Tom Hanks Endorses Obama
NEW YORK — Tom Hanks is supporting presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
Hanks has taken to his MySpace.com page to pledge his support for Obama, who is competing to be the first black president. Obama, who faces rival Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, has also been endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Scarlett Johansson.
“As an official celebrity, I know my endorsement has just made your mind up for you,” the 51-year-old actor says in a short video titled, “Beware: Celebrity Endorsement.”
“History with a capital `H’ is going to be made this November, no matter who the president-elect is. I want Barack Obama to be president of this country, a country that once said people with his skin color were only three-fifths of a human being.”
Hanks, who won Oscars for his roles in “Forrest Gump” and “Philadelphia,” explains his decision: “It’s because of his character and vision, and the high road he has taken during this campaign. He has the integrity and the inspiration to unify us, as did FDR and Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy and even Ronald Reagan when they ran for the job.”
The actor says Obama and Clinton have each “pretended to eat cheese-steak sandwiches and go bowling,” “committed gaffes” and distanced themselves from supporters who could damage their campaigns.
But Hanks thinks an Obama presidency could bring about a “seismic shift,” and “live up to the great promise once shaped by our founding fathers.”
Signing off, the star says: “I’m Tom Hanks, I wrote and approved this message, and I’m now going to turn off the camera.”

Go, Tom Hanks, Go!!!
Well, Tom Hanks. Another celebrity/musician/dancer who should keep his overblown ego out of politics. Just how narrowminded are these nut-jobs in Hollywood to think that their endorsements have any impact on mainstream America.
Now if these Hollywood-ites were trying to promote divorce, infidelity, or and alcohol abuse, then I believe they’d have grounds to voice their opinions. But where the best interests of our country are involved, they should just shut up. They have no credibility.
From everything I’ve heard about Obama in the last few months: Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Michelle Obama, on and on . . .
I am just waiting for the next skeleton to pop out of his closet. Obama is clearly the wrong choice for our country. We can only hope the last few voters, superdelegates, and Democratic party figure that one out before or at the convention.
Otherwise, it’s McCain all the way.
OBAMA 08′!
Dear Mr. Hanks,
As I read the responses to your endorsement of Mr. Obama, I am trying to determine the reasons for the objections. There were no real or valid reasons for their objections. Their comments indicate to me that these people have a long road of maturing ahead regarding race and fairness. For the large Majority of the people in this country they are beyond race, which is good. So Mr. Hanks your endorsement of Mr. Obama right or wrong it is yours to make. Those people who are judging you are racist and are not true believers in the USA constitution. I truly believe that they do not believers or understand what the constitute means to the country, to individuals such as they and most of all to the world. We are the example of what true freedom is all about. No only should we live it but we should also practice it.
Way to go Tom!
He says, “I want Barack Obama to be president of this country, a country that once said people with his skin color were only three-fifths of a human being.””
Does that mean he is voting for him because of his skin color? To relieve some of his guilt by association? I think some of this momentum is about white guilt. I like Barak Obama too, but this is too big of a deal for some feel-good moments…this is for the presidency!!!
I am voting for Sen. Clinton because she will do the best job, period.
