GWB is unqualified to lead the nation because he only served in the reserves, not combat, and John McCain is unqualified because he did serve in combat and was a prisoner of war for more than five years. What alternative universe does Sen. Harkin live in? But keep it up. His “eulogy” for Sen Wellstone in 2002 single-handedly turned an election cycle around.

MCAMNESTY’S TEMPERAMENT MAKES HIM UNFIT TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF

Harkin is right to the extent that temperament is an important factor to consider in Presidential candidates. Does anyone really doubt McAmnesty’s commitment to “more wars, many more wars”? How about McBeachboy’s, “bomb, bomb, bomb… bomb, bomb Iran”? How about when a youngster asked whether he was too old to be President, McAncient said “I’m gonna draft ya, ya little jerk”? And any way he tries to sanitize it, McArrogant’s “Hundred Years War” statement reveals that he doesn’t care how long our troops are exposed to danger or how strung out across the world they get. Did McCostCutter ever see a military budget that had pork fat to be trimmed? NO! And what the hell was McFrenchie doing rigging the transport aircraft bids to eliminate American Boeing in favor of French government supported Airbus, a notoriously corrupt organization? I am sure there will be many more stories when the Democrats start Swiftboarding him in retaliation for the Swiftboating of Kerry.

McAmnesty has had lifelong problems with self control of all kinds–to me a disqualification to be President. We shall see if he releases his psychological and psychiatric records this holiday weekend–I’m betting not. A complete independent medical examination is in order. I think it would be a grave mistake to let this guy anywhere near the nuke football. Call it too militaristic, or rage driven, or whatever, something is wrong with this guy.

Harkin is on to something; McCain certainly has a one-dimensional view of the world. He is even more dangerous than the current occupant of the White House. The more grievous handicap, I think, however, is his irasciable personality. Just ask his Senate colleaues if he has the tempermant for the job. I have always felt it should be a prerequisite to hold any government office especially the commander in chief position, to have served at least 4 years honorably to be eligible for office. It is in our constitution the country will be run by a civilian but at least by having served in this capacity, the president would know first hand what the military man must endure. Look at Britain , they have the guts to send their children to the front lines of wars and conflicts they are involved in. The mighty US of A should have the testicular fortitude to show the world we are truly the home of the brave and our president HAS been there! In fact It should be a requirement for all of our citizens to serve their country in some capacity, that could be an avenue to getting this country squared away with some integrity.

As a person who served in the military during the Vietnam War era, but was fortunate enough not to be sent to Vietnam, I feel a sense of gratitude towards John McCain and all others who served their country under trying circumstances. Their service is beyond reproach, even if inflated as by John Kerry. For a worthless piece of humanity like Tom Harkin to even suggest this disqualifies McCain from the presidency is beyond contempt, far worse than any so-called racist comments ala Don Imus. Harkin should resign immediately.

All of the Swift Boat Veterans allegations have been substantiated by one or more eye witnesses, while all of the Bush National Guard AWOL allegations have been denied by National Guard personnel serving with him.

Like Obama, I, too, have roots [first generation Indian-American] in a foreign land; furthermore, I am a 30 year old Phd candidate at an Ivy League School. Yet, unlike most of my peers, I cannot think of any other leader, alive at this point, who would make a better President than Senator John McCain.
I will vote for him, not only because he is a genuine Military Hero, but also because he is a man of unassailable character and Solomonic Judgement.

Lesser men like Tom Harkin are lucky to be born in a country where families like the McCains of Arizona are willing to give their all to protect and serve.

John Kerry is NOT a war hero. He was ‘grazed’ by a bullet and sent home. It’s rumored (by his fellow servicemen) that he was such a crybaby, they gave him a medal just to get rid of him for good. He doesn’t even have a scar from his injury (he’s been asked to show it, several times). And you claim he was “in just as much danger, maybe more” than John McCain, who was a prisoner of War for 5 years, becuase he could not, in good consience, sleep at night if all his men didn’t return before he did. Now you’re being obsurd. Liberals love to rewrite history in their favor……Just like C. Perkins, and, of course, John Kerry too! Military service isn’t a pre-requisite for president, but it sure helps!

The argument makes some sense to me. John McCain’s views are definitely not part of the mainstream. He does seem to continue Bush’s paranoia that there are enemies lurking everywhere and that the best way to resolve our differences are to make war rather than talk. He keeps almost bragging about the fact he was a prisoner of war. Maybe he suffers from post-traumatic-stress disorder.
