring change and bring this coiuntry back on its feet again. Good for Star and good for Hillary
Here’s the bottom line for Obama:
The red phone rings at 3 a.m., and the voice on the other side says,”Mr. President, we have a situation, what do you recommend?”
Obama’s response: “PRESENT”
that’s the change that’s coming people.
I find it sad people believe Hillary will say anything to win, but they refuse to see that Obama is the politican he claims to despise. His statements concerning Rev. Wright in the beginning is a complete FLIP from the comments he made this week. Why? They were the same statements that he didn’t find offensive in the beginning. I think its called political expediency. If his polls hadn’t dropped would he have addressed this issue? I think not. The president must be a president for all, regardless of race or gender. Obama had proven he’s not that person.
GO Hillary.
it’s a good thing that this has gone on as long as it has, there are alot of things we know about Obama now then we new before, and people wanted Hillary to drop out,but she fooled them all and hung in there, she is one tough cookie, thats’ who i want as president!!
More success to “STAR”, you are absolutely correct about Hillary, experienced, tough, right vision for our country, leadership, genuine, and most of all she would be a better President than Bill. We need a President who can turn this economy around like the 90’s - the answer is Hillary.
It will be interesting how this all plays out next week. Hillary is the stronger candidate with more appeal to various groups and she made double sure not to alienate any group of voters. You may argue that she alienated the black voters, but if you look closer, she wasn’t the one playing the race card. Blacks left her, because they had an interesting candidate, not because she said something wrong.
She is strong with all kinds of voters and the liberal and black voters will return to her, if she is the candidate. She has the Hispanics, Asians, Catholics, Jews, older women, blue collar workers, union members, teachers, sick people, rural people, the whole enchillada. She will give McCain a run for his money.
Obama should drop out of the race now, he cannot win……………
who would of thought a preacher would be your worst enemy.
Obama would not be sitting where he is, if people knew about his past.
Obama has made no effort to change Washington since he has been a US Senator, one he wasn’t there a lot of the time and two he didn’t make any effort to work with people across the aisle, so please tell me how you think he will change Washington since he is part of the current old Washington politics.
Frankly, it is a relief to read a comment on a political candidate that doesn’t swirl around personality. One would think that the electorate lacks intelligence or insight. Hooray for factual statements.
Oh get over yourselves Obamamites. Iran is itching for a fight, they want Obama cause all he’ll do is talk. Obama is not squeeky clean. He is new to the scene so nobody has the chance to dig into his “closet” yet. The phrase that is bandied around a lot is “if it sounds too good to be true then chances are it isn’t”, applies 100% to Obama.
Go Hillary Go! If you don’t get the nomination, your supporters will put our country first before our party and vote for McCain. Go Hillary, Go USA!
Please do your homework. Read Partners in Power, Hillary and Bill Clinton by Roger Morris, award winning journalist.
Thank you The Star! Finally people are realizing how strong, intellegent and experienced s Hillary Clington is, she is a STAR!
Christine Do you really think any of the candidates is going to pull troops out of Iraq? Obama, Clinton and Mc Cain all get the same briefings from the NSA. Our troops are going to be there for years. The number of troops will go down over time but we will be present in Iraq. Any candidate that say different is lying. So you just keep drinking that old obama kool aid and keep living in fantasy a land.
Thank you Doung, Tampa!!
I could not agree more, Obama is a single man and while the message of change etc has drawn people - albeit people who do not understand history or politics; there is absolutely no way he alone through charisma can “change” politics - anywhere.
We really need leaders who have a deep understanding of the issues we face and concepts and ideas of how we can address them. Clinton offers this much more so than Obama can. Without his preaches, I mean speeches run over a teleprompter he has a difficult time. His delivery is excellent, but we really need more than that - we need someone who can think on her feet for our country….. Thanks Hillary and Indianopolis Star
If knew then what we know now about Obama he would be done long time ago!!!
He is just a joke!
He shouldn’t be in the senate also!!!
Obama is totally unknown person. I believe what Wright says about him. He is just a politician. He thinks he is very smart. He has solutions to all the problems. He will be the worst President, if he gets elected.
Why the hell did he not disown Wright the day he learnt about his comments? Do you really expect us to believe that for 20 years, you did not know about his comments. People like Wright have no right to stay in this country. They should be cannonballed into the sea despite freedom of speech.
You might want to look at this

Apparently the Indianapolis Star is willing to overlook Hillarys Creditability along with her divisive ways which she has shown over and over in this campaign. If Hillary got elected my salary says that in 90 days they would complain about how terrible a leader she really is. I would have thought that this newspaper would want to go forward—a endorsement of Hillary is taking giant steps backward to the past Clinton years in the White House –one full of lies & scandal on the part of both ” Bill & Hilly” !!
War? when did she ever say she was going to take us to another war?
It’s about time Senator Clinton is being recognized for her ability to answer all questions being asked of her without hesitation. She has a brilliant mind and it would be a shame on the part of the Democratic`Party not to nominate her for the presidency. Obama’s association with Pastor J. Wright is still questionable. It appears he distanced himself from him because it was hurting him politically. Of the three canditates, Senator Clinton, I believe,is the most qualified to handle the problems our country is facing at this time
This comment is for Christine,
I am not a Clinton supporter, but she is right about Iran. It’s important to understand that it will not be another war, just a new front on the same war with Islamic terrorists. Understand too, that this war will not end when it is too inconvenient, or too many Americans die-it will end when the terrorists are dead. That is the only end they (terrorists) will acknowledge.
She is now and always has been the best candidate. Obama is a rookie senator with no experience at all. The experience he has is a lie. He wasn’t even a community activist:

Go Obama! He is so brave and courageous! His charisma is off the charts! He is so great for standing up to Rev, Wright! Everything he does is just so wonderful.
Obama ‘08
FOX Election HQ is the best!
Thank you STAR. Hillary does have the remarkable depth of experience and knowledge and is the best choice to run this country. We need a fighter, we need someone who can not only speak well but take action. Go HILLARY!
Better a known devil than an unknown “angel”. The world is a tough place and Hillary knows how to navigate it. She would be an excellent president.
THANK YOU STAR!….for seeing things has they really are! It’s real clear that you know what you are talking about! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! IN ELECTING HILLARY
GO Hillary GO!!! We’ve got your back in Indiana. The Indianapolis Star is right on! Can’t wait until Tuesday when you take Indiana & North Carolina! Obama is NOT electable & is a fraud.
Hillary 08
a lot of young people support sen. obama. they think he’s cool especially when he talks and there’s
no doubt that he really is. we respect many young people’s choice but many of them were still young when America under the leadership of Clinton was in prosperity (1992-2000) Hillary has witnessed how her husband manage the country well. if she will be given the opportunity, she can help America back to prosperity and stability. i believe she can do it because she is a fighter.
she weathered almost all kinds of trials. i like to read news on fox and watch their program because they are not bias. they report what all people in America should know and not just one side of the coin.
thanks fox and more power
It seems that the superdelegates are trying to undermine the will of the people. Hillary has the momentum.
Can any one doubt after OBAMA becomes PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT OBAMA will have a KISS and Make up meeting with REV WRIGHT. Can any one doubt when OBAMA becomes PRESIDENT people like REV JESE JACKSON, AL SHARPTON and the REV WRIGHT and possible FARAKHAN .And who knows even BILL AYERS Will influence the decisions made by PRESIDENT OBAMA. WILL OBAMA PARDON REZKO?
EMA
I agree with Luis…she has much more experience and understands navigating world politics better than Obama…I watched her on the second portion of O’Reilly and she held her own with our Bill…I don’t think he went as easy on her on the second segment…he was just warming up in the first segment! All of these politicians have skeletons…can’t be in politics without them (even our own JFK and FDR had skeletons). I’d rather have a known quantity than an unknown liability.
i will be very upset if the demos pick obama –he should never been running for president—-he has no experience & he has no answers. i think people who want him the nominee now know people are finding out the truth about him & his radical friends –this is the most scary thing to think those people will be running our country—HE OWES THEM BIG
I applicate for her courage and strength. She is true leader. Even though Barack Obama black mailed from the beginning of campaign attacking something she never said, plus annoying propagandas in website like “is Hillary Finished?” She stand up what she believed. I was scared how bad they do, and worried so much what this country will turn into. But, now, I believe that goodness always win. I am going for Senator Hillary Clinton. I gain confident in her I decided to follow the goodness my life.
Hillary’s answers in the interview with Bill O’Reilly’s interview were frightening! Someone has coached her on how to avoid the condescending (mean, bored) facial expressions and how to appear more warm and fuzzy, but beyond that - most of her answers were (what’s the appropriate word?) UNBELIEVABLE!
I read a comment that says it all: Hillary is a liar; Obama is a lie.
What a ticket the two of them would make. They could dodge bullets on the way to church where they didn’t know those comments were made Rev. Wright.
One more lie from Hillary’s supporter …oh gosh ..how much a person can lie
We already have a “fighter” in the Whitehouse, look where that got us.
Another liberal rag endorses the Clintons. I’m shocked!
I THINK a tuff CLINTON is just what we need to so solve the many problems our country is facing both DOMESTICALLY and in the FOREIGN Areana. I rember another great lady who had an abrasive Personality Who wasn’t particlarly well liked but who is now given credit by both friend and foe alike. For the prosperity now enjoyed by the BRITS none other the the IRON LADY MAGI THATCHER. I think HILLARY would do the same for us in the USA
EMA
.
Thank you STAR.
Hillary have the remarkable depth of experience and knowledge to be US president !!
Okay lets say Hillary wins the nomination, is that when the press will begin to cover the story of Paul v Clinton so that the democratic candidate will be obliterated?
Will Hillary be able to be commander and chief from a jail cell?
This woman has proved herself untrustworthy in addition to being a liar.
She is totally incapable of serving as President. This country has seen
enough of both Clintons.
That’s understandable since the media has been giving Mrs. Clinton the accolades all week while continuing to keep the Wright and bitter issues to the forefront.
How about some fairness folks–I would like to be informed on the Paul vs. Clinton “campaign fraud case” going on in California. This goes to the honesty, integrity, and character of the candidate. In addition, the media has also not brought to the publics attention that the clinton campaign was involved in Caftagate. Even recently, Canada newspapers reported that one of Clintons co-chairs told a group of businessmen not to worry about NAFTA (paraphrased). Do you not have investigative reporters or are you just covering up to get the democratic candidate elected that you know is beatable once all the stuff does come out?
How anybody can vote for a power hungry Women and a Liar to boot and as for her experience she does not know what friendly fire is plus the the fact she could not control her Husband, and did she not vote for the War with Iraq so this proves she does not have experience needed.
mr J Bradley
Experience? Presidents Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman and Franklin D. Roosevelt had accomplished little, if anything, politically before ascending to the Presidency. Each of them had little to no experience whatsoever; but yet, these great men are four of the finest presidents this country has ever had. Yet, President James Buchanan who, like Hillary, had over 20 years of political experience, as history has shown us, was the worst president ever. Experience means nothing.
Also, Hillary could not even figure out how to operate a gas pump or get java from a coffee machine. Hello?
Prabhakar,
I agree with you 100%. He would be worst president if he gets elected. I would vote for McCain if Obama is nominee. I can take four more years of McCain. Obama does not discuss solutions of problems this nation is facing. I haven’t heard him taking questions from audience. He is nothing but poilitician cheerleader!!
Howie - Clinton is not brillant. She is a well established liar will do whatever it takes to get to the WH. She is phoney and will , ” HER WORDS”… DO ANYTHING, WHATEVER IT TAKES to be PRESIDENT”.
Absolute great decision by the Star.!!!
Good to see that some one has
their brain in gear.! People might
actually wake up before the
roof cave’s in.
PaulvClinton.com to see Clinton fraud court case.
Thank you Indiana Star. Hillary is extremely knowledgable and actually addresses the issues and knows how to solve them. Barrack Obama can only talk about change
(what kind of change). How can a man who can stay in a church for 20 years with a raving maniac preacher) make good judgements. On NBC last night Ms. Viera did everything except diaper and fix him a bottle.
This nomination contest will be over after Tuesday. Enough with the Clinton fairy tale.
Spousal presidencies…give me a break. This isn’t Taiwan.
Go Hillary ‘08. People are finally waken up! Si se puede. A real change we can believe.
Hello Madam President. Im looking for facts not fiction! ONLY choice CLINTON 08
Come on Indiana voters! Vote for Clinton for the rest of us who had to vote before we learned about his 20 year relationship with Wright. I was smart enough to see through him and voted Hillary and Missouri would have gone for Hillary if we would have known about Wright. It was a very close race here and if we could do it again he would lose!! I’m sure that’s true in many states. The Democrats have NO chance in the general election with Obama. I sell in 3 states and everyone is really angry about the deception we have experienced.
Good endorsement to pick up. The race is tight and Hillary will need all the support that comes her way to stall superdelegates from backing Obama. As an American and voter I’m concerned about the Peter Paul vs Clinton case in court, where it alledges the campaign funds solicited or accepten in an illegal way. I know it has not hit the news, but what will happen if McCain and the republican party decide to pick this up for November? Where the democratic party be hurt?
Clinton needs to hurry up and win, so we all can have Health care just like the rest of the third world.
what experienced, she has none ,hillary hasn’t done anything for upstate ny , she is just a carpetbagger ,who thinks she is entitled the presidency ,wake up america vote her out and get it over with she is just hurting obama so she can run again in 2012!!!!!!!!!!
I am an Independent who leans slightly right. When this campaign began I could not stand Hillary, and I didn’t know much about Obama. At this point, even though I’ll probably vote for McCain unless something changes, I don’t think Hillary would be the worst choice. No,Obama would be the worst choice by far. I shudder to think of he and Michelle leading this country.
Please stop it with the “Bill Clinton led us through economic prosperity”. Its called the business cycle people, he was just fortunate to preside during an upturn that was not of his making. In fact if you remember it all ended in tears anyways with the dotcom bust, enron and so forth.
Obama has real judgement, Wright just proves he is in touch with the division America needs to heal. Do you really think he’ll be divisive like Wright? whatever.
Hes a true patriot who confronts issues and heals division, instead of false patriotism like wearing flag pins.
Experience doesn’t = judgement.
The Star is a rag with declining readership.
It’s endorsement means nothing.
I would rather have a woman with high level leadership ability than continue to play political games. I’m rather sick of this campaign and we haven’t even started the run for the presidency!
Thanks,
Ann Rogers
I hope she wins the states that are left. Obama is a talker he doesn’t have a clue on the doing part. Wake up America! Listening to the superdelegate news it sounds like they want Obama as the nominee no matter what, so what ever happened to the popular vote? It seems that they can decide on the nominee and the popular vote isn’t important.
I would expect nothing lesss from Fox News. Giving Hillary a pass over the lies she stated about landing in Kosovo. Racism at it’s besst. Great job Fox News.
Outstanding. Great choice, and the article in great. Absolutely agree with their endorsement. As to the folks that brought up that silly PaulvClinton court case. It’s ludicrous and we’ve been laughing at it for a while now. The Obama supporters have a few people planting that erroneous suit on every site. It’s quite silly.
I am a North Carolina voter and i can’t wait to cast my vote for Hillary!!
obama and hillary are accomplished liars, but i think hillary is slightley less anti america, and thus deserves the nod over barry obama
we have three democrats running for president. id rather dig up the gipper and let him have another term
I live in Ohio and I personally know a lot of people who voted for Obama here in March, before all this information came out about Obama’s extremely poor judgment in aayaying in this church where a radical and racist preacher preaches hatred and bigotry. We will not vote for him in the general election.HILLARY’08
Big deal! She needs all the help she can get! “Her high level of experience” Give me a break! The closest she has come to having “experience” is being married to a president. So did George Bush have “experience” that would make him an effective leader because his father was a president? Nice try, but no cigar!
I urge you to rectify your votes. Obama will bring chaos to America…
AGREE AGREE AGREE I AM A REPUBLICAN BY VOTE FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS HOWEVER, HILLARY’S DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE IS ADMIRABLE ENOUGH FOR ME TO SWING DEMOCRAT AND SHE IS CLEAR EYED AND TOUGH.
THANK YOU, INDY STAR FOR YOUR ENDORSEMENT
My personal opinion is that Hillary Clinton has more experience concerning the duties of the President of our USA than anyone else running in this race. She has had her hand on the pulse of our nation for many years and we need her past experience as well as her forthrightness after a long siege of questionable actions in our nation. There are many social problems within our country that need to be addressed and none of the other candidates have gone to the depths of those problems nor given any hint of actual plans except for this remarkable woman. The race does not need to be about color, religion or uncertainties about the persons running for office. We already know the strengths and weaknesses of Mrs. Clinton, not too sure about the other folks tho.
